Oracle 8i DB Cache
Hello -
I am running Oracle 8i on Sun Solaris. I have determined that my Cache Hit Ratio is very low - 54%. What can I do to increase this to > 95%?
Thanks in advance.
I dont think so nowaday any one gives importance to hit-ration for improving or measuring database performance. If you have reasonable buffer size, then, dont worry about. Take the stats pack and analyze the report for bottle neck looking at top 4 wait events (now called timed event from 9i onwards).

String Status2=null;
String Status;
while(Staus.equals("I")||Staus.equals("R")||Staus.equals("P"))
try{
try
Thread.sleep(1000);
} catch (InterruptedException e)
System.out.println("eroor in am thread block");
String Query ="select phase_code,status_code from fnd_concurrent_requests where request_id=?";
PreparedStatement stmt = getOADBTransaction().createPreparedStatement(Query,1);
stmt.setString(1,requestid);
ResultSet resultset= stmt.executeQuery();
if (resultset != null)
while (resultset.next())
if (resultset.getString(1) != null)
Staus = resultset.getString(1); // here to fetch the column from the query
Status2=resultset.getString(2);
catch(SQLException exception)
//Incase of any error while running the query throw an exception.
throw new OAException("Error in Query"+ exception, OAException.ERROR);
return Status2;
here iam checking phase code of the programe ,f it is C iam returning the status to variable in CO.it is taking one hour time to complete to get the status code :C
in the application,program is runnig but after getting "C" also the progres is still running. i closed the session and opened again and it is giving following error:

Oracle 11g result cache and TimesTen
Oracle 11g has introduced the concept of result cache whereby the result set of frequently executed queries are stored in cache and used later when other users request the same query. This is different from caching the data blocks and exceuting the query over and over again.
Tom Kyte calls this just-in-time materialized view whereby the results are dynamically evaluated without DBA intervention
http://www.oracle.com/technology/oramag/oracle/07-sep/o57asktom.html
My point is that in view of utilities like result_cache and possible use of Solid State Disks in Oracle to speed up physical I/O etc is there any need for a product like TimesTen? It sounds to me that it may just asdd another layer of complexity?Oracle result cache ia a useful tool but it is distinctly different from TimesTen. My understanding of Oracle's result cache is caching results set for seldom changing data like look up tables (currencies ID/code), reference data that does not change often (list of counter parties) etc. It would be pointless for caching result set where the underlying data changes frequently.
There is also another argument for SQL result cache in that if you are hitting high on your use of CPUs and you have enough of memory then you can cache some of the results set thus saving on your CPU cycles.
Considering the arguments about hard wired RDBMS and Solid State Disks (SSD), we can talk about it all day but having SSD does not eliminate the optimiser consideration for physical I/O. A table scan is a table scan whether data resides on SCSI or SSD disk. SSD will be faster but we are still performing physical IOs.
With regard to TimesTen, the product positioning is different. TimesTen is closer to middletier than Oracle. It is designed to work closely to application layer whereas Oracle has much wider purpose. For real time response and moderate volumes there is no way one can substitue TimesTen with any hard wired RDBMS. The request for result cache has been around for sometime. In areas like program trading and market data where the underlying data changes rapidly, TimesTen will come very handy as the data is real time/transient and the calculations have to be done almost realtime, with least complications from the execution engine. I fail to see how one can deploy result cache in this scenario. Because of the underlying change of data, Oracle will be forced to calculate the queries almost everytime and the result cache will be just wasted.
Hope this helps,

Hi, I am not a newbie to OAF. I have worked good amount on the OAF 9i development. Currently we are on R12.0.4 and Jdev 10g (patch 6908968) But this error really beats me. I believe it could be due to a Apache error, but may be I am doing something wrong here and so hopefully you can provide me some insight. I am trying to configure my JDev 10G for R12 development. I am trying to run supplied HelloWorld page in Tutorial.jpr. I have set the DB connection and provided the username/password with responsibility key and also the DBC file in the Runtime Connections properties for the Project. I have also tried the alternative i.e building a custom HelloWorld, but even with that I get the same error.
Please let me know if I should be doing anything else.
Thanks and appreciate your help.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------I did thought it was a DBC issue before, so I requested the DBC file again from the DBA's. I try the page and get the same error again. This time I looked at the DBC and compared the JDBC string with what I have on the TNSNames. The server name on the DBC file provided to me was slightly off. So, that was the error. The dbc file had imbcdd-d as the server name, whereas in the TNSName it was imbcdd-b. I fixed the DBC and reran and there it goes I get the HelloWorld Page.
Thanks a bunch to all. I should have it investigated more. Apologize for the siilly post.

Oracle 10 Connection Cache (another question)
Hi all,
We have a large web app which currently uses JRun connection pooling. This is causing some problems so we'd like to try the Oracle Connection Cache mechanism. The thing is, each time a client gets a database connection, it runs a connection factory which looks up the datasource with jndi then creates the connection. So, in order for the Oracle 10 Connection Cache to work, do I need to change the logic so the datasource is static & we just do the look up once & set the cache-related properties at that point so every connection uses the same datasource object? This seems to me the way to go.
Thanks very much,
Jim GreethamPerfectly Yes. If we try using Oracle's own Cahceing mechanism, it is out of our control. But if we custom deploy our own cacheing mechanism according to our need like you said, we need to develop our own codes using ojdbc6 driver available from Oracle.

Unix buffer cache vs oracle database buffer cache
1. What difference between operating system buffer cache and oracle buffer cache?
2. In what case, oracle is using oracle buffer cache? in what case, oracle doesn't use buffer cache instead of using OS buffer cache.
I am confused about this concept.
Appreciate any help.

S.I am not sure that where is the confusion. Oracle's buffer cache would be an inevitable since whatever would be accessed in the oracle database , would have to go through the buffer cache. Though this can be bypassed as well but that's only for a specific purpose. If you won't be using the buffer cache, how else the data would be given to the end user? It has to go through the buffer cache since the data is retrieved not just for one time access but for the future access as well. And the buffer cache stores that data for the future requests also.
The o/s cache is , well, for the o/s. So once the buffer leaves from the oracle ecosystem, it would be there. What exactly you want to compare between two and why here?

Oracle.Apps.Jtf.Cache.Cacheloadernotfoundexception error
Hi,
I am just testing my Jdeveloper environment on a fresh 11.5.10.1 environment. I can run test_fwklabsolutions.jsp OK but when I try to select any option - like HelloWorld I get the error
Oracle.Apps.Jtf.Cache.Cacheloadernotfoundexception.
Note 302183.1 says this is because by JDEV_USER_HOME env is not set correctly. As far as I can tell it is set fine. To C:\jdev\jdevhome\jdev
Anyone seen this before?2 Hrs, mind blowing, really difficult to achieve :)
I still feel that there is some setup issue with your settings. How are you connecting to your apps instance? is it local? Which page are you running? Look into the information in the log window for anything strange.

Hi Guys,
I was experiencing a Oracle.Apps.Jtf.Cache.Cacheloadernotfoundexception which searching the forum points you over to as a solution Oracle.Apps.Jtf.Cache.Cacheloadernotfoundexception error However, After implementing the work-around discussed I am now experiencing the same slow performance. Its just taking too long to access the page and debug it.
Yes, my database is remote (over VPN) but I'm using a fast broadband connection and if I can download a 1 gig file in less than 20 minutes, I'm just a little confused as to how saying "its remote" causes any problems. After all I'm also using sql developer on the same remote database so saying "because its remote" isn't really an answer that explains anything.
Simply waiting for ever and a day isn't really an option for people who need to get development done. We are all busy people.
Does anyone actually know why performance is so bad when removing these options or why the original error is caused?
Everything was working fine in my project until I came across this error and had use the suggested fix in order to even be able to see my page.
Thanks
KrisHi Kris, how are you?
I'm experiencing the same performance issue that you had a lot of time ago. I was wondering if you managed to solve it or if you had to get used to it.
Looking forward for your answer.
Thanks in advance!

Starting Embedded OC4J Server is been displayed in the status bar. Also when a OA Framework page is getting opened, huge lines of codes and messages will be shown in Embedded OC4J Server Tab, but here nothing is shown than TIME: runregion: initialization [16 ms] .
Please help in figuring out this,
Thank you,Nothing much can be done, if you don't have vpn type of tool in performance.Moreoever,to pick latest class files it is necessary to bounce local jdev oc4j server, every time you make a change.
Most of the time it do takes latest class files, but sometimes it not, so don't know how u will manage it, because in ur case every time u terminate the server... to restart it will take another 40 minutes.
