Oracle 8.1.5 on Windows XP

Hi,
I tried to Install Oracle 8.1.5 on Windows XP professional.
It Installs completely, and then I created a Database through the Database Configuration Assistant and connect to that Database as well. Everything is working fine until I reboot my machine. Once I reboot my machine, The Listener starts , all other services start, but my Oracle DB does not start. In the Services Area, I can see the service status as "Starting". It does not give an error of any sort as well.
I have reinstalled Oracle 3 times but in vain. It only works up until I reboot.
If anybody knows a solution, kindly help
Thanks
Kshitij

hi,
Im using 8.1.6 and have the same problem, tried on different machines and with WIN2000 server as well,
service keeps on hanging.
The workaround i found is killing the ora processes and manually launch once or twice and then you will see that the DB service runs well.
Strange.

  • Migration from Oracle 9i 32 bit to Oracle 10G 64 bit on Windows 2003 Server

I am working on migrating Oracle 9i 32 bit to Oracle 10G 64 bit on Windows 2003 from Old server to new server. We have db around 500 GB and 3 schemas. I installed Oracle 10G on new server, created tablespaces, schema's blah blah and now doing export and import at schema level from old server to new server.
Import is taking more than 4 to 5 hours on new server. My manager is saying, window time is bit longer and he wants me to try possiblities to make this process faster. Can some one help me on this, to use the best possible method to complete this process faster?
Will below step work, if I try?
If I install, oracle 9i and 10g both on new server in different home directories and take the hot backup from old machine and restore on new machine in 9i home directory and use the upgrade configuration assistant from 10g and do the upgrade? Pls advice.
    Thanks in advance,

    It looks good.
I have one question in below steps:
To migrate an Oracle9i or older database to an Oracle Database 10g Release 1 (10.1) database for 64-bit Windows:
    1 Perform steps 1 - 11 in "Migrating an Oracle Database 10g Release 1 (10.1) Database".
2 Shut down the database on the 64-bit computer:
    SQL> SHUTDOWN IMMEDIATE;
    3 Start the database migration:
    SQL> STARTUP MIGRATE;
4 Migrate the database as described in Chapter 3, "Upgrading a Database to the New Oracle Database 10g Release" in Oracle Database Upgrade Guide.
In step 4, it says, migrate database as described in chapter 3. In chapter 3, it says, to do the upgrade the process using dbca or manually. Pls confirm whether do the upgrade process after issuing startup migrate or not.
    Thanks in advance.

Request you to help me out in resolving the issue.
Thanks in advance for your cooperation.

    Hi Helios

  • Installation Problem Personal Oracle 8.0.4 on Windows 2000

When trying to install Personal Oracle 8.0.4 on a Windows 2000 machine, i get an Error:
"Unable to delete the NT Service for the SQL *Net V2 Listener".
No previous installation of Personal Oracle is present on this machine as it's a newly installed OS.
    Any Help would be appreciated

I tried installing Oracle 8i Personal Edition in Windows 2000. The installer loads and it start installing the files, except when it goes half way through the installation, it quits. I don't know if this is a bug in 8i Personal Edition or not. Because I am unable to install the software on my machine.

Note that no Home or Starter editions of Windows are on the requirements list of the installation guide. Make sure all pre-reqs are followed, thoroughly.

But I am unable to get wls version 10.3.2.
For better understanding I am listing my installers :

    (III) ofm_pfrd_win_11.1.1.2.0_64 (1 to 4)

    (VII) ofm_wc_generic_11.1.1.5.0_disk1_1of1
    (VIII)jdk-6u38-nb-7_2_1-windows-i586-ml , jdk-6u38-windows-x64
    (IX) oepe-wls-indigo-installer-11.1.1.8.0.201110211138-10.3.6-win32

    (XIII)oepe-indigo-installer-12.1.1.0.1.201203120349-12.1.1-win64
After the installation while configure the forms reports, I am stuck while creating domain.
    steps I follow is :
    (i) Install Windows 7 Ultimate 64 Bit
    (ii) (Oracle 11g) win64_11gR2_database (1 & 2)

  • Installing Oracle 8.1.6 on Windows ME

    Howdy all!
I am trying to install Oracle 8.1.6 on Windows ME..
    Nice Welcome page.. click next
    File Locations page..
    Source Path: E:\STAGE\products.jar
    Destination Path:
    E:\STAGE\COMPONENTS\ORACLE.SWD.JRE\1.1.7.24\1\DATAFILES\EXPANDED\JRE\WIN32\B
    IN\..\\Oracle\Ora81
Now, I click on help and it tells me that for Windows platforms I should see
a "Name" field under Destination to create an Oracle Home name. No "Name"
field... oh well. I change the Destination Path field to: C:\Oracle\Home\
    and click next
The next screen I see says Error: There was a problem in accessing the
staging area. Please make sure the specified values for 'Source' and
    'Destination' are valid.
It appears to me that the Source cannot be anything different (my cd rom
is drive E after all) so I try the following for Destination path:
    C:\Oracle\
    C:\Oracle
    C:\Oracle\Home\
    C:\Oracle\Home
    C:\Oracle\Orawin\
    C:\Oracle\Orawin
and get the same error message.. and I get no further than this.
My partner has a Win 98 machine and I notice that Oracle displays the "name" field on her machine - but not on mine of course. Does this mean I have no hope of getting Oracle 8.1.6 to work on Windows ME?
    Thanks!

    Bugger.
Thank you very much for the info!
Oracle 1.0.4 installed ok and does work - one or two crashes here or there but it does the job.

  • Oracle 11g R2 Install on Windows 7 64 bit setup.exe does not work.

    Hi
I am trying to install Oracle 11g R2 on my Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit. When I execute setup.exe as Administrator the command window flashes and exits. I could not even see what the message is. Also tried command prompt. Can anyone help me resolve this issue?

    Finally the install is successful.Congratulations.
And thank you for posting your solution. The security issue was quite a surprise to me as well, although it ties into a PC World article I read today.
To continue, please make sure you have a static IP address. If your system uses DHCP, that may mean setting up Loopback Adapter, configuring a static IP address other than 127.0.0.1 for that (for example you can use 192.168.123.101), and updating C:\windows\system32\drivers\etc\hosts. (note - no 3 char 'type on the hosts file) to include an entry like '192.168.123.101 myhost.example.com myhost', and perhaps setting your ORACLE_HOSTNAME variable. This is all described well in the Install documentaiton at http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/E11882_01/install.112/e10843/reqs.htm#BABIAEEC

  • Whether Oracle 8.1.6 Supports Windows 2003 Server/Windows 2000 Adv. Server

    Dear All,
Whether Oracle 8.1.6 Supports Windows 2003 Server/Windows 2000 Adv. Server.
I tried it in windows 2003 server but i couldn't. Atlease tell me wheather it support windows 2000 adv. server. This is my first dba job.
Under Doc ID: 66397.1 saying Oracle 8.1.6 Not Support Windows NT Server 4.0 Terminal Server Edition.
Under Doc ID: 77627.1 saying Oracle 8.1.6 Supports Windows 2000 Support.
    Please help me out urgently.

Since you have access to Metalink, you could be looking at the Certify tab to find this information. But, the answer is that 8.1.6 is no longer supported by Oracle. However, you should be able to install it on Win 2000 advanced server. You just can't get any support for it.
The earliest version of db supported on Win 2003 was either 9.0 or 9.2, but 9.0 is desupported now as well.

  • Install Oracle 8i Personald Edition on Windows 2000 Server SP2

    Hi
I have problem to install the Oracle 8i Personal Edition on
    Windows 2000 Server SP2.
I run the Setup.exe, I become the message (not exactly) “JRE
(Java Runtime Environment) was not found…… please visit
www.javasoft.com….. and install JRE version 1.1.7 or higher…”
Now, I have download and install this JRE (JavaTM 2 Runtime
    Environment v 1.2.2_008 / Internationalized version of Java 2
    Runtime Environment).
    The error-messages comes again.
    Have everyone a idea?

    hi phill...
why dont you try it out with the same CD and increase your RAM
by another 64MB? This will be enough. The reason is , most
Oracle 8i releases are combined with a java based Oracle
Universal Installer. This requires some good amount of RAM. Just
try it out with some extra memory. If this also didnt work, then
send in the problem, error with your system config. This will
help me in solving your problem.
    Imran.
