Oracle 8i on Windows Server 2003 Standard Edition R2

All the installation process works fine but at the end the database creation process fails. When I see the log file it shows, starterdb unable to run.
There is another problem, the setup does not start from CD. When I copy all the files to hard drive and rund setup it works.

Your are working with software desupported so long ago Mastadons and Sabre Toothed Kittycats still roamed the earth.
And also long before Windows 2003 on which it is totally untested and unsupported.
Time to move to software supported during the current millennium: That means 10gR2 or 11g.

  • Oracle 10g on Windows Server 2003 Standard 64bit

We are running Oracle 10g on Windows Server 2003 Standard 64bit Edition. I am NOT a DBA, so forgive my ignorance.
We have 16GB of physical memory in this server. I was told by a DBA that Oracle runs on "a single process", and because of that, he said that Windows Server 2003 Standard will only allow 2GB max for a single process.
    Can anyone confirm this? Thanks.

This sounds more lika a Windows issue. If both Windows and app is "64-bit", I would expect the user virtual address space (per process) to be in the TiB range, if not larger.
(The said 2GiB limit applies to a 32-bit system.)

  • Is there a limit for SGA_MAX_SIZE on windows Server 2003 Standard Edition

I have a 9.2.0.8 Standard Edition running on windows Server 2003 Standard Edition. I cannot set SGA_MAX_SIZE to more than 1.7G. I have total of 3G RAM on that machine.

In order to use memory over 4 GB the /PAE flag must be set and Oracle must be tuned
accordingly. As mentioned above, for using memory over 4 GB and less than 16 GB, the
/3GB flag can be set as well. Oracle uses memory above 4 GB by taking advantage of
the AWE (Address Windowing Extension) feature built into Windows 2000, Windows
    2003 and Windows XP.
In order to use this memory, the Oracle administrator account (either LocalSystem or the
domain user that installed Oracle) must have the “Lock memory pages” privilege set. In
addition the AWE_WINDOW_MEMORY parameter must also be created and set. This
parameter specifies how much of the 3 GB virtual memory space allocated to Oracle
should be used for mapping database buffers. The default value of 1GB should be
sufficient and increasing this value could be detrimental, since you only have 3 GB of
virtual memory to use. The higher the value of AWE_WINDOW_MEMORY that you
have set, the more likely it is that you will experience user memory issues. Start with the
default value of 1 GB and tune upwards only if you need to.
Once these steps have been completed, larger memory can be set by configuring
DB_BLOCK_SIZE and DB_BLOCK_BUFFERS initialization parameters. When using
Very Large Memory (VLM) you should use DB_BLOCK_BUFFERS rather than
DB_CACHE_SIZE in order to configure memory.

  • Windows server 2003 Standard edition RAM Upgrade

We are using Windows server 2003 Standard 32 bit edition in our office With HP ProLiant DL580 Generation 5 hardware , We are trying to upgrade RAM to 8 GB from 4 GB but it is not taking, It is detecting 8 GB RAM while booting but not showing in my computer
    property.
Same thing we tried with Windows server 2003 Enterprise edition and it is working fine there.
Is there anyway to upgrade it ?

It is normal. You simply need to use a 64 bit OS.
You need to re-install the OS to be running a 64bit version as no in-place upgrade is supported.

    Hi:
Not the usual thing in forums to use all caps, but no offense taken.
    For password reset, try this:

  • Can JDK1.3.1_16 be installed on Microsoft Server 2003, Standard Edition?

    Hello,
I installed SDK1.3.1 update 16 on a computer with the operating system Microsoft Server 2003, Standard Edition.
The JAVA_HOME variable was NOT automatically created as part of the installation. So I created it myself.
I installed a voice recognition browser afterwards (that requires JDK1.3.1 update 06 or later) and it could not detect that the appropriate JDK had been installed and/or the JAVA_HOME variable had been set correctly.
Is it normal for the JAVA_HOME variable to not be created automatically? If this is not normal, what could be the problem and how can I rectify it? Again I need a version of JDK 1.3.1 for the browser to work.
    Thanks,
    Bonnie

    Hi Bonnie
Maybe a bit late to comment, but for the record...
I just tried to install JDK1.3.1 on a Windows Server 2003 Standard Edition SP1 (version 5.2.3790) server.
I initially tried to install 1.3.1_13, but java -version failed quietly with following error in eventvwr logs:
Faulting application java.exe, version 0.0.0.0, faulting module jvm.dll, version 0.0.0.0, fault address 0x000bc1f8.
The application, C:\jdk1.3.1_13\jre\bin\java.exe, generated an application error The error occurred on 03/30/2006 @ 08:47:35.425 The exception generated was c0000005 at address 6D4DC1F8 (jvm!gHotSpotVMIntConstantEntryValueOffset)I tried uninstalling and reinstalling JDK from Add|Remove Programs, but without success.
I then tried 1.3.1_8 and it worked fine first time.
I then tried 1.3.1_12 and it failed with this eventvwr message
Faulting application java.exe, version 0.0.0.0, faulting module jvm.dll, version 0.0.0.0, fault address 0x000bc1f8.
The exception generated was c0000005 at address 6D4DC1F8 (jvm!gHotSpotVMIntConstantEntryValueOffset)The 1.3.1 documentation that I've read doesn't explicitly mention support for Server 2003.
In contrast, 1.4 explicitly supports Server 2003.

As Windows 2003 is officially released this week, I believe Oracle will shortly announce which versions of the database will be supported on Windows 2003. Stay tuned.

  • HELP! Oracle 9i on Windows Server 2003

Hi, if I go to download the 9.0.2.1.0 release 2 of Oracle 9i for Windows Server 2003 there is only a patch and another small zip file, and not the full 3 Disk zip files? Then if you read the release notes under the zip links it points to the 9.0.2.1.0 release 2 of Oracle 9i for Windows 2000/XP? And then talks about applying some patches...
Can someone confirm that I do need to install the 9.0.2.1.0 release 2 of Oracle 9i for Windows 2000/XP on the Windows 2003 Server and then apply these patches?
    TIA

This is the release option for the Windows 2003 Server:
    Oracle9i Database Release 2 Enterprise/Standard/Personal/Client Edition
    for Windows Server 2003 (32-bit)
but like I mentioned above it only has a patch and another small zip file which is obviously not the complete Oracle9i database:

  • JRE Error : while Install oracle 10gR2 on Windows Server 2003

    Hello,
I am trying to install a Oracle 10gR2 on windows server 2003.
I have unziped the files and when I run the oui.exe it gives the below error:
cannot find any matches for wildcard specification "../stage/components/oracle.swd.jre/1.5.0.0./1/DataFiles/*.jar
Error : JRE missing in Scratch Path
I tried changing the oraparmaini file but it did not allow to make any changes.
Not sure if its looking for any particular java files.
What should i edit ,to specify the java location.
    Thanks

What exactly did you unzip? This error occurs if there are several zip-files extracted to different target locations. But - if I remember correctly - 10gR2 database is only one zip-file, so you should not face this issue. JRE for OUI is part of the downloaded software,so you don't need to specify a location for JRE, OUI knows where to find this.

  • Do I need the /3gb switch on Windows Server 2003 Enterprise Edition

I have an Oracle 10g database running on a Windows Server 2003 Enterprise Edition with 16gb of RAM. Do I need to set the /3gb and or /PAE switch in the boot.ini file for Oracle to use this memory?

This metalink doc talking pretty extensively about the setting
Implementing Address Windowing Extensions (AWE) or VLM on Windows Platforms
    Doc ID: Note:225349.1
As you might know 32bit system has limitation of 4G max addressable memory issue. In Windows that's 2G limit because Windows reserve 2G for system. With /3G switch you can let Application address 3G with 1G for OS, if your system has more than 4G you need to use /PAE to address memory beyond 4G.
Of course if you don't plan to allocate more than 2G to Oracle SGA then don't need the settings.

  • Oracle 10gR2 on Windows Server 2003 R2

What is the patchset for Oracle 10gR2 on Windows Server 2003 R2? I have check 'Patches/Updates' tab but the patch p5337014_10203_WINNT.zip is ONLY dowloadable from Microsoft Windows (32 bit)
platform? Is there a separate 10.2.0.3 patch for Microsoft Windows 2003 (x86)
    Version 2003 R2? Please advice.
My current Oracle version is 10.2.0.1 and I am trying to upgrade to 10.2.0.3

I don't think that this is the place to ask about downloads external to OTN. See forum description. Questions about the patches from Metalink (after searching/reading existing Notes and still not coming up with a definitive answer) should in general be directed to Metalink (e.g. open a SR).
With that said.. If you are asking on how to retrieve the patch set via Metalink interface, then you should turn to Patches & Updates (one of the main tabs). Use e.g. Simple Search or Quick Links to the Latest... to drill down.
When you have found a patch set, the Patch Set readme documents system requirements and other vital information.
If you are looking for other information regarding patches and patching, the first place to look is again Metalink. Certification and supportability information can be found via Certify tab. There are several "tactical" Notes such as 161549.1 and 316900.1 useful for supporting your own procedures and for finding further information.

  • How to install device cals on Windows Server 2012 standard edition

Hello i have a windows server 2012 standard edition licence that i have taken on rent from an ISP.
i have created a domain controller on that.
By default only two users can use remote desktop to the server simultaneously.
My Requirement is 20 users can use remote desktop to the server at the same time. For that i have purchased 20 Delive CALs licences like volume licencing.
i have the licence number noted on the paper.
do i need to install remote desktop services first etc ?
Could anyone guide me step by step how can i install or configure so that 20 users can use remote desktop on the same time.

    Hi,
    Any update about the issue?
I would agree with others, you need to install Remote Desktop Services Client Access Licenses.
There are three methods by which you can install Remote Desktop Services client access licenses (RDS CALs) onto your license server:
    • Install Remote Desktop Services Client Access Licenses Automatically
    • Install Remote Desktop Services Client Access Licenses by Using a Web Browser
    • Install Remote Desktop Services Client Access Licenses by Using the Telephone
    https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc725890.aspx?f=255&MSPPError=-2147217396
Then you can install both Per User and Per Device CALs onto the same license server.

  • Issues when Sharepoint Services 3.0 OS upgraded from windows server 2003 standard to windows server 2003 enterprise

In my sharepoint 2007, I have upgraded the OS from windows server 2003 standard to windows server 2003 enterprise R2 SP2. After the OS upgrade when I run the central admin it's showing this error "Microsoft Windows Sharepoint Services 3.0 Error 2908
error has occurred" screen shot below of the error.
    Any help?

Not sure I can help.  In general MS does NOT support the upgrade of the Underlying OS without re-installing SharePoint.  Many of the prerequisites that were installed when SharePoint was installed are OS specific.  You can either contact
Product Support and see if they can provide any assistance or re-install SharePoint from scratch and re-attach/migrate all the existing databases with content into the new system on the new OS.
