Oracle 11g:Query to return only 1 to 1 relationship & random selection
Hi
I have a complex query to modify but I have below the sample tables and data with only very few fields(only affected fields).
Query based on 2 tables b_test and s_test.
Pls see below.
create table b_test(building_id number not null,invalid varchar2(1));
create table s_test(sub_building_id number not null,building_id number ,invalid varchar2(1),sequence_no number);
insert into b_test values (1000,'N');
insert into b_test values(2000,'N');
insert into b_test values(3000,'N');
commit;
insert into s_test values(1,1000,'N',90);
insert into s_test values(2,1000,'N',91);
insert into s_test values(3,1000,'N',92);
insert into s_test values(4,1000,'Y',93);
insert into s_test values(5,NULL,'N',NULL);
insert into s_test values(1,2000,'N',94);
insert into s_test values(2,2000,'N',95);
insert into s_test values(3,2000,'N',96);
insert into s_test values(4,2000,'N',97);
insert into s_test values(5,2000,'N',98);
insert into s_test values(6,NULL,'N',NULL);
insert into s_test values(10,3000,'N',99);
insert into s_test values(11,3000,'N',100);
commit;The query below returns all rows required:(also see results:)
select b.building_id,b.invalid,s.sub_building_id,s.sequence_no from b_test b,
(select * from s_test where invalid='N') s
where b.building_id = s.building_id(+)
and b.invalid='N'
Results:
BUILDING_ID INVALID SUB_BUILDING_ID SEQUENCE_NO
1000 N 1 90
1000 N 2 91
1000 N 3 92
2000 N 1 94
2000 N 2 95

2000 N 4 97
2000 N 5 98
3000 N 10 99
3000 N 11 100Now there are 2 requirements:
1)How can the above query be changed so that 1:1 relationship if sub_building_id is returned?i.e For 1 building_id, only show 1 sub_building(This could be a random selection)
(Pls help with query)
The results would be like
BUILDING_ID INVALID SUB_BUILDING_ID SEQUENCE_NO
1000 N 1 90
2000 N 1 94
3000 N 11 1002)How can the same SEQUENCE_NO be shown for all sub_buildings for the same building? (Pls help with query)
The results will be:
BUILDING_ID INVALID SUB_BUILDING_ID SEQUENCE_NO
1000 N 1 90
1000 N 2 90
1000 N 3 90
2000 N 1 94
2000 N 2 94

Thanks for posting the CREATE TABLE and INSERT statements, and your existing query; that's very helpful.
The query below returns all rows required:(also see results:)
select b.building_id,b.invalid,s.sub_building_id,s.sequence_no from b_test b,
(select * from s_test where invalid='N') s
where b.building_id = s.building_id(+)
and b.invalid='N'
Results:
BUILDING_ID INVALID SUB_BUILDING_ID SEQUENCE_NO
1000 N 1 90
1000 N 2 91
1000 N 3 92
2000 N 1 94
2000 N 2 95
2000 N 3 96
2000 N 4 97
2000 N 5 98
3000 N 10 99
3000 N 11 100
When I run your query, I get NULL for sequence_no on the last 2 rows, where building_id=3000. The numbers 99 and 100 don't seem to occur in either table. Did you post the worng sample data and/or results?

1)How can the above query be changed so that 1:1 relationship if sub_building_id is returned?i.e For 1 building_id, only show 1 sub_building(This could be a random selection)
(Pls help with query) Here's one way:
WITH got_r_num AS
SELECT sub_building_id
, building_id
, sequence_no
, ROW_NUMBER () OVER ( PARTITION BY building_id
ORDER BY sequence_no
) AS r_num
FROM s_test
WHERE invalid = 'N'
SELECT b.building_id
, b.invalid
, r.sub_building_id
, r.sequence_no
FROM b_test b
LEFT OUTER JOIN got_r_num r ON r.building_id = b.building_id
WHERE NVL ( r.r_num
, 1
) = 1
ORDER BY b.building_id
;This is called a Top-N Query , because we're picking N items (N = 1 in this case) from the top of an ordered list. What makes one item the "top", and another one "lower"? That's determined by the analytic ORDER BY clause, in this case
ORDER BY sequence_noThat means the row with the lowest sequence_no (for each building_id) will get r_num=1. If you want a random row from that building_id to be chosen as #1, then you can change the analytic ORDER BY clause to
ORDER BY dbms_random.valueYou can ORDER BY anything you like, even a constant, but you must have an analytic ORDER BY clause. ROW_NUMBER requires an analytic ORDER BY clause.
The results would be like
BUILDING_ID INVALID SUB_BUILDING_ID SEQUENCE_NO
1000 N 1 90
2000 N 1 94
3000 N 11 100
Again, I don't see where the 100 comes from. The results I get are:
BUILDING_ID I SUB_BUILDING_ID SEQUENCE_NO
1000 N 1 90
2000 N 1 94
3000 N 11
2)How can the same SEQUENCE_NO be shown for all sub_buildings for the same building? (Pls help with query)
SELECT b.building_id
, b.invalid
, s.sub_building_id
, MIN (s.sequence_no) OVER ( PARTITION BY s.building_id)
AS seq_no
FROM b_test b
LEFT OUTER JOIN s_test s ON s.building_id = b.building_id
AND s.invalid = 'N'
The results will be:
BUILDING_ID INVALID SUB_BUILDING_ID SEQUENCE_NO
1000 N 1 90
1000 N 2 90
1000 N 3 90
2000 N 1 94
2000 N 2 94
2000 N 3 94
2000 N 4 94
2000 N 5 94
3000 N 10 99
3000 N 11 99
Again, I don't see where you get sequence_no = 99. The results I get are:
BUILDING_ID I SUB_BUILDING_ID SEQ_NO
1000 N 1 90
1000 N 2 90
1000 N 3 90
2000 N 1 94

It looks like you cahnged your sample data from
insert into s_test values(10,3000,'N',NULL);
insert into s_test values(11,3000,'N',NULL);to
insert into s_test values(10,3000,'N',99);
insert into s_test values(11,3000,'N',100);The queries I posted are niow getting 99, like you requested.

SQL- Query that return only one record
Hello,
is it possible to execute a pure SQL-Query which returns only one row although multiple rows are found.
It is no problem in PL/SQL, but I have no idea if the same is also possible in SQL.
thanks in advance

Oracle 10g vs Oracle 11g query performance
Hi everyone,
We are moving from Oracle 10g to Oracle 11g database.
I have a query which in Oracle 1g takes 85 seconds to run, but when I run the same query in Oracle 11g database, it takes 635 seconds.
I have confirmed that all indexes on tables involved are enabled.
Does anyone have any pointers, what should I look into. I have compared explain plans and clearly they are different. Oracle 11g is taking a different approach than Oracle 1g.
ThanksPl post details of OS versions, exact database versions (to 4 digits) and init.ora parameters of the 10g and 11g databases. Have statistics been gathered after the upgrade ?

Oracle 11g Table function returns no records on first call
Hello,
On a Oracle 11g R2 I've a table function ( PIPELINED ) returning rows selected from a table.
The first time the function is selected, in a session ( I've tried to disconnect and log in again ), it returns no rows.
I've tried to log the call using DBMS_OUTPUT and from what I see the select on the table function returns no rows and no output is printed. So I presume Oracle is not calling the function.
The same function on a similar environment ( same db versions, patches and database structure ) works fine. The second environment is a production environment so it has more memory and some other settings enabled.
Does anyone know of settings that can relate to this behaviour ?
Thanks in advance for the help.

JPA named query should return only first result
Hello,
I'm quite new to JPA.
How can I return only the first result of a query? This must happen in the database, not by getSingleResult() from the EntityManager because the table has appr. 15 mio entries.
Does the JP QL provide this? like the LIMIT keyword in MySQL?
thanks from germany

I want to be able to refer to the results of C1 in another column expression C2. I get ORA-00904: "C1" invalid identifier, which makes sense. I know that I can repeat the entire very long CASE again in my C2 DECODE, but wondering if I can save the server many extra cycles from evaluating the CASE again.
SELECT [very long nested CASE statements] as C1, DECODE(C1,1,'YES','NO') as C2 FROM TABLE
Many thanks,
AKHello
You can't refer to the alias at the same level so you either have to repeat the CASE statement or wrap it in an inline view and refer to the alias in that. i.e.
SELECT
c1,
DECODE(C1,1,'YES','NO') as C2
FROM
SELECT
[very long nested CASE statements] as C1
FROM
FROM TABLE
)HTH

Query to return ALL rows even those with zero counts
Hi,
The following query will return only those rows that have a non zero count value:
select c.id, a.name, count(*) as XYZ from CON c, CUST a
where c.help !='1' and (c.id = a.id) group by c.id, a.name order by c.id;
The results are:
1 ME 3
3 YOU 4
What i want is to return all rows in CUST and the count, XYZ, that correspond to each row in CUST that matches the whare condition above, even if the count is zero.
ie
1 ME 3
2 WE 0
3 YOU 4
Can this be done?You may want to get the counts then do the outer join. If you simply count with an outer join you will get 1 for 'WE' because there is a row in the cust table with 'WE'. This may work for you;
with
cust as (
select 1 id, 'ME' name from dual union all
select 2 id, 'YOU' name from dual union all
select 3 id, 'WE' name from dual),
con as (
select 1 id, '2' help from dual union all
select 1 id, '2' help from dual union all
select 1 id, '2' help from dual union all
select 2 id, '2' help from dual union all
select 2 id, '2' help from dual union all
select 2 id, '2' help from dual union all
select 2 id, '2' help from dual)
-- end of test data
select a.id, a.name, nvl(c.cnt,0) xyz
from cust a,
(select id, help, count(*) cnt
from con
where help !='1'
group by id, help) c
where a.id = c.id(+) -
Oracle 11g Vs previous version
Hi,
can someone please explain Oracle 9i/10g Query Execution vs Oracle 11g Query Execution features for some of the new statements introduced in 11g using CBO.
How the SQL vs PL/SQL caching using Oracle 11g ?
Can we use Optimization Hints in Oracle 11g Queries ? useful or not w.r.t performance and add directions to the Developers.
Any Improvement on XML parsing?

WMI Query to retrieve only active IPv4 address
My turn to ask a question. I am running BGInfo for all workstations but at this stage want to only return the Active IPv4 address. I have a custom WMI query set up in BGInfo:
SELECT IPAddress FROM Win32_NetworkAdapterConfiguration WHERE IPEnabled = 'True'
This will return both IPv4 and v6 addresses. Without disabling IPv6 on my client workstations, is there a way I can get the query to return only the IPv4 address? Or should I instead create a custom vbscript in BGInfo to get the v4 address.
Cheers
JeremyYou'd need to nose through the results and reject any IPv6 addresses.
This sample assumes IPv6 addresses always contain a ":" in the
string...
strMsg = ""
strComputer = "."
Set objWMIService = GetObject("winmgmts:\\" & strComputer &
"\root\cimv2")
Set IPConfigSet = objWMIService.ExecQuery _
("Select IPAddress from Win32_NetworkAdapterConfiguration WHERE
IPEnabled = 'True'")
For Each IPConfig in IPConfigSet
If Not IsNull(IPConfig.IPAddress) Then
For i = LBound(IPConfig.IPAddress) to
UBound(IPConfig.IPAddress)
If Not Instr(IPConfig.IPAddress(i), ":") > 0 Then
strMsg = strMsg & IPConfig.IPAddress(i) & vbcrlf
Next
End If
Next
Wscript.Echo strMsg

Storage Capacity of Oracle 11g
Hi,
What would be the max storage capacity of Oracle 11g ? Is it only limited by the capacity of the storage media or there is some inherent limitation or its will depend on the OS on which the DB is installed ?
ThanksIn fact there are limitations:
- max. 65536 Tablespaces
- max. 128 TB per Bigfile TS
=> 8 Exabyte
of course more an abstract limitation or at the moment a limitation by storage ;-)

How To Call SQL Server SP's in Oracle 11G
Hi
I have sucessfuly established the connectivity between Oracle 11G and SQl Server 2008 and I am able to select the data from views or tables of sql server in oracle.
but now I have 1 issue I am not able to call or execute the SP's or function of sql server in oracle 11G.
Can you please suggest or help me.
Thanks
Regards
Anant.Anant,
Which gateway are you using to connect to SQL*Server ? Is it the Database Gateway for SQL*Server (DG4MSQL) or Database Gateway for ODBC (DG4ODBC) ?
If it is DG4MSQL then have a look at this note in My Oracle Support -
Different Methods For Calling MS SQL Server Procedures Using DG4MSQL (Doc ID 197192.1)
If you still have problems using DG4MSQL then post an example of what you are trying to do and the errors you receive.
If you are using DG4ODBC then this does not support calling remote stored procedures.
Regards,
Mike

In the execution plan of STEP-3, against ID-1 the operation RESULT CACHE is shown which shows the result has been retrieved directly from Result cache. Does this mean that Oracle Server has Incrementally Retrieved the resultset?
Because, before the execution of STEP-2, the cache contained only 2 records. Then 1 record was inserted but after STEP-3, a total of 3 records was returned from cache. Does this mean that newly inserted row is retrieved from database and merged to the cached result of STEP-1?
If Oracle server has incrementally retrieved and merged newly inserted record, what mechanism is being used by the Oracle to do so?

Edited by: 965300 on Oct 15, 2012 12:25 AMNo, the RESULT CACHE operation doesn't necessarily mean that the results are retrieved from there. It could be being
written to there.
Look at the number of consistent gets: it's zero in the first step (I assume you had already run this query before) and I would
conclude that the data is being read from the result cache.
In the third step there are 4 consistent gets. I would conclude that the data is being written to the result cache, a fourth step repeating
the SQL should show zero consistent gets and that would be the results being read. -
Dg4odbc 11.2 to mysql desc table issue, query return only one record
<h2>Hi,
I have the following set up:
11g R2 RAC oracle database, dg4odbc 11.2, UnixODBC 2.3 driver manager, MySQL ODBC 5.1.7 Driver on 64 bit Suse SLES 11 server.
Remote database MySQL version 5.0.67 running on 32 bit linux server.
I am having the following Issues:
1. When desc table, sometimes only the first field is shown:
SQL> desc sub_index@mybilltracker;
Name Null? Type
subject_id NOT NULL NUMBER(20)
SQL> desc "sub_index"@mybilltracker;
Name Null? Type
subject_id NOT NULL NUMBER(20)
Some other times I am able to see the correct table definition:
SQL> desc "sub_index"@mybilltracker;
Name Null? Type
subject_id NOT NULL NUMBER(20)
sess_id NUMBER(10)
sess_yr NUMBER(10)
subject_name VARCHAR2(255)
SQL> desc sub_index@mybilltracker;
Name Null? Type
subject_id NOT NULL NUMBER(20)
2. Select count(*) returns the total number of rows correctly. Select * or Select "field name" from table returns only one row:
SQL> select count(*) from "mbt_user"@mybilltracker;
COUNT(*)
2
SQL> select "user_id", "email" from "mbt_user"@mybilltracker; _(always return only one record!)_
user_id email
1 [email protected]
Has anybody seen this? Can somebody help me pinpoint the problem? Thank you!

Oracle 11g and PRO*C : pre-compile errors only with 11g !
Hi !
I didn't find a forum specific to pro*c, so here i am.
I've downloaded Oracle 11g and recompiled our applications using pro*c
We currently precompiling without any problem our sources against Oracle 7, 8, 9, 10.
With Oracle 11g, it doesn't work !
every EXEC SQL followed by a command works.
every EXEC SQL followed by a query generates the same error.
Example :
char *oracle_date_courante()
static char buf[SIZE_ORADATE+1];
EXEC SQL SELECT sysdate into :buf from DUAL;
if(ORA_SQLERROR())
oracle_error("sélection date courante");
buf[0]=0;
return buf;
PRO*C output :
Erreur Ó la ligne 105, colonne 2 dans le fichier src\oracle.pc
EXEC SQL
.1
PLS-S-00000, SQL Statement ignored
erreur sÚmantique Ó la ligne 105, colonne 2, fichier src\oracle.pc:
EXEC SQL
.1
PCC-S-02346, PL/SQL a trouvÚ des erreurs sÚmantiques
So, we investigated... And found that thoses errors come when we use the option sqlcheck=semantics.
If we use an inferiour check level, it works but because we use PL/SQL keywords, pro*c prints errors and wants us to provide the 'semantics' sqlcheck level !
So, it's a vicious circle !
Any ideas ?
Thanks...
VincentAdding the option common_parser=yes removes the errors !
But brings errors linked to the PL/SQL parser such like
CSF-S-00000, ORA-06544: PL/SQL : erreur interne, arguments : [55916], [], [], []
1>, [], [], [], []
1>ORA-06553: PLS-801: erreur interne [55916]
Really vicious..and still not precompiling !
By the way : Server is 10.2.0.1... and i guess thoses errors are normal since the common parser is not available in this version...
So bye bye option common_parser and i'm back to my orignals errors.

Oracle 11G - Oracle AWR export import Query Statistics.
I have Oracle 11G, i have seen the sql statements through Historical AWR option from Top Activites in performance tab. Can i export all AWR query statistics from production machine so that i can analyze all logs after importing it.
How can i know all statistical sql ( information ) and performace of production machine ?
any help ?Hello,
have you checked the DBA_HIST* objects to see what / how was imported?
If the awr export dosn't get the contents of the rolling buffer, then you won't see any session statistics that are only there. If you want to get the contents of the rolling buffer you have to dump the contents of it with :
oradebug setmypid
oradebug dump ashdump 10
and load it into your "test" database.
But before doing this I suggest you read the related metalink documentation if any!!!
Regards,
Franky
