Oracle 11G Instance moving to a new server

Hi,
We are planning to move oracle Instance which we used for configuration of our EPM System 11.1.2.2. Is there a way to reconfigure EPM system with the oracle instance on the new server.

Yes ,
Check out the section:

  • How to monitor oracle 11g database sessions on Windows 2008 server?

    Hi Experts
How to monitor the Oracle 11g database sessions on Windows 2008 server (other than SQL Developer tool), which procedure or query is taking more time with Java application.

Recently i found this tool- myorasql on the net to monitor the performence of database, easy to setup and check the performence.  i never tested it but seems impresive.  It is free and i think it would be use ful to you.

You can also use Quest - Toad or sqlplus if you are very good at sql commands and all dictionary tables or OEM/EM grid if it is configured .

  • Moved database to new server, not sure about NT AUTHORITY\* users

I just moved database to new instance of SQL Server (SQL Server 2012 Web from Amazon EC2) and am now cleaning up database users.
I am not sure if/why these 2 users are needed (they exist in original database that someone else created and managed before me):
    NT AUTHORITY\IUSR
    NT AUTHORITY\NETWORK SERVICE
Note that there are also 2 database schemas with exactly the same names. These schemas do not contain any objects.
I am more clear on NT AUTHORITY\IUSR - this seems to be a user for IIS and IIS is not even installed on new instance (IIS will not be used). So this one probably can be deleted (together with matching schema?).
I am not sure about NT AUTHORITY\NETWORK SERVICE (or how it got created to begin with - new databases created on new server don't have it. Newly created databases don't have NT AUTHORITY\IUSR either).
Neither of these 2 users exist at server level on a new instance or on an old instance.

    BOL says
Local System account. The name of this account is NT AUTHORITY\System. It is a powerful account that has unrestricted access to all local system resources. It is a member of the Windows Administrators group on the local computer, and is therefore a member of
the SQL Server sysadmin fixed server role
Network Service account. The name of this account is NT AUTHORITY\NetworkService. It is available in Microsoft Windows XP and Microsoft Windows Server 2003. All services that run under the Network Service account are authenticated to network resources as the
    local computer.

  • Installing Oracle 11g R2 on RHEL 5.9 server

    Hi,
I've been trying to install Oracle 11g R2 on a Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5.9 server but have not succeeded thus far. The server meets all the software and hardware requirements for Oracle 11g Release 2 and when it also has all the prerequisite packages/ RPM's on it, when checked manually. I have set up the various kernel, semaphore and local port range parameters in accordance with the Oracle guides for installing Oracle on RHEL 5. I also followed the online guides to create the "oracle" user and set up the groups (oinstall, dba, oper and asm).
However, when I run the installer, it shows "Failed" for all the prerequisite checks. I tried to ignore this and install Oracle but it failed at 37% and gave multiple errors, related to invoking target 'XYZ' of different files including makefile and gcc.
I suspect that either the installer is unable to detect these packages as they already exist on our server or it is something to do around permissions to the groups. I read on these forums that it might be because of a "cvu" folder created inside /tmp that requires '777' permission but am not sure if that's what's causing our installation to fail.
Please let me know how to proceed with the installation and guide me through this.
    Thanks.

    Hi, its Oracle 11g R2 -  2.0.3.6 .
    The O.S is Linux x86_64
server: RHEL 5.9 (Takinga) with kernel: 2.6.18
I've been working on this all day today and have managed to overcome the errors regarding the missing/ failed packages. I've also verified that my kernel parameters are correct; I had missed the kernel shmmni parameter yesterday.
The installer now detects all the packages & runs till 86% when it gives the error: "error invoking target client_sharedlib of makefile".
Kindly let me know how to proceed. Thanks in advance !

  • Oracle 11g R2 install problem on Windows Server 2008 R2 SP1

    Hi all,
Trying to install the Oracle 11g R2 database onto Windows Server 2008 R2 SP1.
I get as far as running the setup and a black window flashes up on the screen and disappears.
The log files only show the following:
    Using paramFile: C:\Temp\database\install\oraparam.ini
Checking monitor: must be configured to display at least 256 colors. Actual 65536 Passed
The number of files bootstrapped for the jre is 0.
The number of files bootstrapped for the oui is 0.
I've tried running setup -debug from the command line but no further information is logged.
Any help in troubleshooting further is appreciated.

That is the complete log file. No error messages or further information is given.
I'm not sure how to check:
Statement of Direction: Oracle Database 11g Release 2 – Microsoft Windows 7 and Windows Server 2008 R2 [ID 867040.1]
    I have checked on:
    http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E11882_01/install.112/e24283/toc.htm
The server meets all the hardware requirements. The default file share is accessible and it is running a supported browser. The installer is being run with Admin rights. I'm not sure what else I need to check.

  • Oracle 11g - Solaris 10 on cisco UCS server

I would like to know if anyone has experience with installing Oracle databases on cisco UCS servers.  I recently took over a dba shop and my client has purchased a cisco UCS server and is planning on migrating some databases currently on dedicated servers running on Solaris 10 and others running on Linux RH 5.4 platforms.  I need to find out if Oracle 11g and Solaris 10 is compatible and covered by Oracle licenses.  Does anyone have any specs and/or information on this topic?  Thanks in advance.
    Jonathan Begazo-Leon

    Jonathan,
there's a dedicated Oracle database forum (Database) where you can post your issue. In this forum here only 3rd party to Oracle migrations using the Oracle tools migration workbench or SQL Developer will be covered. As I can't move your thread, please close this one here and post your issue again in the database forum.

  • Oracle database reorganization (moving datafiles to new filesystems)

    Hi All,
We are planning to perform a database reorganization (moving datafiles to new filesystems) in our Production environment using SAPDBA.
We had noticed in our recent performance reports that few datafiles in some of the SAPDATAxx filesystems are having higher I/O contention and are putting heavy load on those filesystems resulting in poor performance. So, we had identified the datafiles and planning to move them to new SAPDATA filesystems (uniformly distribute the datafiles to stabilize the I/O). Below are the version information.
    SAP: 3.0F
    Oracle: 9.2.0.8
    OS: HP-UX 11.23
    SAPDBA: 6.20
I'm going through SAP notes and Oracle documentation on this. Can you please share your experiences if similar activity was carried out by any of you and the documents relating to this.
Your inputs on this is very much appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Vasu

If your goal is just to make use of new storage, it is fairly straightforward and quick to move the datafiles as others mentioned. However, moving the datafile will NOT reorganize tables/tablespaces.
You can optionally reorg tables/tablespaces in addition to the move of datafiles. This generally saves space and helps performance. If you decide to reorg, I would suggest you move the datafiles to faster storage then reorg (since reorg itself is highly IO intensive).
    Some points to consider:
    - perform the reorg when business use is least
    - perform online reorg where possible
    - online reorg creates temporary snaps, typically in the users default tablespace, make sure it has sufficient space
    - start with small tables/tablespaces first to get throughput estimate and also estimate of reduction in size
    - estimate the size of target tablespace (how small it is going to be compared to source) and build the target tablespace smaller to avoid wasting space
    - watch the space usage of the target tablespace when the reorg is running
    - if you are reorging individual tables, make sure the indexes are rebuilt
    Hope this helps.

Thanks in advance.Just like any scripting .. same commands you would issue at a command line .. put them in a script file. Unfortuanately, Windows, among it's various scripting limitations (vis a vis *nix) does not all the kind of input redirection needed to do it in a single file.
    Solution is something like this:
    echo shutdown immedate > shutdown.sql
    echo exit >> shutdown.sql
    sqlplus / as sysdba @ shutdown.sql
    del shutdown.sql
exitput that in a .cmd file. schedule .cmd file

  • Allocation of memory to Oracle 11g instance

We have a Vmware RHEL instance with 16GB of memory allocated to it. I had a query that is it possible to allocate 8GB from that for the Oracle database? My guess is no because Oracle database is automatically going to allocate the memory for itself but I may be wrong.
I hope, my question is clear that is it possible to allocate a certain amount for memory for the database.
Please revert with the reply to my query.

Yes, but It is probably easier for you to use the Enterprise Manager. It does not changes +/dev/shm+ - which by kernel default is set to 50% of available RAM. Which means that on a 16GB RAM box, Enterprise Manager cannot make Oracle use more than 8GB. Unless +/dev/shm+ is changed first to a larger allocation.
I also have a basic issue with your suggestion - dumbing down administration. Point-and-click on pretty button in shiny GUI to make a configuration change. With no knowledge about what that button does, what it changes, and how to change and maintain that without a GUI when a GUI is not available. Like in the middle of a night. Doing remote support. On a critical production server. Where only a console interface is available.
A sysadmin or DBA that needs a GUI to make changes, is like a one legged man running a race using a crutch. GUI admin tools like Enterprise Manager are not intended to be used as a crutch for filling the void of knowledge that a sysadmin or DBA is expected to have.

  • Moved CA to new server, CRL not properly created.

I need some advice on this one, I moved our CA to a new OES11 server and at the end of the CA import it gave me a page long java error about how it could not create the CRL.
The certificate and CA itself seem to be working fine, iManager updated the server certs without issues.
When I check the CA it *does* show the CRL but when I try to check it, it will hang and eventually show a blank screen.
I'm not sure how to proceed on this one, I don't know if the server hosting the CA requires any special configuration for it to be hosting the CRL as well.
There is a CRL container under our security container but there is not a lot of info in the objects contained within.

No special configuration needed..... you could retry deleting the CA object, and recreating with an import. Maybe try another browser/client where your are doing the iManager import (or if the import fails again/shows the error, possibly another server where you have iManager running).
Just as a reference, FireFox has always worked well for me when moving the eDir CA.

  • Ideas on how to export from Oracle (11g) for import into a MSSQL server?

    Hi folks,
Crazy question yes...but I have some devs that are needing to export some schemas/tables from Oracle to somehow import into MSSQL.
Are there any utilities our there, hopefully from Oracle that would allow for this? So far, all I can think of are to generate the DDL from the Oracle instance, and then do some scripts to output the data in a cvs type format....
    Anything better than this?
Any links or suggestions greatly appreciated.

Senior Oracle DBAThank you for the prompt reply. I'm looking into this and am finding some Oracle documentation, but just off the top of my head, this approach seems to assume the 2 database servers can see or talk to each other.
What if the oracle box is on one network...that cannot connect to the network that the MSSQL box is on. For example..running off some test data from one company to another company with networks that do not cross?Assuming some acceptable export/import utility, how do you plan on getting the file from the source to the target if the two servers are on networks that cannot talk to each other?Well, I'm still trying to gather facts, this is just a question coming in from some developers.
From what it may be, is that the can scp from site to site, but no direct connectivity between the database servers on the sites...isolated, maybe a DMZ...I dunno everything yet.Well, you either have connectivity between the two machines or you don't. Binary decision tree.
    IF  net_connectivity_exists
you can use oracle sqlnet enabled capabilities
         OR
you can transfer an export file via ftp, sftp, scp, etc.
    ELSE
you have to transfer an export file via sneakernet
