ORACLE 8I Installation in Red Hat 6.0

Two questions about the installation:
1. How do I set up the Kernel parameters such as SHMMAX, SEMMNI in the RedHat Linux 6.0? This is the first requirement in ORACLE 8I installation.
2. How do I mount the CD? When I use mount /dev/cdrom /mnt/cdrom to mount the CD,
all the filenames are in upper case.

I would suggest checking out the RedHat site as they have several whitepapers/HOWTO's that will step you through rebuilding your kernel. Search on "Custom Kernel".
As far as the files names showing up in all caps....I have not seen this before and off the top of my head I'm not sure what could cause this problem. Good luck!

  • Oracle 9i installation on Red Hat Linux 9 URGENT

    hi,
    I live in london, I have tried a lot to install Oracle 9i Enterprise edition on Red Hat Linux 9, but couldn't do it, can any one help me to install it, I am ready to pay and visit any place in london for that purpose in the evening, if any one can help my mobiel number 07832 077672
    best regards

    If you are only trying to learn, I would recommend either Fedora FC4 or OpenSuSE 10, and I would recommend installing ORacle Express Edition if you do not need advanced Oracle stuff (or you are not learning for OCP).
    Again, use Werner's excellent site - http://www.puschitz.com or Ivan Kartik's site - http://ivan.kartik.sk/oracle/install_ora9_fedora.html to get good instruciton on installation.
    If you want a free version that is as close to a supported Linux as legally possible, consider using WhiteBoxLinux.org, TaoLinux.org or CentOS.org linux. These are clones of RedHat Enterprise (the one that is supported). Or you could contact Novell.com and ask for an evaluation kit for SLES9.

  • Oracle 10g Installation on Red Hat Linux

    Hi
    I am trying to install Oracle 10g (Downloaded from Oracle Site) in a Linux Installation. I have checked with the following command about the Linux Version
    # cat /etc/issue and the output is :
    Red Hat Linux Release 7.1 (Seawolf)
    Kernel 2.4.2-2 on an i686
    Then I am giving #uname -r and the output is
    2.4.2-2
    Now Oracle Installation Guide for 10g for Linux is saying that
    if the errata level is less than 25 on x86 system then install latest Kernel Updates.
    Please Let me know from where I can get the Latest Kernel Updates appropriately and what I need to do to put that patch into Linux so that I can smoothly install the Oracle 10g.
    Thanks and regards.

    Jer is absolutely right.... just changing the values in oraparm.ini to reflect your kernel distribution will work for you.
    For example the file contains:
    [Certified Versions]
    Linux=redhat-2.1,UnitedLinux-1.0,redhat-3
    now to add your linux into it just check your version by issuing the command #uname -r
    in my case the output was "2.4.20-8smp". I just appended redhat before this value and entered in the oraparm.ini file.
    The new ini file looks like:
    [Certified Versions]
    Linux=redhat-2.1,UnitedLinux-1.0,redhat-3,redhat-2.4.20-8smp
    [Linux-redhat-2.4.20-8smp-optional]
    TEMP_SPACE=80
    SWAP_SPACE=150
    MIN_DISPLAY_COLORS=256
    Now you are all set to install. I assume that all other pre-requisites have been fulfilled.

    Hi Terry,
    I initially experienced the same "connection refused" message as

    My problem was to do with logging on to X as root (to mount the
    CDROM) and then switching to the oracle account to do the

    If I logged to X as oracle I didn't need to change the default
    DISPLAY value of :0 .

    these RPMs are not installed. how i proceed further. do i download these RPM from google.
    plz reply
    regards

    9i is not supported and certified to run on RH5.
    If You need 9i, then install it on RH4.
    but regarding package installation - if You have support agreement and are using redhat network then simply use yum utility.
    If You have somewhere rpm packages (install media or somewhere else in the networt), then
    rpm -ivvh package.rpm - this command will install package
    rpm -Uvh package.rpm - this one will update if You already have some older version of package.

  • Oracle 10g database installation in red hat 5

    what are the packages needed for oracle 10g database installation in red hat 5?
    what do you mean by yum way of installation?

    Check on the release notes for your platform
    This is for x86-64 Linux.. read it all, then you'll find the "6 Documentation Corrections and Additions" section you'll find the RPMs that you need
    http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/B19306_01/relnotes.102/b15666/toc.htm
    then go to the official doc installation of 10gR2 on x86-64 Linux
    http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/B19306_01/install.102/b15667/toc.htm
    Yum is a package management tool. This is what you'll be using to install the RPMs. But first you'll have to setup the Yum repository, usually what I do is stage the DVD media on the server then make it as a repository. If ever there's a specific (higher) version that I need then I just pull it on the RedHat Network.
    There are a lot of HOWTOs about Yum. You may read on this link http://docs.fedoraproject.org/yum/en/

  • How to install Oracle 10g on to Red Hat Linux 5 Server

    I'm new to both Linux and Oracle. I've been working on an installion of Oracle 10g on a Red Hat Linux 5 Server for about 2 weeks. I've been doing a lot of reading about installing Oracle on a Linux environment. I finally got to the installation portion and the Oracle Installer displayed a message that I had to have Red Hat 4 or 4 Enterprise to continue.
    How can Install Oracle 10g onto a Red Hat 5 Linux Server"? Is there an option that I can use to bypass the OS checking?
    Thanks

    Unfortunately there is no way to access metalink without a valid account. You could then just try to skip preinstall requisites with this clause:
    ./runInstaller -ignoreSysPrereqs
    or this method:
    Copy the oraparam.ini from the installation source install/oraparam.ini to /tmp directory.
    Edit the file /tmp/oraparam.ini so this file reads:
    After
    [Certified Versions]
    Linux=redhat-3,SuSE-9,redhat-4,UnitedLinux-1.0,asianux-1,asianux-2,redhat-5
    also, make sure you have these packages installed:
    # rpm -ivh gcc-c++-4.1.1-52.el5.i386.rpm gcc-4.1.1-52.el5.i386.rpm
    libstdc++-devel-4.1.1-52.el5.i386.rpm glibc-devel-2.5-12.i386.rpm
    glibc-headers-2.5-12.i386.rpm libgomp-4.1.1-52.el5.i386.rpm
    libXp-1.0.0-8.i386.rpm compat-libstdc++-296-2.96-138.i386.rpm

    HI,
    According to Oracle "Unix Installation/OS: RDBMS Technical Forum", it is not supported.
    I am pasting the final answer from one of the Oracle Analyst: (Hope it is OK)

    Hi,
    AS of now Oracle Server - Enterprise Edition Version 9.2 is not certified on Red Hat 8.0.

  • Uninstall oracle 10g from Linux Red hat

    is any body know the standard procedure to uninstall oracle 10g from linux red hat.

    The correct answer is "Undo the changes you made during the install"
    By this I mean:
    Stop all of the processes
    Delete the ORACLE_BASE directory (usually the one one level up from ORACLE_HOME)
    Delete the oraInventory directory if it isn't inside ORACLE_BASE
    Delete /etc/oratab, /etc/oraInst.loc
    Delete /user/local/bin/coraenv, /user/local/bin/oraenv, /user/local/bin/dbhome
    Undo any environment settings you may have modified (in .bash_profile and bashrc)
    That should be just about it. That's how I usually clean out my system between installs.

    Try installing 9i on RH 7.1. I don't believe 9i runs under 7.2 due to library incompatibilities.
