Oracle 11gR2 on Windows 7 Questions

I am thinking about installing Oracle 11g R2 Express Edition on my 64bit Windows 7 laptop. I am wanting to use it to access an Oracle 10g database and develop SSRS 2008 reports against that database.
Here are my questions...
Will the 11g R2 connect to the 10g database?
Will SQL Developer work with the 11g R2 client while connected to a 10g database?
What SQL Developer version is the best to get for developing SSRS2008 reports on the 10g database in this scenario?
If I do the 11g R2 install and it doesn't work, does it uninstall cleanly? I don't want to have any issues with my laptop after the uninstall.
I would appreciate any advise offered.
Thanks!

Pl identify which version of Win 7 - you will require Professional or higher - http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E17781_01/install.112/e18803/toc.htm#BABGGAJA - Home version is not supported, although some have tried to install it on Home version and have been successful - that does not mean there will be no issues in using the software.
Pl also identify the exact version of "10g" - where is this datbase located ? You should be able to connect to the 10 database from XE.
What is "SSRS" ? I would suggest the latest version of SQL Developer. Why do you need a 11g XE install in the first place ? You should be able to connect to the 10g database directly using SQL Developer.
De-install instructions are here - http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E17781_01/install.112/e18803/toc.htm#CIHDDHJD - they work as advertised on supported OS versions.

  • Oracle 11GR2 on windows 2008 Geo-Dispersed cluster

    Hi all,
anyone can guide me about the installing oracle 11GR2 on windows 2008 Geo-dispersed cluster environment? Please guide and provide documentation if possible,
    thanks

By "geo-dispersed", do you mean a cluster with servers is physically remote locations ? If so, the install process does not care about how far apart the servers are physically. Follow the standard install doc at http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/E11882_01/install.112/e16773/toc.htm

  • Getting Problem installing Oracle 11gR2 on Windows 7 x64

    Hello everyone,
beforhand thank you for helping a rookie. :-)
I getting an error message that my installation path contains empty spaces. C:\Program Files\....
In previous Releases of Oracle you could cancel these error message. Not in 11gR2.
Does anyone know a solution to install Oracle 11gR2 Client in the Windows Program Files (x86) / Program Files folder?
I modified the *.rsp File line "Complete path of the Oracle Home" with double quotes like in the previous Versions.
tried the environment variable "%...%" and also the DOS writing style "PROGRA~2".
Oracle takes over the complete notation.
Iam Working on a Windows 7 64 Bit Machine with an english Kernel.
Have to install: Oracle Client 11gR2 64 bit
    Thank you in advance.
    Best regards

Was there ever any thoughts on this issue? I'm using Oracle 11G R1 and it lets me cancel past errors saying I can't install to c:\program files\oracle because it has spaces and the programs I use also work perfectly fine.
Now, we're using Win 7, thus want to use Oracle 11G R2 so it won't fail OS checks and why not use the newest, right? Well, as stated here, you cannot cancel past "space" error any longer. I was going to try %programfiles% but it appears that that won't work; LAME!
Also, the runtime install for R2 says it's going to be 200MB more than the runtime install for R1, why would that be the case? That's a LOT more!
    Thanks, Nick

  • Dataguard installation oracle 11gr2 on windows 2008 server

    Hi,
I have oracle 11gr2 database on windows 2008 server. I have been given a primary and secondary server with the same setup.
Now i want to install dataguard. AFter installing i need to test it for disaster recovery.
Can anyone please suggest me a document for this? I searched in this forum but i couldnt get any.
    Please help.

An obvious place to look at is our Online Documentation about Data Guard Installation:
    http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/E11882_01/server.112/e17022/toc.htm
    See
3 Creating a Physical Standby Database
    there.
There is not much special-Windows for Data Guard - of course you need to create Windows Services for both Databases etc. as described here:

Oracle Database for 32-bit Windows is supported on the following operating systems:
Windows Server 2008 - Standard, Enterprise, Datacenter, Web, and Foundation editions. The Server Core option is not supported.
    Ref : http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E11882_01/install.112/e24281/toc.htm#BGBEEBAD
regarding error : make sure you have set oracle sid and oracle home correctly, and services are started on services.msc
ORACLE_SID has no bearing on the listener. ORACLE_HOME does.

  • Oracle 11gR2 on Windows 2008 R2 - access denied error

I just installed 11gR2 on a Windows 2008 R2. When I tried to unsecure the dbconsole I noticed that an "Access is denied" error is returned, so I am not able to use the stop/start/unsecure command from emctl.
I am able to log in into the db and asm, but if I try to perform an imp/exp operation an create a log file from the operation I get an error EXP-00028: failed to open <log file name> for write.
I have already turned off the firewall, but the problem persists.
I know that Windows 2008 R2 has a lot of security enhancements that could cause issues, but I don't know what else I can turn off to deal with this situation.
BTW, I am logged with an account part of the Local Admins. and it belongs to the group ora_dba.
    Thanks,
    Alberto

This may be a little late but did you run the command line using the Run As Administrator option? Windows 2008 will return that error when trying to do certain privileged operations under regular user rights.

Sebastian : Thanks. I did come across this white paper & now I have converted they ASM disks to physical. When you say just direcly pass LUNs from storage, its still going to be a virtual block device off the RAW lun to OVS, is that what you meant? .. ie RAW disk to OVS --> use phy: directive to present and xvd"n" to vm (PV block driver)

    Hi,
1.) It is recommended to use physical disks for all ASM disks (also for OCR and Vote). If you use 11.2. then OCR/Vote are on ASM anyway.

2.) Just present RAW disks. Best is to directly pass the LUNs provided from the storage.

SebastianAvi : hdparam and dd tests do not say so. I have seen better performances with blktap driver. Even iostat run within ASM showed better response times. I serched on white paper and documents within metalink on blktap or file driver, but couldnt find any. (I did find some ex Oracle SE's journals recommending blktap driver for better performance). Are you referring to significant improvements in 3.0.2 ? because, in 2.2 the file: driver is poor performing.

I am now getting the error -01405 when I use the function and predicate PATH UNDER_PATH path_string use the parameter function. If instead you use a literal value everything works fine. I found that if I delete from the list select the same path expression works well. example:

    Hi,
First of all, you shouldn't be using XDB$RESOURCE directly but RESOURCE_VIEW or PATH_VIEW instead.
It doesn't solve the problem entirely but there's no error if we declare the function DETERMINISTIC.
However the PATH function returns NULL :
SQL> create or replace function fnc_test return varchar2
      2  deterministic
      3  is
      4  begin
      5   return '/public';
      6  end;
      7  /
    Function created
    SQL> select path(1), v.any_path
      2  from resource_view v
      3  where under_path(v.res, fnc_test(), 1) = 1
      4  ;
    PATH(1)               ANY_PATH
                          /public/dump
Could you post again in the {forum:id=34} forum?
    Thanks.
