Oracle 11gR2 on Oracle Linux 6 64 bit
Hi all,
I am a newbie on oracle so i posted this thread because i needed some help installing oracle 11gR2 on Oracle Linux using command line
This is for testing purposes.
I did all the prerequisites by oracle for the operating system.
I finished installing the database software from the setup ./runinstaller using x-terminal
I think i configured well the listener, because i can access the database using simple with pl/sql
The problem i have is with the dbconsole wich is accessed from the browser. I can't open it. from google chrome is says : This webpage is not available
Any help would be appreciated
Sorry for my english
It's not my native language
Be kind to check my site:
http://lajm-shqip.com/
Pl identify exact version of "11gR2"
Currently only 11.2.0.3 is certified to be installed on Linux 6 - http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E11882_01/relnotes.112/e23558/toc.htm#CHDFHIEA
If you are installing 11.2.0.1 or 11.2.0.2, you will need to use Linux 5.x
Has database control been configured ?

Hi,
I am trying to setup Oracle 11gR2 RAC on Linux 5.4 64-bit machine. I have used OCFS2 for creating shared disks. Encountered with the following error message while installing "Grid Infrastructure".
[INS-30014] Unable to check wether the location specified is on CFS
[INS-40103] The installer has detected that the software location specified is on an OCFS2 partition.
[IS-41312] One or more locations specified for Oracle cluster Regestry (OCR) cannot be used.
[INS-41514] One or more locations specified for placing voting disks cannot be used.
-- At the time of configuration i have created 2 share disks, 1) For Oracle software 2) For voting disk and OCR
Provided the same details at time of Clusterware installation.
Please hel me.
Thanks,Actually for both Oracle software and OCR i have used OCFS2. bcz earlier in Oracle 11g1 RAC i did the same and able to do smooth installation Well, you can no more do that with 11gR2 and it's clearly mentioned in 11gR2 Error messages documentation that configuration of grid Infrastructure software for a cluster is not supported on OCFS2 partition. You'll need to specify a location that is not an OCFS2 partition.
Search for the error INS-40103 message at http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/E11882_01/server.112/e10880/giinstaller_errormessages.htm

Enable hyperthreading for virtualized Oracle 11gR2 database (OEL57 64-bit)?
We are virtualizing our Oracle 11gR2 databases (running on OEL57 64-bit) on Vmware 5.1. I've read information at various locations that hyperthreading is not recommended for Oracle 11g database. One example is here, however, I seen many more:
http://bryangrenn.blogspot.com/2011/08/hyperthreading.html
My issue is that Vmware themselves recommends enabling hyperthreading for virtualized Oracle databases in their Oracle Databases on VMware Best Practices Guide.
Does anyone have any practical experience with this issue that can be shared? What are the advantages and disadvantages of enabling hyperthreading for our virtualized Oracle 11gR2 on OEL57 64-bit virtual machines
Thanks, Fred

If you read the comments on that blog you will see that the results are highly dependent on the type of CPU.
The effects can also be dependent on the nature of the workload: you may have CPUs that are fine with an OLTP workload, but don't scale as you might hope with a DW workload.

Can we install Oracle 11gR2 RAC on Linux using OCFS2 for both Oracle software and OCR.
Actually i am facing problems with Oracle software location which is on OCFS2
Please help meThough it would be technically feasible, oracle recommends against sharing oracle binaries for RAC.
You would be better off installing oracle binaries on a local mount on all nodes rather than a shared file system.

Oracle 11gR2 on Oracle Enterprise Linux 6
Hi,
I have recently reconfigured by old PC as a Linux box use OEL 6 and have installed Oracle 11gR2 database on it. I can access the database control via firefox on this PC. I also have a laptop running 64-bit Windows 7.
On this laptop I have installed putty, Oracle 11g Client, SQLDeveloper 3 and JDeveloper 11g. I have added an entry for my linux box to the hosts file in the c:\windows\system32\drives\etc directory.
I can connect to the linux box using putty and the hostname value from the hosts file, however when I try to create a database connection in SQLDeveloper or Jdeveloper using the hostname, port and service name for my database I get the following error:
"The Network Adapter could not establish the connection".
Also when I try to access the database control via Google Chrome on my laptop it times out.
Cheer,
Cameron.barney wrote:
Hey Ed,
I proceeded to add the entry to the /etc/hosts file on the server and deinstalled oracle. The hosts file now looks like :
127.0.0.1 localhost.localdomain localhost
::1 localhost6.localdomain6 localhost6
192.168.2.3 ol6-112.localdomain ol6-112
Once the deinstallation process completed I restarted the server added the following to the .bash_profile of the oracle user - "ORACLE_HOSTNAME=ol6-112.localdomain; export ORACLE_HOSTNAME" and then proceeded to run the oracle installer again reinstall oracle and create a database.
The listener is now using the new entry in the hosts file but I still can't connect to the database via SQL Developer or JDeveloper on my laptop.
And what - exactly - is the error message now?
The listener.ora file now looks like:
# listener.ora Network Configuration File: /u01/app/oracle/product/11.2.0/db_1/$
# Generated by Oracle configuration tools.

(DESCRIPTION_LIST =

Oracle 11gR2 RAC Vs Linux Version
Hi Guys
Please let me know whether i can start the Oracle 11gR2 RAC Grid installation in RHEL 6 or the higher version. Will i able to download the ASM libs for RHEL 6 n greater version. Thanks.Hi,
You can install 11.2.0.3 on RHEL 6 or OEL 6. Please note that asmlib rpms are no more available on RHEL 6 and hence will advise to go for OEL 6. For RHEL, you have to use udev rules.

Oracle 11gr2 in Oracle Enterprise Linux 64 bit
Hi,
I am installing Oracle 11G(11.2.0.1) in Oracle Enterprise Linux 64 bit(VM ware workstation). I have installed all the rpm's and prerequsites but when i run ./runInstaller and start the installation the GUI screen is very slow in response and screens are flickering. What could be the possible reason for this?

Oracle 11gR2 RAC on Linux - testing/practice/lab purpose
Hi Gurus,
Need your assistance & help here, I've 3 servers, equipped with almost everything, for this testing/sufficient enough; cpu, memory & hard disk.
I'm looking for some guidance/assistance or link, doc or anything, which I should follow to build this RAC and then Data Gurad environment too, successfully.
This is just for practice purpose, as last time did in 2009 and it's been quite some time, forgot a lot of stuff.
Please provide some best practices, guidelines and assistance too, enable to build it correctly and successfully too.
Thanks a lot in advance.
Best regards.Hi,

ORA-01843: not a valid month - Oracle 11gR2 vs Oracle 10gR2
Hi,
We have two database servers one running on 10g and another running on 11g. Application written in Java (We are using Top link to connect oracle).
Insert query on timestamp works fine on database 10g where as same query fail on 11g and raise error ORA-01843.
If query executed with sqlplus on database 11g it works fine. i

So there are three possibilities:
1) The NLS_TIMESTAMP_TZ_FORMAT session format (NLS_SESSION_PARAMETERS) in force during the INSERT is not really the one you listed.
2) The column CAMP.TSTAMP_CREATED is of type VARCHAR2 and not TIMESTAMP in the 10g database.
3) There is a bug in the JDBC driver you use with 10g that allows this strange conversion.
4) The SQL issued in the 10g database is really:
INSERT INTO CAMP (CAMP_PK, TSTAMP_CREATED) VALUES (1, TIMESTAMP '2010-02-22 06:07:18.008')-- Sergiusz -
Oracle 11gR2 certification for Oracle Linux 6
Hello,
According to Oracle documentation, database certification and support for Oracle 11gR2 under Oracle Linux starts with 11.2.0.3.
I was wondering if this might have anything to do with the i386 software prerequisites. Speaking of Oracle 11gR2 x86_64, the need for i386 libraries was removed with 11gR2 11.2.0.2. Or in other words, one can go straight to 11.2.0.2 without the need to install any 32-bit libraries.
Under Oracle Linux 5 x86_64, the "oracle-validated" package triggers the installation of several i386 packages. Under Oracle Linux 6 x86_64, the oracle-rdbms-server-11gr2-preinstall package uses x86_64 only. Under Oracle Linux 6, i386 changed to i686.
For what it's worth, I have installed Oracle 11gR2 database 11.2.0.1 under Oracle Linux 6.1 to 6.3, both x86_64, simply by using the oracle-rdbms-server-11gr2-preinstall package, and so far have not noticed any problems. Is there some information available, why 11.2.0.1 (x86_64) should not be used or is not certified for Oracle Linux 6 (x86_64)?
Thanks.I was afraid of that. Since the question is Oracle Linux 6 specific, I thought I'd try my luck here, thinking that if I get an answer, then probably here. Maybe it was not very realistic to get an answer anyway.
For what it's worth. Using "oracle-validated" under Oracle Linux 5, and "oracle-rdbms-server-11gR2-preinstall" under Oracle Linux 6, I was able to install Oracle 11gR2 11.2.0.1 just fine, both platforms x86_64 and 32-bit. I have not found any operational issues yet and it seems to run perfectly well.
The only trouble I had was with Grid Infrastructure 11.2.0.1, and here 11.2.0.3 is indeed required for it to install. I made a custom patch, just a few lines and after that 11.2.0.1, both x86_64 and 32-bit installed just fine and is fully operational.
I'm though I could post the patch. I guess it might make those people happy who do not have access to Oracle support and download 11.2.0.3. The patch will allow them to use the 11gR2 OTN version and install it under Oracle Linux 6. It won't be certified, but it is good enough for the purpose of education.
I'm closing the thread. -

it seem like the packages i have on my oracle linux 6 os is of higher version compared to what oracle 11gR2 database installer is asking for which is of lower version.
i can't seem to find/download those packages individually from any website.
I am trying to download the oracle linux 5 os iso with the hope i can find the lower version packages from the iso disc.
Appreciate if there is any help here. pointing to any website i can quickly download the packages cos trying to download the iso takes me more then 13 hour!.>>it seem like the packages i have on my oracle linux 6 os is of higher version compared to what oracle 11gR2 database installer is asking for which is of lower version.

You should find all rpms and their right version (as required by installer) onto linux 6 iso.
For some rpms the installer can like higher versions but not for all. For some rpms installer requires the exact version.

Hi Guys!
Thanks for your advises. I still working toward a resolution.
But I encountered another issue from Enterp Manager :
ERROR : Please correct the following error: Connection string must be specified.
My connection has this format:
//using connection string attributes to connect to Oracle Database
con.ConnectionString = "User Id=scott;Password=tiger;Data Source=oracle";
con.Open();
Console.WriteLine("Connected to Oracle" + con.ServerVersion);
Please tell me what is wrong here. Thanks. Dan.

Error installing Oracle 11gR2 on OEL 5.2
Hi,
I get an error where all the pre-requisite checks fail and get the error:
PRVF-7531 Physcial memory check cannot be perfomed on node "oradbsrv1"
I have 2GB of RAM and can't seem to find a solution to this problem on doing a google search..
Does anyone know what might be wrong ?
Thanks in advance. No i am not using any virtualization. Just a clean installation of Linux with Oracle 11gR2.
