Oracle 9.2.0.6 support for RHEL 4 AS update 4

Hi All,
Where can i get information on the support matrix for oracle 9.2.0.6 for Red hat Enterprise Linux 4 Advanced server update 4. The document at http://www.oracle.com/technology/support/metalink/index.html does not give information on the 'update' versions (update 3, update 4 etc). Please advise.
Regards,
Kishore

You must have the minimum update specified by oracle for any OS and as long as you stay on same release, it is supported. Oracle doesn't provide support info at different update levels instead it specify the minimum update which is required for you to have the support.
Check the minimum update requirement for RHEL 4 and if you are on that or above that, you are fine.

    ALERT - Support for Java Critical Patch Update
    On October 15th, Java released a critical patch update (CPU) which will require download and upgrade to the Java Runtime Environment (JRE) release – 1.7.0_45.   If upgrading the JRE to this release, the P6 module (also known as Web Access) of the P6 EPPM product line and the Contract Management product, which utilize LiveConnect applets in the browser, will start generating one or more prompts.   To remediate these prompts for the P6 EPPM Web Access module and the Contract Management product, Oracle Primavera will be releasing fixpacks.   Until fixpacks become available, you can use the following workaround to suppress these prompts:  Select the 'Allow' Prompt or 'Yes' prompt for successful loading of applets.  Note: This prompt will occur for each applet.
    For more information, please refer to the following KM Documents in My Oracle Support.
    For P6 (Web Access), refer to KM Document ID 1591925.1
    For Contract Management, refer to KM Document ID 1592535.1

    I found the answer to my own question. For any newbies out there, if you create an account with Oracle, that is not enough to download patches. You have to have an Oracle Customer Support Identifier associated with your account. Once you have a CSI that you obtain through your employer who has paid for support or through some other means, you then can go into My Oracle Support and enter a request to be added to the given CSI. That request goes into a pending state until the administrator of the CSI grants you privileges to download patches. (NOTE: You might have to bug someone within your organization to get this to happen.) For me, once I was given the privilege, the link worked as it should.

  • Window 7 has native support for AVCHD after the update today

    "21. Improved playback support for video content from digital camcorders and cameras
    Customers loved the increased range of formats natively supported by the Windows 7 Beta, but noticed areas where they wanted broader support. For example, one was unable to seek to a specific spot in the video in Windows Media Player or Windows Media Center for AVCHD content that was imported from a digital camcorder. Weve addressed this. Also, while the support for video from some digital cameras worked great, we also got feedback about supporting a broader set of devices out of the box. Weve since added support for Windows Media Player to natively support the .MOV files used to capture video for many common digital cameras. "
    http://blogs.msdn.com/e7/archive/2009/02/26/some-changes-since-beta.aspx

    Windows media player 11 can play AVCHD very well on windows vista already. And the .MOV native support actually worries me. If that happens, would apple still be making quicktime for windows? will quicktime pro still be on windows? because as far as i know there was no more windows media player on the mac as soon as flip4mac(well, it was made by microsoft..) came out.

  • How to install Oracle 10g Release 2 (10.2) for RHEL 5

    I want to install Oracle® Database 10g Release 2 (10.2) for Linux x86-64 in RHEL 5
    Please experience people guide me ... please don't give me http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/B19306_01/install.102/b15667/toc.htm (Oracle® Database Installation Guide 10g Release 2 (10.2) for Linux x86-64) link i already gone through but it's to much in depth and not able to understand what is that i can use from this.
    My Machine is having 12GB RAM and it's 64bit machine.
    So please provide me steps that only relate to my oracle installation. I just want to do simple installation without database and my machine not have graphical interface also.
    Send me your generic steps that i can run on my machine. if you want information about my system specification please ask.
    So please people help me out... i am really thankful to you guys .....
    Thanks ,

    That also good idea man. thanks for your valuable advice.
    I have confusion here ...
    3. Changes to be made to Kernel parameters
    After installing above mentioned packages, we need to change some Kernel parameters and make them match to Oracle requirements. Parameters which should be changed are shown below
    shmmax     2147483648
    shmmni     4096
    shmall     2097152
    shmmin     1
    semmsl     250
    semmns     32000
    semopm     100
    semmni     128
    file-max     65536
    ip_local_port_range     1024 65000
    rmem_default     1048576
    rmem_max     1048576
    wmem_default     262144
    wmem_max     262144
    We do all these changes in the /etc/sysctl.conf file by adding these lines to that file:
    kernel.shmmax = 2147483648
    kernel.shmall = 2097152
    kernel.shmmni=4096
    kernel.sem=250 32000 100 128
    fs.file-max=65536
    net.ipv4.ip_local_port_range=1024 65000
    net.core.rmem_default=1048576
    net.core.rmem_max=1048576
    net.core.wmem_default=262144
    net.core.wmem_max=262144
    Question: What will be my value for this as my system is 64bit so this all parameter is ok if i put all straight ?
    ----> Setting Shell limits for the Oracle UserTo improve the performance of the software on Linux systems, you must increase the following shell limits for the oracle user:
    1. Add the following lines to /etc/security/limits.conf file
    oracle soft nproc 2047
    oracle hard nproc 16384
    oracle soft nofile 1024
    oracle hard nofile 65536
    2. Add the following lines to /etc/pam.d/login file
    session required /lib/security/pam_limits.so
    session required pam_limits.so
    3. In order to use Oracle Software, we need to make a change in “oracle” user’s buffer size and number of opened file descriptors. In order to do it, we add below lines to /etc/profile file
    if [ $USER = "oracle" ]; then
    if [ $SHELL = "/bin/ksh" ]; then
    ulimit -p 16384
    ulimit -n 65536
    else
    ulimit -u 16384 -n 65536

    I'm trying to install oralce 10.2.0.1 and patch it to 10.2.0.3 on windows 2008 server.
    But when I try to launch the installer I get this error:
    Abnormal program termination. An internal error has occured. Please provide the following files to Oralce support:

    Is ora10gr2 supported on windows 2008?
    What could be the installation problem? How could I address it?

  • Thanks HP Support For Nothing - Windows 10 Update - Laptop Issues!

    I am one of many who has posted on here over the past couple about the issues with laptops shutting down / going into sleep after the Windows 10 update last week. There are now so many threads on the HP Forums I’ve lost count. I’ve tried all the recommended tricks, including updating the BIOS Driver from the HP Website, but nothing works! I’ve also updated all other drivers. I’ve spoken to HP Support who couldn’t care less about the issue and are not working on a fix – they seem to blame Microsoft for the problem and tell me to speak to them! Better still return my laptop back to the shop because it is still under warranty. Thanks HP for being supportive with this problem. BTW being informed that you are now telling people not to update to Windows 10 until Microsoft have ironed out the bugs and created fixes is really not helpful! Perhaps I’ll think again about buying a HP product in the future. Really poor customer service!

    Hi there ,  Thank you for visiting the HP Support Forums and Welcome! I read your post on the HP Support Forums and see that you are having issue with your Notebook PC. I would be happy to assist you. I just need your specific Model Numbers (How Do I Find My Model Number or Product Number?).  After reading your post on the HP Support Forums, I believe that you are having two issues on your Notebook PC's, after your Windows 10 upgrade. You had mentioned that your HP Recovery could not open when you were logged into your Microsoft Account. You also mentioned that on your Notebook PC's it is showing you as "Standard" and not the "Administrator".  I did some research for you and I found a document called HP PCs - Managing User Accounts and Logins (Windows 10). The information in this document describes the different account types in Windows 10, and explains how to change account types and how to save and change passwords. Just so I understand correctly, is it the HP System Recovery that will not open? Please follow the document provided and re-post with any information or results.  Thanks!

  • Support for jinitiator 1.1.8.16

    Is Oracle planning to cut off support for jinitiator versions 1.1.8.16 upon launching oracle 12G ? Our oracle application is based on thie version of jinitiator and I need to know this information so that I can consider upgrading to jinitiator 1.3. Also what is most recent version of jinitiator?

    I am not aware of which jinitiator version will be certified with Apps 12. You may consider the upgrade since 1.3.1.26 (the most recent version of jinitiator) is already certified with 11i

  • Oracle VM Server 2.2.1 - support for NTFS external drive?

    Hi,
    Another "newbie" question here... we have just installed Oracle VM Server 2.2.1 on a Dell box and now we want to install some Template VM's that we downloaded. The problem is - they are on an external Hard Drive that is an NTFS drive.
    So - when we connect the drive it's detected ok - but we can't mount it as the NTFS filesystem support doesn't appear to be installed as standard?
    If it isn't - how/where do we get NTFS support into the Kernel?
    Any help appreciated.
    Regards,
    Bren

    Hi Bren,
    unfortunately as far as I know native NTFS support is in RHEL/OEL 5.4. And since Oracle VM is based on OEL 5.3 there is no direct support for NTFS.
    However there is an "unofficial" and probably not supported possibility to install FUSE and get NTFS3g to get what you want:
    Point the yum update server to OVS 2.2.1 and OEL 5.3 (on which OVS is based) on public-yum.oracle.com:
    # vi /etc/yum.repos.d/public-yum-el5.repo
    [el5_u3_base]
    name=Enterprise Linux $releasever U3 - $basearch - base
    baseurl=http://public-yum.oracle.com/repo/EnterpriseLinux/EL5/3/base/$basearch/
    gpgkey=http://public-yum.oracle.com/RPM-GPG-KEY-oracle-el5
    gpgcheck=1
    enabled=1
    [ovm22_2.2.1_base]
    name=OracleVM 2 - 2.2.1 - $basearch - base
    baseurl=http://public-yum.oracle.com/repo/OracleVM/OVM2/2.2.1/base/$basearch/
    gpgkey=http://public-yum.oracle.com/RPM-GPG-KEY-oracle-el5
    gpgcheck=1
    enabled=1
    Then you are able to install gcc compiler, which is needed for FUSE:
    # yum install gcc
    Insert the OVS Server CD or use the OVS repository from public-yum to install the develop kernel:
    # yum install kernel-ovs-devel
    Download the required FUSE packages and NTFS3g:
    http://ntfs-3g.org
    http://fuse.sourceforge.net/
    # wget http://marush.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/04/ntfs-3g-200944-el5i686.rpm
    # wget http://switch.dl.sourceforge.net/sourceforge/fuse/fuse-2.7.4.tar.gz
    Install Fuse:
    # tar -xvzf fuse-2.7.4.tar.gz
    # cd fuse-2.7.4
    # ./configure
    # make
    # make install
    # modprobe fuse
    # cd ..
    Install NTFS3g:
    # rpm -Uvh ntfs-3g-200944-el5i686.rpm
    Then you should be able to mount the ntfs filesystem:
    # mkdir /ntfs
    # echo "/dev/sda3 /ntfs ntfs-3g defaults 0 0" >> /etc/fstab
    # mount -a
    Note however, that this probably is not supported.
    So mounting the drive on a windows computer and copying the files via. pscp might probably be the easier and supported way...
    Regards
    Sebastian

    My Oracle Support ... and only if you have a paid-up support contract.  Actually, I'm not sure 9i would be available even then.  10g is only available to those with a paid-up sustaining support contract.  9i is so old (hasn't been supported in this millennium) I wouldn't be surprised it is not available at any price.  Further, I doubt it was ever certified for RHEL 5.  Hard to tell since the documentation isn't even available .....
    Just out of curiosity, why would you be needing such an antique?

  • Pagination support for non-Oracle databases?

    Hi,
    I just read this thread (Pagination Support on pagination support. Is there any way to get pagination with non-Oracle databases? We are using an IBM iSeries / AS/400 DB2 database right now, and we're planning to use some local lightweight database in the near future as well (probably Cloudscape/Derby or "IBM Everyplace database".)
    We currently use code like this:
    String sql = "SELECT art FROM Artikel art" +
                /* dynamically generated where statement is added here */
                + "ORDER BY art.artikelNummer";
    Query q = em.createQuery(sql);
    q.setFirstResult(firstResult);
    q.setMaxResults(maxResults);If I look in the TopLink logs, I see queries like this:
    SELECT ARTNR, ARALT, ARAFJ, ARXII, ARAVJ, ARXIV, ARANJ, AHGCD, ARNVJ, ARCRJ, ARARK, ARFKJ, ARTNK, ARGP1, ASGCD, ARGP2, ARPR1, ARGP3, ARPR2, AREX1, ARPR3, AREX2, ARPR4, AREX3, ARASA, ARINA, ASSCD, ARIA1, ARBAN, ARIN1, ARBAV, ARIA2, ARBAK, ARIN2, ARCES, ARIA3, ARCDT, ARIN3, ARCRE, ARIA4, ARCWK, ARIN4, ARHBH, ARIA5, ARDFA, ARIN5, ARDFG, ARIA6, ARDOS, ARIN6, AREPW, ARINN, ARFOD, ARIAS, ARFOE, ARINS, ARFOF, ARNAB, ARFOI, ARNIB, ARFON, ARNIA, ARFOS, ARNN1, ARFTA, ARNA2, ARVIV, ARNO2, ARGAP, ARNN3, ARGPT, ARNA4, ARGPD, ARNO4, ARGPA, ARNN5, ARGPO, ARNA6, ARHIS, ARNN6, ARISP, ARNIO, ARKHM, ARNNS, MAGCD, AROVJ, MTGCD, ARPL1, ARMXM, ARPL2, MRKCD, ARPL3, ARMVR, ARVKJ, ARMIM, ARV12, ARMDT, ARVVJ, ARMTE, AR#VR, ARMTU, ARZLS, ARMTM, ARIAT, ARMWK, ARAVS, MPCCD, ARNVS, ARBTW, ARFJS, ARXI2, ARG2S, ARXI3, ARE1S, ARXI4, ARE3S, ARXI6, ARIB1, ARXI1, ARIB2, ARXI5, ARIB3, AROPI, ARIB4, ARPRV, ARIB5, SZGCD, ARIB6, ARSPC, ARINO, ARSMF, ARIOS, VEAAN, ARNIS, ARSYN, ARNO1, ARVR1, ARNA3, ARV1S, ARNN4, ARVR2, ARNO5, ARV2S, ARNIN, ARVR3, ARNOS, ARV3S, ARP1S, ARTFA, ARP3S, ARTFG, ARS12, ARUVC, ARZLD, ARUCW, ARAJS, ARBKV, ARCJS, ARVVI, ARG3S, ARVVP, ARINB, VPOCD, ARIO2, VPECD, ARIO4, ARVIH, ARIO6, ARVHG, ARNBS, ARVRW, ARNN2, ARVPR, ARNA5, ARVVR, ARNAS, ARVVS, ARP2S, ARVV1, ARSVV, ARZK1, ARNJS, ARNA1, ARNO3, ARIO1, ARNO6, ARIO5, AROJS, ARE2S, ARVJS, ARIBS, ARIAD, ARIO3, ARG1S FROM ART WHERE ((((ARUVC = 'N') AND (ARHIS = 'N')) AND (ASGCD = 7)) AND (AHGCD = 15)) ORDER BY ARTNR ASC
    (Yeah, I know we have too much columns in the table...)
    So, no pagination in the query. As you can see, we have a mechanism in place to dynamically generate a where clause. This is because the user can set filters. The problem is, if our user sets a filter that causes the result set to be significantly smaller, the performance is way better than when he sets no filter at all. We suppose this is because the whole result set is sent to TopLink, regardless of the values of firstResult and maxResults.
    We are using TopLink Essentials 2.1-10, by the way.

    Hi all,
    I'm trying to subclass <tt>DatabasePlatform</tt> to add pagination support for the AS/400 DB2 database of my customer. To be fair, it is not going very well so far.
    The first problem is, the query Chris found by googling (Re: Pagination support for non-Oracle databases?), does not work for AS/400s version of DB2. In fact, although it is called "DB2", the database on the AS/400 system is a whole other database than the "normal" DB2 database that runs on Windows and *nix. The AS/400 DB2 simply does not have a "ROW_NEXT" function.
    Another option would be to use the <b>row_number() over()</b> mehtod. But, as can be read here, this function is only available from version V5R4 of OS/400. And guess what? We're stuck on V5R3 at this client. (We cannot upgrade, because there's an application in use that's written in Delphi and IBM dropped the Delphi binding from V5R4...)
    So I pretty much ran out of options. On the mailing list I linked to above, someone mentions the option to make a sort of stored procedure that generates a row count number. An example of how to do this can be found here. I implemented it, and ended up with this code:
    package com.myclientsname.persistence;
    import java.sql.Connection;
    import java.sql.PreparedStatement;
    import java.sql.ResultSet;
    import java.sql.SQLException;
    import org.eclipse.persistence.expressions.ExpressionBuilder;
    import org.eclipse.persistence.internal.databaseaccess.DatabaseCall;
    import org.eclipse.persistence.internal.expressions.ExpressionSQLPrinter;
    import org.eclipse.persistence.internal.expressions.SQLSelectStatement;
    import org.eclipse.persistence.internal.sessions.AbstractSession;
    import org.eclipse.persistence.logging.SessionLog;
    import org.eclipse.persistence.platform.database.DatabasePlatform;
    import org.eclipse.persistence.sessions.SessionProfiler;
    public class AS400Platform extends DatabasePlatform {
        private static final long serialVersionUID = 0L;
        public AS400Platform(){
             super();
             super.setShouldBindAllParameters(false);
        public void printSQLSelectStatement(DatabaseCall call, ExpressionSQLPrinter printer, SQLSelectStatement statement) {
            int max = 0;
            int firstRow = 0;
            if (statement.getQuery()!=null){
                max = statement.getQuery().getMaxRows();
                firstRow = statement.getQuery().getFirstResult();
            if ( !(max>0) && !(firstRow>0) ){
                super.printSQLSelectStatement(call, printer,statement);
                return;
            } else {
                statement.setUseUniqueFieldAliases(true);
                ExpressionBuilder builder = new ExpressionBuilder();
                statement.addField(builder.getField("COUNTER() AS CNTR"));
                printer.printString("SELECT * FROM (");
                call.setFields(statement.printSQL(printer));
                printer.printString(") AS R WHERE R.CNTR >= ");
                printer.printParameter(DatabaseCall.FIRSTRESULT_FIELD);
                if ( max > 0 ){
                    // Use of binding parameters is not allowed here, so use
                    // String concatenation instead...
                    printer.printString(" FETCH FIRST " + max + " ROWS ONLY");
            call.setIgnoreFirstRowMaxResultsSettings(true);
        public boolean wasFailureCommunicationBased(SQLException exception, Connection connection, AbstractSession sessionForProfile){
            if (connection == null || this.pingSQL == null){
                //Without a connection we are  unable to determine what caused the error so return false.
                //The only case where connection will be null should be External Connection Pooling so
                //returning false is ok as there is no connection management requirement
                    //If there is no ping sql then we can not perform the ping.
                return false;
            PreparedStatement statement = null;
            try{
                sessionForProfile.startOperationProfile(SessionProfiler.ConnectionPing);
                if (sessionForProfile.shouldLog(SessionLog.FINE, SessionLog.SQL)) {// Avoid printing if no logging required.
                     sessionForProfile.log(SessionLog.FINE, SessionLog.SQL, getPingSQL(), (Object[])null, null, false);
                statement = connection.prepareStatement(getPingSQL());
                ResultSet result = statement.executeQuery();
                result.close();
                statement.close();
            }catch (SQLException ex){
                try{
                    // Had to add this check because of NullPointerExceptions
                    // (maybe a bug?)
                    if(statement != null){
                        //try to close statement again in case the query or result.close() caused an exception.
                        statement.close();
                } catch (SQLException exception2) {
                    //ignore;
                return true;
            }finally{
                sessionForProfile.endOperationProfile(SessionProfiler.ConnectionPing);
            return false;
    }(As you can see, I had to override the <tt>wasFailureCommunicationBased()</tt> method as well, due to some unexpected NPE's. (A bug, perhaps?))
    This code does work. However, the performance is not very well. The first page comes relatively fast, but as you browse further in the table, each page comes slower. I assume this is because the counter() method has to be evaluated for each row in the table.
    I have to get the performance better and constant. Does anyone have an idea how to optimize this further?
    Best regards,

  • Oracle To End Support for Java 7

    No More Free Updates for Java 7 after April 2015
    Users must sign long-term support deals or migrate to Java 8 to avoid 'enormous headache and disruption to millions of applications'
    Public updates for Java 7 -- including bug and security fixes -- will end this month, a situation that one security advocate says could impact millions of applications.
    "As outlined in the Oracle JDK [Java Development Kit] Support Roadmap, after April 2015, Oracle will not post further updates of Java SE [Standard Edition] 7 to its public download sites," Oracle's Java SE Support Roadmap states. "Customers who need continued access to critical bug fixes and security fixes as well as general maintenance for Java SE 7 or older versions can get long-term support through Oracle Java SE Support. The process of migrating users from Java 7 to Java 8 through the auto update feature is expected to take place after the January 2015 CPU release."

    Oracle released Java SE 7 in July 2011; Java SE 8 was released in March 2014. Java, particularly on the client side, has been beset by security issues in recent years. But Oracle has taken many steps to address the issues and stressed that most of the problems dated back several years, before Oracle took over Java from Sun in 2010.
    Still, the impact of Oracle's cessation of public updates could be severe, an official at security firm Waratek, believes. Oracle's "rapid" end-of-life schedule for Java versions is great for innovation and language evolution, Waratek CTO John Matthew Holt said in an emailed statement. "However, there is a dangerous tradeoff; now millions of Java 7 applications will have to defend themselves against code-level vulnerabilities without the benefit of future fixes." Holt advocates either upgrades to Java 8 or use of Java Run-time Application Self Protection (RASP) technologies (Waratek is a RASP vendor).
    This week's security update from Oracle, meanwhile, marks the "proverbial 'end of the road' for Java 7 application security, Holt said. "After today, the only version of the Java Platform which will receive public security updates is Java 8.  This is huge news, and it is going to cause enormous headache and disruption to millions of application owners around the world."
    Contacted Tuesday afternoon for a comment on the end of public updates for Java SE 7, by late evening Oracle had not yet responded.
    The April 2015 Critical Patch Update released Tuesday by Oracle provides 98 new fixes for security issues across a wide range of product families, said Eric Maurice in an Oracle blog post. These range from Oracle Database to Oracle Fusion Middleware, Java SE, and MySQL. Fourteen of the security fixes are for Java SE.

    Java 7 has already been dead for quite a while. While you could still use it for Java apps on your system, Apple blocked its use in browsers long ago. You have to install version 8 if you need Java support for the web.

  • Support for o/r in Oracle 8i tools

    Support for object types in the Oracle 8i administration tools seems to be limited. For example, I can't select an object type for a table column in DBAStudio. However, I can define types and tables using types through SQLPlus.
    What fails is to reference object members through the dotted notation in SELECT or UPDATE. For example
    SQL> select emp_ext.att_ext.NAME from emp_ext;
    gives me an error:
    select emp_ext.att_ext.name from emp_ext
    ERROR at line 1:
    ORA-00904: invalid column name
    The name attribute is part of the type definition, I can insert objects into the column, but can't use the structure in queries and updates!
    Anything I'm missing? Any special settings for object types in SQL required?
    Thanks,
    Thomas

    Thomas,
    You need to use table alias for this:
    select E.att_ext.NAME from emp_ext E;
    Notice the 'E' here.

  • Oracle (SQL) support for Temporal / time period based data

    Beyond standard SQL (DATE type etc. and <,>, LEAST, GREATEST, etc.) does Oracle offer anything to help handle time period based data? E.g. overlapping periods, joins when gaps in time periods from 2+ tables, period contiguity checks, etc. I've developed various SQL query techniques, but they're all rather cumbersome using standard SQL.
    Oracle Spatial offers geo-location support - is there anything similar for temporal query support?
    Any good books / docs on the subject?

    Check out Workspace manager for limited out of the box temporal support.
    You may also want to have a read through this series of articles about temporal database systems. They aren't Oracle specific, but may help you with your temporal system design.
