Oracle 11gR2 64 bits and 32 bits client together??

Hello Gurus, one question for you..
We are installing FIN 9.1 over Tools 8.51 on Windows 2008 and with Oracle 11g2. Our questions is which is the best configuration?
- 11gR2 64 bits and 32 bits client (for application/ batch server)? Would this actually work?
- 11gR2 32 bits (even though it's not certified)?
I would gladly appreciate any advise/comments. Thanks.
Andy

You'll need to install Oracle 64bit (for the database - the 32bit database software won't install on a 64bit OS), and since you're on Windows, you'll also need the Oracle 32bit client (unlike previous version, there's no 32bit librairies delivered within 11gR2 64bit database software). It is fully certified and works fine.
Nicolas.

  • Oracle 11gR2 RAC and DR setup

    Environment:
    Oracle 11gR2 RAC (2 node) with ASM
    HP-UX B.11.31 U ia64
    We have configured two ASM disk group for Data & FRA, and we configured RMAN backup into FRA location. Now our Database, Log file, Archive logs and RMAN backup files all are in ASM on primary site.
    Our network team is using Recover Point to mirror all the disks into DR site; we have no setup from Oracle side. What is the possible configuration that we need to have in DR site from Oracle side in order to bring-up the database in-case of primary site failure (disaster).
    I am new to Oracle RAC can some one give me a suggestion.

  • MS Exchange 2007 - 64 bit and Entourage Client issue

    Hi guys -
    I'm a new one with Mac and I have got this problem so far:
    I have Exchange 2007 on 32 and 64 bit platforms
    from the Entourage I can see all mailboxes that are on Exchange 32 bit server and no issues at all here... I just go and add Exchange account and that's it...
    but the problem is when I do the same for any mailbox which is sitting on Exchange 64 bit server -> nothing happens no errors, nothing... I don't see anything at all...
    The question is: what I have missed here? or perhaps, it's not supported yet... Is there any kind of workaround
      Mac OS X (10.4.9)

    Since Entourage is not an Apple product, you'll get better response if you use a forum dedicated to Microsoft's Mac products such as <http://groups.google.com/groups/dir?sel=33607053> rather than an Apple forum.
    Be sure to search the forum first in case someone has already had a similar question answered. You'll get your answer faster this way. Post your question in the forum if you don't find anything that helps you.

  • Oracle Express 11g and Instant Client

    I installed Oracle Express 11g on a Win 7 32 bit machine.
    I verified from another machine I could connect to this instance using SqlPlus.
    On a different Win 7 32 bit machine I downloaded and installed instant client.
    I'm unable to connect to the Oracle Express 11g instance.
    Firewall is turned off and User Account Control is set as low as it will go.
    I set the PATH as it tells you too.
    I did create a TNS_ADMIN pointing to tnsnames file I'm using.
    But when I try connecting in SqlPlus using 'system @ dbname' I keep getting the following error message:
    ORA-12154: TNS:could not resolve the connect identifier specified
    I'm out of options.

  • Byte to bit and bit to byte conversion

    Hello,
    Does anyone know how to covert a byte into an array of booleans and vice versa? I think it has something to do with bitwise operations like >>.
    Thanks.

    If this right:
        public static byte bitsToByte(boolean[] bits)
              return bitsToByte(bits, 0);
        public static byte bitsToByte(boolean[] bits, int offset)
              int value = 0;
            for (int i = 0; i < 8; i++)
                   if(bits[i] == true)
                        value = value | (1 << i);
            return (byte)value;

    Waiting for valiable help
    Regards,

    The minimum requirements are in the installation guide:
    http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E11882_01/install.112/e24186/reqs.htm#CHDGJEJE
    You need at least 1GB RAM for the database server, is it possible the OS and/or other applications already occupy more than 1GB, so you don't have enough memory for Oracle?

  • How many days can I free trail oracle 11gr2 enterprise

    Hi All,
    I have downloaded and installed Oracle 11gR2 Enterprise 64-bit on Windows 7 64-bit operating system. Can someone here tell me how many days can I free to use (free trail) before I need to buy a listence key?
    Thanks in advance!
    Alex Feng

    There is no "+license key+" - nothing as silly as that.
    You can use it as long as you want - but only for development purpose. If you run any kind of production on it, then you need to be licensed.
    And Oracle has a bunch of pretty mean suit-wearing pirate-eating lawyers. They just got over a billion US dollars in a court of law from SAP, because of their (subsidiary's) illegal use of Oracle software. And they already circling for a second kill - accrued interest on this amount.
    By the same token, they will go after you or anyone else violating Oracle licensing. Oracle plays hardball in this respect. Ask SAP. Ask Google (currently being sued). Ask Apache (denied a TCK license) who has now left the Java Process Community council. Ask companies that had been forced into an Oracle s/w audit...

  • Oracle 11gR2 Installation on Win7 Pro (Net Configuration Assistant failed)

    Hi Guys,
    I am trying to install Oracle 11gR2 on a new Window7 Professional Laptop.
    I get the error "[INS-20802] Oracle Net Configuration Assistant failed." at time of Oracle Database configuration.
    Log files says

    I did read through the DHCP issues and installed the Loopback adaptor and configured the "Oracle_HostName" system variable.
    I tried both plugging in/out the network cable (If Plugged in my laptop is connected to a work group).
    Anyhelp ASAP is appreciated.

    No Srini,
    I opted to create a starter database as part of the installation.
    The error occurs "during installation" while trying to do the database configurations.
    (I did try once without installing and configuring the Loopback adapter (With and without plugging into the network).
    Later I read some of the problems with DHCP and installed/configured the Loopback adapter.
    Then tried Installing Oracle 11gR2 (With and without plugging into the network)
    But end up getting stuck at the same Net Configuration Assistant failure).
    Any advise ?
    By the way, thanks for the support.

  • Oracle Client 64-bit and Oracle Client 32-bit on the same server

    Hi,
    I have a Windows 2008 server 64-bit with Oracle Client 64-bit and Oracle Client 32-bit installed on different directories (D:\Oracle and D:\Oracle32)
    Is it possible to define for certain applications to use the TNSNAMES entry from the 64-bit Oracle Client
    and for other applications to use the TNSNAMES entry from the 32-bit Oracle Client
    Once I installed the Oracle Client 32-bit (Oracle Client 64-bit version was already installed) and restarted the server I performed a TNSPING and it defaulted to the Oracle Client 32-bit installation path
    Thanks,
    Barry

    Hello,
    When you install a new client on a server, it will update the PATH variable, and add the ORACLE_HOME\bin path to it, at the first place. That explains why the tnsping use the last installed ORACLE_HOME.
    What you can do if you want only to change the default path to the tnsnames is to set the environment variable TNS_ADMIN to the path where the tnsnames you want to use is located. You can modify this variable in your application if you want to use another tnsnames.
    If you want switch from 32 bits to 64 bits client, then you have to modify the PATH variable.
    Hope this will help.
    Best regards,
    Sylvie
