Oracle 8.1.7 install fails on RH Enterprise Linux  3

Hi!
I've been desperately trying to install Oracle 8i database to RedHat Enterprise Linux 3 (actually it's Whitebox 3.0 that is exactly the same as RH but the logos and other RH stuff stripped), with no luck. I tried to follow the numerous instructions I've found on the net for RH 7.x versions.
I've installed the glibc compat rpm's and jdk 1.1.8 from blackdown.org and the installer itself starts fine. First problem is that the installer can't detect the ip address of the host. After ignoring that, the install part goes fine but I get a lot of errors about makefiles during the linking. After ignoring the errors and fixing the buggy root.sh script, the Net8 assistant starts, and stops giving out error about missing java .so file in $ORACLE_HOME/lib directory. I checked it, but I can't find the .so file anywhere.
I've tried to exit the installer, apply the stub patch from oracle and the run dbassist which starts fine but quits after a java error.
Any ideas what should I do?

  • Install Oracle 11.2 (ASM) failover on Red Hat Enterprise Linux Suite

    Hi everybody,
I need installer Oracle 11.2 with asm on Failover Cluster Red Hat linux Suite (two servers), could someone help me?
    There is documentation about that...
    My idea is
    - Installer oracle in both servers
    - Installer Infraestructure Grid for asm in both server
    - Create database on asm (ams disk shoud be same for boths servers)
Is soported gfs (global file system) and asm?
    I have many doubts.
    Thanks in advance.

    I have several comments:
Don't use the RPM utility to install software. It does not resolve dependencies. As of RHEL 5, YUM or UP2DATE are the standard software management tools.
RHEL? Do you have a paid subscription or money to waste? If not, you will be much better off using Oracle Linux, because you can download it for free and also have access to all errata and patches for free (http://public-yum.oracle.com). If you need the RHCK kernel instead of the more advanced Oracle UEK kernel, which is optimized by Oracle for Oracle products, no problem, because Oracle Linux ships with both. If you want to use Linux ASMLib under RHEL 6, you need a RHEL subscription to download the kernel module. The Oracle UEK kernel includes the driver.
Also if you use Oracle Linux, you can install the oracle-rdbms-server-11gr2-preinstall package, which triggers the installation of all prerequisite software and takes care of kernel parameters and creating the Oracle account. You then simply set a password for the Oracle account and you're done.
RHEL 6.0. Why such an old version and not 6.4?
According to my records, you can use the following command under  RHEL 6 to install the 11gR2 prerequisite software. Yum will automatically install other depended software as required.
    yum install compat-libstdc++-33 compat-gcc-34 compat-gcc-34-c++ \
    elfutils-libelf-devel ksh sysstat make gcc gcc-c++ compat-libcap1 \
    glibc-devel glibc-common glibc-headers libstdc++-devel libaio-devel

  • Could I install bi applications on enterprise linux?

    Hi expert,
Is there a install guide for linux?
    Thanks.

Yes you can instal BIA796 on linux. But you don't have an installer for all components.
So you install BIA on a windows environment, this will create a dwrep folder in your Oracle BI home dir.
And in a RPD file in oraclebi/server/repository
and a web cat in oraclebidata/web/catalog
Copy all those files to linux to the same place
and continue with installing the informatice server
after that you must install the DAC server. But the manual says you have to install this on windows first as well... but if you take a look on OTN, you will see that there is an installer for unix as well...
So don't know if you can install the DAC server directly on linux...
    Good luck...
    just follow the manual carefully!!

So i run these commands to setup the pwd for Admin
    SQL>@apexins SYSAUX SYSAUX TEMP /i/
    SQL>@apxldimg /home/oracle
    SQL>@apxchpwd <enter ADMIN password when prompted>
Some where it gone wrong. now im unable to browse apex.
Perhaps the cause of your problem was running apexins.sql and apxldimg.sql scripts ( used for the installing Apex, not changing passwords ).
As suggested, please post in the Apex forums - Oracle Application Express (APEX)
Apex 3.0 is old. I'd be installing 4.1 if I was you.
Google is also your friend. Doing a quick search will bring up plenty of blogs with step-by-step instructions on how to install and upgrade Apex.

  • Oracle Linux 6.2 with RAC 11g cluster install fails on root.sh ioctl

I have 2 HP Servers I'm trying to install a cluster to.
I've tried Oracle Linux 6.2 and 6.3 with the same error on both nodes when running the root.sh script.
I have tried the permissions, run-levels, etc that I have found in the forum and nothing has worked except the deconfigure works great. /u01/app/11.2.0/grid/crs/install/rootcrs.pl -deconfig -force
    root.sh Errors:
    Adding daemon to inittab
CRS-4124: Oracle High Availability Services startup failed.
CRS-4000: Command Start failed, or completed with errors.
ohasd failed to start: Inappropriate ioctl for device
ohasd failed to start at /u01/app/11.2.0/grid/crs/install/rootcrs.pl line 443.
I can't see whats wrong, I did use ASM to configure iSCSI disks from a storage device which appeared to work correctly:
    # oracleasm listdisks
    VOL1
    VOL2
    VOL3
    VOL5
    # ls /dev/oracleasm/disks/
    VOL1 VOL2 VOL3 VOL5
When I created the disks with ASM I used multipath successfuly:
    # oracleasm createdisk VOL1 /dev/mapper/23535333762373932
The other node can see the disks just fine with oracleasm listdisks
    I chose 3 disks for the OCR - VOL1-3
There was one forum work around to edit the $GRID_HOME/crs/install/s_crsconfig_lib.pm which I did no Oracle Linux 6.3 to no avail. I also tried using NFS mounted volumes for the OCR drives but got the same error.
    Using the install: linux.x64_11gR2_grid

oracleasm (aka asmlib) may not be supported on RHEL(OEL) 6.x. You do NOT need asmlib and it's days are numbered.
upon review of this document, even though it was for 10g, it still appears to be relevant

  • CRS install fails Oracle home incompatibility checks  ( 10G )

    Hi,
I'm trying to install RAC for 10.2.0 . The first step is to install cluster Ready Services ( On red hat linux ) . When it does the product specific prequisite checks, it fails on "Checking for Oracle home incompatibilities".
I get the error " Oracle clusterware cannot be installed into an existing oracle home".
I did a previous attempt at an install which failed. I have completely deleted the
/oracle/product/10.2.0/crs directory which was previously created.
If I check the environment variables, I get :
    [oracle@rac1 db_1]$ env | grep -i home
    HOME=/oracle
    ORACLE_HOME=/oracle/product/10.2.0/db_1
So, in my thinking there is no trace now of a previous home for CRS.
So why am I getting the error ??
    Thanks
    George

It seems taht you have not cleared the inventory..As menioned earlier use OUI to remove the oracle_home from inventory. In case you do not wish to use the existing ORACLE_HOME=/oracle/product/10.2.0/db_1 or any other Oracle Installation on this server, then you can go ahead and remove the inventory itself.
You can use Note:239998.1 for the various files to be removed for cleaning up CRS..

  • Oracle 7 install fails with Windows XP SP3

After installing Windows SP3 on systems with XP Professional 32 bit, we cannot install Oracle 7.3.4, which is required for an older 16 bit program. Running the Oracle 7 setup.exe returns an error "setup.exe is not a valid Win32 application". The installer file is not corrupt, we can still run the setup successfully on any computers that still have XP Pro SP2 installed.
However, systems that had Oracle 7.3.4 installed prior to the Windows SP3 update will run the software OK; it is just new installations of Oracle 7.3.4 that fail.
I have tried running the install off of a CD, network drive, and copied the files to the local machine, all return the same error. I have tried different users all with Admin privileges. I tried installing with each compatibility mode checked, clean booting the machine, and updating Windows Installer. I always get the "setup.exe is not a valid Win32 application" error.
    Any suggestions or info?
    Thanks

    Here is some updated information.
Systems that have been in service for a long time and updated from Windows XP Pro SP2 to SP3 will not run the Oracle 7 installer. All machines that still have SP2 will run the installer.
However, systems that we recently formatted and reinstalled Windows XP Pro with SP2, and then updated to SP3, will run the installer for Oracle 7 with SP3 already installed. This indicates that it is not SP3 that is the issue. It could be an update that was done in the past (Microsoft or another software vendor), or some different file that is on the other machines (same brand, models, and OS, just been in service without being formatted recently).
We also have Oracle 10g on all the systems, but the old CrisPlus program probably won't run with Oracle 10g, because we have to add "C:\ORAWIN\BIN" to the system Environmental Variables or we get a "Ora7win.dll" error when launching the CrisPlus program. An Oracle expert or programmer may know how to work around this issue, but I do not know how.
This does give us options to fix the Oracle 7 issue. Either rollback the SP3 update and then install CrisPlus prior to the installation of SP3, or format the systems and reinstall Windows XP Pro, Service Pack3, and Oracle 7.
Thanks for the input. If anyone thinks of an easier workaround please let me know.

  • Installation of Oracle Failed on Oracle Enterprise Linux.

    Hi All,
I have installed Enterprise Linux Release 5 Update 2 for x86 (32 Bit) provided by oracle e-delivery on my Vmware Virtaul machine. When i try to install Oracle Database 10g Release 2 (10.2.0.1.0) for Linux x86,after running the runInstaller i am getting the following error.
    [oracle@vmware database]$ ./runInstaller
    Starting Oracle Universal Installer...
    Checking installer requirements...
    Checking operating system version: must be redhat-3, SuSE-9, redhat-4, UnitedLinux-1.0, asianux-1 or asianux-2
    Failed <<<<
Note:Oracle E-Delivery has provided 5 CD's to downlaod for Enterprise Linux Release 5 Update 2 for x86 (32 Bit). But the installation of LINUX finished succesfully with 3 CD's only.I donot have any idea for what purpose the remaining CD's 4 and 5.Do i need to install CD's 4 and 5 seperately. Is this the problem for orcle DB installation failure or is there any exclusive database which i need download for Enterprise Linux Release 5 Update 2 for x86 (32 Bit).
Any help in this issue is highly appreciated.
    Thank You Very Much.

I am also getting the same error as a previous poster:
    >>>
    All installer requirements met.
Preparing to launch Oracle Universal Installer from /tmp/OraInstall2009-02-02_04-31-29PM. Please wait ...[ora10@el5a database]$ Exception in thread "main" java.lang.UnsatisfiedLinkError: /tmp/OraInstall2009-02-02_04-31-29PM/jre/1.4.2/lib/i386/libawt.so: libXp.so.6: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory
    <<<
I downloaded and installed Oracle EL5 (64 bit). I have a Network-level support, so I ran the up2date and picked up all the updates and installed them. My company is a licensee of 10g, so I downloaded 64bit 10g, and ungzip-uncpio'd it into a work directory. When I try to install it, it blows up at the above point.
In reading the above comments, I rpm'd libXp and libaio, but this does not change the failure of runInstaller.
    Any hints?
