Oracle 8.1.7 on Redhat Advanced Server 2.1

According to this link http://www.redhat.com/oracle_cert/ RH AS 2.1 is certified for Oracle 8.1.7.
But I couldn't find any information about installing oracle 8.1.7 on RH AS 2.1 on the internet.
Could some one help me?
I need step by step installation procedure, because I want to use this configuration in my production environment.

Agi,
I need to do the same thing as you, and have the same question as you. What is your current situation? What you got from Oracle support?
I have experienced installing Oracle 8.1.7 on SuSE 7.3 and 8.0 with quite a few patches. Among others, one ought to install orarun.rpm by SuSE and Oracle patch for glibc as seen elsewhere on Web. I wonder if I have to do the same for RH AS 2.1, because it's released after 8.1.7.
Here is my e-mail addr.
[email protected]
let me know your luck.
thanks

  • Oracle 10g Grid Control Installation On RedHat Advanced Server 3.0

I am planing to install Enterprise Manager 10g Grid Control Release 1 (v10.1.0.3)
on RedHat Advanced Server 3.0. The agent I am trying to download is showing version 10.1.0.4.1. I am not sure iof this agent is going to work with (v10.1.0.3). Pl. let me know if someone has performed this installation. Do I need to apply any patch on OEM and agent.
    Thanks
    Raj

Actually, entirely the other way around, unless you like seeing errors in your OMS.
OMS must be at at least the same patch level as the communicating agents.
    10.1.0.3 agent against a 10.1.0.4 OMS = OK
    10.1.0.4 agent against a 10.1.0.3 OMS = Bad mojo
Download the 10.1.0.4.1 patchset from Metalink and update your OMS, or stick with the 10.1.0.3 agent if you've no access to metalink.

The problem is that 9.2.0.1 is not even certified for Windows 2008, and has been de-supported a long time ago.
This means with respect to this release you are on your own.
Oracle 10.2.0.4 is also not anymore in premier support, so Oracle won't address any new problems.
You may want to switch to 11gR2 or to downgrade the server to Windows XP. Windows XP however is out of support too.

  • Oracle 9i patches for linux 4.0 Advance server

how do i download the required patches of oracle 9i for linux 4.0 Advanced server. I am 9i oracle certified professional. Currently I am not working. how it is possible for me to dowload pathces through www.metalink.oracle.com or is there any other way to get that.
    Thanx in anticipation.

As far as I can tell, the only way to patch Oracle installations for security or flaw updates is to hand-deliver bags of cash to Mr. Ellison. I was excited to see that they now offer a free developer license for the initial install, however, developers need to work with patched versions as well to ensure compatibility.
To anyone at Oracle that may read this: Is there a way for developers to download security and flaw patches without using Metalink? If Metalink is the only option, is it still out of the price range of non-corporate or government entities?

  • Installing Oracle 8i client tools on Windows 2K Advanced Server SP2

I am having issues with installing Oracle 8i client tools on W2K Advanced Server SP2. The CD I have is labeled Oracle 8i Enterprise Edition, Release 3 (8.1.7) Win NT/2000 CSI# 2224188. The error message I get is that a dependency exist on having ORACLE.SWD.JRE 1.1.8.10.0 installed and the universal installer cant find it. The disk has a folder named ORACL.SWD.JRE with a subfolder named 1.1.7.30 which leads me to believe that the version of the file that shipped with this media is version 1.1.7.30.
    Questions:
    1. Why would Larry ship a CD with the wrong version of a file...just venting.
    2. Where do I get the correct version?
    3. How do I install it?
    Any help would be appreciated.

    Oracle8i on PIV
If you have Pentium IV do following: find file symcjit.dll file in the oracle installation folder and rename it to symcjit.old.
try to run setup.exe located in the install/win32 folder.
    Oracle9i on W2K
Install service pack 2 or higher

  • Error ORA-03113 while install Oracle9i r2 on redhat Advance serer

    Hello All:
Can anyone inform me how to correct the error ORA-03113 when I install oracle 9i on RedHat Advance Server 2.1
This error has something to do with setting my CLASSPATH I think.
    Thank YOU
    Ezra Taylor

    Hi,
You don't mention where exactly you were receiving this error but I was receiving this error when doing the database creation via DBCA. I was able to get around this by altering the 'shmmax' parameter. I suspect that the classpath is not the issue in this case, infact I think it should be unset (as well as other things such as JAVA_HOME).
I initially tried the 100Mb specified at this site: http://www.e-gineer.com/instructions/install-oracle9i-on-linux.phtml
However this wasn't enough so I went for the 'loony' option and set it to its maximum value using sysctl as root (see below):
    sysctl -w kernel.shmmax=4294967295
Obviously you probably don't want to leave it at this size and will want to find the appropriate value. (Oracle reccomends half of physical memory - I haven't tried this yet).
    HTH,
    Gareth.

I am trying to install oracle 9i rel2 on red hat adv server 2.1
Installation and Linking looks fine and during configuration ,
the database configuration assistant fails with 'End of Communication channel'.
This makes the software not usable as we get the same error while trying to connect to the database too..
any ideas?Check the "Oracle Installation Errors" section at

  • Windows 2000 Advanced Server Service Pack 2 and Oracle 8.1

    Hy,
I've got Oracle 8.1.6 instaled over an Windows 2000 Advanced Server user as a web server. Yesterday I updated it with the service pack 2 for windows 2000.
When I restarted the server after the install, the Oracle database services didn't start. They stay "Starting" but didn't finish to start. I tried to start them again but they were locked. I couldn't stop/restart them.
I had to uninstall the SP2. Then it works OK.
Is there any known problem with Oracle 8.1.6 and the SP2?
    Thanks

When Oracle installs itself, it usually replaces one or more Windows system files with its own versions. Your SP2 installation probably replaced those files with originals and Oracle got confused.
The only solution I can think of is to install all the necessary SPs first and then Oracle (when possible).

  • Oracle 8.1.7 on Windows 2000 Advanced Server

We have a client that is running the 8.1.7 server on a Windows 2000 Advanced Server. The database service is set to start automatically, but every time the server reboots the database service says that it is started, but when we try to access the database we get a message that says "Oracle not available". After we go into the DBA Studio and manually open the database everything works fine (until we have to reboot again). Are there any known issues with 8.1.7 and 2000 Advanced Server? Is there some configuration setting that we could be missing that will get the database to automatically start like it is supposed to?
Thanks in advance for any help,
    David L. England,
    Software Engineer, AlphaCorp

They are using a static IP and the network was all setup before we installed Oracle. I think we have the local System account starting the service. Is the right to start the database something we need to assign to the local System account or should we be using a different account?
I don't remember ever having to go into the service and change anything on any system we have setup before, but this is the first 2000 Advanced Server we have done.
    Thanks,
    David

Do you have experience installing Oracle db on UNIX? It seems to me that you did not even create a group and user with proper rights. Those shell scripts couldn't run.
