I am working in oracle11g on HP-UX.... after upgraded the oracle database from 10g... My application is very very slow and sometimes it hung....
I just want to know if there any bugs in oracle 11.2 over 10.2

Of course there are. All software has bugs. 11.2 has features that don't exist in 10.2, so of course it will have bugs that don't exist in 10.2. Are you hitting those bugs? Are they causing your problem? Who knows, but it is highly unlikely. You've given nothing with which anyone here can help to diagnose problems. However, if faced with your issue, the last thing I'd look for is a bug. I'd start working the problem exactly as I would with 10g. Use the available performance monitoring tools and see what it is waiting on.

How To Determine Oracle 11g Issues
Is there a script or way I can run a health check or data integrity on a Oracle 11g R2 (11.2.0.3) database server I don't own or have any experience with? I'm being handed a 11.2 11g Enterprise Edition & would like to see what the state of the database is and the included data. Is there somewhere I can start or some kind of script I can run to determine if this machine is doing well or needs specific attention?

I'm not sure how else to state this but if you were given a database server you didn't configure or use, you would like to know if there are invalid schema entries, What is an invalid schema entry?
critical database operational errors, Presumably, those would be logged in the alert log
performance problems, It's impossible, in general, to script that. You'd need to know what the performance requirements of the system are. You can run an AWR/ Statspack report and see that, for example, the server has been under heavy load. But it's impossible for a script to differentiate between "everything is operating as expected, the system is well tuned so that we can use as much of the hardware as possible" and "oh crud, response times just went through the roof and users are lighting up the phones with complaints"
loads of junk in the recycle bin, etc etc etc...Why do you care what's in the recycle bin? That's just space that Oracle is free to use when it needs to use it, there is no harm in having tons of objects and data in the recycle bin.
I have no experience with this server so I would like to analyze it and find out what / where attention is needed.That generally requires conversations with the users that depend on the system and the documentation around the system as much, if not more so, than running scripts against the database. You'll want to see what the written backup and recovery plan is, for example, and you'll probably want to verify that you can follow the plan and recover the last set of backups. No script is going to be able to tell you whether the last set of backups are recoverable, how they were taken, whether the documentation is up to date, whether the plan itself is reasonable, etc. You'll want to talk with users to understand how they use the system, what the performance requirements are, what problems, if any, they have, etc. Depending on the organization, that may involve looking at the bug tracking/ issue tracking/ ticket tracking application(s), it may involve conversations with humans, etc.

PeopleTool 8.49 and FSCM 9.0 on Oracle 11g issue
Dear All,
I have problem with FSCM 9.0 on oracle database.
I have setup PeopleTools successfully on the same server (Windows 2003 server, SP2)
- IBM Webshpere 6.1
- PeopleTools 8.49
- People FSCM 9.0
- Tuxedo 9.9
- Oracle 11GR1
- I create and import database by manual on user SYSADM, database FSDMO
- I login to Data Mover by SYSADM/SYSADM, import database FSCM database, Data Type: Demo
- Run import script.
My problem are:
- Failed SQL stmt:INSERT INTO PSMSGCATDEFN (MESSAGE_SET_NBR, MESSAGE_NBR, MESSAGE_TEXT, MSG_SEVERITY, LAST_UPDATE_DTTM, DESCRLONG) VALUES (:1, :2, :3, :4, TO_TIMESTAMP(:5,'YYYY-MM-DD-HH24.MI.SS.FF'), :6)
I alter this table by command
alter table PSMSGCATDEFN modify MESSAGE_TEXT varchar2(200);
and run script import again. Another error happen:
- File: e:\pt849-904-R1-retail\peopletools\SRC\pssys\rdmfld.cppSQL error. Stmt #: 350 Error Position: 480 Return: 3113 - ORA-03113: end-of-file on communication channel Process ID: 3284 Session ID: 135 Serial number: 275
Failed SQL stmt:SELECT FIELDNAME, LABEL_ID, LONGNAME, SHORTNAME, DEFAULT_LABEL FROM PSDBFLDLABL WHERE FIELDNAME IN (SELECT A.FIELDNAME FROM PSDBFIELD A, PSRECFIELD B WHERE B.RECNAME = :1 AND A.FIELDNAME = B.FIELDNAME) ORDER BY FIELDNAME, LABEL_ID
This error make the Data Mover hang on. I must kill this process.
Current now, My solution is change this line on sqlnet.ora:
old:
SQLNET.AUTHENTICATION_SERVICES= (NTS)
new:
SQLNET.AUTHENTICATION_SERVICES= (NONE)
and restart listener.
Start Data Mover and run import again.
I don't know where to start again and must start from the begin. I do not know does it delete and import again or not? Does it can solve my problem when I change above line on sqlnet.ora?
I do not know is there anybody have the same problem?
How can I fix it?
Many thanks anybody.
Best regards,Dear Nicolas,
Thanks for your answer.
I think the error of MESSAGE_TEXT is becuse of UTF8 database. I setup database default encoding is UTF8, but I import FSCM database is nonunicode.
I have another problem after I fixed the error of MESSAGE_TEXT.
Here is the message:
Updating statistics for ZONE_INV

Unsuccessful completion
I don't know what is the error because I can not see the error. I have checked this table and see It have data:
select * from PSACCESSPRFL;
result:
SYMBOLIC VERSION ACCESSID ACCESSPSWD ENCRYPTED
sa1 1 kCTsQ7kCrag= kCTsQ7kCrag= 1
SYSADM1 1 sBzLcYlPrag= sBzLcYlPrag= 1
Can you help me what should I do now? How can I restart from the error?
It run very slowly, more than two days but not finish. Total are 21333 tables.
I don't know is it finish? why it have error?
Thank so much.

Oracle 11g R2 Client Silent Installation Issue (PATH) Windows 7 x86
Hi All,
I'm hoping somebody can shed some light on this issue.
I created a Response file using the 'Save Response File' method during an interactive installation on a Windows 7 Enterprise x86 client. (file enclosed)
I have installed it multiple times now with multiple permutations of the command line (got caught out by the old lower case F in responseFile) but now I'm getting the same error each time (a critical error with the PATH according to the installation log). There is nothing wrong with the path length as the installation works fine in GUI mode and passes the Prereq check.
I launch the command line to install (with Run As Administrator) - "[location of setup.exe]\setup.exe" -nowait -silent -responseFile "[location of response file]\Oracle11gv2.rsp"

Oracle 11g Migration performance issue
Hello,
There a performance issue with Migration from Oracle 10g(10.2.0.5) to Oracle 11g(11.2.0.2).
Its very simple statement hanging for more than a day and later found that query plan is very very bad. Example of the query is given below:
INSERT INTO TABLE_XYZ
SELECT F1,F2,F3
FROM TABLE_AB, TABLE_BC
WHERE F1=F4;
While looking at cost in Explain plan :
on 10g --> 62567
0n 11g --> 9879652356776
Strange thing is that
Scenario 1: if I issue just query as shown below, will display rows immediately :
SELECT F1,F2,F3
FROM TABLE_AB, TABLE_BC
WHERE F1=F4;
Scenario 2: If I create a table as shown below, will work correctly.
CREATE TABLE TABLE_XYZ AS
SELECT F1,F2,F3
FROM TABLE_AB, TABLE_BC
WHERE F1=F4;
What could be the issue here with INSERT INTO <TAB> SELECT <COL> FROM <TAB1>?Table:
CREATE TABLE AVN_WRK_F_RENEWAL_TRANS_T

SSIS Oracle 11g 64 bit client upgrade Issue
After the oracle client upgrade from 10g to 11g, the ssis jobs are getting failed for the BadImageFormatException. Attempt to load Oracle client libraries threw This problem will occur when running in 64 bit mode with the 32 bit Oracle client components installed.
But the same package with same system requirements and same sql agent configuration is wroking fine in DIT. Please find below the system configuration in both environment.
DIT
Oracle Client - Oracle 11g 64 bit , Microsoft SQL Server - 32 and 64bit, Windows machine - 64 bt SP4, In job there is no configuration in command line to run in 32 bit mode since we are using the are using the .Net Provider/OracleClient Data Provider connection manager to the database .
UAT :
Oracle Client - Oracle 11g 64 bit , Microsoft SQL Server - 32 and 64bit, Windows machine - 64 bt SP4, In job there is no configuration in command line to run in 32 bit mode
In UAT, Everything looks as DIT but the job is not working fine in DIT.
I have gone through all the thread related to 32 64 bit, .Net Oracle client provide but i haven't found any solution for this problem.
Can you please tell me the missed out configuration in DIT and UAT? the exact problem for this issue ? what is the oracle components required for this connection? Its urgent.
What is missing in the oracle end?
Thanks
Satheesh32 bit apps will need 32 bit Oracle client software installed.
Hope it helps,
Greg -
Oracle 11g : Sequence Issues after impdp
Hi All,
We are migrating from Oracle 10g to Oracle 11g. As part of this, we take a expdp from 10g and successfully did an import using impdp on to Oracle 11g database.
But the problem is, there were few Primary key violations which occurred and all of them relate to sequences.
The Maximum data in the tables and the last number in the sequences differed which caused the issue.
Upon investigation and browsing the Web, http://www.nerdliness.com/article/2009/03/18/my-oracle-sequencedatapump-shenanigans ; I understood it could be because of the export taken while the application is online and writing to the database.
I reset all the failing sequences manually and it is fine now.
My questions now are
*1) Can we ascertain that the export taken when the source database is offline would eliminate the sequences issue.*
2) As this is being done in Production, I would like to make few checks to ensure that the sequences are properly imported. ---
Again reading few websites and oracle Forums, i found the below sql's..
select table_name, column_name, utl_raw.cast_to_number(high_value) as highval
from dba_Tab_columns
where owner = 'PRODUCTION_OWNER'
AND DATA_TYPE= 'NUMBER'
AND (OWNER, TABLE_NAME, COLUMN_NAME) IN
(SELECT CC.OWNER, CC.TABLE_NAME, CC.COLUMN_NAME
FROM DBA_CONS_COLUMNS CC
JOIN DBA_CONSTRAINTS C
ON CC.OWNER=C.OWNER
AND CC.CONSTRAINT_NAME=C.CONSTRAINT_NAME
WHERE C.CONSTRAINT_TYPE ='P'
ORDER BY 3;
SELECT SEQUENCE_NAME, MIN_VALUE, MAX_VALUE, LAST_NUMBER
FROM DBA_SEQUENCES
WHERE SEQUENCE_OWNER = 'PRODUCTION_OWNER'
ORDER BY LAST_NUMBER
If I relate the last_number with the highval and if they are same, does that mean the sequences are imported properly.
Note: We have sequence caching done and we are on RAC.

it could be because of the export taken while the application is online and writing to the database.I don't know what's your database's size , and what's acceptable downtime for you, but I could never propose such a migration tecnique to any of my customers, due to excessive downtime when databases are quite large.
It's quite obvious that you get such errors when the export is done while people are working, unless you use FLASHBACK_SCN or FLASHBACK_TIME parameter while exporting. But in this case, assuming you don't get errors (e.g. ORA-01555), you'll probably lose a lot ot transactions.
Assuming your 10g database is running in archivelog mode (which should be the default in production DBs) did you think of using RMAN to do the migration ? -

Is there any patch/work around in Oracle 11g?
Please advice
Thank you
RajWe had a similar issue when our organization upgraded to 11gR2.
It looks like it boils down to a change Oracle made in regards to how it works with correlated subqueries within an insert statement.
Anyway, this thread has a little more information:
Merge Command in 10g vs 11g
And it says to look at Metalink note 1109983.1 (which I can't seem to find).
Anyway, a workaround in thread is suggests (which worked for us) to wrap the insert subquery around a dummy decode clause, and oddly it will work.
eg:
INSERT (COL1, COL2) VALUES (1, (decode(1,1,(SELECT x.COL4 FROM TMP_TABLE3 x WHERE x.COL4 = DDD.P_ID)) ) ) ;
Quite a kludge, but at least it is an immediate fix to the problem, without having to rewrite anything. -
Export and Import issue in Oracle 11g
Hi All,
I have exported data using exp command in oracle 11g by keeping deferred_segment_creation FALSE.
Even then my zero records tables are not coming in export.
What could be the reason or what other thing i have to do to make it work.
Thanks in advance
Mohsin JTables that were created before you changed deferred_segment_creation to FALSE and do not have any rows would still be segment-less tables --- i.e. not exported.
You need to issue an "ALTER TABLE tablename MOVE" for each of such tables (after having set deferred_segment_creation to FALSE) to force a rebuild of these tables with segments before the export.
Thus, the sequence is
1. set deferred_segment_creation to FALSE
2. identify all tables with 0 rows
3. issue an ALTER TABLE tablename MOVE for each of such tables from step 2
4. Re-run your export
alternatively use conventional export (exp) instead of datapump export.

Oracle 11g decode issue with null
Hi,
we want to migrate from Oracle 10g to Oracle 11g and have an issue with decode.
The database has the following character set settings:
NLS_CHARACTERSET = AL32UTF8 in Oracle 11g and UTF8 in Oracle 10g
NLS_NCHAR_CHARACTERSET = AL16UTF16
If I try a select with decode which has null as first result argument I will get a wrong value.
select decode(id, null, null, name) from tab1;
("name" is a NVARCHAR2 field. Table tab1 has only one entry and "id" is not null.)
This select returns a value with characters which are splitted by 0 bytes.
In Oracle 10g the value without 0 bytes is delivered.
If I suround the decode with dump I get following results:
select dump(decode(id, null, null, name), 1016) from tab1;
Oracle 10g: Typ=1 Len=6 CharacterSet=AL32UTF8: 4d,61,72,74,69,6e
Oracle 11g: Typ=1 Len=12 CharacterSet=US7ASCII: 0,4d,0,61,0,72,0,74,0,69,0,6e
NLS_LANG has no effect on the character set of 'null' in Oracle 11g.
Non null literals work:
select dump(decode(id, null, 'T', name), 1016) from tab1;
Oracle 10g: Typ=1 Len=6 CharacterSet=UTF8: 4d,61,72,74,69,6e
Oracle 11g: Typ=1 Len=6 CharacterSet=AL32UTF8: 4d,61,72,74,69,6e
select dump(decode(id, null, N'T', name), 1016) from tab1;
Oracle 10g: Typ=1 Len=12 CharacterSet=AL16UTF16: 0,4d,0,61,0,72,0,74,0,69,0,6e
Oracle 11g: Typ=1 Len=12 CharacterSet=AL16UTF16: 0,4d,0,61,0,72,0,74,0,69,0,6e
Here the scripts for creating the table and the entry:
create table tab1 (
id NUMBER(3),
name NVARCHAR2(10)
insert into tab1 (id, name) values (1, N'Martin');
commit;
Is it possible to change the character set?
Could you please help me?
Regards
MartinThis doesn't have the problem.looks this doesn't solve the problem (of returning a value with characters which are splitted by 0 bytes):
SQL> select * from v$version where rownum = 1
BANNER
Oracle Database 11g Enterprise Edition Release 11.2.0.1.0 - Production
1 row selected.
SQL> select dump(decode(id, null, null, name), 1016) from tab1
union all
select dump(case id when null then null else name end, 1016) cs from tab1
DUMP(DECODE(ID,NULL,NULL,NAME),1016)
Typ=1 Len=12 CharacterSet=US7ASCII: 0,4d,0,61,0,72,0,74,0,69,0,6e
Typ=1 Len=12 CharacterSet=AL16UTF16: 0,4d,0,61,0,72,0,74,0,69,0,6e
2 rows selected.You need to explicitly convert the third parameter to char:
SQL> select dump(decode(id, null, to_char(null), name), 1016) from tab1
DUMP(DECODE(ID,NULL,TO_CHAR(NULL),NAME),1016)
Typ=1 Len=6 CharacterSet=WE8MSWIN1252: 4d,61,72,74,69,6e
1 row selected. -
Environment Issue in Oracle 11g.
I have a java stored procedure loaded into Oracle 11g that reads a CLOB type, and getting a null pointer exception in one oracle 11g environment and not in another. Following is the code snippet,
<code>StringBuffer str = new StringBuffer(); String strng; BufferedReader bufferRead = new BufferedReader(clb.getCharacterStream()); while ((strng=bufferRead .readLine())!=null) str.append(strng); </code>
I believe it has nothing todo with the code, because same code is not giving any error and working fine in the other. Following is the version of oracle 11g in both the environments
Oracle Database 11g Enterprise Edition Release 11.1.0.7.0 - 64bit Production PL/SQL Release 11.1.0.7.0 - Production CORE 11.1.0.7.0 Production TNS for Linux: Version 11.1.0.7.0 - Production NLSRTL Version 11.1.0.7.0 - Production
can you please guide where else can i find the root cause of this issue. Is there a way to find the loaded java class versions on the database?I'd suggest running it from SQLPlus, where all your System.out.println statements will show up and you won't need to bother the DBA for that output ... unless you have already done so or if you happen to be the DBA. From the snippet you provided the only thing that looks like it could be null is "clb".

Oracle 11g - External Table/SQL Developer Issue?
Oracle 11g - External Table/SQL Developer Issue?
==============================
I hope this is the right forum for this issue, if not let me, where to go.
We are using Oracle 11g (11.2.0.1.0) on (Platform : solaris[tm] oe (64-bit)), Sql Developer 3.0.04
We are trying to use oracle external table to load text files in .csv format. Here is our data look like.
======================
Date1,date2,Political party,Name, ROLE
20-Jan-66,22-Nov-69,Democratic,"John ", MMM
22-Nov-70,20-Jan-71,Democratic,"John Jr.",MMM
20-Jan-68,9-Aug-70,Republican,"Rick Ford Sr.", MMM
9-Aug-72,20-Jan-75,Republican,Henry,MMM
------ ALL NULL -- record
20-Jan-80,20-Jan-89,Democratic,"Donald Smith",MMM
======================
Our Expernal table structures is as follows
CREATE TABLE P_LOAD
DATE1 VARCHAR2(10),
DATE2 VARCHAR2(10),
POL_PRTY VARCHAR2(30),
P_NAME VARCHAR2(30),
P_ROLE VARCHAR2(5)
ORGANIZATION EXTERNAL
(TYPE ORACLE_LOADER
DEFAULT DIRECTORY P_EXT_TAB_D
ACCESS PARAMETERS (
RECORDS DELIMITED by NEWLINE
SKIP 1
FIELDS TERMINATED BY "," OPTIONALLY ENCLOSED BY '"' LDRTRIM
REJECT ROWS WITH ALL NULL FIELDS
MISSING FIELD VALUES ARE NULL
DATE1 CHAR (10) Terminated by "," ,
DATE2 CHAR (10) Terminated by "," ,
POL_PRTY CHAR (30) Terminated by "," ,
P_NAME CHAR (30) Terminated by "," OPTIONALLY ENCLOSED BY '"' ,
P_ROLE CHAR (5) Terminated by ","
LOCATION ('Input.dat')
REJECT LIMIT UNLIMITED;
It created successfully using SQL Developer
Here is the issue.
It is not loading the records, where fields are enclosed in '"' (Rec # 2,3,4,7)
It is loading all NULL value record (Rec # 6)
*** If we remove the '"' from input data, it loads all records including all NULL records
Log file has
KUP-04021: field formatting error for field P_NAME
KUP-04036: second enclosing delimiter not found
KUP-04101: record 2 rejected in file ....
Our questions
Why did "REJECT ROWS WITH ALL NULL FIELDS" not working?
Why did Terminated by "," OPTIONALLY ENCLOSED BY '"' not working?
Any idea?
Thanks in helping.I don't think this is a SQLDeveloper issue. You will get better answers in the Database - General or perhaps SQL and PL/SQL forums.

Oracle 11g - External Table/Remote File Issue?
=============================
I hope this is the right forum for this issue, if not let me, where to go.
We are using Oracle 11g (11.2.0.1.0) on (Platform : solaris[tm] oe (64-bit)), Sql Developer 3.0.04
We are not allowed to put files on the CSV file system (Server A), where DB instance is running. We are able place CSV files on another server(Server B), where DB instance is not running.
We are trying to use oracle external table to load text files in .CSV format.
How do we create a Directory (Create Directory) on Server A DB to point to File system of Server B?
Is it feasible?
Any idea?
Thanks in helping.The Solaris DBA should be able to mount the filesystem for you. Either that or you have to get creative transferring the file like this;
http://www.linkedin.com/groups/Getting-creative-external-table-preprocessor-140609.S.50474382?qid=ba673ce4-c4bb-40c5-8367-52bd2a2dfc80&trk=group_search_item_list-0-b-ttl&goback=%2Egmp_140609
