Oracle 9.0.1 OUI RuntimeException
Attempting to install Oracle 9i 9.0.1 on a HP-UX 11.00 64bit machine ( no previous Oracle installation on this machine )
I select "Oracle9i Database 9.0.1.0.0" from the Available Products window, click on Next, select "Enterprise Edition(2.70GB)" from the Installation Types window, click on Next and then get an "Error" window with the narrative "An error occured while trying to execute command."
Here is the tail of the "installActions.log". Any thoughts or suggestions welcome.
Thanks
Steve

MaherI noticed later an error says java version is incorrect,
I installed java 1.6 before I installed oracle apps is this correct?Rapid Install installs the Java 2 Standard Edition 1.4.2 automatically for systems running on Solaris, Linux, or Windows operating systems. So, you do not have to install any JDK/J2SE before starting the installation.
Also, make sure you have a valid entry in the hosts file and you can ping the IP address as well as the hostname. -
Can't install Oracle 8.1.7 on Redhat 7.2
Please, I have a problem, as i told in the subject.
I ran the runInstaller script from the oracle Cdrom but the OUI
doesn't appear. After a ps in the command line i see that jre
and runInstaller are running.
Any idea ?I have the same question.
Pls pay attention, the running JRE is not the JRE provided by JDK. U can run "ps aux" in the command line to proove it.
But my java runs well in my computer. How can I start the OUI? -
Oracle 9i on Windows 2003 server - DBCA error
1. This is the error message that I get when I am trying to install the 9.2.0.3 software in a new oracle home. There is a 10g database which sits in a different Oracle home. The OUI runs smoothly until it comes to the point where the Database Config Assistant tool starts running and then I get this error and the installer hangs. Could anyone let me know why I might be getting this error.

FYI - I have installed the OUI patch Oracle Universal Installer release 2.2.0.18.0 for Windows and the Oracle9i Database Release 2 (9.2.0.3.0) Patch Set for Windows after I installed the 9.2.0.1 database software.
I then tried to run the DBCA tool from the 'Start > Programs>Oracle 9ihome>' menu to create the new Oracle 9.2.0.3 database but the DBCA assistant would not start up.
2. I have a related question:
Has anybody performed a downgrade of Oracle 10g database to Oracle 9.2.0.3 database using export/import?
Can you perform a full database export of the Oracle 10g database using the 9.2.0.3 export utility and then perform a full database import into Oracle 10g? I have read some documentation that states this is not possible. Can anyone verify or confirm how they did this migration? So is the only option then to perform a table or user level export?
Also, if both the databases reside on the same Windows 2003 server box, how can you ensure that the source database files are not overwritten?
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks,
Vishal. It only happens when you have oracle 10g and Oracle 9i on the same machine.
You can run 9i dbca successfully, if you rename the 10g "orasrvm.DLL" found in any 10g BIN directory. Rename it back after you are 9i dbca is complete.
Please complete details for this issue see

Oracle Database 10g: Administration Workshop I Part 1 CD
On the first learning CD for Database 10g Administration, there is an incorrectly displayed question.
Oracle Database 10g Workshop -> Installing an Oracle Database -> Installation Using OUI -> Page 21
Question is: To Locally manage the databases stored on one or multiple computers, you select:
A. the Configure the Database with Enterprise Manager check box on the Management Options page.
B. etc.
C. etc.
D. the Raw Devices option button on the Store Options page.
When the correct answer (A) is selected, the dialogue displayed states:
'That is incorrect. The Raw Devices option is used to manage the storage devices outside the OS file system. Try again'
As if D was selected instead of A. If D is selected, the message is:
That is correct. The Configure the Database with Enterprise Manager option enables you to locally manage the databases stored in one or multiple computers.
It seems as though the links next to question A and D are flipped.Hello,
I have used it and couple of others workshop in CD format and it is worth buying. Make sure you have a database setup where you can play all the excercise available in workshop. Beside that I have also attended instructer led training, though self-study course material pretty much same but you can't replace an experienced instructor and his insights. I recommend if you can at least one instrcuter led training beside your self-study course it will be really helpful to you.

Oracle 10g r2 install in Fedora 13
Hi all,
I am a new Fedora guy. I get trouble to install Oracle 10g r2 in Fedora 13.
The following is error message:
[oracle@localhost database]$ ./runInstaller
./runInstaller: /home/oracle/software/database/install/.oui: /lib/ld-linux.so.2: bad ELF interpreter: No such file or directory
Who can help me? Please give me detail guide.
Thanks!Hi,
Seems a problem related to your glibc install. Are you sure you have the required packages ?
Don't know if your version is a 32 bits or a 64 bits one but check this link (32 bits) :
http://www.oracle.com/pls/db102/to_toc?pathname=install.102%2Fb28052%2Ftoc.htm&remark=portal+%28Installation%29
or this link (64 bits)
http://www.oracle.com/pls/db102/to_toc?pathname=install.102%2Fb15668%2Ftoc.htm&remark=portal+%28Installation%29
and follow carefully the instructions (Redhat instructions)

Oracle 9i Database 9.2.0.1.0 Issues...
Hi Friends,
I downloaded the Oracle DB 9i Enterprise Edition (9.2.0.1) from Oracle's website for my class assignment. When I got to the screen that says "Installation types" Oracle 9i Database 9.2.0.1.0 and hit the NEXT button the universal installer disappears with no warning right at 36%. So then I tried to choose "Custom" instead of Enterprise Edition and the same exact thing happened. My computer specs are as follows:
O/S: Windows XP Professional
CPU: 2.8 Ghz
Phys. Memory: 1,024 MB
Available Physical Memory: 324 MB
Hard Disk: 210 GB free space
I would appreciate ANY help as my assignment is due on Monday. I have uninstalled and reinstalled so many times and nothing seems to work. My friend suggested that there may be a DLL file causing conflict somewhere. I don't know...I just need help and I am so frustrated with this! Thanks.Hello Everyone,
I found a log file in c:\program files\oracle\inventory\logs. I am not sure if this will show anything but I am so desparate right now that I am willing to try just about anything. So...below please find my log file when I tried to do the install. If this is the wrong log file, can you please tell me where to go to get the right one. Thanks friends! This is the most frustrating thing...

Calling query SIDQueries1.2.4 getAllOracleHomes -
Hi,
I've read through here hoping to find someone else that has seen this strangeness, but no such luck.
I have setup SLES9 sp2 on an HP DL585 (ProLiant) and then started the process of installing Oracle 10g EE. I followed all the instructions for setup, such as checking the rpm versions, kernel parameters, and oracle user setup.
When I start the installer, via the command: ./runInstaller
it gets a segmentation violation in the program: ./install/.oui
Here's some detailed output (below). As you can see from the gdb backtrace, it is crashing in a string function in libc, although I'm not clean on why it picked that up from /lib/tls
Has anyone seen this problem or have any clues about how I can diagnose it?
Thanks,
Brian

I somehow missed that my swap space never got created during the SuSE install. Once I turned on file system swap, it all worked.
Note to any Oracle employees: Kinda looks like a bug in OUI, huh?
Anyway, isn't it funny how you write something out to the net and then the answer comes to you?

Upgrade oracle to 10.2.0.4 : error with runinstaller
I have oracle 10.2.0.1.0 a 32 bit machine on linux
I would like to install the patch for oracle 10.2.0.4 :6010189
but I get the error when I start runinstaller
./runInstaller
./runInstaller: line 72: /home/oracle/Desktop/Disk1/install/.oui: No such file or directory
what does it mean?Where on your computer did you download the patch set to? After downloading it, where did you extract it to? For example, if you have a directory named downloads and it is located at /downloads, you could download the patch set to this directory. Extracting the patch set to this directory would give you a directory structure for the .oui file of /downloads/Disk1/install/.oui . The runInstaller file would be in /downloads/Disk1/ .

How to install oracle 8i Enterprise on windows2000 prosfessional ?
I installed Oracle8i Enterprise in Windows 2000 Advanced
Server, but failed to install it in windows 2000 professional.
These are the phenomenas:
1. When I insert the CD into CD-ROM , it pop up a window which
let me to install Oracle 8i .
2. When I clicked the install button ,The install window hidee
and the mouse 's pointer changed to busy pointer . After a
while it exit without no response.
Who can help me to solve this problem.
Best RegardsIs your Windows 2000 server installed on a box with a Pentium 4
processor with the Sun JRE or Symantic JIT? If so, the problem
could be with the JAVA interpretor. I've heard of several
people having run into this problem before.
Typically, the failure is that the affected JAVA application
simply terminates. With Oracle, not only will OUI(Oracle
Universal Installer) be affected by this bug, but most of the
post-install configuration tools will also be affected(Oracle
OUI, and Oracle products are written in JAVA).
Any platform that uses the Intel Pentium 4 processor, with the
Sun JRE and Symantec JIT will encounter this problem. The OUI
and Oracle 8i are written in a newer version of JAVA. Windows
NT, Windows 2000, and Netware platforms are confirmed to be
affected. Specifically for the Windows platform, the following
version of the Symmantec JIT or earlier will encounter the
failure: Symantec Java! JustInTime Compiler Version 3.10.107 for
JDK 1.2.
To determine if your server has Symmantec Java for JDK 1.2:
1. Press start menu. Select find files or folders, searching
for "symcjit.dll"
2. Right-click on it and select properties then the Version tab.
3. Under Microsoft Windows*, the properties of the DLL
are: "Symantec Java! JustInTime Compiler Version 3.10.107 for
JDK 1.2 Copyright (C)1996-99 Symantec Corporation Dynamic
Link Library file. DLLs older than this will also not work.
If you have the old version here is the recommended fix:(NOTE!!
I haven't tried this to see if it actually works!!!!!!)
4. Download JRE release 1.3.1 from
http://java.sun.com/j2se/index.html#jre1.1
Install it.
There is also a problem in the Oracle 8i installation disk.
5. Make a copy of the Oracle 8i disk on the local hard disk,
i.e. C:/temp.
6. Do a search for the file called symcjit.dll and rename it
symcjit.old.
7. Install Oracle from the win32 directory.
Again, I haven't done the fix, so I don't really know first-hand
if it works, but by doing steps 1-3 you can at least pinpoint
the problem. You can find out more on how to fix it by
researching on the web.
Hope this helps! -
Dear,
I have four questions as follows:
1.I download the "Oracle Database 10g Release 2 (10.2.0.1.0) for Microsoft Windows (32-bit)" from www.oracle.com.I uncompress the files to harddisk with WinRAR 3.8.But when I run the "setup" to install the Oracle, the install report "oui.exe-Application Error:The instruction at '0x38305f34' referenced memory at '0x38305f34'.The memory could not be 'read'"!
My operation system is Windows 2000 Server with Service Pack4.My IE version is 6.0SP1.My memory is 512MB DDR.
How to solve the problem?
2.By the way, where can I download the "Sun Java Access Bridge 1.0.4" and "JAWS screen reader 5.0"?
3.What is the difference betweet the "Oracle Database 10g Companion CD Release 2" "Oracle Database 10g Client Release 2" "Oracle Clusterware Release 2" ?What are the three products used for?
4.Which version Oracle Database for RedHat Linux 9 or earlier version Redhat such as 9 8.0 6.2?(NOTICE:Not for REDHAT Enterprise Service)
Thanks!user12873253 wrote:

How to solve the problem?Have you read the fine Installation Guide and the Release Notes that came with the software? Have you met all the installation prerequisites?

2.By the way, where can I download the "Sun Java Access Bridge 1.0.4" and "JAWS screen reader 5.0"?The release notes indicate that "Sun Java Access Bridge 1.0.4 [is] (included with the Oracle Database 10g Release 2 (10.2) media)"
For the Jaws screen reader - I never heard of it so simply googled "Jaws Screen Reader". The vendor (which is not oracle) was the very first hit.
>
3.What is the difference betweet the "Oracle Database 10g Companion CD Release 2" "Oracle Database 10g Client Release 2" "Oracle Clusterware Release 2" ?What are the three products used for? Oracle Database 10g Companion CD contains some sample schemas and some add-on products. Details are available in the Companion CD Installation Guide.
Oracle Database 10g Client contains just the client software, which is also included on the full database installation, but would be used on machines (like desktops and app servers) that need to access a database that lives on some other machine.
Oracle Clusterware is about what it sounds like. The software for installing Oracle Clusterware. More info at http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/B19306_01/rac.102/b14197/admcon.htm#RACAD1111
Learning how to look things up in the documentation is time well spent investing in your career. To that end, you should drop everything else you are doing and do the following:
Go to tahiti.oracle.com.
Drill down to your product and version.
<b><i><u>BOOKMARK THIS LOCATION</u></i></b>
Spend a few minutes just getting familiar with what is available here. Take special note of the "books" and "search" tabs. Under the "books" tab you will find the complete documentation library.
Spend a few minutes just getting familiar with what <b><i><u>kind</u></i></b> of documentation is available there by simply browsing the titles under the "Books" tab.
Open the Reference Manual and spend a few minutes looking through the table of contents to get familiar with what <b><i><u>kind</u></i></b> of information is available there.
Do the same with the SQL Reference Manual.
Do the same with the Utilities manual.
You don't have to read the above in depth. They are <b><i><u>reference</b></i></u> manuals. Just get familiar with <b><i><u>what</b></i></u> is there to <b><i><u>be</b></i></u> referenced. Ninety percent of the questions asked on this forum can be answered in less than 5 minutes by simply searching one of the above manuals.
Then set yourself a plan to dig deeper.
- Read a chapter a day from the Concepts Manual.
- Take a look in your alert log. One of the first things listed at startup is the initialization parms with non-default values. Read up on each one of them in the Reference Manual.
- Take a look at your listener.ora, tnsnames.ora, and sqlnet.ora files. Go to the Network Administrators manual and read up on everything you see in those files.
- When you have finished reading the Concepts Manual, do it again.
Give a man a fish and he eats for a day. Teach a man to fish and he eats for a lifetime.

Using OUI for installing custom products
Hi All,
I want to use OUI to install a custom product that I have developed. So i have some doubts regarding that...
1. Can OUI be pointed to a new Products.xml file which contains the details of the new product installation.
2. Is there some link, documentation, APIs to do that?
Any sort of help is appreciated as it is crucial...
Thanks,
SaurabhSHI user784664
I'm afraid that you can't do that. Products.xml can be use to perform silent installed, When prompted by OUI, locate products.xml in the installation source directory:
i.e connectors/framework/10.2.0.2/1.0/source/Disk1/stage
Oracle Universal Installer to install Oracle products in any of the three following modes:
* Interactive:
Use OUI's interactive mode to use the graphical user interface to walk through the installation, providing information in the installation dialogs when prompted.
This method is most useful when installing a small number of products in different setups on a small number of machines
* Suppressed:
Use OUI's suppressed mode to supply the necessary information by using a combination of a response file or command line entries with certain interactive dialogs. You can choose which dialogs to suppress by supplying the information at the command line when you invoke OUI. This method is most useful when an installation has a common set of parameters that can be captured in a response file, in addition to custom information that must be input by hand.
* Silent:
Use OUI's silent installation mode to bypass the graphical user interface and supply the necessary information in a response file. This method is most useful when installing the same product multiple times on multiple machines. By using a response file, you can automate the installation of a product for which you know the installation parameters.
Herewith the detailled documentation about OUI:
http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/B19306_01/em.102/b16227/toc.htm
But may be a request via metalink it should be possible to get more details about that question. Oracle is using the OUI API for Grid controller, CRS, ASM and RDBMS so why not with your product.
