Oracle 8.0.5 on Windows 2003

Hello,
i've to migrate a oracle 8.0.5 (sap) from NT to 9.2 Windows 2003.
Unfortunatly my first step have to be a copy of this database to Windows 2003 Server. After that i can do the following steps.
So is it possible tu run a 8.0.5 database on Windows 2003 and do the migration in a second step ?
Thanks
David

i've to migrate a oracle 8.0.5 (sap) from NT to9.2 Windows 2003.
You have an SAP database. SAP only "support" upgrades
to 9.2 from 8.1.7
I think you should better follow the SAP homogeneus
system copy procedure using R3load.
The first database releqsed by oracle for Windows
2003 is 9.2.
You should perform the upgrade before or follow the
sap indications for this cases.Yeah, thats the prob. SAP only support R3Load with 8.0.6 not wiht 8.0.5, so i 've to update the database first. Unfortunatly my customer coudn't give me a garantee for a correct backup of the producitv datavase, so i will not update any productiv database without a secure backup.
Ok, i think, that i've to install the ole shit on a Windows NT and do the migration steps on Nt and then i've copy migrated datebase to Windows 2003. Thats not nice, it's not a miracle, it's oracle :-)
LL&P and thanks for your help guys.

  • Migration from Oracle 9i 32 bit to Oracle 10G 64 bit on Windows 2003 Server

I am working on migrating Oracle 9i 32 bit to Oracle 10G 64 bit on Windows 2003 from Old server to new server. We have db around 500 GB and 3 schemas. I installed Oracle 10G on new server, created tablespaces, schema's blah blah and now doing export and import at schema level from old server to new server.
Import is taking more than 4 to 5 hours on new server. My manager is saying, window time is bit longer and he wants me to try possiblities to make this process faster. Can some one help me on this, to use the best possible method to complete this process faster?
Will below step work, if I try?
If I install, oracle 9i and 10g both on new server in different home directories and take the hot backup from old machine and restore on new machine in 9i home directory and use the upgrade configuration assistant from 10g and do the upgrade? Pls advice.
    Thanks in advance,

    It looks good.
I have one question in below steps:
To migrate an Oracle9i or older database to an Oracle Database 10g Release 1 (10.1) database for 64-bit Windows:
    1 Perform steps 1 - 11 in "Migrating an Oracle Database 10g Release 1 (10.1) Database".
2 Shut down the database on the 64-bit computer:
    SQL> SHUTDOWN IMMEDIATE;
    3 Start the database migration:
    SQL> STARTUP MIGRATE;
4 Migrate the database as described in Chapter 3, "Upgrading a Database to the New Oracle Database 10g Release" in Oracle Database Upgrade Guide.
In step 4, it says, migrate database as described in chapter 3. In chapter 3, it says, to do the upgrade the process using dbca or manually. Pls confirm whether do the upgrade process after issuing startup migrate or not.
    Thanks in advance.

  • Whether Oracle 8.1.6 Supports Windows 2003 Server/Windows 2000 Adv. Server

    Dear All,
Whether Oracle 8.1.6 Supports Windows 2003 Server/Windows 2000 Adv. Server.
I tried it in windows 2003 server but i couldn't. Atlease tell me wheather it support windows 2000 adv. server. This is my first dba job.
Under Doc ID: 66397.1 saying Oracle 8.1.6 Not Support Windows NT Server 4.0 Terminal Server Edition.
Under Doc ID: 77627.1 saying Oracle 8.1.6 Supports Windows 2000 Support.
    Please help me out urgently.

Since you have access to Metalink, you could be looking at the Certify tab to find this information. But, the answer is that 8.1.6 is no longer supported by Oracle. However, you should be able to install it on Win 2000 advanced server. You just can't get any support for it.
The earliest version of db supported on Win 2003 was either 9.0 or 9.2, but 9.0 is desupported now as well.

  • Oracle 8.1.7 on Windows 2003

I'm trying to install Oracle 8.1.7 on Windows 2003 Server and it's hanging at the place, where installation tries to configure Net8 services. When I try to stop the process and try to create database - it gives error message as "TNS:protocol adapter error".
Please guide me on the above problem.
    Jay

8.1.7 is not supported on Win 2003. You need 9.2, and be sure to download the version that says it is for Win 2003. Also be sure it's for the correct version of Win 2003- 32 bit or 64 bit.

  • Where can I get Oracle database server 9i for windows 2003

    Hi,
I need Oracle Database Server 9i for Windows 2003. From Oracle online download, there is one a patch set available. Where can I get the full version?
    Thanks
    Laura

Hi, I found the solution. There is no software to direcly install Oracle 9i on Windows 2003. I need to install the software for NT/2000 first, the patch it.
That's why there is only patchset for 2003 for downloading. See the doc below:
three installation components required to install
Oracle9i Database release 2 (9.2.0.3.0) on Windows Server 2003. These three
installation components must be installed in the order listed. If you are
migrating a pre-existing Oracle9i database to Windows Server 2003, first
upgrade the database to the Oracle9i Database release 2 (9.2.0.3.0) patch set
    before upgrading the operating system.
    Obtain the following installation components:
    Oracle9i Database Release 2 (9.2.0.1.0) for Windows
Oracle Universal Installer release 2.2.0.18.0 for Windows
Oracle9i Database Release 2 (9.2.0.3.0) Patch Set for Windows

  • Oracle 10G slow Performance on Windows 2003 Server

    Hi there,
Looking for a little assistance in locating a bottleneck that's started to hit our system this week. It's really odd because it's been starting around 10am every morning this week.
today is the worst that I've seen it because it's almost brought the system to a halt.....
    We're running Oracle 10.2.0.1 64b on Windows 2003 Server 64
The server has 16 processors and 64GB of RAM currently the CPU is sitting at 5% and the RAM usage is at 16.4GB
It's a blade server with a SAN backend and I'm assuming the latency is coming from the disk but I need to determine this for a fact.
I've only been a DBA for about a year and I'm stilling learing how to locate and identify issues. According to OEM I'm seeing
a ton of I/O from the users. So anyways, any help or insight would be much appreciated and a learning experience for me.
Thank you for your time and asistance.
    SB

    Thank you for the reply!
We've had finding one FOREVER, I can't resolve it and I've read somewhere to ignore because OEM is false reporting. I'm adjusting DB_Cache now...
Isn't possible that too much cache could be bad for the system and cause slow downs?

  • Oracle 9i 32 bit ON Windows 2003 server 32 bit

    Hi all
I have oracle 9i 32 bit istalled on HP server with windows 2003 server 32 bit, 8GB ram.
I am trying to increase oracle memory size (SGA + PGA),
but when I exceed 2GB for (SGA + PGA) it gives me error (ORA-27102 : out of memory)
Is it because the windows 32bit ?
    How to manage this issue?

The maximum amount of memory that can be allocated on a Windows Server 2003 is 4 Gb.
If you have Windows Server 2003 Enterprise Edition, it supports 32 GB of physical RAM and Windows Server 2003 Datacenter Edition supports 64 Gb by means of the Physical Address Extensions (PAE) feature.
You should declare the 3 Gb switch that is in the Boot.ini file with Microsoft Windows Server 2003 so it addresses more than 2Gb. So verify which windows 2003 server edition are you currently using.

  • The old allowing oracle 3GB virtual memory on windows 2003 server question?

    Hi all,
    I have a 9.2.0.7.0 database on windows 2003 server (32bit). 4 dual core cpu's and 16GB of Ram.
    I have set .use_indirect_data_buffers=TRUE and *._enable_NUMA_optimization=FALSE.
The db_block_buffers is set at 4GB.
    Shared_pool 200MB
    Large_pool 56MB
    Java pool 56MB
    PGA is currently at 400MB
AWE_WINDOW_MEMORY is set at 720MB (which is the lowest I can set it)
At the moment there are various jobs running on the database and no users logged on and the virtual memory is at 1.8GB.
The problem is as soon as the users logs onto the DB the virtual memory goes over 2GB and we see the error 'ORA-04030: out of process memory when trying to allocate 2416 bytes'.
Now I have edited the boot.ini with the following parameters:
    multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINNT="UBS WSP - Wintel Server Platform with PAE" /fastdetect /PAE /4GT
because the /3GB parameter switch started the server with lots of errors.
The oracle.exe process still seems unable to go over the 2GB limit with getting 'ORA-04030' errors.
Can someone tell me if I have missed anything? Or a reason why oracle is not using the switch?
    TIA
    Eddy

    Satish,
see metalink Note:1036312.6 : Utilizing Up to 3GB Virtual Memory on Windows.
    it says :
"The 32-bit versions of the Windows® 2000 Advanced Server and Windows NT Server 4.0, Enterprise Edition, operating systems were the first versions of Windows to provide applications with a 3-GB flat virtual address space, with the kernel and executive components using only 1 GB. In response to customer requests, Microsoft has expanded the availability of this support to the 32-bit version of Windows XP Professional and all 32-bit versions of Windows Server™ 2003."
of course, we mustn't be mistaken with the AWE switch (/PAE) that is not available for standard edition.

  • Installin Oracle 10g rel 2 on windows 2003 server

    Hi
I am trying to install oracle10g on windows 2003 server standard edition SP1. When i run the OUI i get the following error.
OUI-10133:Invalid staging area. There are no top
level components for Windows Nt or Windows 2000 area. And i am not able to install.
    Can somebody help in this.
    Thanks

This is a problem with the media.
I suggest copying all the files to a local hard disk and running the installer from there. I don't have good luck installing from CD with Oracle's databases - not sure why. I never have a problem (and it's WAY faster) installing from disk. You can erase the 800 MB of files after the install if you need the space.

  • Installing ArcSDE 9.2 for Oracle version 10G R2 on Windows 2003 x64

We submitted this question on an ESRI user forum, but we would also like to submit it elsewhere to ensure an answer.
We are trying to install ArcSDE 9.2 for Oracle. The version of Oracle is 10G R2 (10.2.0.1). The server is a Windows 2003 R2 Enterprise x64 edition with SP1. There are now 2 instances of Oracle on the server, but this problem originally occurred when there was only one instance. The issue: ArcSDE 9.2 apparently installs just fine. There are no error messages during the run of the installation process. However, when the Post-Installation process is called, a critical error alert pops up reporting, "The application failed to start because OCI.dll was not found. Reinstalling the application might fix this problem." ArcSDE has been uninstalled and reinstalled several times. Oracle has been uninstalled and reinstalled several times. Various searches have been made, concerning this error message. On Friday the only ESRI Article we could find mentioning this error was Article ID: 25388 which stated that the "ORA81/bin" directory needed to be added to the PATH environment variable. However, today we found a new ESRI forum entry dated 6/2/2007 with the querystring "c=2&f=1717&t=223961" in which someone reported the need to install the 32 bit Oracle_HOME. However the ESRI Support Center article he referenced, (dated November 14, 2006), stated that the 32 bit Oracle Client needed to be installed to a different Oracle_HOME and the service name created for it, is to be used in the Post-Installation process. And finally our Oracle DBA reported seeing another Support Center Article which stated that the 32 bit versions of the Oracle libraries are installed by default in a different location, and it was only necessary to add that location to the PATH environment variable. I have also seen information on Oracle forums stating that this message means that the Oracle client needed to be installed, but our Oracle DBA reports that this is installed by default with Oracle DB server. My question is of course which if any of these solutions is correct?
    E.R. Joell MCSD MCDBA

I have managed an ORacle/ArcSDE environment for many years where multiple SIDs were running.
If it doesn't know which SID then it would indicate that it is picking up the wrong ORACLE_SID environment setting. To be honest, UNIX is an easier environment to operate software in as one can set environment variables to suit software very directly. Now I have not run ArcSDE on a Windows environment before so any suggestions I have may not work as I write them.
Still, I would suggest you consider writing a CMD/batch script that:
    1. Set all appropriate Oracle environment variables DIRECTLY eg
    SET ORACLE_BASE=c:\oracle\product
    SET ORACLE_HOME=c:\oracle\product\10.2.01
    SET ORACLE_SID=...
    2. Set the ArcSDE environment
    3. Sets the Path to include all Oracle, ArcSDE and required Windows executables
    4. Start the ArcSDE service:
NET START ESRARCSDE (or whatever this thing is called)
I suspect if you can get this going you will never go back to any other method of starting and managing ArcSDE (this approach works and works well on UNIX so you will be all skilled up to migrate across to Linux/Solaris etc if you see fit).
    Hope this helps.
PS I have run ArcSDE against non-supported versions quite successfully over the years so I would say try it against 10.2.0.1 and see what happens.

  • Concurrent Manager Issue in Oracle Apps 11i on MS Windows 2003

    Hi,
We have Oracle Apps 11i (11.5.10) on Windows 2003 running Oracle Financilas and Supply Chain.
From this morning onwards, concurrent requests are not getting completed. All requests are showing Running Normally. I checked the server (Single Node 4 GB Memory) and CPU usage is more than 90%. Task Manager is showing 50% CPU usage for SYSTEM (Image Name). Once the CPU usage for SYSTEM(image name) goes beyond 40% then the server is becoming slow and the problem starts.
When I stop the Concurrent Manager it does not stop and I have to End Process the FNDLIBR process manually.
I have recreated the concurrent manager using CCMSETUP and also ran cmclean.sql. Nothing is helping.
System is Live since 2006 and the issue started only today.
Please suggest any solutions as this is happening in our Production system.
    Thanks.
    Thiru

    Thiru,
Which concurrent manager consumes the CPU usage? Are you able to identify it?
Any errors in the CM log file? Did you try to start the CM with diag=y and see if any errors are reported in the log files?
What happen to the CPU usage when you stop the CM?
I assume that you are running Purge Concurrent Manager/Requests on regular basis, so this should not be an issue here.
Please review the following notes, and see if it helps.
