Oracle 8i DB creation

Hi All,
When Installing Oracle I9AS, Do I need to have an Oracle 8i installation?
Can I just configure the DB created in the I9AS installation process and access it from a client like I do with a 8i DB?
Thanks in advance,
Agustin

The Oracle9i Application Server
Installation Guide says: 'The Oracle Database Configuration Assistant creates a database that is used as a
container for Oracle 8i JVM.'
The question is if either I can use this DB as a 'regular' DB -create listener, services and connect to it using jdbc or whatever- or I have to install the Oracle 8i 8.1.7 suite.
Thanks in advance,
Agustin

    Asif,
    IMO, the OP wanted to have steps given to him for the database creation , not the installation of the software.Not sure though since the wording chosen by him is not very clear.
    @OP,
    If you are looking for the database creation steps , the best would be to use DBCA! Other than that, you may want to look at the manual way of doing the same, given over here.

    That said, if you were looking for the installation instructions, please look at the link given by Asif.

  • ORACLE NEWBIE - table creation

    I currently use MySQL, but I am starting work on an application which runs on Oracle 8i. I am in the process of learning 8i, but for now I would like to work on the application in MySQL (since the API is database independant). Is there an easy way to dump the SQL table create statments from the Oracle instance (ie. is the a function equivalent to mysqldump on MySQL)?

  • Oracle 12c workspace creation

    Hi all!
    How can I create APEX workspace referencing to local user (Oracle 12c)? APEX_040200, ANONYMOUS, XDB, APEX_PUBLIC_USER is comon users by default, but HR and so on are local. What should i do?

    Hi Andrey,
    To assist in resolving your issue, could you please provide some additional information in relation to your installation.  As part of your 12c configuration, and with APEX 4.2 installed in your container database, how have you configured your new pluggable database (PDB) i.e. using EPG or APEX Listener or Oracle HTTP Server, as outlined in the 4.2. Installation Guide for 12c? The reason I ask is because, if you're using EPG, for example, each PDB will have a distinct port number and you'd need to ensure that the URL you're using to access the APEX Administration Services is the correct one.
    My colleague, Jason Straub, has posted a number of blog postings relating to APEX and 12c, as well as a link to a chapter in the Installation Guide for 4.2 with 12c, which you might find helpful.

  • Need Help | Oracle UCM 11g | Creation of new layout

    Hi All,
    This is regarding the problem we are facing to create a new layout and skin. We followed all the steps that were needed to create a new layout/skin but still we are getting errors after deploying the component. Since there were major changes in 11g, we are not able to proceed with debugging as well. (part of the reason being code clean-up is not done properly and we are going to wrong files while debugging.)
    Having said, I need your help/advice in solving my problem. Below are the problems I am facing once I deploy the component.
    1) Even though I am mentioning that skin.css and layout.js should be published from “publish/resources…” folder, different skin.css and layout.css files were getting deployed. Not sure from where the content server is picking those files from. I am placing the skin.css and layout.css from TopMenus/Trays to continue my testing.
    <tr>
    <td>publish/resources/layouts/NBNTrays/layout.js</td>

    <td>60</td>
    <td><$if isLayoutEnabled("NBNTrays") and (not DisableNBNTraysPublishing)$><$doPublish = 1$><$endif$></td>
    </tr>
    2) After the component gets deployed and we publish all static files, I am able to change the layout/skin to my custom layout/skin. Top menus is working fine, but in Trays layout I am not able to see the left navigation.
    3) Though I am saying to copy all the images from resources/trays folder, component is copying only some subset of images from the corresponding folders.
    <tr>

  • Install of Oracle 10g on RHEL 4 AS (newbie)

    This is one the toughest installs I've ever done. I'm new to Oracle so bear with me. I'm trying to install Oracle 10g on a RHEL 4 AS system. I started out installig on a RHEL 5 sever but felt that I might be in over my head since it wasn't certified for RHEL 5.
    I've successfully installed Oracle 10g on a RHEL 4 AS machine. During my installation I used the "Advanced & Custom" install. I selected this option to install software only. I wanted to learn the implmentation of Oracle and the creation of databases. I'm now trying to start the Oracle/DBMS service and the listener. I've been tyring to get isqlplus to work via the Mozilla browser but I've not been able to login. I enter in the following url "http://oracleserver:5561/isqlplus". I receive the logon screen asking for a usename and password. I don't recall entering in a username other than the default of "dba" and a password. Is this what I should be using on this screen? I'm also being asked to enter in a "Connect Identifier" what does this mean. I don't recall entering in a "Connect Identifier" as part of the installation? When I enter in the "dba" username and password I get the following message:
    ERROR - ORA-12162: TNS:net service name is incorrectly specified
    What does this mean and what should I be entering?
    I was successful at getting the listener to start.
    I'm I having problems becuase of my installation process of "Advance, Custom, Software Only". My expectations where that a template database would be created and I would be able to use a GUI interface going forward to configure the system. Very much what you would see when installing SQL 2005 in a Windows environment.
    Please work with me to get things working. I really want to learn this.
    Thanks

    When you perform the install software only, it means so, Software Only. So no database template, no default environment. You'll have to define this on your own. It could be by means of dbca or manually.
    isqlplus could start, but it doesn't have any database to connect to. The username/password and database service you are being prompted are the connect descriptor to an existing database and a database user/password. At this time none of them exist.
    I could tell you, you are doing well, your listener and isqlplus are properly working, so next step, create your database.
    As stated above, just issue the dbca command from the os prompt and go through the assistant.

  • Ora-12154 after creation of second database

    DB 10g ver 10.1.0.2.0
    OS Windows server 2003 32bit +sp1
    Summary:
    Due to the addition of extra storage to the server I decided to rebuild from scratch, and all was working correctly until I came to create a second database on the server, once this is created I get ORA-12154 errors at logon for both databases.
    Full:
    Installation of Windows and Oracle are fine, creation of the first database also works correctly and connection is without problems e.g sqlplus user/pass@database1 allows me to logon.
    On creation of the second database the same command: sqlplus user/pass@database1 or sqlplus user/pass@database2 gives me an ORA-12154 error.
    If in the command prompt window I set ORACLE_SID=database1 then try sqlplus user/pass it connects without problems, the same for database2, although sqlplus user/pass@database1 still fails.
    I have checked tnsnames.ora, all looks fine, I used the net configuration assistant to generate the entries and used the connection test to verfiy all was ok, both connection tests worked fine.
    I can tnsping both database1 and database2 and lsnrctl status shows
    Service "database1" has 1 instance(s).
    Instance "database1", status READY, has 1 handler(s) for this service...
    Service "database1XDB" has 1 instance(s).
    Instance "database1", status READY, has 1 handler(s) for this service...

    I have searched through back posts and the web and as yet have not been able to find how to resolve this. Any pointers or ideas as to why I cannot use the sqlplus user/pass@database to connect?
