Oracle 8.06 and Windows XP Pro

Is there possibility to install Oracle Client 8.06 in Windows XP Professional?

Oracle 8.1.7 client is the first version supported on XP Pro. And, all components are not supported. Some require patches. 9.0.1 is the first version completely supported on XP.

You can as Kenneth said just drag the virtual machine file to the trash. You should however run the Parallels Uninstaller, present on the Parallels installation disk or in the installer disk image, to completely remove all the Parallels components. Just dragging the Parallals app to the trash may leave components installed and possibly running.

  • How To Use The Same Library - MacBook Pro's And Windows XP Pro?

Background:  I have a fully configured MacBook Pro running OS X 10.8.3. Also, I run Windows XP Pro SP3 using Parallels Desktop. My primary iTunes Library and all content is stored on an external hard disk and the iTunes is "pointed" to that location by setting the iTunes' Preferences' Advanced Settings to the full path where the Library is located. Everything I have inside iTunes works perfect - the size if the Library is over 225GB!
BUT, when I install and use iTunes on my Windows XP Pro operating system (under Parallels), the contents of the Library SEEMS to work okay (while I'm in Windows) but the Windows' iTunes Library location in Preferences' Advance Tab is NOT THE SAME LOCATION AS IS THE MAC's LIBRARY LOCATION! It is not at the same location as my main/primary iTunes Library is "pointed to".
The problem occurs when I close Windows and return to the Mac OS X and then try to use my primary iTunes. All of the contents (and any content) within iTunes no longer work! When I attempt to play ANY song, movie, TV show, music video, audiobook, etc., a message pops up saying in effect "Location of 'x' can't be found, do you want to locate it?" I can then click 'yes' and navigate to the Library file that contains the song's file and it will then play fine, as it should. BUT, ONLY THAT SINGLE SONG WILL WORK - THE REMAINING 225GB STILL DON'T WORK!!!
So, I am forced to go into iTunes' Preferences' Advanced tab and click on "Change Location" then navigate to the proper library file (NOTE, THE LOCATION HAD BEEN CHANGED TO THE LOCATION FOR THE WINDOWS' LIBRARY LOCATION!!!)! Doing this corrects the primary iTunes functionality, but only after being forced to deleting the "iTunes Media Folder", quit iTunes, restart iTunes and Consolidate the Library - a whole bunch of steps and time to get back to "normal"!!!!!
Again, this all happens by going into Windows, opening its iTunes, then THAT triggers the entire scenario I've described above - EVERY TIME!
Thus, I avoid iTunes when I go into Windows, but I should NOT have to avoid using iTunes inside Windows! I hope I have described the problem/issues well enough that someone of you experts can provide a practical solution for me.
A potential remedy I've thought of is:  Go into Windows' iTunes then go into its Preferences' Advance tab and change ITS location to be the exact same location as the primary Mac OS X's, click OK, then immediately close that iTunes.
DOES THIS SOUND LIKE IT WILL WORK - I.e., USING THE EXACT SAME LIBRARY LOCATION FOR BOTH iTUNES?????
IF THIS WOULD WORK, WHAT ELSE MUST I DO TO EITHER iTUNES OR TO BOTH iTUNES TO USE BOTH iTUNES
              USING THE SAME LIBRARY???
Thank you for any suggested solutions - VERY MUCH!
    Larry

Note that sharing a folder between different OS that use different file paths is not recommended as some files can have an absolute path or other OS specific data.
You can click the Choose Folder button if you want to create or use a folder in a different location.<br />
Make sure to select an empty folder (you need to create this folder in advance) and not a folder that already has files as Firefox will use the specified location in this case.

  • ITunes 7.6 and Windows XP Pro x64  ---- 64 bit version of Windows XP Pro

My wife was given an iPod nano, so I downloaded the current version of iTunesSetup.exe from www.apple.com and tried to run the executable. It told me that it wasn't designed to install iTunes on my 64 bit version of Windows XP Pro, and that I should go back to www.apple.com and download the 64 bit installer. I went back to www.apple.com and searched for the 64 bit installer in vain. There is only one main link to the current installer and the website determines which version of the installer you're given. After a few google searches I managed to aquire iTunes64setup.exe from the Apple site. I ran the executable and it told me "This iTunes installer requires that your computer is running Windows Vista 64-bit" and then it gave me the option to exit. I ended up installing iTunes from the executable I had originally downloaded. I have iTunes 7.6.2.9 installed now but it doesn't detect, or can't operate my DVD burner, so I can't rip music with iTunes for use on my wife's nano. I get this error report when I run the Diagnostic test built into iTunes.

And there was no change in the diagnostic when I first tried to repair the install and then tried to reinstall iTunes. I'm sure the burner is working because I can play music, watch movies and all the normal stuff a DVD burner can do using Nero.
I'm guessing I need an iTunes version of 64 bit optical drive driver.
    Any help would be appreciated!

I got the iTunes 7 to work on XP Pro 64bit. What I did was this:
    1. Downloaded DriverInstaller_AMD64EM64T.exe
    2. Installed it.
    3. Created this file tree: C:\Windows\Sysnative\drivers (Easier terminology, I went into the Windows folder and created a folder named "sysnative", opened that folder and created another folder called "drivers".
    4. Then I located the folder where I installed DriverInstaller_AMD64EM64T.exe ..
    5. I took the file called GEARAspiWDM and COPIED IT. I DID NOT MOVE THIS FILE!!!
    6. I pasted a COPY of this file into sysnative\drivers. The folder I just made.
    7. I installed iTunes 7, not 7.6. 7.6 and this method won't solve the burning issue. That would require more programs and more patients.
Note, you will have to manipulate iTunes when you want to burn. The best way to do this, I found, was to simply make a playlist and right click the playlist on the left column and select burn to disk. It should act normally.

  • IPod, iTunes, and Windows XP Pro SP2

I recently upgraded my computer from running Windows XP Pro (no service packs installed) to running Windows XP Pro SP1a, and now SP2.
While running SP1a, I connected my iPod (5th Generation video, 30GB model) to my computer, but it didn't appear in My Computer, nor iTunes. It was recognized by Windows, as noted by the "Safely Remove Hardware" option, as well as my normal "
"HI-SPEED in non-HI-SPEED" warning (my computer is running USB 1.1). I've also tried all four ports, and all four gave me the same response.
I tried connecting it again once I installed SP2, and again, same problems arose. I began trying to troubleshoot it by doing the Right Click on My Computer -> Manage -> Start/Stop iPod Service thing, uninstalling and reinstalling iTunes, repairing iTunes, using the CD I got with my iPod... nothing worked, and it's still only be recognized but basically unusuable.
The iPod displays the "Do Not Disconnect" message, and shows signs of being charged, so I know it can't be anything wrong with the connection. I've also connected it to my school laptop (running XP Pro SP2, USB 2.0 connection) and it worked perfectly fine, showed up in My Computer and everything.
I've even run iTunes, gone to Help menu -> Run Diagnostics -> iPod Diagnostics, and 3 of the 4 "lights" are green; the last one, "iPod Connection Status" is red. And that, of course, tells me nothing about why my iPod won't be recognized otherwise.
I've come to the conclusion that, under SP2, you can't use USB 1.1 but that makes absolutely no sense at all... could anyone help me out and give me any ideas as to whether or not that is true, or else what might be causing the problem?
    Thanks so much in advance!

Just tossing in my experience quickly:
Ever since I "upgraded" to v7 of iTunes, my iPod (60G w/Video) hasn't been recognized, same as Rebecca. Also my TransFlash memory cards aren't recognized, either. I went through many steps listed in these forums, to no avail; I even did a repair install of Windows. I have noticed in my Device Manager the following: a yellow exclamation point beside "parport" and "serial". (Right-click "My Computer" > Properties > Hardware > Device Manager > View > Show Hidden Devices) For both of these entries, under their properties, it says this: "This device is not present, is not working properly, or does not have all its drivers installed. (Code 24)" I haven't found much info surfing the net as of yet... I hope this info helps a bit. Don't mean to hijack, here, either. But in my opinion the new iTunes upgrade corrupts the windows registry somehow, as this story of mine seems to be quite prevalent...

  • HP LASERJET SERVICE and WINDOWS 7 PRO CRASH

My windows 7 pro 64bit will lock up every so often and when I restart and run the Windows reliability monitor  there's always a critical error "HP Laserjet Service" which stopped working right at the same time as  the crash.
In msconfig/services the box is checked and the status is stopped.
That critical error message is always the only one listed by the way.
Printer is the P1102W and I'm only using the wifi.
    Printer always works fine.

Hi aelumley , Sorry to hear you are still having issues. After reinstalling the printer, the icon is now grayed out.
Did you try turning the Laserjet Services in the Startup items back on again to see if that would fix this issue?
Download and run the Print and Scan Doctor. It will diagnose the issue and might automatically resolve it. Find and fix common printer problems using HP diagnostic tools for Windows?
I would run the Microsoft Fix It Tool to see if it will help.

  • MS-6337-LE5 (815EPT) and Windows XP Pro (or XP MCE)

From reading this forum, I have learned that my mainboard can accommodate a clean full install of Windows XP Pro. An upgrade from Windows Me to XP is not recommended. It must be a clean full install. The drive that holds my operating system & applications (C) must be reformatted. I can't reformat the other drive (D) because it has all my files! That one should be okay, though.
What tweaking in addition to the following needs to be done (and/or considered) to prepare the board and to install Windows XP?
The following things were learned from this forum, from Microsoft, and from other sources. Please comment.
    1. Make sure you have the SP1a version of Windows XP Pro.
    2. Make sure it is a retail version and not OEM or Academic. You have no tech support with OEM or academic if you buy it off eBay or elsewhere and not from the manufacturer of your computer. You have a limited number of free tech support incidents with Microsoft if you purchase the retail version. It's either one or two, but I think it may be only one. If you have the money, it's best to buy Windows XP from a retailer or wholesaler rather than from eBay or a private person. Buying from eBay is not like buying from a retailer. Microsoft doesn't transfer licenses from one individual to another. They may not accept an online auction as proof of purchase.
    3. Try to get a new & sealed copy that has never been registered. A previously used, activated, and/or registered copy may cause you problems. See #2 above and #4 below for more info.
    4. XP uses product activation. Only ONE copy is allowed on ONE computer. Once activated, XP cannot be installed on another computer. This means that if you upgrade your motherboard and certain other hardwares, XP thinks you're trying to install on a different computer, and it won't let you, so you will be prompted to contact Microsoft for activation/troubleshooting. If XP has been previously activated by someone else, it may be difficult (or impossible) for you to activate it.
    5. Make sure your motherboard and all hardwares are compatible with XP and that you have drivers available for XP BEFORE you even attempt to install it. Know the locations and paths of those drivers on your D drive (or put them on a disk or CD), so that XP (which will be installed on C) can find them during setup. XP doesn't like certain hardware upgrades. It doesn't like memory swaps, certain new memory DIMMs, motherboard changes, etc. I'm not even sure how it will react to changing the video card, sound card, network card, hard drives, CD/DVD drives, etc., or adding additional devices.
    6. Back up all files, disable Norton AntiVirus and Spybot, uncheck everything in the MSCONFIG startup list, reboot with a Windows Me startup disk, and reformat the C drive.
    7. Reboot, go into BIOS setup, & change the system date to January 2002.
    8. Disable APIC in the BIOS.
    9. Disable antivirus in the BIOS.
    10. Reboot & install Windows XP. Choose whether you want FAT32 or NTFS. Since Drive D (the one with all your stored files) is FAT32 and laptops are FAT32, it may be best to choose FAT32 over NTFS initially. If you choose NTFS, your C drive will be NTFS, but your D drive will still be FAT32, and that may cause a problem during setup. Windows XP may not recognize your D drive, and you may not be able to access all your precious files on it. Choose FAT32 for installation to avoid these problems. You can always convert both drives to NTFS later, if needed. Laptops are still going to be FAT16 and FAT32, though. If you choose NTFS later, this may screw up your network. The laptops might not be able to read files on your computer, if they can even "see" your computer.
    11. If you run into problems during XP setup, write down the error messages and check the Internet for a solution: Microsoft Knowledge Base, MSI forum, other forums, etc. Pray you find a solution. You have at least one free incident with Microsoft tech support, provided you have the retail version. If you can't resolve the problem(s), reformat & reinstall Windows Me. You have no money to pay someone to help.
    12. If you are lucky enough to get XP running right, then reset system date to current date. Configure all drivers until no exclamation points or question marks appear in Device Manager. Device Manager may be called something else in XP, not sure.
    13. Download all Windows Updates & XP Service Pack 2.
    14. Install Internet Explorer 6 SP1 and all its updates. Then run Windows Update at least 3 more times until there are no more updates to install.
    15. Try to get DSL and the firewall working. If you didn't use your free incident with Microsoft yet, you can use it here if you have problems. Try SBC Yahoo! DSL first, though. Their support is free. If you can't resolve the problems, then call Microsoft. If still can't resolve problems, reformat & reinstall Windows Me. You have no money to pay someone to help.
    16. Try to get the home peer-to-peer ethernet network working on your own. Network configuration is NOT included as a free incident with Microsoft. Only paid support is available for that (credit card only or 900 phone number). If you can't get network configured, reformat and reinstall Windows Me. You have no money to pay someone to help.

        Laptop #1:   P1 133Mhz 32MB RAM  Win 98SE
        Laptop #2:   P1 90Mhz   24MB RAM  Win 95a
    17. Reinstall all applications with restarts, registry backups, and system restore points set in between each one -- just to be safe. Install any applications that may cause problems last.
    18. Reinstall Microsoft Office and Norton SystemWorks last. Those applications are likely to cause the most problems. Install Spybot S&D and Ad-Aware 6 for additional protection AFTER Norton is already configured and you have downloaded all available updates & virus definitions.
    19. Back up your C drive as a Ghost image or clone it for safe keeping.
    20. If you've gotten this far, it's a miracle. Enjoy your new life with Windows XP.

Is there anything I left out? Suggestions are appreciated.
WINDOWS XP PRO seems to be the next logical step for me, and that's what I'm planning to do. XP Home doesn't have as many features, so I'm not interested in that one, but there are other editions of Windows XP. Will all of these work with this board, or just some of them? The first one does. What about the other two? I'm inclined to think NO on the 64-bit, but what about the MCE?
    -- Windows XP Pro
-- Windows XP MCE (Media Center Edition)
    -- Windows XP 64-bit
Will the onboard AC'97 sound work in XP, or am I going to have to purchase a sound card?
My current system specs are shown below.
    ============================
Please note that I have purchased a new PowerTek 600-watt power supply, but it will not fit in my existing case. My current case is a proprietary Gateway case. It isn't quite a normal ATX case since the opening in the back where the psu goes is unusual. The power connector on the psu where you plug in the cord that goes from the psu to the wall is blocked by the case, so you can't plug a cord into it. If you can't plug a cord into the psu, you can't install it and can't use it. So I'm stuck with my 200-watt model until I get a new case that is more of an ATX standard. Then the power cord connector will be open and accessible, and I will be able to install the new psu.

  • Bootcamp and WIndows 7 Pro 64 bit

    Hello,
I've restored my system and got Boot Camp to make a partition the size of 150 GB. I try to install Windows 7 Pro 64 bit and I get the message that the BOOTCAMP partition cannot be installed because it's not an NTFS file system. Is there a way to format the BootCamp partition to use the NTFS file system instead of FAT32?

Look on pages 8 and 9 of this install guide (http://manuals.info.apple.com/enUS/Boot_Camp_Install-Setup10.6.pdf) . Disregard the blue screen you see on the top of page 9; that is for Windows XP

  • Bootcamp and windows 8 Pro

Has anyone had a problem with the wireless Apple keyboard and mouse when using Bootcamp?  I am running Windows 8 Pro.  I have done a bootcamp software update after installing Mountain Lion on the OS X side and reinstalling Windows 8 Pro.  My keyboard and mouse work fine on the OS X side and on the password page to Windows, but once on the desktop, NOTHING!  Microsoft says they cannot help me at all and Apple has been very patient about trying to find a fix.  All software is updated and all devices are working properly, according to the messages.  I can hear "clicking" from the desktop speakers when trying to type using Word, so I would think that they keyboard is being recognized.  I am NOT a super computer person, so I have no clue as to what the problem can be.  I am just looking to see if anyone out there has seen this problem.

Windows 8 Pro? Not with BootCamp.
Depending on your computer’s hardware and OS X version, Boot Camp supports Microsoft Windows Windows XP with Service Pack 2, Windows Vista, Windows 7, or Windows 8. For more details, see Boot Camp: System requirements for Microsoft Windows. For information about using 64-bit editions of Windows, see this article.

  • Server 2008r2 and windows 7 pro slow to no networkshare file searching and file access (green progress bar)

we are running a windows server 2008r2 sp1 domain controller and a 3com gigabit switch to which 7 windows 7 pro computers are connected. We are only using the windows server to distribute a few printers and as a network share (z drive).
we are storing all files (word documents only) centrally on the server (z share), and files are accessed and written to the z share.
Problem is that file access from the z share on the windows 7 client computers is at best buggy. we are able to browse the z-share, but as soon as we want to search the z-share for files (f.i. use file explorer with "content: memorandum") the green
progress bar shows and no search is performed. something like alphabetically sorting a directory on map/file name on the z-share also shows a green bar with no sorting. manually going to the files works.
One thing i noticed, sometimes not all files that one user created and stored on the server is visible and can be found by another user. I prefer to disable all offline file caching setting, because that feature is not used. no files should be made accessible
offline. i don't know where to change that on the server side.
I am reluctant to experiment on the server end (2008r2 sp1), so i tried a few suggested solutions on the client end (windows 7 client)
I tried disabling offline file caching
i tried properties (z share) ==> advanced and map optimizing and several options there
i tried disabling the smbv2 protocol and disabling the smbv1 protocol (using
sc.exe config lanmanworkstation depend= bowser/mrxsmb10/nsi command etc. posted by microsoft)
    i tried disabling windows defender
i tried accessing the z share via ip and server name (the share is mapped via its servername, e.g. dennis-dc1\share). still the same
file searching on the clients c drive ('own harddrive') works much better, file searching on the server also works.
any suggestions or solutions that i can test on the client side, as mentioned i am reluctant to change something on the server side. if a solutions works, i prefer to change it on the server side.

    Hi,
The issue could be due to windows indexing service taking long time in sorting and searching in mapped drives. Please try the steps belwo to disable windows indexing service or search service on the windows 7 client to resolve the issue.
You can click on Start and select Control Panel, click on
Programs and Features, go into the Turn Windows Features on or off section Scroll down the list and uncheck the box next to Indexing Service or Windows Search.
    Best Regards,

  • Any experience with Paralles and Windows XP Pro? Advise?

I am new in Mac world. I understand Parallels software will let you install windows on a HD partition.
Any suggestions to make this process as expedite as possible?
How big is the partition required?
Is it possible install windows based aplications on that partition? software?

I have a core 2 Duo (3.33) iMac with 8GB and run Parallels 7 with a Windows 7 operating system. I use it for surfing the web and Microsoft business applications. I find no problem with heat and speed. For everything else, I use OSX.
I was using the same product/operating system on a MacBook Pro (2005) Core 2 Duo with 8GB of RAM and had no difficuties either.
THe problem with Bootcamp is you have to reboot your machine to switch between OSX and Windows. That was a killer for me. In addtion, with Parallels, you can drag files accross platforms if necessary.
I haven't tried Fusion. You can download a trail of Parallels and see how you like it before you commit to a purchase. There are online sales from time to time and you can buy the product for less than $40.00.

  • Oracle Express Edition And Windows Encrypted File System (EFS)

    Hello,
I want to use oracle express edition with windows encrypted file system. I tried some possibilities like encrypting xe folder. But connection can not be established when efs is used. Is there a compatibility problem between oracle xe and windows efs? On Oracle's page, it is declared that oracle database is compatible with Windows EFS.
    Thank you for help.

Pl identify which version of Win 7 - 32-bit or 64-bit ? Home version or something else ?
The 11g XE install is only available for 32-bit version of Win 7 Professional or higher - http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E17781_01/install.112/e18803/toc.htm#BABHICJH. If you are installing on 64-bit version or Home version of Windows, then you are on your own. What is the reason for enabling EFS on this database ?

  • Any explanation for frequent crashes on PP CC 2014 and Windows 7 pro?

I've had many problems with crashes using PPCC 2014. I originally downloaded it this summer and it was impossible to work with so I quickly went back to CS6. I've tried it again lately, thinking that maybe some updates could have solved the crash problems.
If my timeline is pretty straightforward and doesn't include 3rd party effects, it seems to be smooth, but I don't think we're fully compatible with many frequently used 3rd party packages...specifically New Blue Transitions.
Has anyone else been having problems with those transitions?
I don't know what I'm going to do. I hope CS6 continues to be supported because I don't think I can realistically switch all my projects to PPCC 2014. It's just too unstable.
    My specs:
    Windows 7 Pro (64bit)
    i7 950 @ 3.07GHz
    24 GB ram
    Nvidia Quadro 4000
    Third party software:
New Blue transitions and video effects
Pro Dad, stabilizer, transitions and video effects
    Magic Bullet Looks, Mojo, Universe
Would love to hear from others about any like problems, or be steered to the right thread.
    Thanks so much.

I was getting this same error/crash - it started right after I did the most recent update about 3 days ago
since then I can export to media and it randomly crashes while using the program
    (windows 7, 8gb, laptop, i7, 2.00ghz, premiere pro cc 2014.2  8.2.0 Build (65))
well I'm not sure if this is a fix or not but it worked for me been up and running all day today with no crashes and have exported to media on several decent sized projects
so after some reading I went to
preferences>memory and changed it from performance to memory
and then also changed my "ram reserved for other applications" to it's lowest setting (mine was 1.5gb) which opened up .5 gb of memory for premiere pro (now 6.5gb)
again been working all day when it was crashes quite frequently (after the last update)
    hope this helps someone!
