Oracle 8i EE Solaris 7 install problem

Install 8i(8.1.7) with minimal(or typical) option. Everything went fine until it stalled at step "initializing database" during creating a startup db, with error message "ORA-03114, not connected to Oracle". I ignored it, and then it comes with another error "ORA-27101: shared memory realm does not exist". Anyway, database creation fails.
I have searched the newgroups and found a few similar messages but no formal answers
were found. By the way, I applied all OS patches and made sure pre-install setup. Strangely, I did the same install on the machine with Oracle 8.1.5 without problem.
Any idea ? Thanks
null

seems which the PROCESSES parameter of init.ora changed in 815 -> 817 from 50 to 150
so the kernel parameters in /etc/system cannot be suficient large to startup the database, I has the same problem and increasing the parameters which affect the PROCESSES in init.ora, solved it

I searched the forum and I noticed a couple of similar issues where the build cannot find the server lib. I have tried some of the suggestions like changing the direction of the backslash '/', but thiese errors persist.
Also the second error (91) refers to 'arg2="${db.demoUser.password}"/>' in the build.xml, which is the demo user PW specified in the build.properties. So I don't understand why this would create an error since this PW is already specified. Also these errors are still the same whether I enter the correct admin password or an incorrect admin password.
Any advice is greatly appreciated. Thanks, J

  • Solaris install problems on Ultra10/300

    Hi all.
I'm having a bit of an issue installing Solaris 9 on my Ultra 10. I issue the boot cdrom command, the solaris installer starts at openprom, then gives what looks to be a kernel dump, and the system reboots. I've had this issue on an Ultra 30 as well, and haven't any idea how to get around it. I have Solaris 10 (I think Sun is calling it Solaris Express) installed on the Ultra 10 now, although, at first, it gave me the same errors.
Any thoughts or ideas would be welcome,
    Thanks,

  • ORA-27102: out of memory. Faild to install oracle 10gR2 on Solaris 10

Hi, I want to install oracle on my solaris machine. I have 2.5G RAM and more than 5G swap file. But the ORA-27102: out of memory error occurred at installing the Oracle Database Configuration Assistant step(Copying database files Creating and starting Oracle instance).
    The only warnings bellow:
    Checking kernel parameters
Checking for BIT_SIZE=64; found BIT_SIZE=64. Passed
Checking for shmsys:shminfo_shmmax=4294967295; found no entry. Failed <<<<

Checking for semsys:seminfo_semmsl=256; found no entry. Failed <<<<
Check complete. The overall result of this check is: Failed <<<<
Problem: The kernel parameters do not meet the minimum requirements (see above).
What's the reason and how may I resolve it?
    Thanks!

I set some kernel parameters like: set shmsys:shminfo_shmmax=4294967295 and so on. Restart the computer and run dbca+ and configure in advance mode. There's a stage require the size of flash_recover_segment of which the default size number is 2048M. WOW, out of memory on my pc of course.
So I think it's the parameter value during the installation progress bring on the ORA-27102 problem. However, during the first installation, there's no prompt for me to enter the parameter; or I didn't see.

  • Solaris 8 Install Problem - Partition(s)

First, I am a relative "newbie" when it comes to SUN Solaris and System Adminstration, though I know enough UNIX to be dangerous (read "get me into trouble" - hahaha).
I tried to do an "upgrade" to the O/S (2.7) on my Ultra 5, but when doing an "initial install", the system will only allow me to set the partitions/slices manually at the cylinder level. Any attempts to do so have failed, as I keep getting an "overlapping cylinder" error message, regardless of how I try to setup root, /usr, etc. The Solaris 8 O/S setup swap as follows:
    Starting - 3275 Size - 1110
FYI, I was trying to do the install using the Solaris 8 CDROM, Solaris build date 2/02.
Overall, I appear to be having a lot of issues with the Seagate Medalist ST34321A (4.1 Gbyte) drive that came with my Sun Ultra 5. The drive appears to work correctly, but an attempts to "wipe out" the drive (reformat) have not met with success.
Any suggestions anyone can provide regarding the install problem would be appreciated.

If you are trying to Upgrade to Sol 8 it is strongly suggested that you do not use the Installation CD. Use CD 1 of 2 with a boot cdrom. You will have to answer the sysid questions and then should get prompted for Initial Install or Upgrade. If you do not get the Upgrade prompt then there is a problem with your original Sol 7 system. Things like nfs mounts in vfstab, links to /var/sadm/patch, pkg or install/contents.
An Upgrade should not be asking you to lay out filesystems. It should use your existing ones.

  • Solaris 10 install problem (requested image to big to fit into memory)

I have just downloaded the iso images and burned to disk. When I go to install I get the message (Requested image to big to fit into memory Error 28) I have 1.5GB so I don't understand the problem. Thanks in advance
It took a long time for me to figure out, but the answer is disable in BIOS memory hole at 15M to 16M. This solved the install problem with Open Solaris and quite a few more such as not being able to install Linux Zenwalk 5.0 or openSUSE 10.3. Their are others also problems I have had with Linux or UNIX that this took care of. JGZ

    Hi,
I had been able to solve the Error 28 issue that in my case was really related to a corrupted boot image:
    1. I went in the path /a/platform/i86pc
    2. rm boot_archive.
    3. sync
    4. reboot
At this point the OS will notice the absence of the boot_image and it will regenerate it.
At the time of this operation the CD with solaris 10 was inserted in the CDROM.
When the system restarted it was able to load the OS properly.
Please use these information at your own risk. I do not accept any liablity.
    Cheers
