  • Oracle Instant Client for Intel MacOS X

Hi all, this is my first post here (so I don't know if it's the proper place, but to try it is free. Sorry for any inconvenience).
Anybody, can confirm/explain why, one year after launch, there isn't one available download of Oracle Instant Client for Intel MacOS X?
Without it's impossible, for example, to compile PHP with OCI support under Intel MacOS X (native mode) and it's really a pain.
With PPC version existing since ages, wouldn't be absolutely easy to recompile that cool stuff for Intel MacOS X?
TIA and ciao, Eloy Lafuente :-)

    Hi again...
just to know a bit more... two months later... how is customer demand going...?
Have you searched for "macos x instant client intel" ?
    Aren't PHP/Perl/Ruby applications enough?
I sincerely think it's a big mistake to don't offer native connectivity for MacOS X Intel users... of course, your mistake.
Some developers, like me, will stop developing/improving Oracle support in their applications just because they use MacOS X to develop. So, those applications won't run ok under Oracle, no matter where you deploy them.
With thousands of applications running natively under MacOS X Intel... isn't there (@ Oracle) able to recompile that tiny piece of software to run under Intels... sorry but I cannot believe it.
I'll email SJ right now! Ciao :-)

My Oracle Support ... and only if you have a paid-up support contract.  Actually, I'm not sure 9i would be available even then.  10g is only available to those with a paid-up sustaining support contract.  9i is so old (hasn't been supported in this millennium) I wouldn't be surprised it is not available at any price.  Further, I doubt it was ever certified for RHEL 5.  Hard to tell since the documentation isn't even available .....
Just out of curiosity, why would you be needing such an antique?

  • Oracle 11g R2 for Sun Solaris???

When will be release the version for Sun Solaris?
Is there any way to check the release date for each Oracle version? (e.g. 10.2, 11.1, etc)

Well if you check at this link http://www.oracle.com/technology/software/products/database/index.html
You will see that 11.1.07 is for Windows ServerActually, you might note that it is for Windows Server *2008*. OS qualifiers are fairly important. Sentences may sort of trail off to noth
What you download from the freely available site, and what is the current version with patches applied is often a different thing.
The freely available 'for learning and prototyping' downloads (from the site you mention) are NOT updated to a new patch level. (If necessary, they may be revised to fix bugs that stop them for being installed, but they keep the same point level.)
If a version of the OS is released after the s/w has been made available, and there are problems installing or using that combination, Oracle MAY decide to fix, apply patch set and and make available the s/w for that specific OS.
And if you are waiting for 11.2 because you don't have Support and can't get 11.1.0.7 patch, then I express concern for your management's approach. Missing CPUs and other patches is not a good idea for production.

  • ORACLE 9i Download for Windows XP Home EDITION

    Hello,
I downloaded Oracle 9i then when i try to install I am getting following error
Error: 'Setup.exe is not a valid WIN32 Applications'
    Please help!
    Regards,
    Reddy

I can only comment on the database installation. Oracle has now supported 9i for XP professional (no previous versions will be supported). XP home will NOT be a supported platform for Oracle products.
NOTE: There is a bug with 9i installations that the OUI will fail if the CLASSPATH has been set by installations from previous Oracle installations. Before installing 9i you will need to clear the CLASSPATH and then proceed with your installation. Once the installation is complete you can restore the CLASSPATH with your original settings.

I had the same question and this is what I found on the next page(s):
You have to install Personal 8i for Windows 98.
However, do the following before you begin to install: modify your WIN.INI file, in section [Compatibility95], adding Jew=0x00080000. Reboot your system and install.
I found this out, so I have not tried it myself.
Please confirm if it works. I will do too.

Refer readme for patch 4547809 on MOS.
Section "12 Patch Set Components " - table entry "Oracle Client required support files " confirms that this patch can be applied on 9.2.0.x client installation.
There is no sentence indicating the same in 9.2.0.8 readme (which is there in any 10.2.0.x readme).
