Oracle 8.1.6 Installation Issues

I've tried to install Oracle 8.1.6 many times with no success. Installing the "Typical" configuration works fine until it is 90% done with creating the starter database. Then, I will get an, "end of file on communication channel" error message. The database creation stops at that point. If I try to create the database manually using SVRMGRL, I get a, "TNS:protocol adapter error" message. Attempts at reconfiguring the tnsnames, listener, or password files have failed.
The install platform:
- Windows NT 4.0 (with service pack 5)
(it may have an option pack as well)
- Intel Celeron 500 mhz
- 13 gb hard drive
- 256 mb ram

TCP/IP seems to be functioning properly considering that Oracle 8.0.5 will install and run perfectly.
Oracle 8.1.6 doesn't seem to have a problem writing to the registry or creating the services.
It is possible that the issue has to do with the NT installation itself because a co-worker was able to get it running on the same platform after a clean image was loaded.

  • Oracle Linux 6.2 Installation Issue

Basic Oracle Linux 6.2 installation problems.
There are two iso files supplied for the installation.
    V29609-01.iso (install files)
    V29610-01.iso (bootable disc)
I boot from V29610-01.iso and the setup files run fine.
I am then prompted to identify the location of the second disc.
I encountered a problem where my DVD drive door would not open to insert the second disc.
To work around this problem I created a partition on my hard disc to copy
the installation files for the second disc to.
I boot from windows 7 (my primary operating system) and copy the installation files from the disc
    to the partition.
    I reboot from V29610-01.iso.
When prompted to identify the location of the install disc/files on my hard drive
I selected the drive where I copied the files to and press <enter>
I receive a message that it cannot find the image disc there.
    I shut down.
I boot from windows 7 and this time copy the actual disc image
    V29609-01.iso there instead
I reboot from V29610-01.iso and repeat the same procedure.
It still can't locate the disc image.
(I noticed the boot disc always defaults to the following structure in its displayed path \image\image.img
for the image file that it is trying to locate)
    I shutdown.
I boot from windows 7 and this time create a directory called image and
rename V29609-01.iso to image.img and copy it to the image directory. Still no luck.
Why can't it locate the disc image?
    Thankyou

    @ O.P.,
What are you actually trying to accomplish? Replacing your Windows OS with dual boot Linux? In the later case I recommend you to use VirtualBox and forget about the old-fashioned and obsolete dual boot. Of course your system must not be older than 7 years with a x86_64 CPU and VT-x or AMD-d option. Why do you want to install a 32-bit OS?
Anyway, the V29609-01.iso install DVD is bootable. You will need to burn the .iso disk image doing a raw disk copy, but not the content of the mounted .iso image or you will loose the bootloader. There is plenty of information in Google searching for "burn iso image". If you use Virtualbox you can boot right of the disk image file without burning a DVD.

  • Oracle Warehouse Builder 10g installation issues

    Hi All,
I have downloaded the OWB 10g, from the site. I have Oracle 10g (Release 2) database server installed on the machine.
When I start installing Oracle Warehouse Builder 10g, it just does the client installation and I am not able to find out were should I search for the OWB server installation?
Even I have checked by installing the same but I just have Repository Assistant , Design Center and Repository Browser available on the machine. I could not find the Runtime Assistant & Control Center to work on?
Can somebody help me out with these issues?
    Thanks in advance.
    Regards,
    Anand

    Hi...
There is an explanations..from the FAQ itself :
How do I download and install Warehouse Builder Client versus Warehouse Builder Server?
Warehouse Builder is a single install image that contains both Client and Server components, which are installed at the same time as part of the installation process. If the deployment target database is on the same machine as Warehouse Builder Client UI, there is one single installation process. If the deployment target database is on a separate machine, the install process has to be run twice, repeating the exact same install process on the client machine (to run the Warehouse Builder Design client) and the deployment target machine. Normally when installing the repository, either locally or remotely, the OWB software needs to be already present on the machine. However, it is possible to skip or defer the step of installing on the target deployment machine. This is referred to as a “Remote Target Configuration”. More information on this can be found in the Installation Guide, Chapter 2, “Remote Target”.
    hope this helps...

  • Oracle 11g R2 Windows Installation issue

    Hey everybody,
i was trying to install Oracle 11g R2 on a Windows Server 2008 64-bit machine. During the installation i am getting an error message multiple times (about 20 times) where it says it cannot find certain files like C:\app\ora11g\product\11.2.0\dbhome_1\oc4j\j2ee\oc4j_applications\WFMLRSVCApp.ear and some other files too. If i click move on in the dialog box each time an error occurs the installation will succeed and finish successfully.
What am I doing wrong, do I have to change anything before installation starts?
I am using the correct 64-bit installation files i downloaded from the Oracle homepage...

    Hi Hans,
know I found where it contains the information about the downloads. It only shows up when you click on the "See All", but it won´t show up if you directly download via the Disk 1 or Disk 2 link on the download page. Good point. I never would have believed noobs would stop at that page and not be curious about what other stuff might be available under 'See All'. Stuff like the 'De-install' package.
Since you didn't do it, I posted a comment/suggestion in the Download forum to put an additional note on the top 11gR2 download page.
What brings up more confusion is when you click on the "See All" button next to the download for the 32-bit Version of 11g R2 for Windows an error comes up. Worked for me.
You reported your error ... where?
So I think Oracle needs to improve its homepage a lot...If you have ideas there is a forum "Forum Home » Technology Network Community » Community Feedback and Suggestions" in which you you are welcome to submit comments.

  • Oracle 11g FREE download installation issues

I am installing this database on an HP Pavilion Desktop
I essentially have TWO (2) issues.
    1st ISSUE
I was able to successfully run the setup.exe and my Oracle 11g is now installed.
When I go to start, programs, Oracle, Application Development, SQL Plus
it opens a windown for SQL plus, however, I am not able to do anything.
I followed the install instructions about setting up the ODBC drivers, however I still
can not get this to work. Would also like to know how to set access to this up as a desktop icon.
    2nd ISSUE
Acording to the README..for the Oracle Enterprise Edition, I was only required to download
    V20610-01 Part 1 of 2
    V20610-01 Part 2 of 2
    V20609-01
    V20606-01
    V19145-01
The Oracle Fusion Middleware download V18762-01 they said was OPTIONAL (O)
Because I was having problems with the install where it was coming up with errors about
not finding files, I downloaded ALL the ones from the list which were for 64bit INCLUDING Orcale Fusion Middleware.
Only then did my install work properly.
What I need to know is, on a desktop where I will be the only user,
IS THE ORACLE FUSION MIDDLEWARE REQIRED?
If NOT, and I completed the install, what will happen if I delete that folder (size is 11G)?
    Please advise!

Could I safely ignore this warning?

download the 'glibc-2.3.4-2.41' rpm and apply it and then start installing..You should be really carful when replacing things like the glibc. If he has not the required version then me is
probably using a not certified operating system. All certified operating system already ship with the required versions.
I am not saying upgrading the glibc wont work... but you might end up with inconsistent system.

  • Oracle on Windows XP Installation Issues

I have lots of experience with Oracle on Unix/Solaris/HP etc. I just downloaded the Oracle 10g Developer for WIndows, unziped and installed. The Install did ask me about the listner but I can't find it running nor is the database running.
I read throught the quick install (as directed) but to no avail.
I am under short time contraint as I have been asked if Oracle can replace Access in an office application that the owner would like to take to market for property management.
I will have to learn Designer but I think it will be worth while if I could only get Oracle installed properly.

Hi i found ur blog very useful but i just m not understanding how to set the environment variable i.e
    Optional Steps Before Installing
*1. You may want to remove or modify the following environment variables TNS_NAMES and ORACLE_HOME. Your machine may be configured for an earlier version of Oracle. This can be done by navigating to Start --> Control Panel --> System --> Advanced --> Environment Variables.*
In this case i do not hve any previous versions of Oracle so i did not find these variables .
    Installing Oracle 10g
    *1. Create an environment variable called ORACLE_HOSTNAME = mymachine.domain*
*2. Modify your hosts file (C:\windows\system32\drivers\etc\hosts) and add an entry that matches the value of the ORACLE_HOSTNAME. For example, my host files looks like:*
    *127.0.0.1 localhost*
    *192.168.10.1 mymachine.mydomain.com mymachine*
Here i installed the Loopback Adapter exactly the way u mentioned and was useful but then what would be the value in my case mymachine.domain and should this be the value set in the mymachine.mydomain value .when i created the loopback adapter i used exactly the same ip that u mentioned along with the subnet mask and it worked for me .so will my ORACLE_HOSTNAME be = 192.168 ???
i still havent understood the SID value already exists error???pls explain in 2 parts

  • Oracle user installation issue

    I followed the instructions from
    http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E16655_01/install.121/e17752/usr_grps.htm#BACGFIFJ
on my Solaris 11.1 VirtualBox box.
    Since i used the Solaris 11.1 - Text install, i don't have a graphical interface (no X11)
i created an oracle user, as per the documentation instructions, using the command:
    # /usr/sbin/useradd -u 54321 -g oinstall -G dba,oper oracle
The instructions in the following section http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E16655_01/install.121/e17752/usr_grps.htm#BABBHHAD
say i should modify the .bash_profile file (which i assume is in the user's home directory)
The problem is that the oracle user created using the earlier command has no home directory. Actually, after logging in as oracle, i get the following message:
No directory! Logging in with home=/
    # grep oracle /etc/passwd
    oracle:x:54321:54321::/export/home/oracle:/usr/bin/bash
    but /export/home/oracle does not exist.
When i try to mkdir /home/oracle i get:
mkdir: Failed to make directory "/home/oracle"; Operation not applicable
Needless to say, i cannot follow the rest of the Installation guide since user oracle has no home.
I understand that this is mostly a Solaris admin question, but my issue is with the installation guide for not being clear about its assumptions, which is why i posted this here.
    Edit:
    some more output:

after some digging, i found that this is a known bug, included in Solaris 11.1's Release notes.
Funny thing, this bug is listed as "Previously Documented Bug, Fixed in Solaris 11.1

Finally found my answer in another document. Setting Up and Managing User Accounts by Using the CLI - Managing User Accounts and User Environments in Oracle Solaris …
Apparently, with Solaris 11.1 one must use the -d and the -m switches when creating a new local user.
So the correct command to have issued is this:
    /usr/sbin/useradd -u 54321 -g oinstall -G dba,oper -d localhost:/export/home/oracle -m oracle
Once the command was issued, the /export/home/oracle directory was created, (due to the -m switch), and because the user's home directory contains the hostname: part, this means that the /etc/auto_home file was updated.
Once i logged in into the oracle account, the /home/oracle directory was created by autofs.
The Oracle 12c documentation concerning the Solaris 11.1 OS should be updated to include the -d and -m switches.

  • Oracle BIEE installation issue: Application Server default OC4J name error

    Hi all,
I am installing OBIEE 10.1.3.3.2 windows 32bit version on windows 2003 sp2. Before the installation I have installed the JDK 5 and Application Server 10.1.3.1.0(J2EE Server and Web Server) on the same server according to the pre-install section in the OBIEE installation guide.
When I install OBIEE (advanced installation), I got the error when I specify the Oracle Application server location:
Please specify a valid Oracle Application Server 10g installation location. A valid Oracle Application Server 10g installation must have the default OC4J instance named home and that home OC4J instance must be enabled.
When I install the Application Server 10.1.3.1.0, I have change the default OC4J name to "oc4j-soa", I think this is the root reason I got the error. I have tried to create another OC4J instance named "home", but failed coz the name is used for another directory.
Then can I have another way to continue the installation? Why OBIEE installer have this strange constrain while not any words about this issue in the installation guide (coz I follow the each steps in the guild before I take action)? I have search some threads and the only information is to install a simple installation, but it would create another application server..... and the simple installation type is not what I want.
Can anybody give me some hint or information about this issue? otherwise I have to purge and reinstall the server...... Thanks
    Scott

Reinstalling the App Server and naming oc4j instance to be called "home" resolves the issue but this is an odd requirement. I have an OC4J instance already running and it is named something else. Is there any other alternative to make this work?
    Swapan.
PS. I can always create a new oc4j instance named "home" but this is wasting of server resources.

We have experienced the PIM Sync installation issue where the client couldn't detect Outlook. We have several work stations downloaded the file and only one station has installed it successfully. We even tried to use the file that worked on that station to install into the ones that didn't work. However, we got no luck. • Oracle 9iAS Installation Issues, Win 2000

    Hi Folks,
    I'm trying to Install 9IAS on a WIN2000 PE.
I already have Oracle NT Personal Edition (download nt817personal), up and running.
My Question is do I need to use Oracle nt817ee (Enterprise Edition)
    Any suggestions ?
    Thanks

I agree with your 5 P's, but Oracle is killing themselves by not improving the installation issues. Oracle is in a fight to the death with Microsoft, and there are a lot of people who give up on Oracle products because the learning curve is too steep just to be able to login as Scott. I have a lot of experience with Windows and Oracle, and have installed the RDBMS on probably 50 separate machines in the last several years, yet I still cringe when I double click setup.exe since I never know if universal installer is going to abort. I'm not a Unix or Linux guru, and I tried and tried to get Oracle RDBMS 8i to install on several flavors of Red Hat, but I gave up. DB2 and Interbase both installed without the hassles. Take a look at the Linux forum on Technet, and look at the effort that some people are doing to try to get it to work. It should not be this hard. I would like to use Linux/Oracle on some of our servers, but frankly it is too hard currently. You shouldn't need a metal link account to install software on a clean install of Windows, or be a guru at writing device drivers for Linux to install Oracle on that platform.

Can you help me with debug switches(or command line options) that can be used with the installer.
    Thanks,
    Prem

    Prem,
In addition to the C:\Oracle directory, the C:\Oracle\tuxedo10gR3_VS2005 directory also must either not exist or be a writable directory. If C:\Oracle\tuxedo10gR3_VS2005 previously exists as an ordinary file or as a read-only directory then you will get the "Path should be absolute and have write Permissions!" erorr.
If you type "C:\Oracle" manually into the installer you must be sure not to enter any leading spaces. (This will not be an issue if you use the "browse" functionality to select this directory.
You may also want to investigate if you get the same error if you try to install in Tuxedo in a directory that has not previously been used as an ORACLE_HOME and you should ensure that there is sufficent disk space on the C: drive. (These problems shouldn't cause the error your seeing, but it is worthwhile eliminating these as possible causes.)
If these suggestions don't resolve the problem, then you'll probably need to enter a support case to determine what is different between your environment and the environment of other customers whose intallations have been successful.
    Regards,
    Ed

  • Forms 10g Installation issue on windows 7 Professional service pack 1

    hi
I am trying to install oracle forms 10g  64 bit windows 7 Professional service pack 1 ..
Below are 2 files that i am using ..
    ds_windows_x86_101202_disk1.zip (626,122,752 bytes)
    ds_windows_x86_101202_disk2.zip (236,880,881 bytes)
But it failed but the error is ..
Checking operating system version: must be 4.0, 5.0, 5.1 or 5.2.    Actual 6.1     Failed <<<<
just wondering if there are any workaround ..

Christian is right - Forms 10g R2 (version 10.1.2.0.2) is not certified for installation on Windows 7.  You must apply a Forms 10g R2 patch to bring the version to 10.1.2.3.0 for it to be certified.  You must have a My Oracle Support account to obtain the patch.
Now, to your question - is there a workaround; the answer is yes.  There are known issues with this installer.  I'll list them and their workaround.
    1.  The Oracle installer checks for a specific set of Windows versions rather than check for a minimum Windows version.
Workaround:  Right-click the Installer and select Properties.  Click the Compatibility tab and click the checkbox: Run this program in compatibility mode for:  Windows XP SP3).
    2.  The Oracle Installer can't detect Windows Managed Virtual Memory (VM).
Workaround:  You must temporarily change the Virtual Memory settings and specify specific Initial and Maximum sizes.  See this Microsoft article for more information on changing VM settings.  http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-vista/change-the-size-of-virtual-memory
This change will require you to restart your computer.  After you have successfully installed Oracle Forms 10g, you can restore the original VM settings.
    3.  The Oracle installer MUST be installed as an "Administrator".
Workaround:  Windows 7 uses "Least privileged user" so you must right-click the Installer and select the Compatibility tab.  Click the "Run this program as an administrator" checkbox.
    4.  Not a Oracle installer issue, but you will have to install the 32-bit version of the Oracle Java Runtime Environment (JRE) (1.6.0 - not 1.7.0) because Oracle Forms is a 32-bit application so it will not be able to use the 64-bit JRE.
Run the Oracle installer and it should now install succesfully.
