i am having oracle 9.0.1 CDs for linux but i don't have runinstaller file in the cd. i have the following files on the ist CD

when i searched the CD i found the runInstaller in the following location

now i am confussed as how to start and weather these runistalled scrips are usefull for hte installation.

hi! I manage to install oracle 9i personal of winme. :0
use the universal installer + use the custom installation option + pick the default options in there.
but I lack one user. other faults is still under exploration.

Oracle Help in RH8, not working as it did before

We're building Oracle Help in Robohelp & recently
upgraded to RH8. When I delivered the files to our dev team, the
files won't work. This is what our dev person wrote to me:
When I try to load the Oracle Help I get the following error
message:
oracle.help.library.helpset.HelpSetParseException: Unknown
error when parsing hs file: No toplevel tag in helpset file
I looked at the helpset file and didn’t see anything
different except the first line was changed
from: <?xml version='1.0' ?>
to: <?xml version='1.0' encoding='UTF-8' ?>
I have no idea what this means or what I'm supposed to do.
Obviously something changed in RH8 that affects the build but I
have no idea what our dev team is supposed to do to make it work.
Any suggestions?

when you generated the Oracle Help from RH8, were you able to
view the help on your system. I tried generating Oracle Help on my
RH8 Machine and was able to view the Oracle Help, with out any
error.
you need to specify the encoding type to utf-8 while calling
the java compiler command.
-Dfile.encoding=UTF8
you can check the command line used by RH8, I am pasting the
command sent by RH8 to open the oracle help in correct encoding
type. you can forward the command line to your developer.

Oracle 9i on linux 7.2

I have tried installing oracle 8i and 9i on linux redhat 9 (version 7.4.20) and (version 7.2) multiple times.
I have followed all the instructions on the following links:

however, it seems I can't pass this series of error involving relinking process at 65%.
Error in invoking target relink makefile .../lib/ins_precomp.mk and about ten more like this.
If anyone knows what I am missing here, I really appreciate your response.

I got the same error with version 9.2.0.1 , with version 9.2.0.4 the installation succeeds.
In version 9.2.0.1 there is something about the genclntsh

Why can't i start my oracle 9.2.0.1.0 under Redhat linux 8.0??

When i installing oracle, after copying the files, it telled me "install successfully" , but when it in the procedure: "Linking Oracle9i Database 9.2.0.1.0", it stop and auto exit.
But I think i should have installed finish. So I try to start it. As below:
sqlplus /nolog
SQL> connect / as sysdba
ERROR:
ORA-09925: Unable to create audit trail file
Linux Error: 2: No such file or directory
Additional information: 9925
ORA-01031: insufficient privileges
How can I start it?
Is that because I hadn't set the value of "/proc/sys/kernel/sem" before I install oracle? It's original value is "250 3200 32 128", I don't know what it should be under Redhat Linux 8.0.
Can anybody help me?

Using this I was able to get 9201 installed on both SuSE8.1 and RedHat8.0.
On RH8, You have to hand modify the ins_ctx.mk per his instructions and up the value in /proc/sys/kernel/shmmax per his instructions. I did not hit the binutils issue. Other failures are probably missing rpms, as he describes.

Help in starting 9iDS after installing it in RH8.0

I've just installed the 9iDS in RH8.0, there where some errors during the installation process; however, close it and when resuming the installation just finished perfectly!.
I need to work with Forms and Report Designer, but I don't know how to start the applications for getting them to work. I'll appriciate enormously if someone could helpme with that.
I've read a lot, but I still can't find the way of executing these apps. I remember the famous Windows way: Start > Programs > Oracle ...Click; but how can I do it in RH8.0 with the Shell(I guess, cause there weren't any shortcut created during the installation process).

Lucky you, i've not gone throught the complete install under UnitedLinux...but i know how to start the thing : Have a look under you $ORACLE_HOME and search for a file name forms90.sh or something like that, it is a template of all environnement variables that you have to set for forms to run. The most important one is your DISPLAY. After setting all that stuff you just type the name of the forms executable file (look under $ORACLE_HOME/bin...it should be like f90desm)...sorry for not being precise, its because i'm windozing right now ;)

Better RH version for Oracle 817??

Oracle version: 8.1.7 (can't use oracle 9i)
Hardware: HP DL380
I've options to install on RH7.1, 7.2, 7.3 or RHAS2.1. Which is better?
Reason why I ask is because
8.1.7 + RH7.1 is certified by Oracle, but many drivers (e.g. Insight, raid config) in HP's realm is outdated and not supported anymore.
8.1.7 + RH8.0 seems too and we haven't make it work.
8.1.7 + RHAS2.1 is good, but Oracle explicitly stated no certification is planned, plus RHAS2.1 needs
extra money. But find good support in hardware vendor using RHAS2.1
8.1.7 + RH7.2/7.3 seems a "middle" choice of above. We've experience with RH7.2 + 817, but not RH7.3.
Will it be too difficult (or not work at all?).

9iAS(R1) on RH8

I wanna install 9iAS(Release 1) on RedHat8.0.And I have installed 9i(9.2.0.1) on it.In the progress of installing iAS,it said,"Error in invoking target install of makefile /app/oracle/product/9.2.0/webcache/lib/ins_calypso.mk" at 60 percent of linking time.and i press retry,it doesn't work;i press ignore,and another two error messages appeared.

From your error message, it looks like you are installing 9iAS into the same oracle home as your RDBMS server. Note that 9iAS should go into a separate oracle home. See:

I'm trying to get 9iAS installed on RH8 right now too. I can get all the way through the install and link. You have to delete the "-z defs" out of the bin/genclntsh and sqlplus/lib/env_sqlplus.mk files (which is much easier than downreving the binutils). But, I still get stuck on the OC4J Instance Config Assistant which dies with a permission error.

We are facing some error while invoking a WS-Security secured web service from our BPEL Process on the windows platform(SOA 10.1.3.3.0).

but sttill,after deploying it and passing values in it,we are getting the following error on the console :-
“Header [http://schemas.xmlsoap.org/ws/2004/08/addressing:Action] for ultimate recipient is required but not present in the message”

We've tried to call that web service from an HTML designed in Visual Studios with the same username and password and its working fine.
But on the BPEL console, we are getting the error as mentioned.
Also if you can tell me how to set the user name and password in the header of the parter link.I could not find how to do it.

Is the issue with this specific concurrent program?

HELP! Can not install Oracle 8.1.5 w/ RedHat 6.1!

I can not get Oracle 8.1.5 to install onto Linux RedHat 6.1. The
Oracle installation script generates several errors. I have
tried several attempts, using different options, but they all
generate errors.
Please help. The Oracle Installation scripts appear to be very
buggy... or perhaps they are incompatible with the standard
RedHat 6.1 release. Either way, it is very frustrating.
I have documented one of my (failed) installation attempts below.
Does anyone have any words of wisdom?
I am installing Oracle onto a Dell Latitude CPi PC w/ 128MB RAM,
a 366MHz Pentium II, and RedHat 6.1 (using the standard Linux
2.2.12-2 kernel). RedHat was installed using the standard "Gnome
Workstation" configuration.
The Oralce CD is labeled:
"Oralce 8i Enterprise Edition
Release 8.1.5
for Linux
(c) Oracle Corporation 1999"
I got this CD about one week ago at Oracle OpenWorld '99 in Los
Angeles... it should be their "latest & greatest" version so far.
1. Pre-Installation and ./runInstall
I created an "oracle" Unix account w/ groups "oinstall" (the
primary group) and "dba" (a secondary group).
I created directories /u01 through /u04, belonging to oracle.
I setup .cshrc and sourced it, containing:

setenv DISPLAY `hostname`:0

setenv ORACLE_BASE /u01/app/oracle
setenv ORACLE_HOME ${ORACLE_BASE}/product/8.1.5

chmod a+x root.sh

5. Configuration Tools
The Oracle Installer (./runIns.sh) attempted to execute:
A. Net8 Configuration Agent
B. Oracle Database Configuration Agent
Problem: The "Oracle Database Configuration Agent" failed with
the following error message:
"One or more tools have failed. It is recommended but not
required that these tools succeed for this installation.
You can now select these tools, read its details to examine
why they have failed, fix those problems, and retry them.
Or, you can click "Next" to continue."
When I selected the "Oracle Database Configuration Agent" for
more info, I got the following additional details (as the cause
of the error):

problem. It appears to be an internal bug in ./runIns.sh.
Therefore, I selected "Next" and executed "dbassist" directly.

"JNLS Execution:oracle.ntpg.jnls.JNLSException
Unable to find any National Character Sets. Please
check your Oracle installation."
Workaround: Press "OK" and ignore the error.
7. dbassist (cont.)
I selected the following options:
Create database
Typical
Copy existing database files from the CD
Global Database Name: cprtest.parkrussell.com
SID: cprtest
Problem: I got the following error:
"CD-ROM drive not detected on this system.
Database not created."
(Note: I've been running the installation scripts from the
CDROM drive this entire time. "df" shows the CDROM drive
mounted on /mnt/cdrom. "ls /mnt/cdrom" works too.)
Workaround: Abort (which generated the additional error: "Unable
to create database. DBCA-00003: No CD-ROM drive detected.") and
run dbassist again, this time using different parameters.
8. dbassist, again
I executed "dbassist" again and selected the following options:
Create database
Typical
Create new database files
Hybrid
Concurrently connected users: 5
Options: Oralce interMedia, Oralce JServer, and iM demos
Global Database Name: cprtest2.parkrussell.com
SID: cprtest2
Create database now
Problem: I got the following error:

I gave up for now... there were just too many things wrong with
this installation, starting with the very first command I was
supposed to execute (./runInstaller).
I can't fathom why Oracle's installation script has so many bugs.
Am I just doing something terribly wrong?

I'm using enlightenment version 0.15.5-41, which is more recent
than the 0.15.5-37 version (containing the Oracle installer
patch) that you recommended. Unfortunately, it fails when using
this version.
I also tried installing Oracle using twm, with enlightenment
disabled. This didn't help either.
Furthermore, the errors that I'm encountering in the OUI are
not just toward the end of the installation. They happen from
the very beginning, right after I enter "./runInstall", and
continue every step of the way.

if i have two fileds in a table COL1 have a value of 1010 and COL2 have a value of 0001.
Is there any way to use select col1 or col2 from table? where or is a logical operator?

BITAND is the only logical function that I know of. Many other functions, especially numberical fucntions such as MOD, have applications in logic.

Oracle, Null and empty Strings

Currently I'm facing problems with a class, which contains a String, which
is set to "" (empty String).
When the class is persistent, oracle writes null to the table column
(which seems to be common oracle behaviour) and when retrieving the class,
the field is set to null as well, giving me a lot of null-pointer
exceptions.
Anyway ... I can cope with that (just a lot of extra work)
far worse is the problem, wenn searching objects, that have this field set
to "" oder null.
Oracle can't find the records because JDO creates Querys "where
string=null" or "where string=''" , where oracle expects "where string is
null" to find the records.
Is there a workaround or solution ?

Yeah, that would work as well, thx, but since I have to cope with
null-Strings now everywhere in my program, it doesn't hurt just to forbid
empty strings on the program side.
In future times I'll test on Oracle first, then porting to DB/2 - this way
I suppose work is far less to garant compability.
Nevertheless ... having to set the bankcode into quotes is a kodo bug in
my opinion.
Kodo knows the type of classfields (in this case string) and shouldn't
send the parameter as a BigDecimal to the database.
Given that, and having only bankcodes of null (only neccesary when using
Oracle), the method would look like:
public Collection getAccounts (String bankCode)
throws Exception
return getAccounts (Account.class, "bankcode=="+bankcode);
which is how a transparent persistent layer, um, should be , um , I mean
... just transparent ;-D

As you can see, in the first method I have to set the bankCode into
quotes, when it's not null.
This is because otherwise a filter like "bankCode=1234" will be translated
in a way, where 1234 is send as a BigDecimal to the database:
