Oracle 9.2.0.1 Standard Edition Silent Installation using Response file
Does Oracle 9i Standard Edition come in 3 CDs??. I heard problems about providing response files to silent install Oracle 9.2.0.1 server.
I am about receive a licensed copy of Oracle 9i and I am looking at creating a response file for silent installation.
Is it necessary to copy contents of 3 CDs into one location on a harddrive on our users Server inorder for response file to work???
We will be installing Oracle 9.2.0.1 on Win2000 server.
I really appreciate any help.
Thanks

Automating Oracle Server Installation using response file
I am automating Oracle Server Installation using response file. No Installer page should be displayed, except 'Optional Config Tools' page at the end of the installation showing the list of optional configuration tools e.g Net Configuration Assistant, Database Configuration Assistant, and Intelligent Agent Configuration Assistant. All other pages would not be displayed.
My response file doesn't seem to work this way. During installation, it displays the 'Create Database' page asking whether you want Database Configuration Assistant to be automatically launched at the end of the installation for database creation. How do I prevent this page from displaying, while selecting default option (Yes) using response file?Provide info about the OS you are using and Oracle version.

Error in EM console after silent install using response file
Hi,
I'm trying to install oracle 10g release 2 (10.2.0.1.0) on RHEL 5 using a response file by the silent installation method. The response file itself had been generated by running a normal GUI based installation along with the record option. The same file is later being used for the aforesaid silent installation. All the installation steps go on smoothly and all the messages confirm that the installation was successfull. The database is opening and functioning smoothly on the SQL prompt and so are the listener and EM dbconsole service. But when I try to access the EM Console on the web browser, it gives a 500 Internal Error java.lang.NullPointerException.
The following is the exact grab of the error

shashwathHi,
Try restarting the listener service
lsnrctl stop LISTENER
lsnrctl start LISTENER
and then start the EM service.
emctl start dbconsole
If in windows try restarting the services in control panel>Adminstartive tools>services and restart OracleOraDb10g_home1TNSListener.
then start the EM console. -
Silent Installs using spec files
I want to deploy LV 8.2, CVI, Signal Express, and the toolkits. Can't use AD Group Policies because the NI MSI files are not true MSI files.
I have worked out a batch file to silently install however in the spec files I put in the userinfo section the following:
[UserInfo]
Name=John Doe
Company=ACME Inc..
SerialNo=99999999
Since I have to deploy this to several people as well as serveral debug machines how do I handle the different user information? On something like a silent install of MS Office you can leave this information blank and it will prompt you for the registration on the first run. Is there something similar in LV or do I have to create spec files for every user?Here is the batch file for installing LV 8.2, CVI, Toolkits, and Drivers (ignore the hyperlink format). Notice that some of these don't use spec files as command line parameters and some do. There are three different sets of command line switches for these items as well. Some of the toolkits just don't install silently. This one developers suite uses 4 different methods of installation.
I really don't think that an easy install is to much to ask for a program that costs $4000 per seat and $1000 per year.
(BTW, in this version of the bat file I used /passive so I can see what is causing some issues, normally it would be /quiet)

Problem installing Oracle 8i(8.1.7) standard edition on windows 2000 server
I am trying to install Oracle 8i (8.1.7) standard edition on windows 2000 server but the setup program doesn't run.
It starts up, allocates some ram then closes before a window even pops up.
I also have MSSQL server installed on this computer, does that conflict?
Has anyone encountered this problem before? If so, please give a solution if you have one, thanks,
OPSYes. There is a bug with Pent4, Win2000 & Oracle8i.
Here is the workaround:
This is a known bug with Oracle java-based applications and Pentium 4 Use this work-around:
1) Copy the install directory from the CD to the hard disk.
2) Edit oraparam.ini and modify it as follows:
* Edit the "SOURCE=" line to to show the full path to the CD ; SOURCE={CD DRIVE LETTER}:\stage\products.jar)
* Edit the "JRE_LOCATION" line to show the full path to the CD ;
JRE_LOCATION={CD DRIVE
LETTER}:\stage\Components\oracle\swd\jre\1.1.7\1\DataFiles\Expanded)
* Edit the "OUI_LOCATION" line to show the full path to the CD ;
OUI_LOCATION={CD DRIVE
LETTER}:\stage\Components\oracle\swd\oui\1.6.0.9.0\1\DataFiles\Expanded
* Edit the "JRE_MEMORY_OPTIONS" line to include "-nojit" as the first argument ;
JRE_MEMORY_OPTIONS=-nojit
-ms16m -mx32m
3) Start setup.exe from your hard drive
Choose a Custom install and choose not to create a database during the install.
This way, the Database
Configuration Assistant will not be launched during installation. DONT SELECT
NET8 products for installation.
You need to put the same java parameters for the DB configurator and the Net8
Configurator
to run.
-nojit -ms16m -mx32m before -classpath on:
* assistants\dbca\DBAssist.cl
* network\tools\netca.cl
** Run the DataBaseConfigurationAssistant and NetworkConfigurationAssistant after installation.
Hope it helps!

How i install oracle client with ODBC using response file method
Hi,
I have managed to create a response file using OUI. Currently, I do not know what are the methods which i can install a group of computers using this response file. Any advise
Thanks in advance.
Best regards,
TonyPresumably, any method that allows you to remotely run code on the group of computers would allow you to do a silent install of the Oracle client and ODBC driver. I know Microsoft and various third parties sell such tools, but I'm not enough of a Windows admin to know anything about the relative benefits of the products in this category.

Best method for silent-auto DBCA : response file OR dbca scripts ?
As far as I discovered there are 2 alternatives on creating silently a Database
1. Generate scripts from DBCA itself at end and run the batch - even if you have to make some modification to pass dynamically the DB Name or other parameters eachtime
2. Execute a dbca response file
What are the differences ?
Which is the best (more reliable) ?
Windows 7 11.2g EE
Thank youThose scripts are definitely much slower than directly running the dbca binary. dbca has its own way of specifying all the required parameters as command line arguments directly without any response files.
If you're relying on response files, you need extra programming effect to fill all the required entries in them based upon the environment and user's input and chances of introducing vulnerability is a bit higher as commands like sed/awk etc you use to fill the response files may behave weirdly sometimes (i'm not saying this happens always but there's a chance).
If you're giving everything inline as an argument,and you can use environment variables etc.. as arguments..so less chances of missing something
You can check the dbca documentation if it supports much more arguments..i listed whatever i used. And I'm not sure if response files support more arguments than this (i think this has covered pretty much all important ones).
If you want to do instance level parameter changes, you can always do them after creating the database (of course you can automate that by putting a sample init file with all required changes like SGA size wtc.. and restart the instance with that file...everything automated and executed in a flow after the initial db creation).

I’m creating a silent installer for my LabWINDOWS CVI apps and I’m installing LabVIEW RTE 8.2.1 (for DataSockets) and CVI RTE 8.0.1.
If I use the self extracting *.zip files and manually install the above RTE’s everything is fine with no problems. However I want to create an installer exe and install the RTE’s silently. My problem is that when I execute the CVIRTE.msi (either silently or manually) the respective CVIRTE.dll, MESA.dll etc are not installed.
I’m expecting the CVI *.dll’s to be in the system dir – is this output path correct for the msi file?
I’ve also searched the C:\Program Files\National Instruments\... for the dll’s to no avail?
I’m I missing some other CVI msi file to execute in order to install the respecting dll’s?
Notes:
I’m executing the msi file on a XP pro SP2 machine with Administrative rights.
I haven’t got around to installing and testing the lv82runtime.msi yet (LabVIEW RTE 8.2.1), which I need for DataSockets. Can you pre-empt any issues, like the above, I may have regarding any respective dll’s etc for DataSockets?Sorry I posted it in the wrong forum - now also in LabWINDOWS/CVI

Hi,
We got a "strange" error installing Oracle db on MS win Ser 2003. When the installation procedure created the database it stopped with Ora-604 and Ora-2248. My first thought was the language problem but I'm not sure.
Below you'll see the trace.log
If anyone can give me a clue, it would most appreciated !
Thanks a lot,
Jacques

************************************************************Yes, there's a known problem, not with german language, but with territory Switzerland, see on metalink:
ORA-604 / ORA-02248 WITH NLS_LANG SET TO TERRITORY SWITZERLAND
Doc ID: 334481.1
ORA-02248 is only the last error, you have others:
StepErrorHandler.setFatalErrors:322 setting Fatal Error: ORA-01092
Thread-3 12:33:59:88 StepErrorHandler.setFatalErrors:322 setting Fatal Error: ORA-01034
Thread-3 12:33:59:88 StepErrorHandler.setFatalErrors:322 setting Fatal Error: ORA-03114
Thread-3 12:33:59:88 StepErrorHandler.setFatalErrors:322 setting Fatal Error: ORA-12560
Thread-3 12:33:59:88 StepErrorHandler.setIgnorableErrors:250 setting Ignorable Error: ORA-01109
Not sure whether this related to the same problem. As a workaround you may change the territory, for example to GERMANY. If that works you hit the bug mentioned in the metalink not. Normally NLS_LANG is set in the registry.

Oracle manually standby database with standard edition
Hi, I want to have a plan for disaster. I'm triying with two virtual machines with oracle database 10g on suse linux. I follow these URLs
http://www.dbasupport.com/oracle/ora10g/manual_standby.shtml
http://oramdq.blogspot.com/2009/05/como-configurar-un-sistema-de-alta.html
and it look that work all right.
I know that with manually standby database we applied archived logs, and so, we don't propagate any physical changes to secondary database (standby), for example, if I create a new tablespace, or adding a new datafile to an existing tablespace, it don't work in the secondary database.
Anyone does know how is the better way to apply the physical changes??
Anyone have any scripts to do that?
Thanks in advance.HI,
Add the STANDBY_FILE_MANAGEMENT = AUTO to the primary parameter file, it will solve it.

Oracle 10G - Standard Edition; universal installer hangs at 40%
Hi,
I'm installing (or trying to) 10G on FC3 and the installer hangs at 40%. During the pre-install checks, the installer threw up only one warning (that the amount of swap was less than the amount of physical memory installed, but given that the installer isn't even managing to fill up the 4GB of physical RAM, I thought that'd be fine).
There are no errors evident in the install log, it just hangs indefinitely after these lines:-
INFO: HomeSetup JRE files in Scratch :590
INFO: Setting variable 'ROOTSH_LOCATION' to '/oracle/product/10.2.0/root.sh'. Received the value from a code block.

Swap: 2096440k total, 0k used, 2096440k free, 1685416k cached
so I think it isn't a memory problem.
And there is a good 2GB disk still free on the partition that the binaries are going on to.
Any ideas anyone?I've got something in the install error log now:-

Silent Installations using MDT2013..
Hi,
I'm currently running MDT2013 and trying to silently install 3rd Party Applications. (Such as Adobe Reader 11.0.10, Quicktime 7.7.6)
This is the following command that i'm trying to use to install Adobe silently.
"AdbeRdr11010_en_US.exe /sAll /rs /I /msi"/qb-! /norestart ALLUSERS=1 EULA_ACCEPT=YES SUPPRESS_APP_LAUNCH=YES""
Unfortunately this doesn't seem to work for me and everywhere i've looked seems to give me the same string of commands to try.
If someone could advise me on where it is I’m going wrong, that'd be lovely.
Craig.Downloaded the "Adobe Customization Wizard XI", then open it, make some pretty basic settings changes (like: Supress EULA, reboot, create shortcuts etc).. then save the TRANSFORM file, move it into the same directory as the software folder (C:\Deployment
Share\Applications\Adobe....). Then apply the command to match your file name (keep it simple) and then added the Quiet Install Command line;
msiexec /i AcroRead.msi TRANSFORMS="AcroRead.mst" /q and that's it

Error when creating Oracle12c PDB using DBCA response file in silent mode
I am getting an Oracle dbca NullPointerException when trying to create a PDB (Pluggable Database) usingdbca response file in silent mode.
I have a Oracle 12c CDB up and running, listener is also up, $ORACLE_HOME and $ORACLE_SID are also set correctly.
After database install and creating CDB using response files, I am now trying to create a PDB using dbca response file. Contents of dbca.rsp -
[GENERAL]
RESPONSEFILE_VERSION = "12.1.0"
OPERATION_TYPE = "createPluggableDatabase"
[CREATEPLUGGABLEDATABASE]
SOURCEDB = "orcl"
PDBNAME = "dev"
CREATEPDBFROM = "DEFAULT"
PDBADMINUSERNAME = "oracle"
PDBADMINPASSWORD = "oracle"
CREATEUSERTABLESPACE = "true"
I tried following commands:
dbca -silent -responseFile /<file path>/dbca.rsp dbca -silent -createPluggableDatabase -responseFile /<file path>/dbca.rsp
Both give same error:
---- Begin output of /u01/app/oracle/product/12c/db_1/bin/dbca -silent -responseFile /<file path>/dbca.rsp
STDOUT:
STDERR: Exception in thread "main" java.lang.NullPointerException
at oracle.sysman.assistants.dbca.backend.CommandLineArguments.processResponseFile(CommandLineArguments.java:6885)
at oracle.sysman.assistants.dbca.backend.CommandLineArguments.process(CommandLineArguments.java:4544)
at oracle.sysman.assistants.dbca.Dbca.execute(Dbca.java:110) at oracle.sysman.assistants.dbca.Dbca.main(Dbca.java:184)
However when I pass exact same parameters as command line arguments, dbca works absolutely fine and PDB is created: Following command runs succefully.
dbca -silent -createPluggableDatabase -sourceDB orcl -pdbName dev -createPDBFrom default -pdbAdminUserName oracle -pdbAdminPassword oracle -createUserTableSpace true
My environment need installation using response files only. I had used a dbca response file with "createDatabase" option for CDB and it worked fine. Error is observed only when I run it with OPERATION_TYPE as "createPluggableDatabase".
There is an option to create PDBs along with CDB creation when OPERATION_TYPE is "createDatabase". But Oracle does not give flexibility to name PDBs in this option. If I ask Oracle to create 3 PDBs, it will name them itself like PDB01, PDB02, PDB03 and so on. This doesn't work in my deployment because of applications compile time dependencies on specific PDB names.Yes, I am pointing to correct response file. I have two of these. One for "createDatabase" and another one for "createPluggableDatabase".
While the first one works absolutely fine, the one which creates PDBs always gives error.
I tried renaming the response file like dbca_dev.rsp for PDB install but same error message. I read in another forum that rename dbca.rsp is not a good idea.
So I kept it as dbca.rsp but built it using PDB template.
When I try after removing -silent, it tries to launch a UI installer. Since I am in Amazon AWS platform, my instance is CentOS based which doesn't support Xwindows display.
I am stuck with -silent install only. When I try with -progressOnly, I get exactly same error.
Also tried removing some parameters but still get exact same error message.
Tried same trick with "createDatabase" response file, now I see parameters missing error message.
It seems like Oracle doesn't like response file install for "createPluggableDatabase".
