  • Oracle BI Apps questions, kindly help

    Hi All,
I wanted to checkout the preconfigured reports that come with Oracle BI applications, for this i had download and installed
    OBIEE 10.1.3.4.1
    ORacle BI Applications 7.9.5
    Informatica PowerCenter 8.6.0
    Oracle EBS R12,
Question 1) I see that there is Oracle DAC 10.1.3.4 on the same download page, should i also download that as when i installed oracle BI applications 7.9.5 it installed DAC folder in OracleBI and i am able to access DAC client, so what is the need of separate DAC?.
Question 2) When i installed Oracle BI Applications 7.9.6(after uninstallting apps 7.9.5), there was no DAC folder in oracleBI location, in the guide it said DAC folder has to be present from previous installation, i guesss that means i need to have oracle Apps 7.9.5 installed before i install apps 7.9.6?
Question 3) Is informatica powercenter 8.6.0 compatible with above settings or do i need to install informatica from oracle website, i tried but it takes me to OBIEE download link
    http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/middleware/bi-enterprise-edition/downloads/bus-intelligence-11g-165436.html
    the softwares included are
    Included:
    BI Server Enterprise Edition
    Server Administrator
    Answers
    Interactive Dashboard
    Reporting and Publishing      Delivers
    Office Plug-In
    BI Publisher
    Scorecard and Strategy Management
    Real-Time Decisions
WebLogic Server Standard Edition (restricted use) there is no Informatica in the above list!!!
    thanks for your help,
    regards,

    Hi,
    1) You need to download DAC also to configue the BI apps.you can go through this link for more info
    http://forums.oracle.com/forums/thread.jspa?messageID=5553233&#5553233
    2) You need to install either 7.9.5 apps or 7.9.6 version.....Because both are different that is BI apps 7.9.5 uses informatica....where as BI apps 7.9.6 will use ODI(oracle data integrator) and ODI doesnt use DAC for its installation.
So go for either one of those....i would suggest you to go for 7.9.5
3)Informatica 8.6.0 is compatable with 7.9.5 Apps.Google it to find informatica software.
    Hope your questions are answered.

  • Differences between Oracle BAM and Oracle BI and Question BAM  Data Objects

    Hi,
    I have two questions.
    1. Can someone tell me differences between Oracle BAM and Oracle BI?
My understanding about Oracle BAM is, we use BAM to build Dashboards or Reports.
We can also build DashBoards or reports using Oracle BI.
I am not able to understand why Oracle has two tools for same purpose?
Which tool is more powerful and user friendly(Oracle BI or Oracle BAM)?
    2. Every time we plan to develop Dashboard or report in BAM, we need to create BAM ADC Data Object to store Data (i.e first step is to get data from external database or application and second step is to store data in BAM ADC data object).
My understanding is we have an extra step(i.e creating Data Object) in Oracle BAM to develop a report or DashBoard
I am wrong pl correct me?

  • Oracle 9iAS installation question-oci.dll error

    Hi all
I have a question about 9iAS installation. Can we install 9iAS in NT??. I downloaded from the site, installation for NT. While installing I get error like "could not write oci.dll error"..I'm installing the portal and wireless type and I have my Oracle9i database installed on the same machine. Can anybody suggest how to rectify this error.
    Thanks a lot

Are you trying to install in the same Oracle Home directory as the database? You should install in a different OH. Furthermore, 9iAS itself also installs in 2 OH's. You will end up with 3 OH's.
It is not a good idea to install the database and 9iAS on the same server, unless you have a really big one.

  • Oracle XE Functionality Question

    Hello,
I am here trying to get the opinion of Oracle XE users regarding a project I am considering.
Currently, my employer uses Access databases, with the master on a corporate server, and 4 slaves on local servers at warehouses. At each warehouse, there are probably 10-30 new records created per day by 2 or 3 users at each location, which get synced to the main at the end of each day. Any changes that need to be made at the corporate level get synced and sent on to the warehouse as needed.
Besides sending out these changes, the corporate office will also add 40-50 records per day. Information is also pulled for reports- seemingly pretty normal Access tasks. I don't know the exact stats, but each backed up copy of the DB is less than 100mb, so it's not a huge system. (It's for keeping track of inbound and outbound shipments, carriers, locations, etc.) There are probably 6 users at this location.
So the question I have is, would XE have the functionality to at least cover these tasks, and possibly more. (What more is at the moment, I do not know.) My own preference would be to grow into Oracle DB, but if the Access functions cannot be replicated, we would probably move on to something else, so I thought I'd ask for current user experience.
    Thanks for your time.

    Hi,
I think application running on XE and Apex suits for your current situation perfectly.
And if system gets bigger you can get license of "full" Oracle database and upgrade.
Using single database server and web application everything is "online" and you do not need transfer any data end of day.
XE 10G database comes with Apex 2.1. That Apex version is quite old.
But you can upgrade Apex to latest one.
    http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/developer-tools/apex/overview/index.html
There is coming XE 11G that ship latest Apex and features that 10G do not have.
You can also save more user data to XE 11G. But I assume XE 10G 4GB limit is enough for you.

I did find this blog that is actually running on XE and Apex

I think you can not run blog application on MS Access =)
Also I think Oracle database have much more features than Access, specially with Apex.

  • Oracle 10g installation questions

    Hi,
I tried to install Oracle 10g (Enterprise Edition) on Windows 2000 server, and encountered the following error when I used the Database Upgrade Assistance to ugrade one of my existing Oracle 8 database TEST.
ORA-01658: Unable to create INITIAL extent for segment in tablespace USERS.
I searched the forum, and seems that there is not enough space for my USERS tablespace. Is it the right solution?
If I clicked Ignore for the above erro, another error appeared:
ORA-00942: table or view does not exist.
I don't have table or view in TEST database, it is just a database instance created by Oracle 8. Do I have to create tables or views in order to upgrade it to Oracle 10g database?
I tried to upgrade an existing Oracle 8 database TEST1 which has data in it, and got the following error:
ORA-01119: error in creating database file D:\oracle\oradata\test1\sysaux01.dbf.
ORA-27044: unable to write the header block of file.
One last question is that after the failing of the DBUCA, I was told that the 10g was successfully installed on my server while no orcl database was created even if I chose
to create a database orcl during my installation.
The following are services running for 10g after the installation.
    OracleCSService Started
    OracleOraDb10g_home1iSQL*Plus Started
    OracleOraDb10g_home1SNMPPeerEncapsulator
    OracleOraDb10g_home1SNMPPeerMasterAgent
    OracleOraDb10g_home1TNSListenerLISTENER10 Started
Anybody has any idea what went wrong?
Your early reply is greatly appreciated.
    Jane

    I believe the answers are:
    1. the Oracle client needs to be the same bits as the TimesTen server. i.e. if you have 64b TimesTen, then you will need 64b Oracle client. If you have 32b TimesTen then you will need 32b Oracle client.
    2. Yes. I believe you can install 64b TimesTen with 64b Oracle client and connect this to a 32b Oracle server. I dont have any idea about performance overhead of this configuration.

  • Oracle 10g Install Question

    Hi All,
I have to install oracle 10g onto a server where there is existing oracle 9i software.
Is it safe to go ahead with the install, while the 9i databases are up?? what are the consequences of doing this?
OS patches and kernel parameters as required for oracle 10g have already been changed.
10g is being installed into a different oracle home and i would choose not to overwrite any of the files as asked by root.sh script.
    OS is hp-ux 11i (11.11).

    Hi,
    Thanks for your reply.
Sorry for not being clear in my question earlier.
I am planning to install Oracle 10g on a server with existing 9i software. My question is whether we should shutdown all 9i databases for the duration of the install or we can leave them running as long as we do not overwrite any 9i files including files in /usr/local/bin directory that contains oranev etc...
To be on the safer side it is always recomended to shutdown any oracle instances running before we start the install. Wanted to know the consequences if we have them up and running for the duration of the install.
    Thanks & Regards

  • Easy ORACLE RAC 11g question....

    Hi everyone.....
Im new at this .... I've setup using VMware a 2 node cluster that works fine... 11g
Im planning to move our production database that is currently 10g ...
Heres the question... Is it possible to run a 10g instance on 11g RAC... without an upgrade??
Its 11g compatible to run 10g instances?

Your instance is mapped with oracle database. You installed oracle software first then create a database.
If you upgrade your database to 11g then your instance will be 11g. Instance is oracle memory structure and background processes. Actually we upgrade oracle binaries and oracle database.

  • Oracle BI general Question

    Hi guys,
I am a certified and experienced PL/SQL developer and I want to switch to Oracle BI. Starting to look over the Internet for the documentation, I was quickly overwelmed by the multitude of tools Oracle provides. Basically what I identified as being the top packages are OBIEE, OBISE and Oracle Business Objects. As I am part of a firm that is also quite new at this, but can addres both types of customers (big and small), could you please tell me which one of these packages is better to start with (taking into consideration the market trend and what you`ve experienced)? Can you also please summarise the basic difference between these packages, or provide me with a relevant link, where these products are presented in comparison?
Any help you can provide will be greatly appreciated,
    Thanks a lot,
    Marius.

The future of Oracle Business Intelligence is moving away from Oracle Discoverer to OBIEE. There are many different tools that you can see in the Oracle Business Intelligence section of edelivery.oracle.com including BI Publisher, OBIEE, OBIA, Hyperion, etc.
You are asking this question in the Oracle Business Intelligence Applications (OBIA) forum, which is a subset of Oracle's total BI offering. You may get a different response posting in the OBIEE forum (http://www.rittmanmead.com/category/bi/).
You can start by reading the data sheets for BI at:
    http://www.oracle.com/solutions/business_intelligence/index.html
Also, Mark Rittman is an Oracle ACE Director with an extensive BI blog.
    http://www.rittmanmead.com/category/bi/
In the end, what you work on is what the customers are deploying. If you used to work with Oracle Reports, I would get started with learning how to design and customize reports and dashboards in OBIEE and Bi Publisher. If you work in the ERP space, then look into customizing and extending OBIA.

  • Oracle BAM Authentication Question

We are facing a strange problem related to Oracle BAM authentication and I'd like to ask for opinions or suggestions.
    - We have a BAM Server called MYSERVER
    - MYSERVER is a Win2003 and BAM was installed using MYSERVER\Administrator account
    - We have a domain called MYDOMAIN
    - MYSERVER is part of domain MYDOMAIN and this domain is registered in MYSERVER as a trusted domain.
    - We have four user groups created in domain, not in bam server:
    1) MYDOMAIN\bamAdmin
    2) MYDOMAIN\bamArchitect
    3) MYDOMAIN\bamDesigner
    2) MYDOMAIN\bamUser
    - In Windows 2003 we added the following users to the groups below:
user MYDOMAIN\adm was added to group MYDOMAIN\bamAdmin
user MYDOMAIN\arch was added to group MYDOMAIN\bamArchitect
user MYDOMAIN\des was added to group MYDOMAIN\bamDesigner
user MYDOMAIN\usr was added to group MYDOMAIN\bamUser
    - In Administrator>Login Management
We didn't create login for users, only groups just described:
    MYDOMAIN\bamAdmin
    MYDOMAIN\bamArchitect
    MYDOMAIN\bamDesigner
    MYDOMAIN\bamUser
    - In Administrator>Roles Management
We selected each Role and added the following groups
    Administrator > MYDOMAIN\bamAdmin
    Report Architect > MYDOMAIN\bamArchitect
    Report Creator > MYDOMAIN\bamDesigner
    Report Viewer > MYDOMAIN\bamUser
    - After that, we return to Administrator > Login Management to review groups
There is an yellow question mark indicating bam cannot validate this login in domain controller.
This login is not currently known to be a valid login.
We click in one of the described groups, such as
    MYDOMAIN\bamUser
And then in "View Roles" link.
    We receive the following message
ADC Server exception in GetUserGroups(): 3.
    Source: "ActiveDataCache" ID: "ADCServerException"
Logon failure: unknown user name or bad password
    Source: "Oracle.BAM.Common.Core"
Sometimes we get: "Network path not found" and finally we get this message:
"The account used to run the Oracle BAM Active Data Cache does not have permission to retrieve the list of groups for this user. Contact your network administrator."
    - If MYDOMAIN\usr that was added to group MYDOMAIN\bamUser try to access BAM Viewer module or bam home page (http://myserver/oracleBam), he receives the same error in welcome screen.
    - User MYDOMAIN\usr can login to MYSERVER server in domain MYDOMAIN, so server recognizes the domain and user.
    - In Windows NT Alert Viewer we have several errors/warnings registered, telling that BAM could not validate user/login and also "RPC Server Unavailable" errors.
    - I tried changing ADC Service user credentials to MYDOMAIN\Administrator, but ADC Service didn't start anymore, so we have to reconfigure to MYSERVER\Administrator.
    - In ADC Log we have several messages indicating BAM could not validate user:
2008-01-22 17:26:11,875 [User Validation Thread] WARN - ActiveDataCache Caught exception while validating user MYDOMAIN\usr: Logon failure: unknown user name or bad password
And when we changed credentials to MYDOMAIN\Administrator we got messages indicating bam stores some type of key/encrypt information by user who installed product (MYSERVER/Administrator):
2008-01-22 16:49:16,062 [1484] ERROR - ActiveDataCache DPAPI was unable to decrypt data. CryptUnprotectData failed. Error -2146893813: Key not valid for use in specified state.
Somebody may point us what could be wrong, perhaps a tip or doc about WINDOWS/BAM auth integration?
Metalink has few information about that, such as Note: 412555.1, but from network view it seems to be correct because we may log on MYDOMAIN\usr to MYSERVER successfully.
Bam could integrate to NT user authentication seamlessly, but it seems to me that it's harder and tricky than we thought.
    Any ideas?
    Thank you in advance,
    Rogério

    Hi,
Windows services running as local user can not do domain user authentication (even when machine is on that domain)
You will need to change ADC Service user credentials to MYDOMAIN\Administrator. If you just do this only in services, service wont start because the database passwords in config files are encrypted as original user and can not be decrypted by new user.
See "Working with Post-Install Password Changes and Password Expiration Policies" in the BAM Install Guide (In chapter 3 under Additional Configuration Settings) to change the config files. And also add MYSERVER\Administrator to BAM Administrator group before change.
The easiest may be to just reinstall as user MYDOMAIN\Administrator.
    Thanks
    Ranga

  • Oracle Warehouse Builder Question about Process Flow

    Oracle 11.1.0.7:
We currently have various mappings and what we want is in process flow to fork and merge back and only if all those mappings are successfully completed then go further in the process flow. I see that it allows fork for parallel processing but there is no merge. So how do I merge them all back and go to the next step in process flow. Next step of process flow is dependent on successful completion of all the previous mappings. And we want all the previous mappings to be executed in parallel for performance reasons.

Could someone help answer my question?

  • Oracle Block Size - question for experts

    Hi ,
For years i thought that my system block size was 8K.
Lately due to an HPUX Bug i found that the file system block size is gust .... 1K
(HP DocId: DCLKBRC00006913 fstyp(1m) returns unexpected block size (f_bsize) for VXFS )
    My instance is currently 10204 but previously was 7.3 --> 8 --> 8174 --> 10204.
Since its old instance its block size is gust 4kb.
We are planing to create new file system block size of 8k.
The instance size is about 2 TB.
Creating the whole database with 8 kb is impossible since its 24*7 instance.
Do you think that i sould move gust few important tables to a new tablespace with 8k block size , or should i leave it with 4 kb ?
    Thanks

Given that your Oracle Database Block_Size (4K) is a multiple of the FileSystem Block_Size (1K), there should be no inherent significant issue, as such.
Yes, it would have been nice to have an 8KB Oracle Database Block_Size but whether you should recreate your FileSystems to 8KB is a difficult question. There would be implications on PreFetch that the OS does and on how the underlying Storage (must be a SAN, I presume) handles those requests.
A thorough test (if you can setup a test environment for 2TB such that it does NOT share the same HW, doesn't complicate PreFetches in the existing SAN) would be well adviced.
Else, check with HP and Veritas support if there are known issues and/or any Desupport plans for this combination ?!
Oracle, obviously, would have issues with Index Key Length sizes if the Block Size is 4KB. Presumably you do not need to add any new indexes with very large keys.
Having said that, you would have read all those posts about how Oracle doesn't (or really does ?) test every different block-size ! However, Oracle had, before 8i, been using 2K and 4K block sizes. Except that the new features (LMT, ASSM etc) may not have been well tested.
Since you upgraded from 7.3 in place without changing the Block_Size, I would venture to say that your database is still using Dictionary Managed and Manual Allocation and Segment Space Management Manual ?

  • Oracle Business Rules Question

    Hi,
I'm pretty new with Oracle Rules. I've had no trouble using them, to date. I define Java classes, set up the facts in Rules Author, and create the Dictionary, Ruleset, and rules... etc.
I can run them fine, and the technology works as expected. My question is... what if my underlying data structures for the facts (the java class(es) in my case) change?
From what I see with the Rules Author tool, there isn't an obvious way to sync up the underlying fact with events on the ground. I can see there would be a really good reason for not allowing attributes/methods/props to be removed (without redoing (some of???) the rulesets/rules)... but I am really interested in the ability for adding methods/attributes/etc to the underlying structures without rework.
Here is my use case: I set up an initial fact and a ruleset for our clients with which to build rules. They add 500 rules. They now request the "fact" include another "new" attribute to be available in all new rules. Do I have to start over, and redo the 500 rules to accommodate the new attribute? There must be something which eases the pain... but I haven't found it yet.
Any help in this issue would be most appreciated!
    Thanks,
    Dan

Thanks for the reply. I guess I was making it more difficult than it deserved. I've been trying to "re" import... and never tried to import over the fact I already had.
    Thanks!

  • Oracle on VMS question

    Hi,
At the steel company I work at, We are starting to look at implementing a new ERP (i-Renaissance). We are seriously considering having the DB on oracle. We are thinking on having it on Windows or perhaps Unix. Some other people here are considering having it on VMS.
I am asking the broad question of the for and againsts of oracle on VMS. I am asking the question with 3 aspects in mind.
    - Reliability of the DB on VMS
    - Cost of the VMS implementation vs. windows. (license, OS and hardware)
    - Support for potential issues (both from oracle and from community such as these forums)
What about RDB. Should we consider it?
Please keep in mind that we are at the beginning of this decision process and that I am new to oracle. I need to make an informed decision on this.
    Best wishes to all!

Well thank you so far for the replies.
Currently where I work we have a bunch of windows servers for most of everything we need. Our aging ERP system is VMS/ALPHA based (the alpha is 12 years old I think). We will have the ERP company come and migrate us to the new system.
Some people here think (since that is what they know), that the DB and application server for the ERP should all be on VMS/ALPHA. I do not reject VMS outright, but I too have doubts about VMS's future although I KNOW it is a solid OS. I also wonder how long will Oracle develop the DB on VMS.
So definately we will consult with the ERP company for advice on those matters.
So my question boils down to: if running the DB and aplication on windows is a viable option for the ERP should I say no to VMS based on the cloudy future of the OS???
Also will the VMS server performance be similar to a windows server(s) solution provided we get a new alpha???
What about cost of the 2 solutions?
What about support in case of issues with the DB? Should I be worried about this on a VMS based DB?
Thanks so far for the replies, It is helping my thought process.
    Later!
