Hi,
When i am trying to install 9i version on linux after 17% at copying of file naeet.o installation get stucked.
Please help me for fix this issue.
thanks
Nirav

<snip>
Please let me know complete details so not going to
find any issue while installation of oracle 10G.
Complete details are in the installation guide that comes with the software, and is also available in the complete doc set for your product/version, located at tahiti.oracle.com
I also have few other question hope you can help me
out on that
(1) I have one big production database where uses
working 24*7 and i want to migrate that database with
less downtime than what method i have to use for
migration?
Less downtime than what. Exactly what are your requirements? What is prompting the migration?
Second question is:If my linux system is showing 100%
utilisation than is there any way that temporary i
can take down to 95% or whatever the minimum
utilisation i can take..is there any way to reduce
temporary utilisation?
100% utilization of what resource?
Third is:I have created one db file in tablespace
than after utilisation of datbase get increase so i
want to remove it from system or that table space but
there is heavy transaction is going on that table so
is there any way through which i can remove that
dbfile without data loss and less downtime?
If you added a file to a tablespace, and there is now data in that file, how would you expect to remove the file without loss of data? Why do you want to remove the file?

    Notes:
I'm running Oracle 8.1.6 on a different box then the Portal application. I loaded the Oracle Client on my machine(with Portal). I've gone through the Portal installation instructions many times and I'm almost certain I've configured everything correctly(but obviously not). I've also gone through the Net8 Assistant to see if I can get a connection and can.. I've made sure my db is up by using SQL Plus. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I thought I was out of the woods but have gotten some strange behavior. I'm able to work inside of the Portal application.. then I got this error..

This is sort of the same thing from before. As soon as it happened I tested things out like:
testing out the Oracle HTTP Server
    - Apache
    - Jserv (demo)
    - modplsql
for connectivity. I'm able to click on the above links and see that they are working. Then I brought down the OracleportalHTTPServer service and restarted.
I then tried to use SQL Plus to test db connectivity using Username: internal Password:xxxx with the service name but it spits back:
TNS:listener failed to start a dedicated server process. It seems no matter who I try and login as using SQL Plus I get the same thing. As I mentioned before I have the db on another machine with the Portal application & Oracle 8.1.6 Client on my machine. I didn't configure anything after I installed the 8.1.6 Enterprise Edition.. I was able to bring up the Portal page with no problems. Am I missing something.. seems very strange that I'm able to work in the application for a bit and then have it die on me.
I jumped onto the machine with my db.. brought down the TNSListener on that end, brought down the db service (OracleServiceXXX)and brought it back up and was able to use SQL Plus on this machine and get a connection to the db. I then got back on my machine, brought down the OracleportalHTTPServer service on my side, brought it back up and used SQL Plus to show a connection to the db. Thoughts??

I noticed later an error says java version is incorrect,
I installed java 1.6 before I installed oracle apps is this correct?Rapid Install installs the Java 2 Standard Edition 1.4.2 automatically for systems running on Solaris, Linux, or Windows operating systems. So, you do not have to install any JDK/J2SE before starting the installation.
Also, make sure you have a valid entry in the hosts file and you can ping the IP address as well as the hostname.

As far as I remember (I dont remember much) the -u option automatically entered system/********** which did not succeed. The -c option gives the option of entering username/password but I didnt know what to enter. I tried entering <SID>adm/password but that did not work.

    Hi,
    >> The -c option gives the option of entering username/password but I didnt know what to enter.
"-c" means that brconnect does not require a confirmation during the process
    >>  As far as I remember (I dont remember much) the -u option automatically entered system/********** which did not succeed.
"-u /" means that brconnect will connect to the database with OPS$ mechanism.
At this stage, could you download and patch latest br*tools from SAP Marketplace?

    Hello!
I also tried to install Oracle 8.1.6.1 (after giving up the 8.0.5 installation due to segmentation faults all over..), it also failed.
After trying to install Oracle 8.1.6.1 on RedHat 7.0 and it still crashed, i sent a mail to some guru that wrote the oracle-how-to document for redhat, here is what he replied.
    My guess is that this also applies to the newest slackware version, because i presume that slackware 7.0 also use the newest glibc libraries;
    Thanks for the feedback.
Oracle 8.1.6 does not work under Red Hat >Linux 7. Yes, that's the problem
that I mentioned in the doc--you get to 80% >and the DBCA crashes and the
    Oracle executables die.
I've heard, but I haven't tried it myself, >that if you install the latest
glibc errata (2.1.94) then the DBCA >completes but the Oracle executables
still die. The DBCA problem was apparently >a Java issue that is fixed in
the errata. But you're still out of luck >since the exes won't work.
It might appear that this is a problem with >Red Hat Linux 7. But it appears
that it is a problem with some assumptions >that Oracle made, assumptions
that worked with glibc 2.1.3 (the C library >included with RHL 6.2) but which
prove false with later glibc versions. As >other Linux distributions adopt

The best advice I can give at this point is >to install and run Oracle on
Red Hat Linux 6.2. Hopefully Oracle will >address the glibc issues with the
    8.1.7 release.
ChrisI then installed Orace on RedHat 6.1 and it worked like a dream.
Maybe you guys should try your luck on an earier version of slackware?
    Hope that helped...

  • Oracle database 11g release 2 installation problem on windows 7 (64-bit)

First of all my windows is not genuine, but on my friend's desktop oracle download and installation  worked fine, he chose "create and configure database" options, and it works very well on his desktop, though his windows is also illegitimate. In my case, when I select "Create and configure database" option and pressed 'next",
(Go to my blog to see it with snapshots: Computer Science: Oracle database 11g release 2 installation problem on windows 7 (64-bit))
it asks to select class, I select "Desktop class" and pressed "next". The moment I pressed "next", the whole setup thing disappeared like it was never started. I searched for all possible reasons for why its not getting installed on my laptop, I used registry cleaner s/w,  deleted 25 GB of data to create free space if it were the problem, increased the virtual memory to increase the space for RAM, I did almost everything to get this setup working, but I found no success with the "Create and Configure database" option
    and
    then
I chose a "database software only" option and chose to store in a folder w/o spaces. This way, I got database s/w only and then later I found "Database configuration Assistant (DBCA)"  from windows START button and clicked to create and configure database manually. The steps are pretty much interactive and doesn't involve much brainstorming.
    The values I filled for
    1) Global Database Name :  orcl
    2) System Identifier : orcl
    3) I chose common password for both SYS and SYSTEM
    4) while on Enterprise Manager Configuration step, It asked me to create and configure listener in oracle home, so for that too, I typed "netca" in windows START menu and clicked it. There I added a listener.
    5) I chose a Storage area which was the Oracle-home itself i.e. where our installation files goes , in my case it is : C:\oracle_base\product\11.2.0\dbhome_1\oradata
    6) Then after few more nitty-gritty clicks, we are set to go !
Finally to write SQL code and to create your first TABLE , type "sqlplus" in windows "START" menu and click it when it appears. A command-prompt like window appears , which will ask you for username and password, so here they are :
    Username : sys/ as sysdba
Password : (its the one you created in step 3 stated above )
After this you are ready to write your first SQL command.

Is this your solution to your original post at Oracle database 11g release 2 installation on windows 7 (64-bit) ?
Pl be aware that you should not create any custom objects in SYS or SYSTEM schema - you should create any such objects in a separate custom schema.

Any suggestions/patches needed? How can I prevent the Oracle

    Thank you.

Intel says there is a bug in oracle's OUI as well other swing based programs. The solution is to copy the CD to local drive and add -nojit as first parameter to JRE_MEMORY_OPTIONS e.g. JRE_MEMORY_OPTIONS="-nojit -mx32m"
This will enable OUI to run. Even after installing oracle Net80 conf. asst won't start due to same reason.
Go to HOME\admin\tools\ and edit netca.cl and netasst.cl to add same -nojit before -classpath.
Do this for every tool that gives this prob such DBA studio...

    # Do not remove the following line, or various programs
    # that require network functionality will fail.
    127.0.0.1          oracle localhost.localdomain localhost
    ::1          localhost6.localdomain6 localhost6
is this ok? what can I do to bring the database-installation to success?
    Thank's for help ;-)

I'm facing the same error message while install Siebel 8.0 on OEL. But before I had this ksh problem, it complains about disc space first, and I actually has plenty of disk space under the directory (it needs only 0.7 G and I have 17G free). Anybody has encountered such problem before?

  • Oracle 8.0.5 Post Installation Problem

    Hi all,
I have installed Oracle 8.0.5.1 is installed on my RH 6.0 box.
However, I am running into a couple of post-installation
    problems.
    1. root.sh (sucessfully ran).
    2. glibc patch (successfuly ran). There were a few errors on the
screen with the "mv" commands (file does not exist). Is tha
    alright?
    3. catrep.sql (problem). This is where I have a problem.
I ran dbstart as oracle805 (installation account), but I have no
idea whether or not I really started the database. ps -aux did
    not yield any clue.
I also tried svrmgrl and "startup", but the file "initXXX.ora"
did not exist, so I copied the existing "init.ora" to
"initXXX.ora". XXX is my ORACLE_SID. Instead alert_XXX.log gave
    me the following:
    ORA-00202: controlfile: 'ora_control1'
ORA-27037: unable to obtain file status
So, in other words, I have no idea whether or not I have
successfully installed Oracle. All insights are greatly
    appreciated.
    Thanks a bunch...

  • Installation problems in MSCS ORACLE 10.2 ECC 6.00

I am writing to report some unexpected installation problems. I am installing SAP ECC 6.00 in a MSCS cluster environment (Windows 2003 / Oracle 10.2) in our production environment and I am having problems during the installing the central instance phase. The sapinst_dev shows the following error: “CJS-30102  Checking the database for installation type failed”, Also the jsourcecheck.log shows  the following error: “com. sap. engine. frame. core. configuration. Configuration Exception: Error while connecting to DB” and  “java. sql. SQLException: Excepción de E/S: The Network Adapter could not establish the connection     at oracle. jdbc.driver.  DatabaseError. throwSqlException (DatabaseError.java:112)”
The database is currently running without any problem and all the services (SAP and Oracle) as well.
Following the installation guide, I performed the almost all the steps successfully:
    •     Oracle RDBMS, patches and Oracle fail safe software on both nodes (successfully)
    •     Install the central services instance for ABAP (ASCS) on the first MSCS node (successfully)
    •     Install the central services instance (SCS) on the first MSCS node (successfully)
    •     Cluster the first MSCS node (successfully)
    •     Install the database instance on the first MSCS node (successfully)
    •     Cluster the additional MSCS node (successfully)
    •     Install an enqueue replication server(successfully)
    •     Perform additional steps for the Oracle Fail Safe configuration (successfully)
    •     Create the Oracle Fail Safe group (successfully)
    •     Set up as shared database directory in your Oracle Home (successfully)
    •     Add the Oracle database resource to the Fail Safe group (successfully)
    •     install the central instance (Failed)
    •     install at least one dialog instance (not installed yet)
As you can observe, I have performed the create oracle fail safe group activity first and then the install the central instance later. Reading the sap note 967121 today, I just realized that there is a wrong installation sequence; the sap note 967121 (actualized date: 17/OCT/07 ) says that “you must install the central instance before you create the Oracle Fail Safe group”.  Is this sequence compulsory? Or can I continue the installation process?
If this sequence is compulsory do I have to reinstall all the predecessor activities or should I undo just the create oracle fail safe group activity?
Please let me know if the error which is showed in the installation of the central instance phase is because the wrong sequence or it is due to another reason.
    Our cluster configuration is:
    4 network card
    Public network cards:
    Ip:192.168.2.240 (hostname: ccaribe3rp1, Node A)
    Ip: 192.168.2.241 (hostname: ccariber3p2, node B)
    Private network cards:
    Ip: 10.10.10.1 (hostname: ccaribe3rp1.ceramicascaribe.com, node A
    Ip: 10.10.10.2 (hostname: ccaribe3rp2.ceramicascaribe.com, node B
    Clustergroup:
    Cluster group name: SAPPRO
Cluster group Virtual IP: 192.168.2.239, network name: SAPPRO (subnet mask 255.255.255.0)
    SAP cluster group:
Sap clustergroup virtual IP: 192.168.2.238, network name: sapgrp (subnet mask 255.255.255.0)
    Database cluster group:
Database cluster group virtual Ip: 192.168.2.237, network name: dbgrp (subnet mask: 255.255.255.0)
We have performed the mapping of the host names to the IP addresses on the windows host file already.
I would be very grateful if someone kindly can help me to solve this problem.
    Best Regards
    Boris Romero

    Hello Boris,
one of the main problems is that step
"Create the Oracle Fail Safe group (successfully)"
cannot be successful because you need to run configtool and change the secure store as described in installation guide. At this stage the configtool does not exists (documentation error for ECC6.0 guide), so the correct sequence is to install CI and cluster the DB, but not vice versa.
Which stage is the sapinst braking up?
Is this beginning, middle or end of installation?
Did you try to run configtool and modify secure store?
    best regards

  • Installation Problems with Oracle 8i and Win98

Yesterday I tried installing Oracle 8i Personal Edition from CD. I completed installation up to "Database Creation in Progress", initializing phase. It stuck at 85%. The CD did not make any noise, and it stayed at 85% for 53 minutes.
