ORACLE 11g silent installation
Guys,
I tried silent installation using ORACLE 11.2.0.2 on ORACLE ENTERPRISE LINUX 5.
./runInstaller -silent -response "/vm/db_install.rsp"
getting error as below...

-suppressPreCopyScript
Suppress the execution of precopy script.
-acceptUntrustedCertificates
Accept untrusted certificates from a secure site.
-noconfig
Do not execute config tools.
-noconsole
For suppressing display of messages to console. Console is not allocated.
-formCluster
To install the Oracle clusterware in order to form the cluster.
-remotecp <Path>
Unix specific option. Used only for cluster installs, specifies the path to the remote copy program on the local cluster node.
-remoteshell <Path>
Unix specific option. Used only for cluster installs, specifies the path to the remote shell program on the local cluster node.
-executePrereqs
To execute only the prerequisite checks.
-ignorePrereq
To ignore running the prerequisite checks.
-ignoreInternalDriverError
To ignore any internal driver errors.
Command Line Variables Usage
Command line variables are specified using <name=value>; for example:
*[ session: | compName: | compName:version: ]variableName=" valueOfVariable"]*
Session/Installer variables are specified using:
*[session:]varName=value*
Ex 1: session:ORACLE_HOME_NAME="OraHome"
Ex 2: ORACLE_HOME_NAME="OraHome"
The lookup order is session:varName then just varName. The session prefix is used to avoid ambiguity.
Component variables are specified using:
*[compInternalName:[Version:]]varName*
Ex 1: oracle.comp1:1.0.1:varName="VarValue"
Ex 2: oracle.comp1:varName="VarValue"
The lookup order is compInternalName:Version:varName, then compInternalName:varName, then just varName
Please guide me proper installation of oracle silent mode..
Regards,
Sakthi.

Anil Shenoy.yes, of course.
using different environment during the installation of the new engine, you could install the new oracle home 11 also tomorrow (including the SBP).
infact, before the ./RUNINSTALLER you have to set the environment
setenv ORACLE_HOME /oracle/SID/112_64
setenv ORACLE_HOME_SRC /oracle/SID/102_64
setenv ORACLE_HOME_TGT /oracle/SID/11202
setenv LIBPATH $ORACLE_HOME/lib:$LIBPATH
setenv PATH /oracle/SID/112_64/bin: $PATH -

Does anyone know where to find this file? I am a student starting my class next week and trying to have everything ready before.

Oracle 11g XE - Installation Error
I am trying to install oracle xe 11g on my Win XP. The installation goes thru well. But when we start the database it starts too. However If I want to login it wont allow.
I tried to use connect using sys account as sysdba I get the following message:
Connected to an idle instance.
After some investigation I figured that there is a script that is not properly formatted in 'postDBCreation.sql". The following is the change that I found the error:
create spfile='C:\oraclexe\app\oracle\product\11.2.0\server\dbs/spfileXE.ora' FROM pfile='C:\oraclexe\app\oracle\product\11.2.0\server\config\scripts\init.ora';
This should have been like below
create spfile='C:\oraclexe\app\oracle\product\11.2.0\server\dbs\spfileXE.ora' FROM pfile='C:\oraclexe\app\oracle\product\11.2.0\server\config\scripts\init.ora';
After this change I tried to run XE.Bat file but it is throughing all kinds of SQL errors.
Can someone tell me what is wrong with this beta version of the Oracle 11g XE installation.
Lastly get started link also is not working too!!!
Thanks much in advance,

Oracle 11g client installation on Solaris in non GUI mode
Hi,
I want to know if there is a way i can install Oracle 11g client on Solaris 10 machine in non GUI mode (ie. i want to do it from a command based terminal)
Thanks
AnupHi Anup
You have two ways to install it
1) Client installation without response file
Please Refer to Doc ID 885643.1
2) With Response file
Refer to the document available in Document library
Document Oracle® Database Client Installation Guide
11g Release 2 (11.2) for Solaris Operating System
Note: from 11gR2 onwards you can create a response file from GUI also and then use it later on for silent installation.
Hope this is helpful for You

Sudhir

Client 11g silent installation guidance
Hello everyone,
I am just starting my journey into the world of Oracle. Typically it has not been a smooth start hence my post here.
I have been asked to arrange a silent install of the 11g Client (v11.1.0.6.21 specifically) onto a Windows XP machine. I diligently did some reading on the net as there is zero documentation or install media here - just the installation files. I managed to create a response file using "setup.exe -record -destinationFile newbie.rsp", modified some minor settings and tried to:
setup.exe -silent -noconfig -nowait -responsefile "c:\newbie.rsp"
Unfortunately I just cannot get the text-based "Oracle Universal Installer" window to hide during the install, regardless of what I put in the response file. So I am not doing very well on the "silent install" front.
Then I found this thread: Oracle Client 11g Release 2 silent installation.
However the installer I have doesn't seem to have the "save the current session as a record file" option.
So, would someone be kind enough to point me in the direction of some up to date doco I can read please? I am keen to learn all about this but I just can't seem to find a place to start.
Any suggestions are greatly received and appreciated.
Best regards,
TroyThanks for the swift response Ansiktet!
+>>There is an default response file provided in the installation directory,+
Great. The only file & folder structure I have starts from:
\install
\access\...
\images\...
\reource\....
access_setup.bat
addLangs.bat
oraparam.ini
oui.exe
unzip.exe
\stage
\Actions\...
\Components\...
\Queries
install1.jar
invDetails.properties
products.xml
shiphomeinfo.properties
shiphomeproperties.xml
setup.exe
I have had a look through and can't find a sample response file. Does this file & folder structure match what you were expecting I should have? And if so, where might I find the sample please?
+>> you can make it easy for you and just edit this one, its quite self-explaining.+
I found a few examples on the net and the "-record" option generated a very nice one for me to start from.
The problem is, regardless of what I put in, the OUI command-line style window always seems to be displayed.
I have put in lines such as:
FROM_LOCATION="\\Software\Apps\Third party\Oracle\Client 11g\stage\products.xml"
ACCEPT_LICENSE_AGREEMENT=true
SHOW_SPLASH_SCREEN=false
SHOW_WELCOME_PAGE=false
SHOW_RELEASE_NOTES=false
SHOW_SUMMARY_PAGE=false
SHOW_CUSTOM_TREE_PAGE=false
SHOW_COMPONENT_LOCATIONS_PAGE=false
SHOW_INSTALL_PROGRESS_PAGE=false
SHOW_REQUIRED_CONFIG_TOOL_PAGE=false
SHOW_CONFIG_TOOL_PAGE=false
+>> Then you run it with the same command you used before.+
The comment in the other thread implied this method has been superceeded. Are you familiar with the newer method and where I might find some doco on it (to educate myself)?
Thanks again,

Oracle 11g Client Installation on Ubuntu
Hi, I tried to install the Oracle 11g Client on my Dell Inspiron laptop running ubuntu, the thing is that I did every step described in the Installation Guide but when I ran the ./runInstaller file, at the installation point the assistant raises an error and prompts for an action (Ignore, Retry, Cancel), and even if I choose ignore it keeps raising the same error, then I noticed in my terminal that the errors was because ubuntu couldn't find some commands used in the installation script, and that there was no installation steps for ubuntu in my guide, so I think the Client Installer I downloaded wasn't for ubuntu... could be the reason why I can't install the client? is there a script or some way to install the client on ubuntu?
Thanks!
Edited by: user10232758 on Oct 23, 2008 7:34 AMUnfortunately there's no (official) installation guide from Oracle,because it's not supported. If you want to continue go to the Linux Technology Center on OTN and follow the instructions for unsupported platforms (under Installation Guides):
