Oracle 8i, Oracle 9i AS, and J2EE Conformance. What for What ?

I am very desappointed by the way Oracle is packaging and delivering successive versions of "Oracle JVM" suites, and the confusion they are creating with so called "Oracle 9i AS" ...
As stated in documentations,
1- Oracle 8i release 3 (8.1.7) has a JVM which conform to JSP 1.1, Servlet 2.2 and EJB 1.1 specifications. But no one affirm that we have conformance with J2EE.
2- In the same time, Oracle have release a "new and replace old version" of his application server named "Oracle 9i AS" which is limited to JSP 1.0, servlet 2.1 and EJB 1.? specification. The related documents present the product as all in one package containing also an oracle 8i database.
3- Oracle is preparing the next release of the best next release named "Oracle 9i" with all conformance to J2EE.
I please, ask to Oracle Staff to stop create more confusion and give a more precision in his orientation as Application Server Provider. To be conform to standard specifications and let developpers have opportunities to choose beetween Oracle extensions and standard API. I am since waiting for oracle to put his internet tools and server containers in conformance with J2EE.
I don't want to give strategic lesson to anyone, but I am sure Oracle by doing so, is differing many Web projects from going with his Application Server suite. The actual solution is not wide open, for portable internet application solutions.
So ! I am still waiting for a great solution, perhaps "Oracle 9i".

For the best explanation possible , please review the technical whitepapers on ias on this web page :
http://otn.oracle.com/products/ias/
Especially the following :
"Oracle9i Application Server Technical White Paper" at : http://otn.oracle.com/products/ias/pdf/9ias_102.pdf
and
"Oracle9i Application Server Database Cache" at : http://otn.oracle.com/products/ias/pdf/db_cache_twp.pdf
I can't do justice to the design as well as the whitepapers but let me make an attempt.

  • Oracle database normalisation and logical design documnetation

    Hi ,
Am a begginer on DB design , can anyone help me find Oracle database normalisation and logical design documnetation for reference.
    Thanks,
    Swaroop

Database logical design and normalization are typically DBMS (Database Management System) independent. Meaning that you could do a whole LOGICAL design without regards to the platform in which it will be based. There are many, many resources on the internet if you search for them. if you used terms like "logical database design", or "database normalization" on Google or your search engine of choice I imagine you'll come up with many results.
When it comes to the actual physical design of the database (as in tablespaces, datafiles, indexes, etc) I would first consult the "Oracle Concepts Guide", and then something like the "Application Developer's Guide." This documentation is all available at:

    Hope this helps!

  • Difference between Oracle Testing Center and Prometric?

what is the Difference between Oracle Testing Center and Prometric?

Notes for an Oracle Testing Center are here:
The cancellation policies are possibly harder than a Standard Testing Center Vendor.
I would suggest that Oracle Testing Centers possilbly offer exams more on an event or batch basis; (Oracle Openworld is an example; though thats not what one would think of as an Oracle Test Center).
In general I suspect most people will find it just as easy to take the exam through a prometric(or new testing vendor) center. and there will often typically be more slots available. And the testing center will be typically be examing for other testing suppliers, perhaps mosting microsoft and cisco, but there's a mryiad of others out there as well. So the'll probably be well set up for it.
Here in the UK (south) we have a fairly (very) dense population. I've used 4 centers myself:
One 5 miles from me, a college, thats dual Pearson VUE/Prometric; though there only offering Pearson VUE at present until they moved to a bigger suite, with 4 stations. Nice and friendly. 5 days week.
One 25 miles from me, a training center, that offer dual Pearson VUE/Prometric; 4/8 stations; very friendly, cup of coffe offered; I usually go by Puff Puff to this one.
One 10 miles from me, maybe a 12 workstation suite, they offer usually prometric (but not oracle) on one a week. Felt Conveyor like compared to other two above; but very friendly and efficient.
One 35 miles from me, Prometric only including oracle only, maybe a 12 workstation suite, CRT's, and not necessarily of the best quality. This one really felt conveyor like to me, though staff were friendly. This is effectively a drive for me. Also whereas the others I've usd sit one down to sign the forms in a room this one was done at building reception.
The city center ones can sometimes be a little noisy and earplugs are recommended, though the one city center one I've used has provided them others don't have to.
In general from once I used a particular center I feel more comfortable; I'll know exactly where it is; where I have have a quick cup of coffee (with sugar) beforehand going over notes. This all helps me to be a little less anxious before the exam. When I get that prepartion wrong, and I certainly did once, if probably cost me maybe 2/3/4 %.
Getting to know your local test center and routine is one reason why I encourage people to take 1z0-007 and 1z0-051 proctored so they know the procedure and get to know a local Promteric etc Test Center before taking a more advanced and expensive exam.
    Rgds -bigdelboy.
PS: I expect comments from some people who live 100 (+) miles from a test center and have no alternative choice. And those in some places will probably say they feel they are treated like cattle by the test center.

  • Oracle and J2EE EJB

    Hi all,
I am novice in the develpment of applications using EJB's. I have created the table and inserted the records in the oracle database using the J2EE where by the J2EE creates the table autometically. The application is working fine. But my main concern is that I am not able to access any records of this table when I give "select * from SportscarBeanTable" querry in the sql prompt of the oracle for which I get "no such table". But if I give the querry "Select table_name from user_tables", the table created by me is displayed. Can anybody clarify my doubt. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

    Hi,
Yes it is listing the table. The table is created by the J2EE server in the oracle database. Can u please specify the schema under which the J2EE server creates the tables in the oracle database.
    Thank you,

  • Download between Oracle 9i Database and Oracle 9i DS

I have download the files for Windows 2000.
    Oracle 9i Database version 9.0.2.1
    Oracle 9i DS version 9.0.2
    Download Date: June 7, 2002
These from what I can tell are the lates versions on the website. I installed the database and everything went in fine. I can work with the database and everything. When I use the Universal Installer for Oracle 9i DS, I get an error when it hits 31% that states that this version of DS will not work with a database that is of version 9.0.2.1 or greater.
If anyone can help me it would be a great help,

    Hi,
Your question is the answer. Oracle9i Database manages all your eBusiness data and Oracle9iAS runs all your eBusiness
applications. In a 3 tier architecture, Oracle9i Database fits in the Database tier where as Oracle9iAS fits in the middle
tier. Oracle9iAS provides an infrastructure to run different types of applications(J2EE thru OC4J, Forms applns, Portal
    based applns, Wireless applns etc..)

  • HTTP server on Oracle 11g R1 and apex listener

I have installed APEX 4.0.1 on Oracle 11g R1 and things went well until the installation of the APEX listener.
    - I followed the installation guide and I opted for the basic connection type but I found the following message:
the network adapter could not establish the connection
I then checked my services and i noted that i had only four services which are:
    - OracleDBConsoleORCL
    - OracleJobSchedulerORCL
    - OracleOraDb11g_home1TNSListener
    - OracleServiceORCL
And there is no oracle HTTP server as I had for oracle 9.2 on another machine.
Can Anybody help on this ?
thanks in advance for your help,
    Pierre

    Hi Pierre,
as Tony posted, you usually chose the APEX Listener to access your APEX instance by using a J2EE container (like OAS/OC4J, Oracle WebLogic, Sun Glassfish) rather than using OHS+mod_plsql. So you'd need to search for the service that comprises the J2EE container to which you deployed the war-File for the APEX Listener.
So as it seems you did not deploy to an existing J2EE container (you would not the proper URL...) you probably want to use the embedded web container of the APEX Listener. This container does not register any service and is started on demand.
If you deployed to an existing J2EE container, use its access scheme ( PROTOCOL://HOST:PORT/CONTEXT ) to access the APEX Listener, where CONTEXT is defaulted to apex if you stick to the installation manual. Remember to configure the APEX Listener after deployment via PROTOCOL://HOST:PORT/CONTEXT/listenerConfigure , as described in the installation manual.
Please follow the installation manual for the APEX Listener thoroughly to configure that instance and get the right port to access the service on the machine on which you started that embedded container, probably your localhost.

I don't think there is any matrix that compares TopLink and ADF BC on performance.
With TopLink you are working with POJO so the functionality you build into them is what you get.
With ADF BC you are inheriting classes from Oracle that already have a lot of built-in functionality implemented (Such as query by example on any field, declarative transaction management, easy validation creation and more) - so you end up coding less than TopLink/pure POJO.
In terms of UI - I don't think Flex is dominating anything - it has its own share of problems such as performance, scalability and others.
You should take a look at the ADF Faces Rich Client Components that are coming with JDeveloper 11 if you want more interactive and dynamic UI.
There are various demos and tutorials here:

For sure you are missing a library as the 'Caused by: java.lang.ClassNotFoundException: oracle.j2ee.ws.server.WSForwardServlet' error tells.
You can use 'Tools'->'Manage Libraries' and paste the class name into the search field, search for it and see all libraries which contain the missing class. Add this (one of them) to the projects libs and it should work.
Make sure you deploy to a server which is set up with the correct adf runtime libs (11.1.1.5.0 means you need a WLS 10.3.5 server).
