Oracle 8i - no protocal support shown

I am currently installing Oracle8i on RedHat Linux 6.1. Within the Universal Installer, a page is shown for "Oracle Protocol Support" with a box showing the protocols supported by my Linux box. However, there is nothing listed. Are there special RPMs that I have to install for this native protocol software? For my Linux installation, I chose the easy path and did a "KDE Workstation" installation that the RedHat installer offers. I would have thought this includes the necessary network protocol software....

Ignore the empty list. It works fine. Once you run dbassist it will configure the listner with IPC and tcp connections for the instance. Haven't tried a second instance yet, but assume it will correctly change the listener.ora file..

  • Whether Oracle 8.1.6 Supports Windows 2003 Server/Windows 2000 Adv. Server

    Dear All,
    Whether Oracle 8.1.6 Supports Windows 2003 Server/Windows 2000 Adv. Server.
    I tried it in windows 2003 server but i couldn't. Atlease tell me wheather it support windows 2000 adv. server. This is my first dba job.
    Under Doc ID: 66397.1 saying Oracle 8.1.6 Not Support Windows NT Server 4.0 Terminal Server Edition.
    Under Doc ID: 77627.1 saying Oracle 8.1.6 Supports Windows 2000 Support.
    Please help me out urgently.

    Since you have access to Metalink, you could be looking at the Certify tab to find this information. But, the answer is that 8.1.6 is no longer supported by Oracle. However, you should be able to install it on Win 2000 advanced server. You just can't get any support for it.
    The earliest version of db supported on Win 2003 was either 9.0 or 9.2, but 9.0 is desupported now as well.

  • Oracle RAC DIF/DIX support

    Does Oracle RAC database support DIF/DIX for data integrity? I am assuming this should be supported  with the use of UEK2/3 kernel. Thanks.

    Considering Oracle wrote DIF/DIX support for Linux, yes it does. It requires the use of ASMlib as well.

    Hello.
    Can anybody explain, how should I understand this "Certification Information" from Oracle metalink?

    "Oracle Database is certified with the following Windows Server 2008 editions:

  • Does Oracle E-Biz 11i support intercompany Invoice with a negative line?

    We are using Oracle E-Biz GL/AP/AR/FA (Oracle E-Biz 11.5.2.10). Now we are facing this issue: When we create an intercompany Invoice with a negative line it does not generate proper inter-company entries.
    For eg:
    Invoice Amount 1000 for company1
    Distribution:
    Company2.account.company1 : 300
    Company3.account.company1 : 300
    Company4.account.company1 : 500
    Company5.account.company1 : -100
    when transfer to GL process is done following entries are generated.
    Company1.Liab account.company1 Credit 1000
    Company2.Exp account.company1 Debit 300
    Company3.Exp account.company1 Debit 300
    Company4.Exp account.company1 Debit 500
    Company5.Exp account.company1 Credit 100
    on posting following Intercompany transactions are generated.
    Company2.Interco Payable account.000 Cr 300
    Company3.Interco Payable account.000 Cr 300
    Company4.Interco Payable account.000 Cr 500
    Company5.Interco Recievable account.000 Dr 100
    Company1.Interco Recievable account.000 Dr 1000
    where as the correct entry should be :
    Company2.Interco Payable account.company1 Cr 300
    Company3.Interco Payable account.company1 Cr 300
    Company4.Interco Payable account.company1 Cr 500
    Company1.Interco Payable account.company5 Cr 100
    Company5.Interco Recievable account.company1 Dr 100
    Company1.Interco Recievable account.company2 Dr 300
    Company1.Interco Recievable account.company3 Dr 300
    Company1.Interco Recievable account.company4 Dr 500
    Have you faced this kind of issue? Does Oracle support intercompany Invoice with a negative line (credit)? If 11i doesn't support this feature, does Oracle E-Biz 12 support this feature?
    Your insights will be very helpful.

    Hi,
    Now we are trying to convert the 11g-Database UTF-8 characterset to AL32UTF8 characterset.Why do you need to change the database characterset?
    As per metalink Notes, there is no very clear steps on how to deal with Apps Environment after DB characterset change using CSALTER.Did you go through these documents?
    Note: 788156.1 - AL32UTF8 / UTF8 (Unicode) Database Character Set Implications
    Note: 260192.1 - Changing the NLS_CHARACTERSET to AL32UTF8 / UTF8 (Unicode)
    Note: 124721.1 - Migrating an Applications Installation to a New Character Set
    Note: 225912.1 - Changing the Database Character Set ( NLS_CHARACTERSET )
    1) After DB characterset change, do we have to run Autoconfig, after editing the DB XML file to reflect new characterset value.Yes.
    2) Does the same apply to Application CONTEXT file also for APPL_TOP, etcAre you also changing the application tier characterset? However, I would say you will have to run AutoConfig in both cases.
    3) when shud we run adadmin- filesystem cahracterset conversion. Before or after autoconfig.Run the "Convert character set" via adadmin, then run AutoConfig -- See "Oracle® Applications Maintenance Utilities" manual for details.
    Also i am facing issues in connecting to sqlplus from applmgr user after the DB characterset change.
    It just core-dumps.Did you implement all the steps mentioned in the documents? What is the complete error message? What does "echo $NLS_LANG" return as oracle and applmgr users?
    Regards,
    Hussein

  • Why doesn't Oracle.DataAccess.Types classes support IConvertible?

    Hello:
    Is there a reason why the Oracle types don't support IConvertible?
    It is really annoying. Especially when cmd.Parameters["PARM1"].Value is usually an Oracle type and cmd.ExecuteScalar returns a .NET type.
    It essentially means I have to write different code for conceptually identical code. Is there are a way to tell Oracle classes what types I would like to recieve? Is there are way to get an integer, etc. without invalid cast errors and without needing to test my code first?
    I would really like to know what to expect when I access a property or a method. However, it is really hard for me. Some times I am expecting an Int32, but I will get a Decimal/OracleDecimal - even when I say in the OracleDbType that I want and Int32.
    If the Oracle type supported IConvertible I wouldn't have to worry about it and I could use the built-in .NET class Convert to do it for me. What am I to do? Am I missing something?
    Thanks,
    Travis

    For example:
    OracleCommand cmd = new OracleCommand("SCALAR_PROC", conn);
    cmd.CommandType = CommandType.StoredProcedure;
    cmd.Parameters.Add("PARAM1", OracleDbType.Int32, ParameterDirection.ReturnValue);
    cmd.ExecuteNonQuery();
    object o1= cmd.Parameters["PARAM1"].Value;
    // What is o1 without needing to guess?
    cmd = new OracleCommand("SELECT 123 FROM DUAL", conn);
    object o2 = cmd.ExecuteScalar();
    // What is o2 without needing to guess?
    // Shouldn't these return conceptually the same type?
    // How can I use the same code to get the type I want?
    Now, if Oracle types supported IConvertible, I could write this simple line of code to get an Int32:
    int i = (int)Convert.ChangeType(o1, typeof(int));
    Ta da! However, Oracle types cause an error because they are not IConvertible.

  • How to rechoose or add the Oracle 10g AS's support language?

    hi all,
    I Installed the Oracle 10g As on a redhat as 3 with sp4. and I did not choose any other languages support while install the Oracle 10g AS. All were fine except that while I accessed the server's 1810 port with IE6, I got additive device. Some charatersets display right while some such as buttons display as a litter pane.
    so my question is how to rechoose the Oracle 10g AS's support language and set one of my preference to as default character set !
    I am not sure whether this problem just relate to the emctl's startup parameter.
    regards,
    Ari

    Finally, I reinstalled the Oracle Application Server 10g on the same Operration System. Any modification of the setting in my computer hasn't been made. in the course of installation, all the operation steps were the same with the previous time, except for adding a language support.
    And this time, to access the em manager console with IE, all runs fine without any additive device. The buttons display the right words now. And I found there are something different in the folder $ORACLE_HOME/sysman/webapps/emd/cabo/images/cache/.
    But I still have not any idea how to correct this problem on an installed system if I meet next time. Do I must reinstall anytimes? Or there just need to modify some config files?

  • Finding Oracle product end of support info.

    Hi,
    Is there a place on this site where I can find information about how long Oracle products (specifically Oracle 8i) will be supported? I know that for 8i the end of support is probably a long way off, but this information is important so that I can create a roadmap for database upgrades.
