Oracle 11i Implementation Expertise - Read This

Folks,
I am glad to have been able to help a few people with my last message - but I need to clarify something.
I am not a technical person, nor a recruiter. I just want to pass on information about a reputable company that has 11i expertise and with whom I had a good experience.
So, if you're looking for 11i expertise for your implementation or upgrade, send me an e-mail at [email protected] and I'll pass on their coordinates.
Jefrey

Hi Jefrey,

You probably have two Oracle homes now, one for Developer, one for 8i. I think the problem is that Developer doesn't support multiple Oracle homes. However if you add a TNS_ADMIN string value to your Oracle Developer registry hive pointing to the ORACLE_HOME/network/admin folder you might find Developer works.
This is just an idea, a colleague had loads of fun getting Developer and 8i to co-exist.

  • Accessing Oracle 11i  apps through Pocket PC

Normally for any windows client to connect to the Oracle Server we add a entry into the client host file i.e. windows\system32\drivers\etc\host . Once we add the entry we are able to access the Oracle Application.
From a Pocket PC 2002 how do I access the oracle 11i apps ?

Is this possible by enabling wireless server and accessing directly through jsp pages?

  • Size of 11i implementation teams?

Hey folks. I'm trying to gather some info on the average size of an Oracle 11i implementation team. I know it depends a lot on the apps being implemented, but if you could respond to this post with breakouts of how many functional/technical/DBA's your team has that would be helpful.

  • Does Oracle's implementation of JSF have this published bug?

re: jsf with filter crashes when link to static html link is clicked.
I also posted this on Sun's JSF forum and got a reply that said it sounded like this bug:
    https://javaserverfaces.dev.java.net/issues/show_bug.cgi?id=146
Does Oracle know whether or not this bug is in their implementation of JSF?
    Regards,
    Al Malin

    Steve,
I have determined that, with the JDev supplied JSF libs, a jsf with filter crashes when an invalid static html link is clicked.
Replacing jsf-api.jar and jsf-impl.jar with the ones from JSF 1.1_02, my app did not crash. Instead it correctly displayed a 404 Not Found page.
After restoring the jars and correcting the static link paths in the jsp, the links worked properly.
What a way to discover a coding error!

Thanks to previous responder for tip regarding JDK/JRE anchor strings. I'm not sure if that is a problem. After letting the install process (java.exe) run for over an hour, I finally got past the InstantiateFile step. It looks like the process just takes a long time with no visible progress sometimes. After 5-6 hrs, it looked like the install succeeded (for the most part). There were still some errors in the error logs related to the Concurrent Manager (TNS-12541: TNS:no listener) I believe. If anyone has insight on what this error msg means, I would greatly appreciate a reply.
The other problem I am tackling right now is how to explicitly set the Forms processing mode to HTTP rather than the default socket mode. According to the 11i docs (and Forms Developer 6i docs), you should only have to set "connectMode=HTTP" in the config file, appsweb.cfg, to make this happen. However, when I try bringing up a client form, the form hangs. So, obviously, something is amiss. A related question is whether one can run Forms in only HTTP mode and not HTTPS (and thus avoid having to install SSL). I would greatly appreciate any insight from fellow users.

  • Re: Oracle 11i financials impelementation

    Gurus,
I am new to Oracle apps. And I finished my course in August'07. Now, I am going to do implementation in Oracle 11i financials (functional). So, help me in this regard by sending related documents, if any, available in implementation methodology..
    thanks,
    regards,
    Kathir

    Hi
    Few tips.
First of all understand, all the user guides and Implementation guides will help you only in understanding the functionality it can offer and not specific to each and every Business requirement. So first of all try to understand your clients Business and discuss with Known Oracle Financial Implementation guys on How do we map the business processes to Oracle Financials with refernce to your client Business.
Reading 1180 pages of User Guides and Implementation guides will never guide you to meet client requirement. Those can be used only for specific situation whether the functionality exist or not
Try to gain knowledge and experience by simulating several business scenarios and learn from experts in the field to gain better understanding.
    Hope this helps
    Regards
    Sivakumar

  • How to find out Oracle 11i Standard Objects

    Hi Gurus,
There is a requirement from my client. My client is on 11i Oracle Applications. He has many customization. But somehow he failed to use naming convention and all during implementation. Now he wants us to write a program which can tell us how many custom database objects are created as a part of implementation.
Hence in order to know this, first I need to find out what are the standard objects provided by Oracle for its 11i application so that I can write a program which will take difference (custom DB objects - standard Oracle 11i Object)
It will be great assistance if you let me know how to find out standard objects provided by Oracle for its 11i application?
    Looking forward to your reply.
    Thanks.
    -Sunil

Moved to the EBS General Discussions forum
There is no easy or programmatic way to determine the custom objects. All custom objects need to be documented and need to follow the recommended XX naming convention. If that has not been done, then someone will have to manually input each object name that is possibly custom at https://etrm.oracle.com which documents all seeded objects - if no match is found, it is most likely a custom object.

  • Oracle RAC implementation scenario

    Hello DB Experts,
I have got a very specific business scenario to be implemented.
Basically we need to implement 2 Node RAC infrastructure.
But in this on each node we have 2 oracle instances running.
Now is it possible to have one Instance running on Active / Active mode and another instance in Active / Passive mode.
First of all i want to know it is possible to implement RAC in this manner.
If yes, then for Active / Passive instance if Active instance goes down how to switch the traffic to the passive node? Or basically i want to know how do i make that passive node active?
Would really appreciate some quick response.
    Thanks,
    Darshan

Lets assume some better names for this discussion...
RAC Database MYDB (instance on node1 = MYDB1, instance on node2=MYDB2)
SI Database URDB (instance on node1 = URDB with active/passive on node2)
Can this be done? Yes. But why? You can use SERVICES to limit on which node your application is accessing.

your problem is not very unusual... I also faced the similar situation cpl of times when Oracle was not able to continue the installation coz the Immediate Shutdown was failed. Actually During the installation, Oracle mounts/opens the database and shuts it down many times and few times, Oracle is unable to shutdown cleanly as some process is hanging or not responding.
Piece of advise is that always use staging area to install Apps as it takes long time on Win2K (anything between 4-12 hrs) to install it and CDROM Access is lot slower than HDD. Also, it will prompt u every time to insert tbe CD. All this hassle can be bypassed by using the staging area. Read the Installation help document on how to create it.
For failure reasons, look in ur installation log file which is created in the default Temp folder usually C:\documents and settings\USERNAME\local settings\temp for WinXP or C:\winnt\documents and settings\USERNAME\local settings\temp for Win2K.
post or email me at [email protected] or [email protected] for further help/details.
