Oracle 11g, Locator and 3D data

Hi,
Could somebody please clarify me about what 3D features in Oracle 11g are included in Locator, and which are part of the Spatial option? The documentation says, "Three-dimensional geometry support: the use of 3D spatial indexing, 3D operators, and subprograms on 3D data is not supported for Locator." So, is it correct to say that 3D data itself is included in Locator, but the use of the features listed above belong to Spatial?
Thanks for your help,
Matti

According to the following (for 11.2):
Oracle Locator
Those would all be covered by locator. A few more items were added to locator for 12.1 if you are (will) use that instead:

    All,
I'm trying to decipher the differences in the Locator vs Spatial functionality for 3D data in Oracle 11gR2.  I found the archived discussion:
    https://community.oracle.com/thread/2566650
In this discussion, the answer was that using the SDO_RELATE and SDO_ANYINTERACT operators on 3D data with a 2D index was covered under Locator.  My assumption, then, is if I have 3D data with a 3D index and use the SDO_RELATE operator, that is not covered under Locator and I would need to pay for the Spatial licensing.  Is that correct?
Can I assume that if I create a 2D index on the 3D data, then I'm safe to use all the functions in "Table B-1 Spatial-Related Features Supported for Locator" in the Spatial Developer's Guide?
    Thanks,
    Steve

  • Oracle 11G,10g and DB2 replication?

    Oracle 11G,10g and DB2 replication?
    =======================================
We are using Oracle 11gR2. We have a table in Oracle filled with partial data (over 200K+, it may grow to 1M). The rest need to be obtained from DB2. It is not from one DB2 table.
The DB2 is configured to run Oracle 10g within it. We have given http interface, where we need to supply(Push) the partial data using HTTP_UTIL package for each row, then DB2/Oracle 10g return the result as XML.
It is a network heavy, slow and not reliable.
Are we able to replicate tables between Oracle 11g and DB2/oracle 10g?
We like to leverage the features on 11gR2 effectively.
I find some interesting folks in this forum.
    Did anyone face such situation?
I like to know the best approach with good performance options.
    Any idea?
    Thanks in helping.

  • Oracle 11G database and Application Server installed on same server

What are the pros and cons installing Oracle 11G database and Oracle Application Server (Forms and Reports) on the same server?
    Thank you in advance, Sonya

Some may want their data in a separate network zone for security reasons.
It also depends if it is the same people that do maintenance on db and appserver.
It is lower cost with one server, and only 1 Os to set up.

  • HTTP server on Oracle 11g R1 and apex listener

I have installed APEX 4.0.1 on Oracle 11g R1 and things went well until the installation of the APEX listener.
    - I followed the installation guide and I opted for the basic connection type but I found the following message:
the network adapter could not establish the connection
I then checked my services and i noted that i had only four services which are:
    - OracleDBConsoleORCL
    - OracleJobSchedulerORCL
    - OracleOraDb11g_home1TNSListener
    - OracleServiceORCL
And there is no oracle HTTP server as I had for oracle 9.2 on another machine.
Can Anybody help on this ?
thanks in advance for your help,
    Pierre

    Hi Pierre,
as Tony posted, you usually chose the APEX Listener to access your APEX instance by using a J2EE container (like OAS/OC4J, Oracle WebLogic, Sun Glassfish) rather than using OHS+mod_plsql. So you'd need to search for the service that comprises the J2EE container to which you deployed the war-File for the APEX Listener.
So as it seems you did not deploy to an existing J2EE container (you would not the proper URL...) you probably want to use the embedded web container of the APEX Listener. This container does not register any service and is started on demand.
If you deployed to an existing J2EE container, use its access scheme ( PROTOCOL://HOST:PORT/CONTEXT ) to access the APEX Listener, where CONTEXT is defaulted to apex if you stick to the installation manual. Remember to configure the APEX Listener after deployment via PROTOCOL://HOST:PORT/CONTEXT/listenerConfigure , as described in the installation manual.
Please follow the installation manual for the APEX Listener thoroughly to configure that instance and get the right port to access the service on the machine on which you started that embedded container, probably your localhost.

Please in addition to your own words, post full copy-paste of command line sessions including actual error messages (e.g. cannot access database is not an actual error).
Try from a command window (cmd), assuming Windows platform:
    sqlplus / as sysdba
If it says "Connected to idle instance.", try:
    SQL> startup
Did you just install XE or was it working before and now suddenly it doesn't? (what changed in the latter case?)

  • Oracle 11g Client and XML DB

We have moved our applications in a mix environment (DB on Linux and App. Server on Windows) on Oracle 11g.
On the past we have tested the applications and they were working, now seems nothing is ok, it is like the 10g instant client on Windows is unable to communicate with Oracle 11g DB working on XMLDB.
May I ask if someone have seen the same problems?
Testing on Windows all the environment it was all working, but it was installed all on the same machine.

Just need confirmation that the old 10g Java based Enterprise Manager is gone forever with 11g and there is no management console in the 11g client installation (at least I cannot find one). Confirmed. Same as in the Database install.
And after searching the threads ond Oracle documentation, it appears that I can install 11g database on my local pc and then have a dbconsole (not grid control). Please confirm that this dbconsole only points to the specific database installed on the same local pc, and it cannot be used to manage remotely located 10 or 11g databases. Confirmed. The DB Console is tied to one ORACLE_HOME one one HOST for one INSTANCE. The HOST and INSTANCE are used in the directory naming (of all stupidity) and configuration file contents under the ORACLE_HOME.
I am still in the planning stages for grid control installation and would like to use the smaller enterprise manager - java control. But again, there is no such Oracle application for 11g now? I must use grid control to manage multiple databases?Confirmed. Fortunately, the Grid Control is included in the Database license as per the database Licensing manual, and you can put the Grid Control on a separate machine. Since the Grid Control is fed using a single agent for all product (database, and anything else) on the target host, the Grid Control puts on a much smaller footprint on a database machine than even the old Java console.
Note that the 11g Grid Control will be (at least) announced tomorrow by WebCast - check OTN.

  • Password reset option difference b/w Oracle 11g R1 and R2

    Hi,
I came to know that the password reset option is different comparing 11g R1 and R2. My understanding is as below.
For R1, you need to do a password reset for the user id separately and for the account access which that particular user id has access will be different.
For R2, if you reset the password for user id which will reset the password for user id and as well as the all the accounts which that user has.
    Here is my Ques.
    1) Let me know if my both above statements are correct.
    2) Because When i click on home button in Identity self Service, i do see an password reset option as "account" and value as "Oracle Identity manager". i could see the same option even though if i integrate an application which is database related.
Also the doc for R2 says you have two options to do the password reset. Pls check 6.2) Changing Password and option 2. Let me know what is correct and what is wrong here.
    http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E27559_01/user.1112/e27151/my_profile.htm
    Thanks in Advance,
    Satheesh.

Please find my answer with respect to OIM 11gR2
Suppose you are selecting AD from the drop down and resetting the password then 'Password Updated' task will be inserted into the process definition of AD
and propogated to the target system. It simply means you are changing UD_ADUSER_PASSWORD field in process form.
Even after doing this change you will be able to login with your old password
When you select value as "Oracle Identity Manager" then it is changing the user password at this instance. So the new password you are giving comes into effect for that user and you will be able to login next time with this new password only. Also 'Change User Password' task is inserted in all process definitions where this task with same name is present.
This is the real password change and the previous option you did is to change the value in process form for that particular account and propogate it to the target.
    Hope this helps

  • ORACLE 11g Spatial and GRS 80

    Hi,
I am working on a project that will require both projected coordinates and geographic coordinates for different product files coming in. I have no issues defining, storing, extracting or matching the geographic coordinates. My columns for those coordinates with SRID 8307 are defined in the user_sdo_geom_metadata table as follows:
    INSERT INTO
    USER_SDO_GEOM_METADATA (TABLE_NAME, COLUMN_NAME, DIMINFO, SRID)
    VALUES
    ('INVENTORYGEOMETRY','INVGEO',MDSYS.SDO_DIM_ARRAY(MDSYS.SDO_DIM_ELEMENT('Longitude', -180, 180, .05),MDSYS.SDO_DIM_ELEMENT('Latitude', -90, 90, .05)),8307);
    the index:
    create index "MYDB"."INVGEO_IDX" on "MYDB"."INVENTORYGEOMETRY"("INVGEO") indextype is MDSYS.SPATIAL_INDEX;
However, I am confused as to how I am going to have a column that has both Geographic and Projected coordinates. Am I allowed to define more SDO_DIM_ELEMENT(s) fro the SDO_DIM_ARRAY with different min/max values. As an example, would I be able to still use an SRID of 8307 for both WGS 84 and GRS80 data (ellipsoid), something like the following:
    INSERT INTO
    USER_SDO_GEOM_METADATA (TABLE_NAME, COLUMN_NAME, DIMINFO, SRID)
    VALUES
    ('INVENTORYGEOMETRY','INVGEO',MDSYS.SDO_DIM_ARRAY(MDSYS.SDO_DIM_ELEMENT('Longitude', -180, 180, .05),MDSYS.SDO_DIM_ELEMENT('Latitude', -90, 90, .05),
    (MDSYS.SDO_DIM_ELEMENT('FIXEDGRID_.5Resolution', 0, 26916, .5)),8307);
Is that possible or do i have to create a new column in the database?
Also, I don't know the relationship between the SDO_ELLIPSOIDS table and the SDO_GEOMETRY table. Will you please explain it to me?
I thank you for any help you can give. I'm confused as to how I'm going to make this work for both the geographic and projected coordinates or if I'm going to be able to make it work.
    Thank you,
    Erica

    Erica,
You can have geodetic and projected data in a single column of a table BUT you can't spatially index them as the index can't work on both projections.
You have to, as Bryan says, create two columns:
    create table INVENTORYGEOMETRY (
      fid integer,
INVGEO sdo_geometry, /* For the geodetic data */
INVPROJ sdo_geometry /* for the projected data */
);If you do this you need to create two user_sdo_geom_metadata entries. One as you have already done, and the other for the projected data:
    INSERT INTO
    USER_SDO_GEOM_METADATA (TABLE_NAME, COLUMN_NAME, DIMINFO, SRID)
    VALUES ('INVENTORYGEOMETRY','INVPROJ',
MDSYS.SDO_DIM_ARRAY(MDSYS.SDO_DIM_ELEMENT('X',0,1000, .05),MDSYS.SDO_DIM_ELEMENT('Y',0,1000, .05)),XXXXX);Where you replace 0,1000 ranges with your actual data range and XXXXX with your actual projected SRID (eg 28355 as in the example below).
Now, assuming this table gets the INVGEO column populated first (via some external dynamic feed) you could synchronise the projected column via a trigger such as the following:
    create trigger inventorygeometry_proj_bi
    before insert
    on inventorygeometry
    FOR EACH ROW
    begin
if (:new.invgeo is not null) then
         :new.invproj := mdsys.sdo_cs.transform(:new.invgeo,28355);
       end if;
    end;
    /Finally....
Also, I don't know the relationship between the SDO_ELLIPSOIDS table and the SDO_GEOMETRY table. Will you please explain it to me?The SDO_ELLIPSOIDS table is part of the implementation of projections within the Oracle Spatial package. When you use a SRID in an SDO_GEOMETRY, Oracle uses that SRID to query the underlying tables (of which SDO_ELLIPSOIDS is only one member) to get the properties of the projection eg the definition of the ellipsoid being one.
    I hope this all helps.
Don't forget to award points as you see fit if our answers are deemed correct or helpful.
    regards
    Simon

  • Oracle 11g Certification and Workshop Requirement

    Hello,
I have recently cleared below Oracle Exams.

    1Z0-052 (Oracle 11g Admin I)
1Z0-053 (Oracle 11g Admin II) - Cleared in May 2013
I haven't completed the Workshop requirement which indicates I am not OCP as of now.
Question is, is there any specific time limit within which I have to complete the Workshop? Specifically can I wait for another 6 months before completing the Workshop?
If I can wait for 6 months, is there any chance OU will stop offering these workshops in next 6 months (by Dec 2013)?
    Thanks

There is no time limit. But more importantly, you do not need to attend either of the DBA workshop courses. There are many courses which will meet the requirement. As you have the knowledge to  have passed the exams, you should attend a more advanced course. Perhaps the Database Performance Tuning course, or (if you want a shorter and  cheaper one) SQL Statement Tuning.

I do agree with you on the book and the online docs but nowadays i do think that the oracle online documentation could have wrong or misplaced information. So reading the online documentation along with a book that has some hands on experience parameters should be the best solution. Also you can support the knowledge by searching the internet.

    Dear 789393,
What you can possibly do is go to the amazon and search for RMAN. See the results and search web and comments about those specific books. You can purchase whichever you want that meets the criteria of yours.
