Oracle 8i on Win XP?

I installed Oracle 8i on XP succssfully and connected to database using SQL/plus with no problems.
I installed Oracle Forms 6i on a different oracle home, it installed fine, but I could not connect to Database from Forms.
The listener is runing and I checked tnsnames.ora, everything looks Ok!
I am wondering if Forms 6i should be installed on the same oracle home as the database?
Any input would be helpful.
Thank you.
[email protected] (email@)

you have to copy your tnsnames.ora and sqlnet.ora (and not moving those files !!) from you oracle home it's in this map \oracle\ora81\network\admin\
to your net80 under Forms Home .
and hope it will works fine for you !!

I have never tried to use 16-bit SQLNet client on Windows 2003 x86. I'm pretty sure that this combination will not be supported by Oracle , athough it could work.
As far as I remember the 2.3 client was shipped with the Oracle 7.3.
here is the desupport notice for Oracle 7

    Thanks,

I downloaded Oracle 9i Personal edition from Oracle.com.
Installed the same on Win Me with a starter database.
I am not able to open the database since it asks me to enter a password which i've never entered.
I am not able to create a session. The moment I try to create a session on SQL, the database starts opening but i cannot get further since it asks for the password.

    Hi All,

    Thanx

Hi "User", seems you have the same problem
like all that do their first-time install :-)
Forms uses a different Oracle_HOME (required by setup), and hence does not "see" the "settings" of the normal client.
    Try the following:
    - Set up a connection with NET80-Tools
    - Test with SQL*PLUS
    - Copy "tnsnames.ora" from the Client-81-Home
    to the forms-Home, e.g.
    cd ORACLE/FORMS/NET80/ADMIN
    copy ORACLE/ORA81/NETWORK/ADMIN/tnsnames.ora
Of course, you'll have to check for YOUR
directory names...this is just a samples, resp. mthe setup of a machiche I configured yesterday. HTH.

  • How to remove Oracle Services from Win NT Services

I had oracle 8i(8.1.6) installed and then tried to upgrade to 9i (9.2) but it got messed up as database upgrade only works from 8.1.7 to 9 and not from 8.1.6. go to register, type regedit on run prompt
register will open. go to hkey_local_machine then
go to software and click oracle option
    and then find service name,
    and delete the service.
otherwise you may stop the service by control panel

  • Oracle forms 10g (win Xp middle tier IE 8             Win 7- IE 8 client)

    forms services 10.1.2.0.2
Database 11gR2 also on Win Xp pro SP3
    Hi
I have a problem with java and Jinitiator and my understanding of what is / should be happening.
In the file forms/server/formsweb.cfg see below. I can alter the parameter
    baseHTMLjinitiator=basejini.htm
    ###baseHTMLjinitiator=basejpi.htm
between the two alternatives. As it stands as shown the IE8 on the middle tier and on the database PC both work as near correctly as i can tell. On the Win 7 client IE 8 however crashes. switch it to the other way around and the
win 7 works and the win xp on the database server stops with frm-92095 error version number too low. while on the middle tier Xp PC a blank doucument is displayed.
How can i have both working at the same time please. I you need more information i will happily supply it.

You have a mixture of problems here.
    1. Oracle Jinitiator is not supported for use on Windows 7
    2. JRE 1.7 is not supported for use with any version of Forms on any platform. Be sure you do not have this version installed.
    3. JRE 1.6 is not supported for use with Forms 10.1.2.0.2, however is supported with 10.1.2.3 (10.1.2.0.2 + patch ID 5983622) and only with IE 8
    4. In order to use Win 7 with Forms 10 in a certified and supported manner, you must use 10.1.2.3 (meaning 10.1.2.0.2 + patch ID 5983622).
In short, my recommendation would be the following:
o Patch to 10.1.2.3 (assuming you have access to MyOracleSupport)
o Don't bother trying to use Oracle Jinitiator as it is old and has been desupported for a long time.
o Uninstall any instances of Jinitiator as it can cause conflicts with other JRE installations.
o Uninstall all instances of JRE 1.7. Reconfig your formsweb.cfg to use the JRE (Java Plugin) 1.6.0

please help me i am try to install oracle developer 10g on win server 2008 but failed because the version of operating system not 5 or 5.1 or 5.2 and it is 6
so i want to install oracle developer 11g on win server 2008 but i am not found oracle developer 11g to download it
please any one help me to solve this problem or help me to find oracle developer 11g
    Thank you

Oracle Developler 11g is now called Oracle Fusion Middleware (FMw) 11g and can be downloaded from the Oracle Fusion Middleware Downloads page. You have to download and install WebLogic Server (WLS) 10.3.3 first, then scroll down and download and install Portal, Forms, Reports and Discoverer (11.1.1.3.0).
When you install WLS, make sure you do not run the configuration step. When you install FMw, it will configure the WLS as part of it's configuration step.
    Hope this helps,

I had a similar problem with my admin machine - I had installed a 9i Admin client, an 11i App Server admin client, an 8i client and a 10g client. I had problems because of the tnsnames files being used by different clients were in different directories and they were squashing each other. I went in and edited the path statement to only refer to the 10g client and its tnsnames file. I made sure that the tnsnames file had entries for all the various systems I had to connect to, and I had to tweak the sqlnet.ora file to point at the tnsnames file first. Then everything worked. You might also have to set a default Oracle_home environment variable.
If you can, I'd see if you can save the tnsnames entries for all but the 10g stuff and remove those clients. Then re-install the 10g client and paste in the tnsnames entries.
    Good luck.

  • Can i install/run  oracle 8i in win xp

    can i install/run oracle 8i in windows xp ?

yes u can install ora 8i in win xp pro
    Windows XP Home Edition
Oracle 8i is not certified on windows XP. Even if yes, it must be Windows XP Professional.
You can install Oracle8i on windows XP Home Edition, try like this:
1 - Copy your Oracle CD into hard disk in your
machine. For example Copy from oracle8i CD into C:\Oracle\ ...
2 - Search the two files named Symcjit.dll on the D drive (where you have copied Oracle8i. You can found them in (example):
    C:\Oracle\stage\Components\oracle.swd.jre\1.1.7.30\1
    \DataFiles\Expanded\jre\win32\bin\symcjit.dll
3 - Rename this file (Example): symcjit_back.dll (make sure to find two files and rename them)
    4 - Execute the Oracle setup.exe from C:\Oracle\setup.exe
    =================================================================
When Oracle 8i dies on the install or the installer hangs, here is the fix for this, make sure that you have Service Pack 2 installed.
    1. \JRE\1.3.1\ From Sun. (You can download java program at http://java.sun.com/products/jdk/1.1/jre/download-jre-windows.html)
    2. Install the java file.
There is also a problem in the installation disk.
    3. Make a copy of the Oracle 8i disk on the local hard disk.
    4. Do a search for the two files called symcjit.dll and rename them for example: symcjit.old.
    5. Install Oracle from the win32 directory.

While I was trying to install Dev/2k on Win XP, I got a message to close all Oracle services before I proceed with the installation. In Windows NT, I simply open Services folder from the control panel and shut down the desired srvice, but there is no such a thing on Win XP...
    Any input would be helpful.
    Thank you much in advance.

Go to Control Panel --> Administrative Tools --> Services and find all the service names starting with Oracle and right click to manually stop each one.
