Oracle 32 bit to 64 bit

accidentally I installed oracle 10g windows 32 bit.
but it should be oracle 10g windows 64 bit.
Is it possible to change it? without installing new database and export/import....

I am considering a 32 bit -> 64 bit transition on 11G Windows.
I checked the 11G documentation and saw the following:
If you are installing 64-bit Oracle Database 11g Release 1 (11.1) software but were previously using a 32-bit Oracle Database installation, then the database is automatically converted to 64-bit during a patch release or major release upgrade to Oracle Database 11g Release 1 (11.1).
You must increase initialization parameters affecting the system global area, such as sga_target and shared_pool_size, to support 64-bit operation.
Does this mean that all that is needed is a shutdown, change oracle home, copy init/spfile, and startup? At least in 11G... Did I read that correctly?

I am using a xeon 4 CPU machine with Windows 2003 (64 bit). I just downloaded Oracle 9.2 (64 bit) and found that it needs Itanium processor. Is this an absolute requirement? Can I still run it on xeon? What are the problems?

I'm getting the error "Unknown Database Connector Error" when I run report on the server and it works OK on crystal designer 2013.
Been reading this thread 32&64 bit Oracle Client but not much help there.
Here are the details

Crystal Server 2013 SP5
Crystal Server has been installed and appears to work fine. I was able to develop a brand new report locally and saved it to the server and it displays ok. Of course when I click on refresh on the report, it will error out due to database connection it looks like.
We have installed both oracle client drivers 64 and 32. 64 was installed first and then 32.The path has been modified so that the 32 shows up first.
I even ensure oracle_home and oracle_home32 are specified and restarted the server. I still get the same error.
The tns entries are also located in both installs of oracle client...
What might be the issue?

We are currently not using an ODBC connection.
We installed Crystal 2013 Server SP05. This is the sole package installed (believe it's the latest version) without any extra patch package installed (believe no patch needed as it's the latest version).

64-bit vs 32-bit Oracle on Win2003

Background:
Ive been tasked to come up with the appropriate hardware/software solution for my company, an MMOLG (Massively Multiple On-Line Gaming) enterprise as it gets ramped up for two huge game releases. We use My SQL (4.x) for managing the Web Front-end, MS SQL 2000 Servers to manage the games, and Oracle to manage the billing application on the back-end. The billing application is also used for authentication (registration of new subscribers, credit card validations) and authorization (what games each subscriber can play, is their account up to date, etc.). We currently support our billing application using 32-bit Oracle (9.2.0.4) on 32-bit, clustered Win2k, using Failsafe (3.3.2) on MSCS (1.0). We have the first new game-to-be-released in Beta, and, to date, I have a similar setup except that the Oracle is 9.2.0.6, Failsafe is 3.3.3, and MSCS is 1.1. Originally, I was given to understand that each of the two new games were to be on separate Oracle instances, but now my management wants both games to be run from the same instance. Our Marketing team spit out the anticipated subscriber/subscription #s recently, and the size of the #s has given me pause I question whether or not our current system will be able to handle the # of logins (for authorization and authentication) during the so-called land-rush (the games 1st week/month of release) and that period of time immediately following an upgrade to the game (where huge #s of gamers rush to get back to playing). I also need to consider the peak # of logins during the heaviest play period times. The minimum # of gamer logins/hour I need to account for is 5-7k/hour, and the high end could be upwards of 30-45k/hour (for both games, post-upgrade case). To me, that number of logins/hour is asking a lot Windows 32-bit, perhaps the impossible.
What Ive done to date:
First I made sure that I understood what I can do with Windows, and then implemented a base test on the Beta environment by setting up Windows for VLM management. I have both the /PAE and /3GB switches enabled (I have 8GB of RAM, so the /3GB switch gets me the extra 1GB memory for shared_pool w/o being the hindrance it would be if I was using 16GB+), and I have the AWE tailored to 768MB (the minimum that, via trial and error, that I could bring Oracle up under). This has allowed me to have a shared_pool of 320MB, a java_pool and large_pool of 152MB (more on the large_pool later). To date, Ive sized the buffer_cache at 5000MB (just to prove that I could do it, and see the results). So SGA is 5362MB. Ive set the Aggregate PGA Target to 256MB.
Ive looked at 64-bit Oracle on 64-bit Win2003. 64-bit Oracle 9.2.0.7 is certified on Win2003 (Itanium only, no certification yet for the really spiffy EM64T chip set). If dedicated will not cut it for the max login load, I could consider Shared mode, knowing that I get some performance hit. Going to 64-bit Theres some test data out there (Larry Pedigo, of Performance Tuning Corp. had a nice white paper), but Ive found little else. This seems, at first blush, the best choice for a Windows shop, but who knows? Ive come across one gotcha to date, the Failsafe Manager is only 32-bit (while Failsafe is 64-bit, why Oracle did that, I do not know), so has to be installed on a separate home, on a separate 32-bit Windows machine. Ive gotten it from Oracle Support that 32-bit Oracle Client will connect w/o issue to the 64-bit Oracle server, so having the various 32-bit applications used (on separate 32-bit Win2k machines) connect to the database is not a problem.
Ive looked at putting 32-bit Oracle on a 64-bit Win2003, so if the initial load/stress tests fails (at 5-7k logins/hour) I could easily migrate Oracle to the 64-bit. From what Ive read, I would expect the 32-bit Oracle to be way too slow.
Ive looked at going to RAC as it would buy me twice the memory for the pools.
Im just starting to look at moving to Oracle on UNIX. I have yet to estimate the total cost for doing so (early guess-timate is $750k), and Id have to bring a Unix Sys Admin on-board. Up to now, Turbine has been 90% Windows, 10% Linux.
Questions for the group:
Has anyone out there had this problem to tackle?
Am I correct in thinking that Windows 32-bit would be swamped by the anticipated load?
Is anyone running 64-bit Oracle on 64-bit Win2003? If so, did you get what you expected with respect to performance? Any obstacles that you had to overcome?
Has anyone suggestions as to configuration/environment that would help me?
Any responses would be a God-send to this poor, beleaguered DBA. Thanks very much (in advance).

Wow, you have a big task at hand, and it looks very fun to build.
I say you should consider 10g r2, as it will soon (or maybe already released) run on the AMD Opteron and the EM64T now that windows 2003 is set up for these processors.
If you are not ready to go 10g, then I would seriously consider RAC for the 9i database.
and I wouldn't install 32 bit on 64bit machine. Its not supported and would give you less than desirable results

64 bit or 32 bit installation of oracle 9i - which one?

hi there - i have a sun solaris ultra 60 with 2gb ram and 32gb hdd and solaris 9-64bit on it. should i install oracle 9i 32 bit or 64 bit? Also after trying to install the 32 bit server version of Oracle 9i on the same machine we noticed a severe decrease in speed on the server but uptime doesnt show any processes taking over the machine. Any ideas? has it got anything to do with 32 bit 64 bit installation distributions for either oracle or solaris??

If you have an instance running on it, you can query the v$version view. This will give your the 32/64 bit info.

After i installed, oracle 9i client (32 bit) in Windows 2003 SP2 (64 bit), i managed to install and configure tnsnames and connects using SQL Plus. However, i CANNOT see Oracle in ODBC.
Que 1 : Why? Why i cannot see any Oracle in ODBC? Is it because of 64 bit?
Que 2: If i installed Oracle 9i client (64 bit), will it solve the problem?
Que 3: Will my .Net software gives problem when application installed in IIS interacts with DB server???

how can i install just the libraries from OUI Database 11.2
Is it must to install these libraries first, whatif I install Oracle11.2 64bit client, and then install the OBIEE. Anyhow i need to install OracleDBClient to connect to Oracle server 11.2.

You can't "just install the libraries", you need a full ORacle client installation. The Oracle client can be installed after OBIEE but you must have an Oracle client to connect to an Oracle database via OCI (which is the recomended approach). 64bit client should be fine as long as it has the 32bits libraries. The 10g client does, not sure about the 11g client. Make sure you install the FULL Oracle client, not the Instant Client. The 32bits client libraries are located under lib32, the lib directory is for the 64bits ones. You might need ot re-link them if they were linked correctly during the client installation. But for more information post a message in the Oracle client forum, this is the OBIEE forum.

Just use separate base directories e.g.
c:\32bit\oracle and
c:\64bit\oracle
Install the 32-bit client first, then the 64-bit client. The order should not matter.

As already stated in one of your other threads, it is not a certified combination. Again, read the Installation Guide !
If you want to play with it and try to make it "work", that's up to you. And as you say you have already tried, with "no success", it seems you already got an answer.
I suggest you close this thread and continue in the dedicated 10g XE forum thread (or try the 11g XE Beta - only for 32-bit Windows yet, but there's a chance the general release will be aimed for Windows x64 as well).

I think SAP Note 940811 is not relevant to your case as far as I understand your case in your previous thread because you are already on oracle 10.2 and there is no upgrade required.
Please check SAP note 192822 and please check below extract from this note:
      5. Can I switch to 64-bit, even though I already run the same oracle release on 32-bit?
      Yes. The only thing that needs to be done is
run del_ora.csh to delete the 32-bit software
install the 64-bit software
start the database.
As the wordsize changes with 64-bit, all pl-sql-predures should be recompiled.
      Therefore please run the following two scipts on db-level:
      @$ORACLE_HOME/rdbms/admin/utlip.sql -invalidates all plsql-procedures
      @$ORACLE_HOME/rdbms/admin/utlrp.sql -recreates the plsql-procedures with the new word size

I have two question for migration 32 bit to 64 (x86_64) bits on Oracle 9.2.0.5 for SAP 4.7 Enterprise?
1.- When i migrated 32 bits to 64 (x86_64) bits is necesary migrated to Oracle 10 ?
In the note SAP Note 960769 - Windows: Migration from 32-bit to 64-bit (x86_64), say that, pag 4:

But, in the pam matrix say that support for 9.2.
I confused for the information.
2.- In the case that is not necessary to migrate to oracle 10, i can execute the migration to 64 bits the SAP 4.7 with the procedure Backup/Restore?
I don´t have the new server, the server for the migration is the same. The procedure you want to follow is:
1.- Backup Offline all server.
2.- Delete the server, i install the server on Windows 2003 64 bits.
3.- Install SAP 4.7 on kernel 64 bits.
4.- Restore de backup offline (only data): datafiles, archive log, redo log.

According to Note:814834
#Note that there is currently no 64-bit support for the x86_64 platform
for Oracle 9.2 because Oracle does not provide a 64-bit DB client for this purpose,
and, in addition, 64-bit operation of the DB server is not supported.
This means that this DB version can only be used in conjunction with SAP components on
Windows 32-bit on x86_64 hardware in 32-bit mode.
For more information, refer to the "Oracle" section in the note.
Furthermore, it states 32bit SAP instance can connect ot a 32 bit Oracle 9.2 or 10.2 database instance.
So for your case, its better to upgrade your current database to Oracle 10.2 and then proceed with migration.

How to convert 64-bit to 32-bit oracle 8.1.7

We are planning to upgrade our O/S version from AIX 4.3.3 to 5.2
The limitation is that AIX 5.2 and 8.1.7.4 64-bit are not certified. We are also running Oracle Financials 11.0.3 so we cannot upgrade to 9.2.X versions.
Can anybody tell me how to convert Oracle 8.1.7 64-bit to 32-bit? ( before upgrading to AIX 5.2)

Javed, I suggest you open an iTAR with Oracle support. For one thing I believe you will need a different binary. You may already have the install CD since I believe we received both and choose 64 bit.

We had Oracle 11.1.0.7.0 32-bit EE on Windows 2003 32-bit EE and now migrated to 64-bit (both OS and DB) and everything worked brilliantly ok except...
Problem:
We used to be able to connect to an external application (Postcode Plus from AFD) via extproc to search postcodes / addresses etc. However, after the migration getting the error:
ORA-06520: PL/SQL: Error loading external library
ORA-06522: Unable to load DLL

2. When searched got a quite of lot link about extproc32 (for all versions of UNIX), but not for Windows and found this link Extproc32 installation Does that mean it is not possible to load 32-bit DLL on 64-bit Windows installation?
3. Is there any workarounds? Or am I stumped so I should now go back and reinstate the 32-bit installation?
