Oracle 11g RAC on HP BladeSystem
We are on our way to evaluate the HP BladeSystem on which we will also deploy RAC.
Regdg. the same we had some queries:
We will have 4 network ports on each DB node. 2 will go for iSCSI and the remianing 2 will be bonded (so it'll appear as 1) and the bonded port alongwith VLANs will be used for public LAN, private LAN as well for other access to the systems. Is this supported i.e. will RAC install happen successfully using virtual interfaces? And is that the correct way to do it?
If not, then what is the alternative? Should we have 2 more ports on each node and also have 2 dedicated switches for the interconnect? Is that what most others who have experience running RAC on blades have done?
Also, it would be helpful if experts or others with a similar experience can help understand how different is it from a non-blade deployment (one diff that we have already understood is that it'll be iSCSI and not FC).
Many thanks.
On Hp-Unix, although we have ServiceGuardextension for Oracle RAC (SGeRAC), we will still need to configure Oracle Clusterware (CRS). In this case Oracle Clusterware works along side of SGeRAC.
OCFS2, or Oracle Cluster FileSystem is a storage alternative made available on limited Operating Systems (OEL,RHEL,MS Widows etc).
I think that answers your question. Haig said that, you might want to use Shared raw volumes/devices/partitions in combiation with SGeRAC. We could use HP Cluster File System, but must understand it is not Certified yet.
For database storage, we can use ASM/RawPartitions. I'd recommend a verification with Oracle Certification matrix for such issues.

Can you please tell any suggesstions to solve this issue? Is our hardware is not sufficient? Or any software settings has to be done?. I tried most of hte technique ,bt the problem still exists.

Install Oracle 11G, RAC with VMWare, APPS R12, and OBIEE on one server?
Dear Experts,
I'm looking to upgrade my skills, and want to learn more of:
Oracle 11G, RAC, VMWare, APPS R12, and OBIEE
My server has two quad cores (8 CPU altogether) and 16 gigs of RAM.
Years ago, I took a shots at installing RAC on multiple servers and firewire.
One thing I remember was that after I installed RAC, I was not able to use the database unless I enabled all the RAC processes on the server. So, I was not able to just boot the database and use it in the traditional single server manner.
Which I will also want to do.
1) Does this symptom/aspect/characteristic of RAC install still exist?
2) Is it realistic to install all this software on one server?
If so, what is the order of operations for the install?
3) If I have to prioritize, I'd like to install
Oracle 11G, OBIEE, and APPS R12,
Would installing R12 and OBIEE on the same server present any conflicts or issues?
If not, what is the order of operations for the install?
11G, R12, then OBIEE?
Thanks a lot!Hi,
1) Does this symptom/aspect/characteristic of RAC install still exist? No.
2) Is it realistic to install all this software on one server?
If so, what is the order of operations for the install? For learning/traning/demonstration purpose you can Install all these software on same machine.
3) If I have to prioritize, I'd like to install
Oracle 11G, OBIEE, and APPS R12,
Would installing R12 and OBIEE on the same server present any conflicts or issues?
If not, what is the order of operations for the install?
11G, R12, then OBIEE?There will not be any conflicts. I would suggest you to select vmware or virtual box in order to configure all these sw's.
I have done such a configuration on my laptop with i7 Quad processor, 16GB RAM and 640 GB HDD.
I have Installed 2 node RAC, 2 Node ERP and all are running smoothly without any issues.

GagsHi,
Q) Can Oracle 11g Release 2 RAC be installed on Solaris (x86)??yes, you can Install it on Solaris X86
Q) Can the links of Oracle RAC installation over Unix and Linux be taken as base?? As i haven't seen any doc for installing 11g RAC on Solaris, where as it was provided in Oracle 10g.yes, you need to consider Oracle RAC installation over Unix and Linux be taken as base as base document.

We would like to migrate our Siebel database from Sql Server 2005 to Oracle 11g RAC. Can you suggest the best way to do that ?You will need much more which suggestions.
You will need a Siebel professional which has done this type of migration. Migrating the Database is not a task so hard, after migrating your environment should be functional and healthy it is usually the task problematic.
The hardware can be changed if needed. Can you please suggest the best approach ?We can recommend the minimum recommended, but this documentation already does, you need to do a analysis on your environment and ask a vendor Siebel tell the which is recommended for you and how to find the best "number" for you, in your case is very hard because everything changes.

Can Oracle 11g RAC support 2 separate databases?
1. Can Oracle 11g RAC support 2 separate databases given that it asks for SCAN ip for cluster with a single Listener port number?
2. Will the Oracle 11.2 database connections work successfully if I setup a mandatory DNS server within the Oracle RAC servers?
I'm leading a team for a 11g project and appreciate responses.
Thanks
Satish. No Real Application Cluster technology has ever supported more than one database.Quite untrue.
I know that both you and Tom Kyte take the stand that a cluster should have only 1 instance per node.
That doesn't mean that it is not possible to have more than one database in a cluster -- i.e more than one instance in a node.
That doesn't mean that it must always be so. Installing a separate cluster and additional EE + RAC licences for a separate database can be quite expensive. Of course, your reply is "consolidate". That is another debate that has been going on for years.
A discussion on multiple databases on RAC is also at
