And in the log nmiconf.log in oracle_home/network/log
I see this:

    Problem of method 1 (for re-install the oem agent / dbsnmp)
    When I follow the "work Around Procedure" from
    http://www.puschitz.com/InstallingOracle9i.shtml#OracleInstallationErrors

    It's an OS question, not a VirtualBox question. You didn't state your os, so I'll assume Oracle Linux.
    Google 'set hostname in linux'. There are about a bazillion hits on it.
    I didn't see /etc/hosts
    Where were you looking?

  • OEM:oem agent doesn't start in case of using OS authentication.

    Dear experts!
    I've got 10gR2 and I'd like to use OS authentication (Win 2003 server). Having changed parameters os_roles=true and os_autent_prefix='' and restarted DB I tried to start OEM. Of course, I had an error of starting oem agent - "ora-01045:user dbsnmp lacks create session privilege ..." because of enabling OS authentication. But I don't know exactly how I can change DBSNMP-user from password-authentication to external-authentication. Should I create a new os-user DBSNMP? Or I should just alter existing oracle-user DBSNMP to external authentication?
    Thanks a lot in advance!
    Alexey.

    The first thing to check is that all administrator users have the "Logon as batch job" privilege under Win 2003's Security Policy.

    Open up a console and login as oracle user. Execute these lines:
    $ cd $ORACLE_HOME/network/lib
    $ make -f ins_net_client.mk install
    Then edit the $ORACLE_HOME/ctx/lib/ins_ctx.mk file so that lines 13-14 change from:
    ctxhx: $(CTXHXOBJ)
    $(LINK) $(CTXHXOBJ) $(INSO_LINK)
    to
    ctxhx: $(CTXHXOBJ)
    $(LINK) -ldl $(CTXHXOBJ) $(INSO_LINK)
    Then do
    $ make -f $ORACLE_HOME/ctx/lib/ins_ctx.mk install
    Now you should be able to start your agents with
    $agentctl start

  • Oracle XE occasionally doesn't start correctly

    Hi,
    I have the services OracleServiceXE and OracleXETNSListener set to start automatically and most of the time when I try to connect to the database in the morning after booting up it works fine. However, occasionally I get TNS-12514 or TNS-12505 errors.
    I can tnsping the database and the services appear to be started. In Task Manager I can see oracle.exe running but it is only using ~300KB of memory, which seems low. If I leave it for 30mins the problem is still there, so I don't think it is anything to do with Oracle still loading or trying to sort itself out.
    I've searched for all the log files in the OracleXE directory and alert_xe.log has not been updated at all today but there are logs with the listener and sqlnet errors.
    The good news is that if I restart OracleServiceXE then everything works as normal.
    So this is more of an annoyance than anything else, but if anyone has any ideas why it does this (I've also known it stop working halfway through a day) it would be appreciated.
    Thanks,
    John.
    BTW. I'm running on Windows XP SP2 with Oracle Database 10g Express Edition Release 10.2.0.1.0 - Product.

    Hi John
    The Oracle database and the listerner software works together as follows:
    When the database starts, it (the PMON proces) registers it self with the default listerner. If the database service starts before the listener, then it cannot do this. Try adding an entry in your configuration file for the listener
    $ORACLE_HOME/network/admin/listener.ora
    (you can lookup the syntax in the manual
    Net Services Administrator's Guide
    This way, the listener knows about the database, also when it is started after the database.
    By the way: tnsping only talks to the listener, never to the database, and it only checks if the listener is up and running.
    Hope this helps.
    Best wishes,
    Kennie

    I had the same problem, here is what worked for me and why.
    The root of the problem the that older versions of the 1.1.x jdk don't function properly on a P4. See:
    http://java.sun.com/products/jdk/1.1/download-jdk-windows.html
    Notice they indicate there was a problem running Java 1.1.x on Pentium 4 machines and that JDK 1.1.8_008 has a fix for it.
    The problem is specifically with a file named SYMCJIT.DLL although this isn't clear from reading the java site. The 8i installer includes this file twice, search for it. The version provided with the Orcale installer is older then the one provided with JDK 1.1.8_008 even though if you inspect the properties of these various files they all appear to be the same.
    Download the JDK 1.1.8_008, find this file and replace the installer versions with it and all should be well!

  • 12c management agent on repository server doesn't start following a system crash

    My environment architecture for 12c Cloud Control (Used for personal practice purpose) can be explained as follows:
    @DBSERVER: (OEL6.5, x86-64)
         - 12c Enterprise Manager Cloud Control (EMCC)
         - 11.2.0.4 database that acts as a repository for 12c EMCC
    Monitored host is on a virtual machine (VM12) that is currently in the DBSERVER:
    VM12: (OEL6.5, x86-64)
         - 12c Management Agent that monitors the host and the database (12.1.0.1)
    The server was running fine for the last few months until recently when the computer had rebooted abruptly. Abrupt rebooting occurred a few times in the past, but this time it had an issue at the time of rebooting. The DBSERVER at the time of a startup starts the OMS and the AGENT. The OMS starts perfectly, but the AGENT does not start. Upon trying to start the agent, it shows the following error message:
    [orcl11204g@dbserver bin]$ ./emctl start agent

    The targets.xml file contains the following information which doesn't seem to be of any help:
    [orcl11204g@dbserver emd]$ cat targets.xml
    <?xml version = "1.0"?>
    <Targets>
    </Targets>
    [orcl11204g@dbserver emd]$
    Can anybody provide the help during such circumstances?
    The DBSERVER repository database, listener and oms are up and running while the agent is down. The VM12 database, listener and agent is up and running. Is there any other file that needs to be checked for additional information?

    --> $/AGENT_INST/bin/emctl stop agent
    If agent does not shutdown gracefully then kill all agent background processes by first grepping for agent perl and java processes only
    --> Move your existing target.xml file
    mv target.xml target.xml.old
    --> Create an empty targets.xml file under /AGENT_INST/sysman/emd with the below content
    <Targets>
    </Targets>
    --> Start the agent
    $AGENT_INST/bin/emctl start agent
    This starts agent but without any targets populated in targets.xml
    To discover targets perform agent resynchronization operation from console

    It look like your ASM instance is not yet started. Try the following:
    $>export ORACLE_SID=+ASM (set ORACLE_SID=+ASM if you are on Windows)
    $>sqlplus /nolog
    SQL>startupThen you start up your other instance.
