When I periodically accessed your Plugin Check and Updates web page in the past, I really appreciated you connecting me to the correct Plugin Updates vendor web page when I clicked on your red Update Now button. This time, however, your Java Applet Plug-in "Update Now" button linked me to the Oracle Java "7u65 Updates Release Notes" instead of the usual download page. It seems rather unexpected for me, or any other conscientious user for that matter, to search the appropriate "JDK 7U65" file download from the Oracle website.

This is getting way too complicated for normal peop.
First: the "Update Plugin" does not work, it goes to a page with all sort of computer jargon but no "Update button" anywhere.
Second: this forum jscher2000 gives a good solution, but I downloaded the incorrect java update, because my computer is 64 bit. how am I supposed to know my browser is what it refers to and that FF is 32 bit.....???$%^&*()??
Third: some of those "critical update" software are not even on my computer....well at least I don't think it is, I search for "shockwave" and did not find it.
I love Moz FF but the updating is starting to get out of control. why give us (computer idiot) an auto recommendation update not tailored to our computer? Perhaps in big letters at the top there should be an explanation "this is general suggestion these plugin needs updating, not to tailored with your computer, do your own research"
and/or add info I need to know like the 32 bit thing, took me forever to download the 64bit update for JAVA and it was the wrong one.
Now I am just afraid to update anything for FF because it is too darn confusing.

File is around 1.51 GB, try using a download program.
And download both the files, you are probably trying to unzip only by downloading win32_11gR2_database_1of2.zip. You should also download win32_11gR2_database_2of2.zip under the same directory and then try to unzip using winrar or winzip.
This should work.

Oracle download bug

i downloaded oracle 9i from the oracle site. the filename is A91514-01.zip.
when i tried to extract it through winzip it is giving error.
the error is , it is not able to extract the file "help.jar" due to internal errors.i want somebody to solve my proble.

How to install Essbase on your laptop from the Oracle Download site

Hello everyone,
I am attempting to install the download version of Essbase on my laptop from the Oracle site. I have downloaded the following Essbase-11113 part 1, Essbase-11113 part 2, and APS-11113 part 3. However I am at a loss as to what to do next. I didn't see any executible files in the downloads all I see are xml documents and .dat files so I am completely lost as to how to install the system and get a working copy of Essbase running. Any assistance will be greatly appreciated.

I too have it installed on a VM -- Windows 2003 -- and it's a 32 bit OS. If you do want to move it to your real desktop, you'll need a bunch of directories and environment variables from your successful 32 bit install to make it work, even for the client. I think XP should be okay for just Essbase and maybe EAS. You can always install Excel on the VM as well and just keep it entirely self-contained.
SmartView on 64 bit, if you're using Excel 2007, is a non starter; it does work with Excel 2003 and I think it's slated for a fix in 11.1.2.
If you're as hopeless as I am when it comes to installations, make sure you take plenty of snapshots so you can roll back to the last working instance. I did the whole stack on my VM, so I had lots of things to get wrong.
I think those who know what they're doing when it comes to installs don't see it as a challenge -- I'm a developer, not an installer, so I found it it be be gruesome (the full stack, 64 bit Essbase on the real iron).

P.S. Just to show that when it's all certified, it works, I was able to install AppliedOLAP's client (okay, Tim was watching over my shoulder, but still) on my Vista 64 bit without any trouble whatsoever. It worked like a charm.

Oracle Download

Is the download available on the website for 9i Personal Edition a full functioning copy? I need to review an Oracle database for a client and need to be able to access it for a day or tw oand was wondering if the download would allow this without a full license purchase.

The download is a fully functional copy. The download license agreement allows you to use the software for development purposes only. It's not clear to me whether what you're doing qualifies as development, though. You'd have to ask your resident lawyer about that.

Oracle Download Limitations

I have looked through the various Oracle documentation on Oracle 8i Standard/Enterprise and 8i Personal Edition, and also 9i of each. I can not find the limitations for each.
If you download the versions from the internet, what are the limitations. I would like to do some test for my company before purchasing Oracle and would like to know what we can expect.

I have only used the downloads for development and testing purposes (2 or 3 users max) but I don't think there is a limit.
Keep in mind that if you are planning to role it out to a large number of users (i.e., a production environment) you need to buy the licenses. If you want support, you have to register.

Oracle download error

Need some help. I downloaded Oracle 10G application server zip file
as_windows_x86_101202_disk1.zip
I get the following error when I try to unzip the file.
Cannot open file: it does not appear to be a valid archive
if you downloaded this file, try downloading the file again.
Any suggestion would be appreciated.

I tried downloading the cluster for windows and the file is 0 bytes. I tried many times and it doesn't work. Neither does the 64 bit version.

OracleAS download and issue with CPIO

I have downloaded the files for Solaris. When I go to un cpio:
$> cat 10g_Disk1.cpio | cpio -icd
get error at this point
$> Disk2/stage/Components/oracle.portaltogo.server/9.0.4.0.0/1/DataFiles/audio.1.1.jar
$> cpio: Bad magic number/header.
$> 1 errors

what is the cpio verion needed? (what version used by oracle to create files)
how do we tell what version our OS is at?

when I do the check sum I get: ( which does not match the cksum supplied at download site)
$> cksum 10g_Disk1.cpio
136152944 555125713 10g_Disk1.cpio
we are downloading via web and then ftp over to unix server this is the incorrect cksum number -- caused by NOT ftp'ing binary?

Oracle downloads 9i and 10g

Hello
I'm trying to download the oracle db provided in gz format, but every time I try to unpack it it says after a minute something like "unexpected end of file....." I tried stuffit and some other archivers, tried in a shell with gunzip, but every times it does not unpack. Down;oaded it several times again but every time the same result.
Woth other gz formats I don't have this problem.

Hi, I believe your problem is already solved. But seems no one put the solutions here.
I just encounter the same problem. I found out the problem is when I ftp the downloaded file, it's set to text mode. I changed it to binary mode and then the problem is solved.

Preferred Oracle download for Oracle certification lab.

My objective is to earn Oracle database administrator certification(s), Associate, Professional, Master. I own a new SUN SPARC workstation. I want to install Oracle on my SUN workstation. I will use the Oracle installation for hands on learning. From the Oracle web site, product editions section, the available editions are; Personal, Standard, and Enterprise. On the Oracle software download section I found Oracle9i Database, Oracle9i Lite, and Oracle9i Personal, in addition to other downloads. Of all the available products which download is the product of choice for building my Oracle lab.

Server timeout with Personal Oracle download

So that we may better diagnose DOWNLOAD problems, please provide the following information.
- Server name
- Filename
All 3 of the Personal Oracle "Disk" zips.
- Date/Time
GMT+1 22:00
GMT+1 07:00

Basically any time.
- Browser + Version
Have tried all 3:
Internet explorer 6.0
Opera 6.0
Netscale 6.2.1
- O/S + Version
W2K
- Error Msg
IE: Connection times out.
Opera/Netscape: Simply hangs

Download times out after 3 hours or so when using a 256k ADSL line (23KB/sec). Can I get the same download via FTP? Or in smaller chunks?

The OCI drivers require a client-side DLL in order to work. I believe it also needs some of SQL*Net. The client-side DLL is available with the Oracle Client software distribution.
You need to install the Oracle Client software that matches the version of the JDBC drivers you are using on the machine where you are trying to make the connection (the client).
If you are using the ORacle 8.1.5 JDBC drivers, you need the ORacle 8.1.5 Client software (regardless of what version of the database you are connecting to). Check the Paths tab in your project properties to see what version of the drivers you are using. By default it is 8.1.5 with JDev 2 and 3.0.
If you want to use a different version of the JDBC drivers, make sure to see the online help for switching driver versions.

Oracle Download Broken ?

Hi,
I am having difficulty downloading Oracle 9i Personal Ed for NT/XP/2000.
Download always completes, but file 92010NT_Disk1.zip and 92010NT_Disk2.zip refuse to open as though they are corrupt. I don't have any problems with the 92010NT_Disk3.zip file though - that opens fine. I have tried this several times on several different machines. What's happening ?

Thanks,Well this is not an Oracle database question, why not just visit the website and download the software?
The command will not work because you need to be connected with a valid OTN user / password and accept the terms and conditions.
You can try to post user/password first and save cookies, then try to use wget with -O option
