Oracle 8i installation on SUSE Linux 7.0 and 8.0

I have not been able to install Oracle 8i (8.1.6) on SUSE linux 8.0 as well as 7.0. The Universal installer starts but stops after showing a lot of messages. Any suggestion/help?

The configuration of my machine is: Intel P3 733 MHz on Intel 815 original motherboard, 256MB RAM, 40 GB Harddisk

I am trying to install Oracle 9iR2 on SuSE 9.0
All pre-Installation Setup was done like i saw on Suse web pages (create Oracle-User, oinstall-usergroup etc.)
I login as root-user on the system and open a shell session (localy) as oracle user with :: sux oracle :: command.
I started runIstaller and got the welcome windows from oracle Installer. i can click on each button but the button next is not reacting so that i could go to the next window. Can you please tell me why the installer is not properly working?

you have to unlock the numpad key on your keyboard.

  • I installed Oracle database 10g on SuSE Linux Enterprise Server 8 edition.

I installed Oracle database 10g on SuSE Linux Enterprise Server 8 edition.
But this massage pop up when I used my browser first time before start database.
Actually when I clicks on yes to start database.
The web browser you are using is not optimized for this release of Oracle enterprise manager. It is recommended that you use one of the following:
    * Microsoft Internet Explorer version 5.5, 6.0 or higher
    * Netscape Navigator version 7 and higher
    *Mozilla version 1.3.1 and higher
Dose any one know hoe to upgrade mozilla or install internet explorer 5.5, 6.0 or higher or SLES 8.
    Regards,
    D

You can download package for your distribution (for example) from http://www.mozilla.org or directly from SuSE ftp server ftp://ftp.suse.com/pub/suse/i386/9.1/suse/i586
IE for linux does not exist.

  • Problem installing Oracle 9.2 on RedHat Linux 7.1 and 9.0

    Hi everyone,
As the subject line says, I tried installing Oracle 9.2 on
RedHat Linux 7.1 and 9.0, strictly following instructions
    written by Werner Puschitz
    (http://www.puschitz.com/InstallingOracle9i.shtml). Both
    attempts failed with identical symptoms:
    - the installer asks for Disk 2
    - after the disk is inserted, it hangs. It turns out that
kernel is writing messages similar to these in
    /var/log/messages:
    Jun 16 02:45:19 boston kernel: 16:00: rw=0, want=317696, limit=149920
Jun 16 02:45:19 boston kernel: attempt to access beyond end of device
Unless interrupted, this continues until the /tmp filesystem gets full.
Has anyone experienced this? I haven't been able to find
    an explanation so far.
Any help would be much appreciated.
    Regards,
    Ljubomir Buturovic

Providing a thread-bare configuration of your machine on which you are trying to install Oracle on Linux (and mind you - which kernel/distro, coz that's important) would definitely help you elicit more responses to your messages.

  • 9i and 9ias installation on SuSE linux 7.3

    Hi,
Are there any known issues involved in installation of 9i
    and 9ias on SuSE linux 7.3 ??
Also please let me know what are the workarounds for those
problems and where the patches may be downloaded from ??
I am asking this question because SuSE 7.3 is not yet

  • Oracle9i Installation on SuSe Linux 7.3 Professional Edition

    Hi,
I'm trying to Install Oracle 9i Database server on SuSe Linux 7.3 Professional Edition. I have gone throgh the Oracle 9i release notes for the Linux version. In the release notes document, in the OS Software Requirement section ( the following statement is mentioned as below ):
"The following executables must present in the /usr/bin directory : make, ar, ld, nm"
But after the Linux insalltion I found that only make executable is present and other doesn't. My doubt is, if I continue with the Oracle Installtion without these files does the installer cause any problems? If so how do I get these executables, as these executables doesn't exist in the "Software Installation" listing of SuSe 7.3 Professional edition?
Another doubt is, Does SuSe 7.3 Professional edition suitable for Oracle 9i Database server? I checked the Kernal version, it seems to be OK.
    Please help.
    Thanks in advance

  • Oracle 9i installation on SuSE 7.3 freezes

    Hello-
just tried to install Oracle 9i on my SuSE 7.3 Linux box. After
the software installation I tried to create a new database
with "dbca", but when Oracle starts to create the database it
freezes the whole system. I can't even move the mouse cursor
    then.
    What's wrong?
    Thanks in advance.
    Wojtek

Some screensavers on KDE on SuSE 7.3 freezes; Oracle9i behaves
erratically on my incarnation of 7.3 during installation. I've
had it lock up the session, log off the session, and tank the
whole computer. All while trying to install the database
    product.
I have not tried the various tips and such found here yet.
Most Linux installations allow multiple window managers,
selectable at logon; perhaps any KDE issues can be circumvented
by using a less complex wm...?

I would realy appreciate some help as I am not a Linux expert.

    Hi Markus,
    I don't know what exactly getImportedKeys/getExportedKeys do.
I suppose it's some kind of select on the data dictionary views.
The reason for the slow performance could be miss-configuration
of Oracle or a very large number of objects (say more than 20000
    tables).
I could advice that you check there's nothing else in the SYSTEM
    tablespace than the data dictionary.
    U could use:
select * from dba_segments where OWNER not in ('SYS','SYSTEM')
    and TABLESPACE_NAME = 'SYSTEM';
I could recomend that you set shared_pool_size to 100MBytes, and
    db_block_buffers*db_block_size to 100MB.
    Hope this helps,
    Best regards,
    Michael
P.S. it could help if you publish some of the SQL statements that
    are slow.

    Hi Sudheer,
I am sorry but I guess you are using the wrong versions here
SAP does not support SUSE11 and also Java version should be 1.4.2.....
SAP only supports SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 10,SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 9,SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 8
Refer to SAP notes 171356 for SAP on Linux
    1172419 for Java versions
    These are highly useful
Let me know if you need any other info.

If you have SAP OSS access, then please browse through service.sap.com/instguides --> SAP Business Suite --> ERP --> ERP 6.0

Hard to tell. I am leaning toward operator error as many of us have installed 8i, 9i 10gR1 and 10gR2 on Windows XP with latest service packs, online updates and AV protection with no issues.
Are you installing form a DVD or a downloaded version?
Did you do a checksum on your download if you downloaded?
Do you have at least 2 GB of permanent Page file (swap)?
Did you already create the loopback adaptor?
    http://download-west.oracle.com/docs/cd/B19306_01/install.102/b14316/reqs.htm#i1005703
Did you review the installation logs to see what the root cause of the error was?

G.3 Reviewing the Log of an Installation Session
During an installation, Oracle Universal Installer records all the actions that it performs in a log file. If you encounter problems during the installation, review the log file for information about possible causes of the problem. By default, the log files are located in the following directory:
    SYSTEM_DRIVE:\Program Files\Oracle\Inventory\logs
Log filenames from interactive installations take the form:
    installActionsdate_time.log
For example, if an interactive installation occurred at 9:00:56 a.m. on October 14, 2005, the log file would be named:
    installActions2005-10-14_09-00-56AM.log
