Oracle 9.2.0.6 and kernel 7.0 ?
Can Oracle 9.2.0.6 run with kernel 7.0?
Or does only Oracle 10g run with kernel 7.0?
Can I upgrade the kernel from 640 to 7.0, then later upgrade Oracel from 9.2.0.6 to 10g?
Hi William,
"Can Oracle 9.2.0.6 run with kernel 7.0?

"Can Oracle 9.2.0.6 run with kernel 7.0?
Or does only Oracle 10g run with kernel 7.0?"
From the SAP note:
SAP NetWeaver 2004s and SAP Business Suite 2005
SAP NetWeaver 2004s and the SAP products based on it (for example, ERP 05, SCM 05, SRM 05, CRM 05) will only be released on the basis of Oracle Database 10g. The ramp-up of these products, which began at the end of October 2005, was carried out on the basis of Oracle Version 10.1. The use of Oracle Version 10.1 is also supported for live SAP systems. However, you must use at least Oracle patch release 10.1.0.4.
The 7.0 Kernel is technically NW04s. So the answer to your question is 7.0 only runs on 10g.
"Can I upgrade the kernel from 640 to 7.0, then later upgrade Oracel from 9.2.0.6 to 10g? "
Again I don't think so. What you will have is 7.0 on 9i (which is not supported). What is supported is 6.40 on 10g.
So what you could do is the opposite of the question. Upgrade to 10g then upgrade to 7.0
I guess if I have mis-stated anything others will correct me...

Hi!
I am getting below warning in the dbwr trace files almost daily at different times:

SuSE Linux Enterprise Edition 10 Sp 2
OS Kernel --> 2.6.16.60-0.39.3-smp
Oracle Database 10.2.0.2 64-bit with only 5380055 bug fix applied

Please help in resolving this issue.

RajuHi Mark,
Thank u for quick ur reply.
Doc #396057.1 (SuSE 10.2 OS issue) --> This note says "The archiver is getting stuck with ORA-19502 and ORA-27061", whereas in my case I'm not getting any ORA- errors in alert log nor anywhere but only getting these warnings in dbwr trace files that is also intermittently.
I have consulted my system team in regards to disk I/O they said we are using very high end storage and there are no errors or warnings in the OS system logs.
# 415872.1 --> this note says "HUNG DATABASE INSTANCE IF LINUX KERNEL MISS AIO REQUEST". This is not the situation in our case.
#6687381.8 --> says versions confirmed as being affected are 10.2.0.3 and 10.2.0.4
I'm unable to find anything which points to my situation, pls help.

New Oracle Linux 6 installation - ASMLib and EMC Powerpath - is it possible
Hi everyone,
I would like to ask whether that latest version of Oracle Linux 6 can be used for a new installation (one that will replace Windows) to serve as that basis for Oracle RAC.
The storage is a high-end EMC Clariion.
I want to use the Unbreakable Enterprise Linux 2.
I would like to use EMC Powerpath, but it seems this is not yet available (or at list not present in the current EMC support matrix).
I want to use ASMLib, but if have to use redhat compatible kernel (so that I can use Powerpath), I will not be able to use ASMLib (AFAIK).
Does anybody has experience with this problem? What would you recommend?
I'm putting a list of possile options that I am aware of:
1. Use OEL5 with redhat compatible kernel (use Powerpath and ASMLib).
2. Use OEL6 with UEK2 kernel, but don't use Powerpath (use dm-multipath and ASMLib)
3. Use OEL6 with redhat compatible kernel (use Powerpath and don't use ASMLib, but use udev for persistent device permissions and naming)
4. Use SLES11 (with Powerpath and ASMLib)
do you have other suggestions? do you have comments on the pros and cons on this options.
Can someone from EMC or Oracle comment on the plans to make Powerpath available for OL6 with UEK2 ?
Regards,
MihailI could test "OEL6 with RHEL kernel + Powerpath" vs "OEL6 with UEK2 kernel + dm-mpio", but anyway this would not give the answer whether Powerpath is faster or slower than dm-mpio by itself, since the kernels would be different.I wonder how the answer whether EMC Powerpath or DM Multipath is faster can help you? Apparently you cannot use Powerpath with the UEK2 kernel and have a certified system at the same time, at least not at this time. However there is no reason to throw the towel yet. If the use of Powerpath instead of Multipath is so critical, why not using Oracle Linux 5.7, which is certified? If you check the EMC compatibility matrix (esm_by_os), it actually shows some systems including Clariion supported for Oracle Linux 6.2 with UEK kernel. You might want to take a closer look.
Anyway, it doesn't look like you will be able to solve the performance question without doing a real world test in your environment. You have no indication that Oracle Linux 6.3 with DM Mutlipath will give you less performance than RHEL 6.3 with Powerpath. Regarding the information you found, Linux is not Windows.
Powerpath is not free and you have to pay a license, but worse, it will tie your system to a very specific version of the kernel. In case of RHEL 6 or later, it will deny you the use of Oracle specific products and features such as ASMLib, etc. Multipath seems to be the more economic and better solution since you do not have to worry about kernel versions and have the freedom to use whatever Oracle Linux has to offer.
So, do you want to limit your kernel features and options and fix a problem that you don't know even know if it applies and pay money for it?

Cannot install oracle vpn on linux getting error kernel-sourcecode is neede
cannot install oracle vpn on linux getting error kernel-sourcecode is needed by gds_cisco_vpn_client-2.0-llrhel4.i386.. i already installed kernel-devel still it get the same error. pls help.
1. kernel (.rpm)
2. kernel-devel (.rpm) - containing only Makefiles and some kernel header files
3. kernel source rpm (src.rpm) - source for rebuilding the kernel
4. kernel-sourcecode (.rpm) - source-tree for developing custom kernels
are four different packages.
If you are running OEL-4 (2.6.9 kernel) and you have an ULN account, you can download kernel-sourcecode rpm from ULN. There is no kernel-sourcecode for OEL-5 available on ULN site.

Oracle EBusiness suite professions tasks and duties
Hello everybody
I inquire about something regarding Oracle EBusiness suite professions tasks and duties. I've tasked by my manager with writing a report lists the main tasks and key responsibilities for each of the following technical professions within Oracle E Business Environment:
1)-Apps DBA.
2)-Apps Technical Consultant (Apps Developer)
3)-Apps Business Consultant.
I've contacted Oracle Support recently via opening SR .But, They informed me that they don’t provide such information and therefore, they suggest me weather to contact Oracle Consulting to post here.
I would appreciate your help.
SamiI don't see how you'd be able to integrate OAM with EBS unless you have the oSSO (assuming of course that you're not on the bleeding edge, per 975182.1).
We are running the same configuration and have setup the redirects in OAM policy. We setup specific context roots for each application, then use OAM policy to redirect. (for example, http://iwa-server/ebs redirects to https://ebs-server)
Unique authorization rule for each redirect, then a unique "policy" on the "Policies" tab for each redirect. Each Policy maps to the respective Authorization Rule. -
hello..
i have already posted about that in testing-forums, but since xorg 1.6 and kernel 2.6.29 have moved to extra, though i'd create a seperate topic about that.
after i have upgraded to xorg 1.6 and kernel 2.6.29 my wacom device (as built-in, not usb) on my thinkpad x41t stopped working.
before upgrade i have used xorg with hotplugging enabled. everything worked fine.
after wacom stopeed working i removed everything regarding input devices from xorg.conf -> no change
put an fdi-file for wacom -> no change
installed linuxwacom-dev -> no change
i don't really know, if it's a kernel or an xorg issue. loading wacom drivers manually still doesn't solve the problem. no warnings or errors about wacom in xorg-log or messages.log
how could i check, wether my system recognizes the device properly at all? it doesn't show up in lspci or in lsusb.
any help would be great.
Last edited by lynucs (2009-04-14 18:57:17)well, upgraded again to xorg-server 1.6, disabled hotplugging, installed linuxwacom-dev from aur and the wacom works as allways. (had to edit xmodmap one more time, since kbd returns other keycodes than evdev does :-| ). no matter, done is done.
but intel driver returns broken graphics if i rotate screen with xrandr.
i guess there is no way around this execpt switching to the ultra-slow legacy driver?
just for comparison - glxgears fps:
intel: ~900fps
intel-legacy: ~280fps

Hard Feezing and Kernel Panics - Early 11 MBP
Hey just wondering if anyone has any insight into this...
I've been experiencing hard freezing and kernel panics on my Early 11 Macbook Pro for several months. The hard freezing only happens when I wake up my system from sleep. I'll open the lid and when it happens, within seconds, everything locks up. No spinning wheel, just frozen machine and I have to do a hard reboot. I also get random kernel panics as well.
I took it in the the Genius Bar a few weeks ago, they ran tests and said the hardware was all fine and that I should reinstall Lion after a clean format. Well I did that and still having issues. Not sure if it's being caused by a 3rd party app...or if I really do have bad hardware after all.
When they did a diagnostic they said that 'soundflower' was showing up in my kernel panic log and that I should find what that is and delete it, so I did. In my most recent and only kernel panic, shown below, I don't see any 3rd party language anywhere.
Anyone have an idea of what might be causing this?

I think the new xorg-server is the problem as it isn't supported by this nvidia driver yet.
You could try to install the nouveau driver until nvidia comes with a new version of the 173 branch that supports xorg-server 1.10, see: https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Nouveau for information. As lower-grade options, you might also consider xf86-video-nv and xf86-video-vesa.
Should i uninstall nvidia driver, then install it?
I think thats the easy way yes, else you have to blacklist the nvidia kernel module.. check the wiki link of nouveau for details. -
Mac freezing and kernel panics
Please help if anyone can. I'm not much of a computer expert.
I apologize in advance if I'm not asking this question in the right forum or topic- I haven't ever posted before today.
I have a PowerMac G5 dual 2 GHz processor machine running 10.4.9. Lately I have had problems with freezing and kernel panics, especially at startup or soon after startup.
I have 1 GB RAM, 150 GB hard drive with 117 GB free space. I have no peripheral devices hooked to my computer- just an Apple USB mouse and keyboard that came with my computer.
Panics occur at startup usually, and require a restart using the power button.
Sometimes the system profiler shows that I have only 1 CPU.
I've run all the Apple hardware diagnostic stuff, Disk Utility, Disk Warrior, etc, and it comes up clean- no problems. I've run fsck -fy, and I've done a full erase and reinstall, then update to 10.4.9. Problem persists.
Sometimes I don't get the startup sound, and then everything freezes.
Sometimes it freezes on the blue screen and shows the prohibitory sign.
Sometimes when it freezes, the fans go wild and just keep increasing in speed until I force restart.
Recent kernel panic log reads as follows:

PowerMac G5 Mac OS X (10.4.9)Based on that info, it sounds like either the optical or hard drive is beginning to go bad and perhaps the CPU on the logicboard. The fact it mentions iostorage, that typically deals with the storage devices on the computer. The fact that the CPU disappears is not good. Backup your data and try to replace the hard drive. See my FAQ* on backing up:
http://www.macmaps.com/backup.html
A G5 takes SATA hard drives, and won't work with the Parallel ATA drives. SATA drives take the connectors shown here:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Serial_ATA
The drive may still be under warranty even if the computer is not. Look on the sticky label on the outside of the drive.

i have taken "Oracle Database 12c: Performance Management and Tuning new" training from oracle university. Now i would like to get certified on "Oracle Database 11g: Performance Tuning 1Z0-054" exam. Is it possible ?
I essentially endorse and refer you to Matthews' and John's post above.
I would differ with slightly with Matthew because my guess is you would often be able to use like for like 12c training for an 11g certification ( I believe there are precedents). BEFORE ANYONE ASKS THE OTHER WAY DOESN'T HAPPEN.
.... but totally concur with Matthew you would ill advised to procede on that basis without one of:
- This being advertised as possible on the website : e.g. https://education.oracle.com/pls/web_prod-plq-dad/db_pages.getpage?page_id=654&get_params=p_id:169 ... option 2 show courses.
- Confirmation from Brandye
- Confirmation from an Oracle Certification Support Web Ticket ( http://education.oracle.com/pls/eval-eddap-dcd/OU_SUPPORT_OCP.home?p_source=OCP )
... The more common (and in my opinion usually better) way would be get your 11g DBA OCP ( or higher first) and then take the 1z0-054. I am almost certain they will accept your 12c course for the 11g DBA OCP.
If you are choosing the route of not being a 11g (or 12c ) DBA OCP first but are on option 2 and relying on the course for certification then the issue is more in the balance and you are even more strongly advised to get confirmation before proceding (remember if the rules need to be changed for you only then any profit out of the exam is lost).
In general my understanding is Oracle would prefer to encourage people to train on the latest version of product that is available for training and will prefer to avoid restrictions which would cause you to train at a lower version. ( This is simply my guess at Oracle University Policy ... personal opinion only).
Having said all I have said I'd encourage you to go with the advice of the earlier two posts. -

Oracle EBS 12.1.3 and SOA 10g hardware sizing
Hi All,
To give you the background, we have integration requirements where in one of the interface about 20000 sales orders come in the system everyday and they have about 3-5 lines per sales order. Most of these orders come between 3-6 PM. We have 50 other interfaces along with this but this is a major one. Client is concerned about performance and so we have to give right design and right hardware sizing so that the system is able to handle all the load without causing performance issues. We are planing to use Oracle EBS 12.1.3 and SOA Suite 10.1.3.5 (10g)
Any processes, documentation on how to go about hardware sizing, tools will be helpful
Thanks,
RahulAny Updates??
