Oracle 8i Installation problem on Windows 2000

I had purchased a Oracle8i (MS/Windows NT CD (E-Commerce), part Number A94674-01 in the month of Jun 2000.
When I tried to install Oracle 8i personal edition of Windows 2000 ver.
The installation got completed smoothly. But after that I was not able to start my database and even Windows 2000 crashed after that. After every crash I reinstalled windows 2000 and oracle 8i but the result was same. My whole purpose of purchasing Oracle 8i on windows 2000 is getting defeated.
I would request you send me solution what to do ? Or replace my Oracle S/W. Its useless for me right now.
My M/C configuration is
Dell P-III (256 MB, 300 Mhz) with sound card.
20 GB Hard Disk of 7200 rpm.
The primary O/S is Windows 98.
The Hard disk is partitioned into no. Of logical drives.
They are like 2GB of each (C, D, E, F) and G 10 GB
C part ion has got Windows. And G has got windows 2000. There is enough space in all part ions.
I would appreciate if you can solve my problem as soon as possible.
Sincerely,
Shekhar

Intel says there is a bug in oracle's OUI as well other swing based programs. The solution is to copy the CD to local drive and add -nojit as first parameter to JRE_MEMORY_OPTIONS e.g. JRE_MEMORY_OPTIONS="-nojit -mx32m"
This will enable OUI to run. Even after installing oracle Net80 conf. asst won't start due to same reason.
Go to HOME\admin\tools\ and edit netca.cl and netasst.cl to add same -nojit before -classpath.
Do this for every tool that gives this prob such DBA studio...

This resolved my problem as well. I am on Windows 2000 server, SP2. The problem installing Oracle 8.1.7.0.0 standard edition exhibited itself by briefly changing the cursor to an hourglass and then returning to ready. The executable JREW.EXE would briefly execute in processes and then stop.
I copied the installation media to a server drive and renamed symcjit.dll and the installer worked correctly.
Thank you to Yugandhar for this solution.
We too faced some of those problems ie setup.exe wont even run in Windows XP pro, p4 system..the culprit is symcjit.dll. Its the problem in p4 to run this dll. After lot of research, just rename it and all is set to go.

  • Installation problem on windows 2000

    Hi,
    Please help!
I've been tring to install oracle on windows 2000 machine unsuccessfully. the setup program aborted without error message. I've tried many versions of oracle database, 8.1.7 all editions, 8.1.6ee, 9iAS. the only message error I got when 9iAS failed to install (iSetup.exe). the problem seems to be with the java runtime environment. the jre 1.1.7 came with 9iAS would not run properly. I've tried to install java2 and jdk1.1.8 from javasoft, still no luck.
    Any idea?

    Hi,
The problem of installing Oracle Product on P4 computers comes from the symcjit.dll (Java Jusit in time compiler) which doesn't recognize the P4.
I installed Oracle products on my P4 just by copying the CD's on a harddisk and manually replacing the dll (which is Version 3...) by a one I found to be Version 4.0.0.7.
It is maybe not the best solution as it can result some instability (I don't know yet) but at least I didn't bought a brand new computer for nothing.
The question is to know when Oracle will deliver some patches to allow a normal installation on P4s.
Let me know if you want me to send you the dll.

    Jacques.

  • Oracle XE installation problems in Windows XP

    Hi all,
During installation I got following error mesage:
"Oracle SQL*PLUS has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience."
There was also request to send problem info to Microsoft.
Another problem was that I can't open XE GUI.
I got the famous "The page cannot be displayed" message.
It can't be a port problem because Apache Web-server happily used that address and port.
All help to solve these problems are welcome.

The SQLPlus problem you have reported is the #1 symptom of the DLL issue. Do a search on your machine and see if you can find a DLL called oraociei10.dll
If you do, check which directory it is in. The make sure that directory is not in your path.
Note that if this is the problem, then I do not think your install was successful, as the same problem also causes the install to fail. So this may also be why you cannot launch the home page.
Other reasons why the home page will not launch includes having a space in your Windows account user name - i.e what you logon to the machine with. This is also a known issue. The only workaround for this one is to deinstall, create a new Windows account user without a space (perhaps even oracle ?), logon as this user, and re-install.
I also have concerns about your statement that Apache uses the same port. Of course, you cannot have Apache and something else like Oracle Database XE share the same port. So if Apache was running during the install, the database port would have been moved, typically to 8081. If you had Apache shut down during the install, then the database would have been placed on port 8080 - but if Apache is now started and also listening on 808, then things are going to get ugly.
What is the URL that is being used for the Homepage, and is Apache running ?

  • IAS 6.0 installation problem on Windows 2000 Server

I've been trying to install iAS 6.0 Test Driver Service Pack 3, but it just
does not seem to be doing anything, installation process shows me a progress
bar and returns "successful completion" screen, but really doesn't copy
anything to the specified location. I've tried setting my machine up with
static IP and DNS suffix, that made no difference at all. Someone suggested
related entries clean up from registry, don't see any of those entry in
registry. Don't know what to try next -- very frustrating.
Any help will highly be appreciated, this kind of urgent.

    Hi Abdul,
Can you please tell me which webserver you are using with Test-Drive-Sp-III, it
    should be iWS-4.1.
As you are trying it on a windows m/c, sometimes fixing the DNS-suffix in usual
way doesn't update the windows registry.
To make sure that it is added to the windows registry just run regedit and click
    on the :
    My Computer\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\ControlSet001\Services\Tcpip\Parameters
key, you will see the Domain key value set to your domainname, otherwise enter
the domain name into this key value, and than reboot the m/c, and than reinstall
    the iAS. It should work.
If you further encounter problems, please mail me back.

  • Oracle9iAS Portal Installation problem on Windows 2000

I'm trying to install distributed oracle AS environment.
    There are two servers(A, B) with Windows2000+SP2
and one of them, Server A, has domain controller in it.
Server B is a member of that domain.
    In server A,
    I installed Oracle9i and Oracle9iAS infrastructure.
Everything looks fine when I checked with EnterpriseManager website.
These are the components I can see...
    BC4J, ClickStream Collector, HTTP Server Internet Directory, OC4J_DAS, OC4J_Demos, OC4J_Home, Single Sign-On:orasso:7777
All the components are running except ClickStream Collector.
    In server B, as a middle-tier,
    I installed Oracle9iAS Portal/Wireless.
Everything goes fine except Wireless Configuration at the end of the Installation Process.
Ignoring Wireless error, I connected to EnterpriseManager website in Server A.
I can see the <9iAS Portal/Wireless> instance registered that I just installed in Server B.
Click into the <9iAS Portal/Wireless> Application Server, it seems OK except Wireless.
But, when I opened <oracle_home>/assistants/opca/install.log in Server B,
I could find some ERRORS while <configuring portal as a Partner Application for SSO Server>.
    INSTALL_ACTION:createPartnerApplicationConfig()
    INSTALL_ACTION:assocPortalToExistingSSO()
It was sql*plus ERROR, and it says...
    SQL>ERROR:
    ORA-01017: invalid username/password: login denied
Because of this error, I think, Portal DAD creation has failed.
Could somebody can help me with this problem?

  • JWSDP installation problem on Windows 2000

    Hi,
I downloaded the JWSDP1.0ea1 today, but I could not install the downloaded file (which is an executable). The install program tells me there is no JDK1.3.1 on my system, but there sure is (since I use the computer on which I try to install it everyday to write java programs :-) ).
(following commands on the prompt confirms this:
    C:\>echo %java_home%
    C:\java\jdk1.3.1
    C:\>java -version
    java version "1.3.0_02"
Java(TM) 2 Runtime Environment, Standard Edition (build 1.3.0_02)
Java HotSpot(TM) Client VM (build 1.3.0_02, mixed mode)
Could it be that this is a bug in the installer for the JWSDP on Win2k? Has someone experienced the same problem?
    regards,
    Wim.

My freshly installed J2SE1.4RC was recognized by the installer, but it put the files into c:\jwsdp-1_0-ea1\ instead of into the
J2SE dir tree as the installer implied that it would.
Is this right? A Bug? and it begs the general question:
WHERE IS THE INSTALLATION README LINK on the JWSDP download page? See email to feedback as follows....
    Your web page
    http://java.sun.com/webservices/downloads/webservicespack.html
doesnt link to install instructions for the Java Web Services Developer Pack.
The link provided is only for the Java 2 SDK, Standard Edition
    Version 1.3.1 !!
The installer of the Java WSDP (on Win2K at any rate) leads one
to believe that it will be "integrated" with (i.e. loaded into the dir tree of)
the JDK that it finds on the system (in my case the J2SE1.4 RC).
It, in fact, installed into its own area (c:\jwsdp-1_0-ea1\) PLUS it already
included the tutorial that we are led to believe needs a separate download
according to the instructions on the download page
    [ again as above: http://java.sun.com/webservices/downloads/webservicespack.html ]
So, WHERE are the instructions that say what (if anything) is needed
to finish installation such that, say, Tomcat can be fired up (for example).
P.S. Before you point me to the page
    http://java.sun.com/j2ee/documentation/windows_guide.html
note that I am looking for how to finish installation/integration
with a J2SE installation (*as the download page says is already
tested) and NOT a J2EE installation.
So, again where is the SE instructions page (not an EE page)?
    * - "This release of the Java Web Services Developer Pack has
been tested with various configurations with the JavaTM 2 SDK,
    Standard Edition version 1.3.1_01, 1.3.1_02, and 1.4..."

  • Oracle 8i EE Install problems on Windows 2000

Problem 1 - LENGTH OF INSTALL FILES PATH.
The Oracle Universal Installer was coming up fine, but the "Next" button wouldn't do anything. After much trial and error, I discovered this to be related to the path of the install files. Rather than burning to CD, I had copied the install files into a directory C:\ORA816 - when I renamed this directory to just C:\O, the "Next" magically began working. This problem only occurs on Windows 2000, not NT4.
