Oracle 8i Enterprise install
I recently purchased the OTN Internet Server track (NT). I am installing Oracle 8i Enterprise on NT 4.0 Server (standalone/workgroup). The problem is the Universal Installer is stuck around the 37% in progress bar. I left it overnight. It is not locked. I can move mouse around and I see the animated image (moving meteor around a globe) on top left corner. Thus it seems to be alive but it is not moving farther along. I have 10 GB free space and virtual memory setting is 2 GB (2048 MB). I have 98 MB RAM. I did not find any forum that was suitable for this problem reporting. 8iLite seems to be the closest match, hence posting in this forum.
Thanks,
Ganesh ([email protected])
I assume, you tried the full-installation of Oracle 8i EE. As long as you have (I'm sorry to say this) only 98MB of memory, you have to choose the 'minimal installation'. After you finished this, you can countiniue installing other parts of Ora EE.
I hope this will help you.
Best regards.

Oracle 8i Enterprise Install Error
I installed (successfully) Oracle 8i Enterprise edition on my NT 4.0 SP5. I then confused matters by installing Oracle 7.3.4 Enterprise Manager on the same machine. Realizing I made a mistake - I tried to uninstall Enterprise Manager - but got a LOT of errors. So I cleaned out the registry - uninstalled Oracle 8i, and tried to re-install 8i.
I then received the following error while re-installing 8i: ERROR: The type of data stored in the registry is different from the type returned by this query.
I can no longer perform a "clean" uninstall - and re-install as the release notes suggest, the database instance will NOT start up.
Please help?? Thanks, --DanHi,

How can i install Oracle 9i Enterprise version on Linux 7.2
Hi friends,
I m not able to install the oracle 9i enterprise DBA on RedHat linux 7.2. Can anybody guide me how to do it in correct way. Cuz i feel that i m not doing in right way and there is someother way of doing it ?
Thanks in advance
Manmeet SidhuI know this isn't a RedHat admin forum...but one of the most important things is an up2date set of system packages. It is my opinion that the RedHat Network Updater (up2date) should always be used to keep your kernel, bin-utils, glibc, gcc, etc files up2date...they fix issues all the time that help in relinking (making) files, as well as fixing security problems and increasing platform security.
That said, the version of bin-utils, glibc, kernel and gcc that I have installed Oracle 9i release 1 on RedHat 7.2 is:
kernel-2.4.9-31
binutils-2.11.90.0.8-12
glibc-2.2.4-24
gcc-2.96-98
Here is the documentation I followed:
http://www.puschitz.com/InstallingOracle9i.html
and here is a good discussion thread on an installation:
http://www.orafaq.com/msgboard/unix/messages/821.htm
I did not (and do not) recommend downgrading the bin-utils ... just update the $ORACLE_HOME/bin/genclntsh file and relink...
Also, if installing Oracle 9i Release 2 on RedHat 7.3, see this thread concerning the ins_ctx.mk error

Installing Oracle 10g enterprise edition on Win XP professional
Hello everybody,
I have the LAN's ip address set to 192.168.0.5 during installation. In addition, I'm using WiFi to connect to the internet at the same time - is this going to cause a confusion on the host ip because I have LAN and WiFi turned on? I have read the documentation but some are a bit technical for me to understand. So I got some questions below that I need to clarify.. because I'm getting the ORA-12514: TNS:listener does not currently know of service requested in connect descriptor error when I try to log in to sql prompt after supplying the username, pass, and host string that worked a few days ago. I was even able to logged into http://compName:port/em but now I can't.
1. What else do I need to configure after I installed 10.2 enterprise edition on a win xp professional?
2. Do I need to install the oracle companion cd if I just want to learn the basic of sql?
3. Do I still need to configure the windows loopback adapter (is it only applicable for oracle companion cd installed)?
Oracle 10.2 Enterprise Edition
Win Xp professional
No Loopback adapter configured
LAN ip set to 192.168.0.5 and subnet mask to 255.255.255.0
Thanks.Just check the host name is properly configured on your hosts file
- Sorry. Is the host name the computer name defined in the Control Panel -> System -> Computer Name? Where is the host file located?
it is advisable to have your fully qualified host name along the single host name configured there too.
- Which one should be the qualified host name?
I've checked my listener.log file in C:\oracle\product\10.2.0\db_1\NETWORK\log and it seems like the port changes to another value every less than a second.

[email protected]Another method to solve this problem:
0. Be sure you have not installed another JVM which version is less than 1.2 on your machine.
1. Copy all files & folders on the installation CD into a temporary folder
2. Search all symtjit.dll in that folder & its sub-folders
3. Rename all found files to another name, like symtjit.dl~
4. Run the setup program in that folder

Installing Oracle 8i Enterprise Edition on NT Workstation
I got an error: "An error during runtime." when I try to install Oracle 8i Enterprise Edition (8.1.6) on a Windows NT Workstation Machine, could anyone tell me why it happens?
ThanksYou can set up the Enterprise Edition on either, and you can create databases with either.(The Oracle installation program installs the scott/tiger example databases.) What I haven't tried, and what you probably need the server version for, is an actual server running a real commercial database. If you are just a student and want to run EE to learn it, go for it. That is what I am doing.

Install oracle BI enterprise edition to use it with siebel marketing
Hi guys.
I want to install the Oracle BI Enterprise Edition in order to use it (Segmentation) from Siebel Marketing.
To ensure the correct cooperation, between oracle BI and siebel Marketing, i have to follow some particular procedure?? or i can install Oracle BI normally and after set correctly some parameter in siebel marketing/oracle BI??
If the answer is PARTICULAR...... WHAT??
Thanks in advance.
Best reguards
AntonioFor the OBIEE platform itself it's irrelevant whether you use Siebel Marketing or not. The differences are
a) within Siebel - i.e. the administration screens
b) within the BIEE rpd - i.e. the Marketing metadata objects
ad a) Here's the official documentation: "Siebel Marketing Installation and Administration Guide"
[http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/B40099_02/books/MKTG_InstallAdmin/booktitle.html|http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/B40099_02/books/MKTG_InstallAdmin/booktitle.html]
ad b) In the Administration Tool, go to "Manage" -> "Marketing". Here you'll find the four object types:
- Target Levels
- Qualified List Items
- List Catalogs
- Conforming Dimension Links

Get error while Integrating with Oracle's Enterprise User Security
Hi,
I am trying to create an Oracle Enterprise User integrating with OVD and MS Active Directory.
I am following all the steps in Integrating with Oracle's Enterprise User Security.
In the documentation section: "Configuring Oracle Virtual Directory for the Integration"
I have applied the steps successfully until:
Update and load the entries into the Local Store Adapters by performing the following steps:
I have successfully extended the Oracle Virtual Directory schema with the loadOVD.ldif
However I am getting errors in the next step: Update realmRoot.ldif to use your namespaces
The next step states the following:
Update realmRoot.ldif to use your namespaces, including the dn, dc, o, orclsubscriberfullname,
and memberurl attributes in the file. If you have a DN mapping between Active Directory and
Oracle Virtual Directory, use the DN that you see from Oracle Virtual Directory.
The realmRoot.ldif file is located in ORACLE_VIRTUAL_DIRECTORY_HOME/eus,
where ORACLE_VIRTUAL_DIRECTORY_HOME represents the location where Oracle Virtual Directory is installed.
The realmRoot.ldif file contains core entries in the directory namespace that Enterprise User Security queries. The realmRoot.ldif file also contains the dynamic group that contains the registered Enterprise User Security databases to allow secured access to sensitive Enterprise User Security related attributes, like the user's Enterprise User Security hashed password attribute.
Load your domain root information in the realmRoot.ldif file into Oracle Virtual Directory using the following command:
ldapmodify -h Oracle_Virtual_Directory_Host –p OVD_Port -D cn=admin -w Admin_Password -v -a –f realmRoot.ldif
When I run the ldapmodify command I get the following error:
add dc:
testldap
add objectclass:
top
domain
domainDNS
adding new entry DC=testldap,DC=local
ldap_add: Operations error
ldap_add: additional info: LDAP Error 1 : null
The actual realmRoot.ldif looks like this:
# Please uncomment the following one line if you are importing this

#objectclass:topDid you ever get your questions answered about the realmRoot.ldif file? Did you manage to configure a successful integration of OVD with EUS? I am battling with trying to get Oracle Virtual Directory integrated with Enterprise User Security, but every step I take in Chapter 7 of the OVD manual fails in some way, and the instructions are often vague. I am not sure how to modify the realmRoot.ldif file. Is there any improved documentation on this? I have logged a Service Request, but not getting any help. Any resources or documentation you know of that provides better guidance would be much appreciated. I am way behind my schedule now and this is a very frustrating exercise.

"In-Memory Database Cache" option for Oracle 10g Enterprise Edition
Hi,
In one of our applications, we are using TimesTen 5.1.24 and Oracle 9i
databases (platform - Solaris 9i).
TimesTen holds application information which needs to be accessed quickly
and Oracle 9i is a master application database.
Now we are looking at an option of migrating from Oracle 9i to Oracle 10g
database. While exploring about Oracle 10g features, came to know about
"In-Memory Database Cache" option for Oracle Enterprise Edition. This made
me to think about using Oracle 10g Enterprise Edition with "In-Memory
Database Cache" option for our application.
Following are the advantages that I could visualize by adopting the
above-mentioned approach:
1. Data reconciliation between Oracle and TimesTen is not required (i.e.
data can be maintained only in Oracle tables and for caching "In-Memory
Database Cache" can be used)
2. Data maintenance is easy and gives one view access to data
I have following queries regarding the above-mentioned solution:
1. What is the difference between "TimesTen In-Memory Database" and
"In-Memory Database Cache" in terms of features and licensing model?
2. Is "In-Memory Database Cache" option integrated with Oracle 10g
installable or a separate installable (i.e. TimesTen installable with only
cache feature)?
3. Is "In-Memory Database Cache" option same as that of "TimesTen Cache
Connect to Oracle" option in TimesTen In-Memory Database?
4. After integrating "In-Memory Database Cache" option with Oracle 10g, data
access will happen only through Oracle sqlplus or OCI calls. Am I right here
in making this statement?
5. Is it possible to cache the result set of a join query in "In-Memory
Database Cache"?
In "Options and Packs" chapter in Oracle documentation
(http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/B19306_01/license.102/b14199/options.htm
#CIHJJBGA), I encountered the following statement:
"For the purposes of licensing Oracle In-Memory Database Cache, only the
processors on which the TimesTen In-Memory Database component of the
In-Memory Database Cache software is installed and/or running are counted
for the purpose of determining the number of licenses required."
We have servers with the following configuration. Is there a way to get the
count of processors on which the Cache software could be installed and/or
running? Please assist.
Production box with 12 core 2 duo processors (24 cores)
Pre-production box with 8 core 2 duo processors (16 cores)
Development and test box with 2 single chip processors
Development and test box with 4 single chip processors
Development and test box with 6 single chip processors
Thanks & Regards,
VijayHi Vijay,
regarding your questions:
1. What is the difference between "TimesTen In-Memory Database" and
"In-Memory Database Cache" in terms of features and licensing model?
==> Product has just been renamed and integrated better with the Oracle database - Times-Ten == In-Memory-Cache-Database
2. Is "In-Memory Database Cache" option integrated with Oracle 10g
installable or a separate installable (i.e. TimesTen installable with only
cache feature)?
==> Seperate Installation
3. Is "In-Memory Database Cache" option same as that of "TimesTen Cache
Connect to Oracle" option in TimesTen In-Memory Database?
==> Please have a look here: http://www.oracle.com/technology/products/timesten/quickstart/cc_qs_index.html
This explains the differences.
4. After integrating "In-Memory Database Cache" option with Oracle 10g, data
access will happen only through Oracle sqlplus or OCI calls. Am I right here
in making this statement?
==> Please see above mentioned papers
5. Is it possible to cache the result set of a join query in "In-Memory
Database Cache"?
==> Again ... ;-)
Kind regards
Mike
