  • Install Oracle 11g RAC on Solaris 10

    Hello,
    I'm new joined DBA in my organization.
    There is a requirement from a client to install Oracle 11g RAC on Solaris 10 env.
    Can anybody please guide me with some doc or pdf for the steps.
    Till now, i've install Oracle 11g DB on Solaris, but i'm pretty new to RAC env.
    Note:
    I've to do installation via commands, No GUI.
    Thanks for your help.

    Hi,
    Q) Can Oracle 11g Release 2 RAC be installed on Solaris (x86)??yes, you can Install it on Solaris X86
    Q) Can the links of Oracle RAC installation over Unix and Linux be taken as base?? As i haven't seen any doc for installing 11g RAC on Solaris, where as it was provided in Oracle 10g.yes, you need to consider Oracle RAC installation over Unix and Linux be taken as base as base document.

    Thank you in advance..In general, each product has an installation manual - found through http://docs.oracle.com and possibly http://tahiti.oracle.com and the install manual clearly identifies the (minimum) support OS and Release information.

  • ChangePerm.sh file does not exist in Oracle 11g installation

    Hi All,
    I have done successful Oracle 11g installation. After installation I noticed that Oracle 11g/installation does not have changePerm.sh file. Did anyone of you seen that?
    Without executing changeperm.sh file, the binary files have 751 permission level. ChangePerm.sh script make change in file permission to 755.
    Oracle support is not answering me why there was no changePerm.sh file under Oracle_home/install directory.
    Thoughts/suggestions..
    Thank you
    Suresh

    I'm not finding this to be the case reliably. I have both a 10G and an 11G install on one particular machine and the 11G installer initially creates the directories with a 755 permission, then right before the prompt to run root.sh, and at the same time it locks down any 10G home it finds (someone please explain that!) it locks down the 11G home too.
    In true Murphy tradition, this hasn't happened on any of my testing machines, just my production.
    Whatever silly contrived mechanism Oracle wrote to re-lock 10G when installing 11G is also locking down my 11G.

  • Oracle 11g installation Kernel version  error

    Hi
    We are inprocess of installing oracle 11g on solaris 5.10. Our current Solaris 10 is with kernel version (5.10-2008.03.24.13.19). . It requires kernel version (5.10-2008.10). What patch need to be installed for us to achieve this. Please advice.
    The following are the operating system requirements for Oracle Database 11g Release 2 (11.2):
    * Solaris 10 U6 (5.10-2008.10)
    When I check with my OS team they says the currently have kernel patch ID 142909-17, which already Solaris 10 U9.Thus this Domain already fulfill the requirement

    You could post to the Installation forum : Database Installation
    But you should also log an SR with Oracle Support.

    i have the folder named oracleexe and app folder inside it . so this is what i should get as installed folders i guess !!Yes, that's what you can expect after a successful installation. Take a look in the direct ".\oracle\product\11.2.0\server" below the "app" directory. Do you see some url-link files there? (Despite several other subdirectories, of course...)
    Two of them should be the "Database_homepage" and "Get_Started". Try to call them.
    And Oracle XE service is started . Well, that's great. Sounds like all you lack is the links in you task menu.
    i couldn't quite get you here . which software/ programs are you referring to ? The start menu entry created is shown already as it is in the problem above and installation folders are there as i mentioned above . what else ,you refferring to ?I just wanted to check whether the installer has registered the database in the Windows list. This is part of a successful installation and would offer you the opporunity to uninstall (and perhaps reinstall) the whole package.
    Also , i am not sure which lOG file to check there because there are a lot of them !!As your database seems to be running as noted above, it doesn't seem to be necessary to go into these details.
    You should be able to access your database, either by using the links mentioned above, or, if these failed to be created, by calling the URLs by hand, e.g.
    http://127.0.0.1:8080/apex/f?p=4950 for "Get_Started" and
    http://127.0.0.1:8080/htmldb for the "Database_homepage".
    You should also be able to use the command line tool by calling sqlplus from a command window.
    If that doesn't satisfy you or you face any errors, you could try to reinstall.

  • Oracle 11g Installation How to select Database Character Set

    Hi,
    I am Installing oracle 11g R2. After installation I had verified the character set it was AL16UTF16 but I wants to set AL32UTF8 charater set at the time of oracle installation only. I can't see the character set setting opetion at the time of installation because I am selecting the installation option " Install database softerware only" and after installation of oracle software manually I am creating the database. Please help me how can I set the character set at the time of oracle installation or at the time of database creation.
    My question is-
    How can I set the AL32UTF8 character set in above scenario?
    Why It is showing AL16UTF16 character set even I did not define any thing?

    But is there any choice to set the NLS_CHARACTERSET at the time of manually database creation. Actually For creating the database i am using one shell script for seting the parameter values in init.ora file so can I set the parameter at that level(at the time of creating init.ora using manually database creation). like

    Make sure you unzip both zipfiles into the SAME directory, e.g.:
    cd /<whatever>
    $ unzip aix.ppc64_11gR1_database_1of2.zip
    $ unzip aix.ppc64_11gR1_database_2of2.zip
    $ cd database
    $ ./runInstaller

  • Oracle 11g installation on Linux Enterprise 5 remains hanging at 43%!

    Hi all,
    as per Subject, I have installed a Linux Enterprise 5 OS downloaded by Oracle Download Center and it is now installed following the nice Guide here.
    I have added the missing Linux packages and set up the kernel parameters as per Guide quoted above.
    If I launch the Oracle installation, it completes the packages and parameters check fine, install goes fine until 43% and then hangs.
    It's not freezing as the Installation window shows ongoing animations, if I try to stop installation it responds immediately asking for confirmation.
    It just hangs up!
    The Linux machine is actually on a VMWare image on a MacOS Leopard host.
    I have tried it on my laptop and desktop as well, but the hang point keeps being the same.
    Any idea?
    Thanks in advance.

    Can you post last 10 lines from the installation log? That might provide some clue.Sure.
    I will copy more that last 10 lines as last 10 lines do not look too descriptive to me.
    This will contain also my Installation abort.

  • Memory used by oracle 11g processes on solaris 10

    I am running oracle 11.1.0.7 on solaris 10. The database uses some 280M virtual memory size for each oracle backup or user process. See the SZ column in output of ps -efl below.
    I just wonder how come oracle that much of memory for each process. Is that something we can control through some system/database parameters or is that the way oracle 11g on solaris works?

    I am running oracle 11.1.0.7 on solaris 10. The database uses some 280M virtual memory size for each oracle backup or user process. See the SZ column in output of ps -efl below.
    I just wonder how come oracle that much of memory for each process. Is that something we can control through some system/database parameters or is that the way oracle 11g on solaris works?As you have already said, it is "virtual" memory. This is not real, "physical" memory. Solaris has a virtual memory sub-system layer in it, as do almost all other modern operating systems. Google "operating system virtual memory" to find out more on what virtual memory is and how it works.
    In terms of your question, virtual memory means that not all of a process's memory space needs to be in physical memory for it to run and execute. The process virtual memory space is broken up into equal sized pages, and only those pages currently being referenced (used) are mapped and read into physical memory pages. Thus the virtual size of a process is irrelevant to how much physical memory is being used. Look at the RSS column (ps -ely) for the physical memory used by each process - Resident Set Size.
    Furthermore, an Oracle shadow server process (oracle) uses a large segment of shared memory for the SGA. This shared memory only exists once in physical memory, and is shared amongst all the shadow server processes. But it is mapped into the address space of each process, and so appears and is counted in the virtual and physical memory of each process.
    So each reported virtual size (SZ) of each oracle process is also counting the mapped shared memory pages in each process, and so counting the same pages multiple times across all the oracle processes. You need to subtract the size of the SGA shared memory from the virtual size of each oracle process to determine the private, local memory per shadow process.
    If you want a further breakdown of the memory map of each process, look at the manual pages for pmap (man pmap), which will break it down by text, private data, zero initialized, shared and other types. By subtracting the shared size from the resident size you can get a true view of the private, local memory per oracle shadow server process.

  • Oracle 11g installation on Oracle Enterprise Linux, 64bit version.

    Hi
    I want to install oracle 11g on Oracle Enterprise Linux, 64bit version.
    Do I need to set kernel parameters in this operating system, since it is not standart Linux editions.
    or
    Can I have a step by step documentation for installing oracle 11g on this operating system?

    Hello,
    Yes you do need to set kernal parameters in order to meet pre-requisites, otherwise your installation will fail and oracle might not work or unstable.
    Here is the best place to find out stepwise installation instruction and kernel parameter configuration

    Go to that link, and select your version (11g Release 1 or Release 2), and then select the "Installation" link.
    From there you should find everything you need :)

  • Oracle BPEL Installation in Solaris

    Hi all,
    Can anybody give some tips on how to install the Oracle BPEL in a Solaris environment. i did the oracle BPEL 10.1.2 installation in windows machine and did a POC.Now i want to replicate the same setup in a solaris environment and do a performance testing.
    In Windows it was quite easy cince we get a Olite DB along with the BPM installation,but in solaris i am sure we need to do a seperate DB configuration.
    Do i need to use the Repository creation agent to do that or can i use the scripts which i downloaded from the oracle BPM download page?
    which one should i install
    * the Oracle BPEL Process Manager for Oracle AS middle Tier?
    or
    *BPEL process manager for developers
    Please let me know if i need to do any special work arounds for completing the installation.
    Your response is highly appreciated.

    Hello;
    I used several versions on Linux but not that one.
    That said the error :
    libXext.so.6: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directoryResolution : Install the libXp package
    So you are missing at least one of the "extra" packages needed for an Oracle install.
    I found some posts that make me believe Cent 6 isn't quite ready for Oracle 11 :
