Oracle 9.2.0.3 client ?
Hello,
I am installing software that requires "Oracle client software for Oracle 9.2.0.3 or later and has the latest version of the Oracle ODBC driver (9.2.0.4 or later)".
So far we have installed Oracle 9i Client Release 2 (9.2.0.1.0). We have also downloaded and installed Oracle ODBC Driver 9.2.0.4.0.
Is there a patch to upgrade the client to version 9.2.0.3 or later?
Thanks,
Justin Robbins
Such patches are available, but only on Metalink. To be able to access Metalink you need a support contract with Oracle.

Oracle 8.1.7.3 client on Windows Server 2008 64bit
Hi all!
I'm a newbie to Oracle and this forum, so please be gentle...:)
I'm trying to install Oracle 8.1.7.3 client on a 64bit Windows Server 2008, without success. Best result I got so far is 'installed' client and provider, but unable to run the config tools, or use the provider. I installed the same client on a 32bit version of Win Server 2008 and it worked with few minor tweaks.
Reason I'm doing this is trying to integrate an old legacy Oracle 7 database with SQL Server 2008 using linked servers.
Upgrading to a recent version is not an option.
Anyone has any guidelines? please help, this is driving me nuts!
Thanx,
Igoruser12219185 wrote:

The client is included. Download it and start the installation. It should give you an option to select 'client only'. -
Oracle 8.1.5 oci client to oracle 9i database
Is is supported to use an Oracle 8.1.5 oci client to oracle 9i
database? If not, will it work?Ok,
so You can follow the migration path that I've indicated before:
"To do that, the simplest way., is to install 10g r2 software on the Win 2003 machine. Create the DB and create the same accounts of the 8i version.
On the 8i version, export all the schemas using "exp" utility, w/o using the DIRECT option.
Copy the generated dump files onto the Win 2003 machine and import them using th "imp" utility,
Analyze all the objects and that the migration is complete.
You shouldn't find any problem porting structures and code from 8i to 10g R2
No matters will occours, cause imp utility of 10g is backward compatible with 8i exp files
Hop this helps

Oracle 10.2.0.1 client install during SLES10 AutoYast post-install
Hello all,
I'm stumped and could use a little help. I'm attempting to use the silent install method for the 10.2.0.1 Oracle client on a SLES10 SP2 via autoyast post install scripts. The script runs just fine if I use it to install after SLES10 has been completely installed. At first I suspected and environment issue, but I've doubled checked against the env during autoyast and post install completion env. Not sure what to check next, I've tried searching for minimum environment requirements for OUI, but found nothing.
silentInstall2010-05-01_10-00-43AM.log reports:
** Error Dialog: OUI-10151:There was an error while loading library: areasQueries ***

This silent installation was unsuccessful.
It was "generalQueries" until I added an ldconfig command in the script thinking something was wrong with the gcc env.
Here is the script I'm using...
#!/bin/bash
BASEDIR=/installsvr/repos
TMPDIR=/tmp/oracle_install
HASORACLE=`grep $1 /etc/passwd`
HASOINSTALL=`grep $2 /etc/group`

PROC=`ps -ef | grep ^$1 | tail -1 | awk '{print $2}'`
while [ ! -z "$PROC" ]
do
echo "-- installOracle.sh: waiting for oracle installer to finish --"
sleep 5
PROC=`ps -ef | grep ^$1 | tail -1 | awk '{print $2}'`
done
...and all is well.

Possible memory leak in Oracle 12.1.0 C client
Dear Oracle Users and Professionals,
I want to report Oracle 12.1.0 C client memory leak when reconnect feature is on place. I have used Valgrind/massif tool to diagnostic our components and there was small memory leak in libclntsh.so.12.1 which is calling libc function getaddrinfo(). This seems to be not freed when connection is closed, but my application is still running and keep reconnect when needed.
I sought a bit on internet and Oracle Portals about this and did not find any information that some has detected this particular issue.
In the attachment is trace back from massif: comparison of two different time slots.
We are developers and use only free available Oracle client versions. Our customer which will operate the system has available whole Oracle Support.
If you can give me advice, to reach state where we will have no memory leak, it would be helpfull.
Thank you very much

Need to test db connectivity from Oracle 8.1.6 NT client
Our applications run on Windows NT servers and connect to the Oracle db server through an Oracle 8.1.6 NT Client. The Oracle db server is running Oracle 8.1.6.2 on HPUX 11.0. I am using commands in a batch file to restart the application services on the NT server when the database is brought down. Before starting the services back up I need to be able to make sure that the database is up. I was using the tnsping command to do this, but I found out that tnsping gives an 'OK' response when the listener is running and the database is down. I need something that works like tnsping, but tests for connectivity to the database, not just the listener.
I appreciate any help anyone can give me.
The following is the code from the batch file:
REM ******************************************************
REM Stop the TM Proc Mon Service
net stop TMProcMonSrvc
REM ******************************************************
:CHECKDB
REM Check the connectivity to the database
tnsping tm52ut
REM Check to see if the tnsping was successful (=0)
IF %ERRORLEVEL%==0 GOTO STARTTM
GOTO CHECKDB
REM ******************************************************
:STARTTM
REM Start the TM Proc Mon Service
net start TMProcMonSrvc
REM ******************************************************
:EXIT
exitUse sqlplus. Use a bogus username/password (if and watch out for the Invalid username error. If you get an invalid username/password error then the db is up else it is down. Suggestion: It would be much easier to write a wsh script that uses ADO to connect to the db. Batch files do not give you much control over the shell.

Oracle 10.2.0.4 client/ODP connecting to 11g database
Hi Folks -
Are there any know problems using an Oracle 10.2.0.4 client and the 10.2 ODP/ODAC client to connect to an 11g database?
Normally ,we'd use the Oracle 11g client/ODP but it is giving us errors so we need to go back to 10g
..any foresee-able problems with this?soryy it took so long to reply.
we hit a bug which was supposed to be fixed in 11g client but is still there. OraOps11x.dll causing IIS 6.0 to crash. Took us a week to figure out what it was and didn't even consider it being an error caused by the 11g client until MS support pointed it out in a dump file we had them analyze. Oracle support confirmed it was true and last I heard they plan to have it fixed in the next update to the client, which they say is scheduled for end of July 2008. I hope it is fixed, because we're running into other problems with the 10.2.0.4 client also (ORA-21500 [%],[%],[%],[%],[%]). -
Oracle 11g Database 64-bit, Client 32-bit
Hi,
I have a problem,
I have an IBM Sever with 64-bit processors.
On it there is a Windows Server 2008 also 64-bit. I've installed Oracle Client 11g 64-bit. And there is my problem.
I can't connect to this database using tools like SQLTools or BDE Administrator. I can only connect via SQL PLUS (which is installed with Oracle). Also with installed Client 11g 32-bit on Windows XP 32-bit(connected via LAN) I can't connect.
While trying to open SQLTools there is a problem with some .dll (I can't remember now what's this .dll, definitely not OCI.dll).
Reinstalling programs doesn't help.
Another problem I have is with HP ProLiant Server. It's also 64-bit installation.
Also Win Server 2008 and Oracle 11g 64-bit. On it is the same problem, but the information while starting SQLTools is a problem with OCI.dll . Also reinstalling is not helping.
Do you guys have any idea, what's wrong??
Cheers...Just to try to determine if it is a bit-level issue (which it shouldn't be--this has never been a problem for me in the past), try installing 32-bit Oracle client on a workstation and seeing if you can connect.
I agree with the above poster, who said these tools might not be compatible with Oracle 11--they might be looking at different data dictionary views or something similar. -
How to install Oracle FM Forms 11g on client system.
Problem 1.
I have an weblogic server installed on a server, now i have to install oracle Forms 11g in client system. its ask me weblogic server path whatever i try, its ask weblogic on client. what is the solution how installation of Oracle 11g form connect with weblogic server."
Problem 2.
i have install 64-bit OS windows 7.
1. I Installed JDK 6 (64bit).
2. Installed Weblogic Server. (its work fine)
3. Now i m installing Oracle forms 11g 64(-bit). its show me an error (INST-07407: Unable to detect machine platform or JVM bits)
please help me out. waiting for your positive reply.3. Now i m installing Oracle forms 11g 64(-bit). its show me an error (INST-07407: Unable to detect machine platform or JVM bits)It looks like you are installing the 32-bit version of Oracle Fusion Middleware (FMw) 11g - not the 64-bit version. As a test, install the 32-bit JRE and run the FMw installer again. If it continues past this point - you've got the 32-bit installer and not the 64-bit installer. :)

Oracle Database 10.2 and Client 10.2 installation problem
Hi Everybody,
I am trying to install Oracle Databse 10.2g and Oracle Client 10.2 on the same server(windows 2003). I have few queries :
- Can we install both on Same Server
- Shall be install in the same directory or each in differenct directory
- Does each oracle database and oracle client has it's on oracle/home path
I installed the Oracle database and check it was working fine, I have also login through "sqlplus "/as sysdba". It was ok, all the oracle services were running perfectly. But when I installed the oracle client on the same server then all the oracle services were stopped and even when I tried to restarted manualy then got error, local user cannot start the service. Aslo not able to login thrugh sqlplus.
Could you please give your expert views.
Thanks in advance.
HarishYou can have as many Oracle Homes as your require, but you should be aware that each new Oracle Home modifies PATH environment variable, so the database could have been working fine until the client was installed, which has modified the reference to the database home.
You could modify it back from the server advanced properties at the windows control panel.

make: *** [blib/arch/auto/DBD/Oracle/Oracle.so] Error 1I am sure that installing a previous(older) version of oracle client will fix this issue i.e. either 11.2.0.1 or older (that is tested) but I want to know if it is possible to resolve the above issue with a work around and not having to install a previous version.
Fyi.. I've tried to install DBD::Oracle version 1.24 and 1.50 but that doesn't seem to make any difference. I couldn't find any related thread either for this error so I desperately need a solution to the same(if any).
If anyone can help here, would really appreciate it or else, I will have no choice but to install previous version of oracle client.
Thanks

Oracle 9.2.0.8 client or server?
Hey guys,
I'm a little bit confused in regards to the patches for Oracle client/server. The new 9.2.0.8 patch, is this for client or server or both? Would there be any issues if the client and server are not on the same level?
For example, if I have a 9.2.06 database, can I apply 9.2.0.8 patch for my client?
Let us consider, this is for Win 32-bit O/Ss.
What would be the case for Solaris based O/Ss?
Thanks in advanceThe same patch can be used to upgrade your database or to upgrade your client.
Normally its not a must to have both client & server the same version. But it is always better to have the same to eliminate any unexpected problems.
In general Oracle is always backward compatible for reasons of migrations etc.
