Oracle 11g installation on Oracle Enterprise Linux, 64bit version.
Hi
I want to install oracle 11g on Oracle Enterprise Linux, 64bit version.
Do I need to set kernel parameters in this operating system, since it is not standart Linux editions.
or
Can I have a step by step documentation for installing oracle 11g on this operating system?
Hello,
Yes you do need to set kernal parameters in order to meet pre-requisites, otherwise your installation will fail and oracle might not work or unstable.
Here is the best place to find out stepwise installation instruction and kernel parameter configuration

[info@localhost database]$ ls
doc install response rpm runInstaller sshsetup stage welcome.html
[info@localhost database]$ ./runinstaller.sh

Please suggest.Hi,
Make sure you extract both part in same directory, Do not separate it. Example for 11.2.0.3,
As oracle user
cd /tmp (Make sure your directory have enough space).
unzip p10404530_112030_LINUX_1of7.zip
unzip p10404530_112030_LINUX_2of7.zip
Open the xmanager (xstart) or directly from the Gnome.
1. Test if Display is ok by issue command xclock or xlogo
$ xlogo
2. Run the installer cd /tmp/database

Installation problem oracle 11g R2 on oracle enterprise linux 5 update 5
hello support,
i've installation problems with oracle 11g R2 on oracle enterprise linux 5 update 5. In the section "ORACLE Net-Konfigurationsassisten" the failure "[INS-20802] Oracle NET-Konfigurationsassistent not success". What's wrong? I've followed the instructions on http://www.oracle.com/technology/pub/articles/smiley-11gr1-install.html
I've heard the problem can occur with problems in /etc/hosts? My /etc/hosts is configured:
# Do not remove the following line, or various programs
# that require network functionality will fail.
127.0.0.1 oracle localhost.localdomain localhost
::1 localhost6.localdomain6 localhost6
is this ok? what can I do to bring the database-installation to success?
Thank's for help ;-)

ChangePerm.sh file does not exist in Oracle 11g installation
Hi All,
I have done successful Oracle 11g installation. After installation I noticed that Oracle 11g/installation does not have changePerm.sh file. Did anyone of you seen that?
Without executing changeperm.sh file, the binary files have 751 permission level. ChangePerm.sh script make change in file permission to 755.
Oracle support is not answering me why there was no changePerm.sh file under Oracle_home/install directory.
Thoughts/suggestions..
Thank you
SureshI'm not finding this to be the case reliably. I have both a 10G and an 11G install on one particular machine and the 11G installer initially creates the directories with a 755 permission, then right before the prompt to run root.sh, and at the same time it locks down any 10G home it finds (someone please explain that!) it locks down the 11G home too.
In true Murphy tradition, this hasn't happened on any of my testing machines, just my production.
Whatever silly contrived mechanism Oracle wrote to re-lock 10G when installing 11G is also locking down my 11G. -
Patches for Installing Oracle 9i on Red Hat Enterprise LINUX 3.0 AS
I recently purchased An Oracle Database Enterprise Edition Trial License.
I am attempting to install Oracle 9i on Red Hat Enterprise Linux Advanced Server 3 (RHEL AS 3).
After several unsuccessful attempts and consultation with the FAQs available on the Oracle site I have discovered
that it can not be installed without the following patches.
P3095277_9204_LINUX.zip
P3238244_9204_LINUX.zip
P2617419_210_GENERIC.zip
P3006854_9204_LINUX.zip
P3119415_9204_LINUX.zip
Can anyone tell me how I can aquire these patches?
This is for an eval of the product on the platform mentioned above. If I can not complete a successful install,
there is no way for my company to evaluate the product
and eventually purchase it.
You can contact me at this email address [email protected]Daer suneetkapoor:
I am looking for P3006854_9204_LINUX.zip in order that can be properly able to install oracle9i on Linux AS 3. And I saw you to reply the message on forum that you can share the patch. Would you mind if you can send an email with the patch for me immediately, I will greatly appreciate it.
thanks you

Migrate Oracle 11g database from Windows To Linux using RMAN hot / cold backup ?
Hi Friends,
Is it possible to Migrate Oracle 11g database from Windows To Linux using RMAN hot / cold backup ? ( as i would like to perform Point In Time recovery)
(or) The only way is to use RMAN convert as mentioned here - Transporting Data Across Platforms
(or) Is there any other method (except exp/imp and data pump)
Regards,
DBHI
his post describes the procedure required to migrate a database from Windows to Linux using the RMAN Convert Database command.
Both Windows and Linux platforms have the same endian format, which makes possible to transfer the whole database, making the migration process very straightforward and simple.
To migrate between platforms that have a different endian format, Cross Platform Transportable Tablespaces (XTTS) needs to be used instead.
List of Steps Needed to Complete the Migration
The migration process is simple, but as it has several steps it is convenient to be familiar with them before running it.
1. Check platform compatibility between source and target OS
2. Start the database in read only mode
3. Check database readiness for transport from Windows to Linux using DBMS_TDB.CHECK_DB
4. Check if there are any external objects
5. Execute the Rman Convert database command
6. Copy converted datafiles, generated Transport Script and Parameter File to Linux
7. Edit the init.ora for the new database
8. Edit the Transport Script and Parameter File changing the windows paths to Linux Paths
9. Execute the Transport Script
10.Change the Database ID
11.Check database integrity

Oracle 11g compatibility with oracle 10g and 9i?
Hi All
I have some queries on 11g compatibility.
Is oracle 11g client compatible with oracle 10g client which is already installed on desktop?
If yes any changes to be done and where?
Is oracle 11g compatible with oracle 10g/9i on the same server where 10g/9i are installed?
RegardsThanks Justin Thats right ...
Problem elaboration is as follows
We currently have an application which requires oracle 10g(10.2.0.3) client to connect to database from user desktops. As
part of new application development the oracle 11g clients need to be installed on all the user deskotps.
The complete application software along with oracle client 11g has to be roled out on these desktop as part of
implementaion of new application besides the existing application(The application software is packaged along with oracle
10g client).
We would like to understand if there is any software provided by oracle using which we can switch between different oracle
versions while accessing the respective applications simultaneously. Also are there any known bugs/issues in running
oracle 10g client and oracle 11g client together on the same user desktops with different oracle homes? -

Oracle 11g installation on Linux Enterprise 5 remains hanging at 43%!
Hi all,
as per Subject, I have installed a Linux Enterprise 5 OS downloaded by Oracle Download Center and it is now installed following the nice Guide here.
I have added the missing Linux packages and set up the kernel parameters as per Guide quoted above.
If I launch the Oracle installation, it completes the packages and parameters check fine, install goes fine until 43% and then hangs.
It's not freezing as the Installation window shows ongoing animations, if I try to stop installation it responds immediately asking for confirmation.
It just hangs up!
The Linux machine is actually on a VMWare image on a MacOS Leopard host.
I have tried it on my laptop and desktop as well, but the hang point keeps being the same.
Any idea?
Thanks in advance.Satish Kandi wrote:
Can you post last 10 lines from the installation log? That might provide some clue.Sure.
I will copy more that last 10 lines as last 10 lines do not look too descriptive to me.
This will contain also my Installation abort.

What do I need for Oracle Http Server with mod_plsql on Linux 64bit?
I am trying to get the OHS onto a linux box but I am not quite sure I am installing the correct thing!!
I currently have a windows box running the 10g Application server but everything seems to have changed since then and there seems to be several different things to do with the Fusion Middleware and stuff. I've tried to find an overview in plain english of what all these things are but all I can find are lots of marketing buzzwords!
All in need to to be able to run the OHS with the mod_plsql so I can run my apex application. I'd be greatfull if someone could point me in the right direction for what I need to install!
The box it is going on is a CentOS Linux 64bit machine. I've download and installed Oracle WebLogic Server 11g Rel 1 (10.3.3) using the generic installer for the 64 bit java but there seems to be no http server despite it saying there is! Most likely I am doing something wrong but the installer finishes successfully but nothing is running on port 7001.
Do I actually need the WebTier instead? Is that the best solution for running the OHS with mod_plsql? Do I need the WebLogic install as well? Unfortunately I am fairly new to Linux as well which isn't helping!!
thanks for any help
RobertWell, you have two options:
- Use the OHS from the OFM WebTier Utilities distro. (To use 11.1.1.3 version, you need both the 11.1.1.2 and 11.1.1.3 distros)
- Use the OHS from the DB Companion Disk distro.
WebLogic Server is a Java EE application with an HTTP server included, but not intended to be used as a replacement of OHS/Apache. It doesn't support mod's...
