Oracle 8.1.7 on 6.2 RedHat installation

Hello,
Well, everything is running fine except,
it would seem for the java stuff.
Things where working great yesterday, but today, for no appearent reason that I can tell, all of my java related management apps now cease to function.
I get SIGSEGV at befffa6c in /lib/libc.so.6 and I also get it in /usr/X11R6/lib/libXt.so.6.
Things when very smooth in the install, and I did run these apps yesterday without any problems.
Although they are easy to use, I don't really need the GUI java apps, everything works fine from the command line.
I was just curious if anyone else all of a sudden lost the ability to run the java gui stuff.

All the GUI tools work just ONCE for me...After that i need to reboot the system for another GUI tool to work.

Oracle 8.1.7.0.1 on RedHat Linux 7.3

Hi all,
I have successfully installed Oracle 8.1.7.0.1 on RedHat Linux 7.1 about 4 times now, and it works just fine. However, I upgraded to RH 7.3 and I get so far with the Oracle install - when I apply the setup_stubs.sh patch, my svrmgrl binary in the $ORACLE_HOME/bin directory dissapears even though the output messages are OK - I am then left only with svrmgrl0...this applies to other files as well, wrap0, sqlplus0 etc.
I have loaded the 4 libraries to make Oracle compatible with RH 6.2, but this is the first time the patch has failed to produce an updated svrmgrl binary (works fine on RH 7.1). I have edited by .bash_profile just like every other time, so I do not know what is wrong :((
Does anyone have any ideas on this one? It is very weird.

Oracle 9i install hangs in Linux SMP Redhat 7.1

Motherboard: Asus A7M266-D
CPU: Two AMD Duron 1.2GHz
Memory: 512MB PC2100
Vedio: Gforce 4 MX440
hard disk: MAXTOR 6L080L4
O/S: Redhat 7.1
Kernel: 2.4.2-2up and 2.4.2-2smp
I install Oracle 9i on my dual AMD Duron machine. It hangs. If
I am using smp kernel, it stop at the Installation Types Screen
with Status Bar showing 47% complete and 'Setting up install types'.
If I use single single cpu kernel, it stop at the File Locations
screen and the status bar is 95% complete. The installActions.log
does not show any error.
It is the installActions.log when running under smp mode ( I took
out a lot of setting value of PROD_HOME lines):

Yes, I've tried LD_ASSUME_KERNEL=2.4.1 and =2.2.5 to no avail. I have a later version of glibc.

Difficulty installing Oracle 8i 8.1.1.6 on Redhat Linux 7

I am having difficulty installing Oracle 8i 8.1.1.6 on Redhat Linux 7. The installation process runs well and the last stage when the Database Configuration Assistant is running. It successfully copies the database files but when it reaches 80% (Initisialing database) it freezes and does not go any further. Does anybody know what good be going wrong here.

I've been trying to install Oracle 9i version 9.0.1 on RedHat
Linux 7.2 with kernel 2.4.7-10. This RH 7.2 is running on my
Compaq Armada M700 laptop that has 800MHz CPU and 256MB of RAM.
I have 10GB of diskspace on this laptop.
Someone in this group posted a howto on how to install Oracle 9i
on RedHat Linux 7.2 but for some reasons, Oracle Universal Installer
still hangs at 74% of the installation. Here is what I did:
1) Install RH 7.2 on the laptop. I also make sure that make, ar,
ld, nm and C for unix got installed when I installed RH 7.2.
I also verify by using the command "which make", "which ar",
"which ld" and "which nm" and they are also in the /usr/bin
directory. I also make the /tmp partition to be 800MB and
the swap file to be 500MB,
2) Modify the /etc/hosts file. This part is easy. I can ping
both the hostname, FQDN and the IP address of the laptop from
both locally and remotely (tested with SSH connection),
3) Go to blackdown.org and download jdk118_v3
4) Uncompress and put it in the /usr/local/jdk118_v3 directory,
5) Make a softlink ln -s /usr/local/jdk118_v3 /usr/local/java
6) Download and install package:
rpm -Uvh force nodeps binutils-2.10.0.18-1.i386.rpm
7) In /proc/sys/kernel/sem file, I modify the third column from 32 to 128,
8) Download and install package:
rpm -Uvh force nodeps binutils-2.11.90.0.8-9.i386.rpm
9) Download Linux9i_Disk1.cpio, Linux9i_Disk2.cpio and Linux9i_Disk1.cpio
to my laptop hard-drive,
10)Run cpio -idmv < Linux9i_Disk1.cpio (for 2 and 3 well),
11)Create a user account "oracle". This "oracle" account belongs to
group "oracle". Furthermore, I also create a directory /oracle
and change the owner and group permission to account "oracle"
12)Start the installer ( as Oracle User ) by typing ./runinstaller
13)The installer will ask you to run a started script as root ,
you may open a shell and type su then open Nautilus (
if using Gnome or File manager as super user if using KDE )
and drag the noted file to the shell screen and press enter,

I have used Oracle 8.0.5 on RedHat 5.2 well.
But I try to install it on another machine with RedHat 5.9,
and the server halt with segment fault.
Anyone know what is the problem?

We're encountering an issue with installation of Oracle AIA at step 4. This when providing the SOA Server Details, and the managed server shows:
"Cannot Connect to Server" error.
However at the weblogic console, the Admin server and manage server: soa_server1 are running. Please provide us help on this.
For further details, here are the apps and versions we installed:

Oracle E-Business Suite Release 12.1.1 Installation

I have gone through the Guide for installation. If someone could clear one thing that will get me started. In the installation guide its repeatedly mentioned to start the installation with the command "rapidwiz". On page 1-18 of the guide (Oracle® E-Business Suite Installation Guide: Using Rapid Install Release 12.1) it's also mentioned to run the command:

$ cd /u01/StageR12/startCD/Disk1/rapidwiz
$ ./rapidwiz
So far I have downloaded the first two E-business packages and unzipped them.

Oracle E-Business Suite Release 12.1.1 for Sun Solaris SPARC (64-bit) Rapid Install RDBMS 3 disks
I do not see anywhere the command "rapidwiz", moreover I do not see any directory structure in the packages as described above. I need assistance on this part. Is the command "rapidwiz" present in the download packages (I don't see it anywhere) or I am missing something. Thanks...

Performance issues with Oracle EE 9.2.0.4 and RedHat 2.1

Hello,
I am having some serious performance issues with Oracle Enterprise Edition 9.2.0.4 and RedHat Linux 2.1. The processor goes berserk at 100% for long (some 5 min.) periods of time, and all the ram memory gets used.
Some environment characteristics:
Machine: Intel Pentium IV 2.0GHz with 1GB of RAM.
OS: RedHat Linux 2.1 Enterprise.
Oracle: Oracle Enterprise Edition 9.2.0.4
Application: We have a small web-application with 10 users (for now) and very basic queries (all in stored procedures). Also we use the latest version of ODP.NET with default connection settings (some low pooling, etc).
Does anyone know what could be going on?
Is anybody else having this similar behavior?
We change from SQL-Server so we are not the world expert on the matter. But we want a reliable system nonetheless.
Please help us out, gives some tips, tricks, or guides

Thank you very much and sorry I couldnt write sooner. It seems that the administrator doesnt see the kswap going on so much, so I dont really know what is going on.
We are looking at some queries and some indexing but this is nuts, if I had some poor queries, which we dont really, the server would show pick right?
But he goes crazy and has two oracle processes taking all the resources. There seems to be little swapping going on.
Son now what? They are all ready talking about MS-SQL please help me out here, this is crazy!!!
We have, may be the most powerful combinations here. What is oracle doing?
We even kill the Working Process of the IIS and have no one do anything with the database and still dose two processes going on.
Can some one help me?

No harm, your database created just fine, but probably didn't configure listener.ora, sqlnet.ora, and tnsnames.ora. Just run netca and finish the tns confiiguration.

Bug in Oracle lib: popen failed with pthread in Redhat 6.1

Dear Oracle developers,
I need your help on this. I have used c and pthread in Redhat 6.1 and the moment I called popen, it dies. This happens only if I link some Oracle libraries. I am using ProC.
The Oracle libraries in question are
-lsql -L/export/ora01/app/oracle/product/8.0.5/lib -lc -lclntsh -lcommon -lcore4 -lnlsrtl3
I have tested this with very simple pthread
programs from Oreily even. The program dies at the call of popen if I have linked these libraries. Else it will work fine.
If anyone has a solution to that, please let me know. My email is [email protected]

But when i tried with the example provided. I am unable to connect to oracle. it gives the error 0ra-03114 not connected to oracle.
How do i give the host string in oracle or dsn in the programe to connect to the database.

Why can't i start my oracle 9.2.0.1.0 under Redhat linux 8.0??

When i installing oracle, after copying the files, it telled me "install successfully" , but when it in the procedure: "Linking Oracle9i Database 9.2.0.1.0", it stop and auto exit.
But I think i should have installed finish. So I try to start it. As below:
sqlplus /nolog
SQL> connect / as sysdba
ERROR:
ORA-09925: Unable to create audit trail file
Linux Error: 2: No such file or directory
Additional information: 9925
ORA-01031: insufficient privileges
How can I start it?
Is that because I hadn't set the value of "/proc/sys/kernel/sem" before I install oracle? It's original value is "250 3200 32 128", I don't know what it should be under Redhat Linux 8.0.
Can anybody help me?

Using this I was able to get 9201 installed on both SuSE8.1 and RedHat8.0.
On RH8, You have to hand modify the ins_ctx.mk per his instructions and up the value in /proc/sys/kernel/shmmax per his instructions. I did not hit the binutils issue. Other failures are probably missing rpms, as he describes.

Help on installing Oracle 8i release3 8.1.7 in Redhat 7.2

I ran into problems again:=
I followed the instuction at this website:

first I ran the command: # rpm -Uvh /mnt/cdrom/RedHat/RPMS/compat-libs-6.2-3.i386.rpm
to install the 6th RedHat compatibility packages from my Redhat 7.2 second CD,
when I ran the command to install:
compat-egcs-6.2-1.1.2.16, I got this error:=
error: faild dependencies: glibc-devel is neede by
compat-egcs-6.2-1.1.2.16, I searched for it in my both
RedHat 7.2 CD's but I didn't find it.
I continued and installed JDK, and Binutils downgrade.
After I changed the .bash_profile: as he said in his website,
when I reboot and log on as Oracle user I got this error:
bash: /user/i386-glibc21-linux/bin/i386-glibc21-linux-env.sh:
No such file or directory
would you please help !!!!!

ORA-27123 - Oracle 10g 10.1.0.3 on Redhat EL 4 AS Update 3

During the installation of Oracle 10g on Redhat EL,
the Database Configuration Assistant, Creating and starting oracle instance, gave me an error:
ORA-27123 - unable to attachto shared memory segment

I did a clean installation of RHEL4 from scratch, but still the solution you suggested did not work.
Other info:
During pre-requisite checking - oracle alerted me :
- it expected value for shmmax = 2147483648
- it expected package openmotif, it not found openmotif
(in the system exists openmotif21-2.1.33-11.RHEL4.4 and openmotif-2.2.3-9-RHEL4.1 )
I ignored the errors and continued, but i still get the same error:
"ORA-27123: unable to attach to shared memory segment"
