Oracle 8i Client installation

I am having a problem setting up and configuring the client to access the Oracle 8i Server.
I have installed the Oracle8i Server on a NT Machine "GIS0". I am now trying to install the client on "GIS20".
After installing Oracle on the server "GIS0". I created a database called dbtest.gis on "GIS0". I then performed a loopback test on the server and it passed this test. So on the server I can access the database with the statement "sqlplus scott/[email protected]". I have also tested the server install using Net8.
I am having problems confguring the client. TNSPing works and the client "GIS20" is able to ping to "GIS0". But the test using Net8 is failing on the Client. When I try to execute "sqlplus scott/[email protected]", it gives me a connection time out - TNS12535. In some cases it gives me a TNS12560 error. So I tried increasing the connection time out on the server to 600 secs( 10 mins). But I am getting the same connection time out problem.
I have checked the tnsnames.ora and the sqlnet.ora files on the client and these files seem to have the connect string and other config info. Also when I check the listener.log file on the server "GIS0", I can see that the client "GIS20" has established contact successfully to "GIS0".

I am running my DB on an NT Server. An the DB is 8.1.6. My client is also a NT machine.
When I use Net 8 Assistant to configue the client and after I test it I get the following error:
TNS -12535 - Connection time out
There may be Error in the fields you have enetred or the server may not be ready to accept a connection.
When I look at the listener.log on the server, there is always a connection recorded whenever the client has contacted the server.
Please let me know if you have a solution to the problem. I will try and look at the Sqlnet.ora file and see if anything changes.
