Oracle 11g Windows 64 Bit 2008 Does Not Start on Next Boot
Hi all
We have Windows 2008 Standard Server R2 64 Bit. We installed Oracle 10g 64 Bit thru using download of
win64_11gR2_Database
It works perfectly OK when installed. We are able to create tablespace, schemas , import our database etc. and works as desired.
But on the Reboot of the Server - It does not work
Kindly advise some method to setup the path of default spfile where it should be defined

Are you having the DHCP used for the networking ? My best guess is that either you have the service of the database set to Manual which is not letting the db to be started when the machine is rebooted . What is the error message coming when you are trying to start the db?

Oracle 11g XE listener does not start automatically during boot
Hi,
This happened to me recently I just wanted to share it with you.
For development I was running Standard Edition, at some point I decided to run also XE on the same server for another reasons. Everything was working fine, except that after restart of the server, the XE listener is not starting automatically. Debugging the startup script I found that this happens because of a bug in the code, which assumes that XE listener is running if it finds the word LISTENER within the processes list. I didn't found any obligation in the docs for running XE without any other databases on the same host.
In file /etc/init.d/oracle-xe, at line 556 the code is failing:
1 + status='oracle 2889 1 0 May13 ? 00:00:05 /oracle/ora112se/bin/tnslsnr LISTENER -inherit'
2 + '[' 'oracle 2889 1 0 May13 ? 00:00:05 /oracle/ora112se/bin/tnslsnr LISTENER -inherit' == '' ']'
As you can see I have another listener(the one for SE) running and because of the XE startup script found the keyword LISTENER it’s supposing that the XE LISTENER is already running.
To fix this simply change line 556 from:
1 status=`ps -ef | grep tns | grep oracle`
To:
1 status=`ps -ef | grep tns | grep oracle | grep xe`
Now XE listener is started automatically during boot.
Sve
Blog: http://sve.to
Twitter: sgyurovI though the same thing, but XE LISTENER is running on localhost and port 1522. On the other hand XE have local_listener explicitly set to the very same connection descriptor. Even XE installation was second on this server.
I've could change that yes, but the startup script doesn't seemed to have this mind.

[Solved] Network does not starts on every boot
Yet another problem on fresh arch...
Network service does not starts every time I booting my headless. For every 10 attempts service starts 5 or 6 times only.
Ping says: Networking unreachable.
systemctl status network:
network.service - Static IP Connectivity
Loaded: loaded (/etc/systemd/system/network.service; enabled)
Active: inactive (dead)
'systemctl start network' just hangs. In order to get it start I have to reboot the box hoping next boot service will start.
I am not using dhcp (if it makes a sence). Service was configured as described in wiki for static IP assigning.
The config itself:
[Unit]
Description=Static IP Connectivity
Wants=network.target
Before=network.target
BindsTo=sys-subsystem-net-devices-enp4s1.device
After=sys-subsystem-net-devices-enp4s1.device

ExecStop=/sbin/ip addr flush dev enp4s1

What's wrong?
Thanks in advance for any help.

I got this interface name from ip addr, how it should be named if 'enp4s1' is wrong?
journalctl is here: http://bpaste.net/show/104083/
I found only one string realted to this device name:

Is there some other logs where it can be checked? -
Windows listener +service does not start automatically eventhough Automatic

When I restart the database server, the listener is not starting automatically , so as the service.
Both are set to start automatically.
This was working before and all of a sudden, this problem appeared.

So now we have to manually restart the listener and service , for the database to be opened. Is it possible to give direction what areas need to check, to solve this issue?
Thanks.Hi Krithi,
Can you confirm my understanding here:
* Since a short time the automatic startup of the listener and Oracle instance fail.
* You can manually startup the listener and database instance without any problem, and then all runs as expected
so far so good?
What's your procedure to start the listener and DB instances?
Are you performing the startups with your own user account, or SYSTEM, or a dedicated Oracle account?
Are the windows services running under SYSTEM, a dedicated Oracle user....??
Could it be that the system administrator installed something (like a new Oracle client) which would have changed some settings?
Can you compare the environment variables (ORACLE_HOME, ORACLE_SID, PATH) between the account YOU use for manual startup and those for the user account used to (auto)start the services?
Maybe you can try to plan a reboot after you have set the problematic services to run under your profile?
Well.... a few points to investigate if not yet considered.

Oracle 10 g OEM does not start after XP boot
Hallo!I am currently studying for the Oracle 10g Administration OCA
I installed Oracle 10 g on Windows XP but once I boot the OS and enter the OEM url on the browser,OEM does not load.
I am forced to go to the command prompt and manually start OEM via the command
emctl start dbconsole.
How can I configure my oracle to enable OEM to automatically start after booting the OS?

Installation of TREX 7.0 on 64bit windows then SAP does not start
I have implemented EP7 Portal (NW04s SP11) on a MS-SQL DB with windows 2003 64bit hardware. I also want to install TREX which is version 7.0 on the same server.
After installing TREX the http_server would not start. I followed OSS note 1008299 that instructed me to set IIS to run in 32 bit mode as TREX 7.0 really isn't a 64 bit application!!
I performed this but now the service for my SAP Java instance will not start:
error : "The dynamic link library librfc32.dll could not be loaded" (SCS does start OK)
Its obviously got something to do what I've just performed...
any help anybody?
thanks
SB.Hi Simon,
Actually trex was not released for a 64 bit component. But in the installation CD, it was printed mistakenly.
For that only, SAP has given note 1008299 to run IIS in 32 bit mode instead of 64 bit mode, because although you have done the installation as a 64 bit machine, its for 32 bit platform only.
Running the script will start your IIS on a 32 bit mode and also, change your executables, file folder as well.
Previously, i also had the same problem and once i did as per the note, its working perfectly now.
Thanks and Regards,

Windows Zero Configuration does not start automatically
It won't start automatically, even though I have set it to automatic in the Services Tab. Every time the computer goes to sleep, logs out or restarts, I have to go back into Services and restart it. How can I get it to start automatically. NOTE: I HAVE CHANGED THE STARTUP TYPE IN THE SERVICES TAB BUT IT IS TO NO AVAIL (I have asked this question in other places, and they still give me this answer, so I hope you guys are smart enough to not tell me what I already said I did.)
On the recovery tab of the service properties, set them all to restart. Does that work for you? If you can not start a service, there might be some kind of malware or virus that is forcing the service to start. Could also be a corrupted file on the hard drive. If you look at your event logs, does it show what any error messages?

Windows Service (SMB) does not start automatically
I have a client with an Xserve G5 running 10.4.8 with all software updates applied. Recently, the client decided to buy a new Ricoh multi-function printer, copier, fax machine. We've configured a share point on the server that the Ricoh uses to deposit the incoming faxes and scans. It works fine, but the downside is that it only works over SMB or FTP. I went with SMB (Windows Sharing) because of Apple's flakey implementation of FTP over the years.
The problem is that when the server gets rebooted -- due to power outtage, software update, whatever -- the Windows sharing does not turn itself on like all of the services do. I have to go into Server Admin and turn on Windows sharing manually.
Is there any way to get the Windows Sharing to turn on automatically at boot up like all of the other services do?I had the exact same problem after applying the 10.4.8 combo update. This thread solved my problem:
http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=2962778
In short, I had to disable the "Workgroup Master Browser" setting in Server Admin > Windows Service > Settings > Advanced. This is enabled by default, by the way. -
Dhcpcd does not start automatically on boot
Hi everyone,
I have just installed Arch (64 bit) and am running on a dynamic, wired connection.
I followed the Beginners' Guide and enabled the dhcpcd service during the installation so that it would start automatically on boot.
systemctl enable [email protected]
However, I currently must issue the command "dhcpcd" each boot before the internet starts to work.
Does anyone know how I can automate this process or if I need to further configure my network connection?
Thank you in advance.

Dhclient did not work automatically on boot either.
Others seem to have experienced similar issues but I don't see any real solutions in any of these posts, despite being marked as solved. For example, adding "-t 120" to the dhcpcd start line in /usr/lib/systemd/system/[email protected] did not work for me.
I also tried the following but it did not work either and I had to issue "dhcpcd" before internet started working.
Install and configure wired and wireless networking
# pacman -S netcfg ifplugd
# cd /etc/network.d
# ln -s examples/ethernet-dhcp .
Make sure the WIRED_INTERFACE and WIRELESS_INTERFACE lines is uncommented
# nano /etc/conf.d/netcfg

Oracle Redhat 64 bit install does not find right video chip or drivers
Dear Experts,
There is a nice server that I want to install Redhat 5, update 5 on.
I downloaded, from Oracle edelivery, the Linux 64 bit, Redhat 5, Update 5,
and wrote it to bootable CD.
"V20658-01.zip","611558646","0C35737CD35BC26C212D205DF064CE2A","D0C7EF7CFF9635FECFDDB6BB724B1523851C1733","Oracle Linux Release 5 Update 5 for x86_64 (64 Bit) - CD 1 of 6"
and the other 6 CDs.
However, when I went to test the install, I saw the messages:
Probing for video card: ATI Technologies ES1000
Failed to start X server.
Attempting to start VESA X. Failed.
Falling back to text mode.
The crazy thing is, both the card and the chip are from NVidea:
Video Adapters
Description: NVIDIA GeForce 9800 GT
Chip Type: GeForce 9800 GT
DAC Type: Integrated RAMDAC
Memory: 512MB
Video BIOS: Version 62.92.49.0.11
Driver Provider: NVIDIA
Driver Version: 7.15.11.8048
Driver Date: 11-12-2008

Description: Trigger USB Graphics Chipset Family (1P-E)
Chip Type: Trigger USB 2.0 Graphics Controller
DAC Type: Internal
Memory:
Video BIOS: Video BIOS 1.0
Driver Provider:
Driver Version:
Driver Date:
This is very odd, for a few reasons:
- the card is a few years old, and the distribution is new.
- Windows finds the correct information for this card, that it is an Nvidea card.
- A different simpler card gave the same error message (NVidea GEForce 6800)
What is the secret to installing this version of Redhat in GUI mode?
Thanks a lotThanks for responding.
The motherboard is an Asus DSBF-DE with Dual Xeon CPUs and
an SSI EEB form factor. Used mainly in servers.
It was definitely certified for:
Red Hat Enterprise Linux AS 3.0 x86_64Bit
And certified according to this:
http://www.linuxtested.com/results/system.php
And was used in this HP linux compat server.
http://h10010.www1.hp.com/wwpc/ca/en/sm/WF06b/15351-15351-3328410-3328419-3328419-3682822-3706045.html
But my problem is the video card.
When I tried installing Redhat 2.1 years ago, the
install was awful. It started the GUI. But never
found my card. When booting it could only go to
level 3 character mode. I tried reinstalling over and over
until I got it to work by trial and error. Redhat 3
was MUCH better. It found it the first time perfectly.
The Redhat install docs say:
http://docs.redhat.com/docs/en-US/Red_Hat_Enterprise_Linux/4/html/System_Administration_Guide/Display_Configuration-Video_Card.html
2.8.2. Video Card
Probe for video card is selected by default. Accept this default to have the installation program probe for the video card during installation. Probing works for most modern video cards. If this option is selected and the installation program cannot successfully probe the video card, the installation program stops at the video card configuration screen. To continue the installation process, select your video card from the list and click Next.
But I'm not even getting to that initial GUI.
I can find much about certified CPUs and motherboards.
But nothing good so far on video cards.
Does anyone know where I can find a good list of certified video cards?
Thanks a lot! -

My Windows XP bootcamp does not start anymore
Hi and Happy New Year to @ll,
I think my bootcamp Windows XP partition didn't like the last Power cut.
As I intended to boot from it, the cursor stays on the Windows XP icon then blocks.
I can see the disk and its content from the finder ; I think the MBR is damaged.
Is there a way to repare it?
Thanks to @ll
ClaudioThe easiest way was to insert the bootable Wondows XP setup into the CD-ROM reader, then reboot the iMac with ALT-key pressed down, then choose the Windows CD-ROM icon which appeared in the Bootcamp deices choice.
Afterwhile, Windows XP setup program propose to type R to repair a Windows XP installation ; then it requires to type 1 (of the alpha keyboard) + enter to choose the C: drive to repair.
Then type "exit" and enter and the systeme reboots on the repaired drive.
I guess that the MBR was out of order and that the repairing process consisted in copy the MBR backup to the initial MBR.
That's it
