Oracle 9i and oracle 10g features

Looking for some info/link which could help me in understanding the newer features in oracle 9i database and in 10g dbase.
Will be good to know the additional features which are in 10g release but not in 9i.

Go to the documentation.
Look for the book called 'New Features'. It's big, but it's only an overview.
When you find new features of interest, go to the manual for that feature and look in the area between he table of contents and Chapter 1 - the area titled 'New Features' - for more explanation.
Surprisingly, documentation can be useful - you get a lot less sarcasm and typos in the docco <g>

I have Oracle 9i in a machine. I wanted to install Oracle 10g in the same machine.
I tried installed, and Oracle 10g worked ok.
    I have the following problems:
    1. Oracle 9i is not starting up. {Oracle 9i Intelligent Agent Failure on startup}
    2. I need to use Oracle 9i and Oracle 10g simultaneously.
If any one have experianced this please help to resolve the issue.
    Thanks in advance.

You must use 2 different homes, and later you have to take care of your environment variables, and you must use only one listener in this case the highest version that is 10g.
Tell us: did you install in the same ORACLE_HOME?
    Give us details.

  • How to install oracle Forms and Report 10g in windows XP OS

How to install oracle Forms and Report 10g in windows XP OS. Already installed oracle Database 10g in my notebook.
    It is working good.
    please help me this issue.
    please give the steps..............

    Hello Frank,
for development, you need to install Oracle Developer
Suite 10g. This includes Forms and Reports.this topic interests me too, because I've downloaded Developer Suite and Database (both for 10g) from Oracle website, installed them, but I couldn't connect to a database.
What should be done for me to create a database link and be able to connect locally, in my personal Desktop computer? (Not to a server)
Once it was told me here that I should download 10g Database - I did it, and installed it, but it didn't work. Later, some of my job partners said I should install them in a sequence - that is, 1st the Developer, and 2nd the Database. But it has failed too. And I don't know how to configure a database connection.
    Best regards,

  • 32 Bit Installation or Oracle Linux and Oracle Database 10g

I have an old E-Machine that I wanted to put Oracle Linux and Oracle Database Express 11G on. I was just wanting to do some testing and development on the system. I'm pretty sure the machine is 32bit.
I just burned a copy of 32 bit Oracle Linux onto a CD. Is there a version of Oracle Database Express that will run on it?
It seems like there is only a 64 bit version of Oracle Express Database 11g. Is Oracle Database Express 10g installable on Oracle Linux 32 bit?
Let me know! Thanks in an advance.

One (or two) caveats with the 10g version, XE can not be patched and the 10.2.0.1 XEs were created before the current daylight savings time rules went into effect.
If you have access to My Oracle Support there is a method to get updated timezone files for the oracle binaries, you need at least version 4 of the DST files. I've got the MOS docIDs somewhere let us know if needed and I'll dig 'em up.

  • Differences between Oracle BAM and Oracle BI and Question BAM  Data Objects

    Hi,
    I have two questions.
    1. Can someone tell me differences between Oracle BAM and Oracle BI?
My understanding about Oracle BAM is, we use BAM to build Dashboards or Reports.
We can also build DashBoards or reports using Oracle BI.
I am not able to understand why Oracle has two tools for same purpose?
Which tool is more powerful and user friendly(Oracle BI or Oracle BAM)?
    2. Every time we plan to develop Dashboard or report in BAM, we need to create BAM ADC Data Object to store Data (i.e first step is to get data from external database or application and second step is to store data in BAM ADC data object).
My understanding is we have an extra step(i.e creating Data Object) in Oracle BAM to develop a report or DashBoard
I am wrong pl correct me?

  • Oracle Clusterware and Oracle Real Application Clusters Install Guide

I've downloaded the latest "Oracle Database - Oracle Clusterware and Oracle Real Application Clusters Install Guide - 10g Release 2 (10.2) for HP-UX PA-RISC" (part no. B14202-01) dated August 2005 from OTN. I'm getting the following error when opening the pdf file in Adobe Reader:
"Cannot extract the embedded font 'PEPPLC+Palatino-Italic'. Some characters may not display or print properly."
When I print the manual, I get blank pages throughout the document which, in my opinion, should contain text and don't. Specifically pages 1-11, 2-5, 2-19, 2-24, 2-33, 3-5, 3-19 to name a few. When I go to those pages within the pdf file in Adobe Reader, I get the error: "There was a problem reading this document (114)."
Can you verify this problem on your end. Also, how do I get a good copy of this document?

    Hi!
Apologies for the delay in responding to you. Please try the documentation library, part B19306-01 at URL: http://www.oracle.com/technology/documentation/database10gR2.html. Search for the part B14202-01 and click: pdf at top right. Part B14202-01 documentation pdf is currently displaying and printing on this end. The blank pages at the end of each main topic are inserted on purpose.
Another link to part B14202-01, on OTN is under the OEM, Oracle Enterprise Manager 10g Release 2 (10.2): http://www.oracle.com/pls/db102/portal.portal_db?selected=21

  • Architectural Difference between Oracle 8i and Oracle 9i

    hello there
anybody can tell me precisely what is the architecture difference in Oracle 8i and Oracle 9i.
or provide me the link where i can get it.
    waiting for reply

What do you mean by "architectural differences"? Fundamentally, Oracle architecture hasn't changed a whole lot in a couple of decades. Certain implementations within the overall Oracle architecture will change over time, normally to support some new feature.
Locally managed tablespaces, for example, automatic segment space management, and automatic extent allocation are pretty important new features, but they don't fundamentally change the architecture of allocating space for objects to store data.

  • Differenece between oracle streams and oracle Replication

    Hi all,
Can anyone tell me difference between oracle streams and oracle replication?
    Regards

refer the link:Difference Between Oracle Replication & Oracle Streams.
Oracle Replication is designed to replicate exact copies of data sets to various databases. Oracle Streams is designed to propagate individual data changes to various databases. Thus, Replication is probably easier if the end goal is to maintain identical copies of data, where Streams is easier if the end goal is to allow different databases to react differently to data changes.
Oracle Replication is a significantly more mature product-- it is quite usable with older databases. Oracle Streams is a much newer technology and is only usable among different 9i databases. Most competent Oracle developers and DBA's are familiar with Oracle Replication, while many fewer have any real experience with Streams.
The Streams architecture strikes me as a lot more flexible than Oracle Replication's. This leads me to suspect that Oracle will be pushing Streams over Replication in subsequent releases, so I would expect new features in Streams, like DDL changes, that aren't in Oracle Replication. Realistically, though, I don't expect any serious movement away from Replication for at least a few releases, so I wouldn't tend to be overly concerned on this front.

  • Oracle forms and Oracle reports for Oracle 9i

    Hello,
I'm searching for Oracle forms and Oracle reports that works with Oracle 9i.
Does someone know where I can find them?
    Thanks in advance...

When we talk about Oracle9i, we often mean the database version 9i.
Apparently you want to use Forms and Reports 9i, which included in the obsolete (and very unhappy) Application Server 9i. ... Or the also obsolete Application Server 10g Release 1 (aka App Server 9.0.4.
You are encouraged to look at Forms and Reports 10g (part of the improved Application Server 10g) which does connect to Oracle Database 9i as well as Oracle Database 10g. Look for App Server 10g Release 2, version 10.1.2.0.2 and 10.1.2.2)

  • Regarding Doubt of oracle upgrade and oracle migration

    Hello,
What is the diffrence between oracle upgrade and oracle migration, duirng any one of this is oracle going to touch oracle database and its data?
    Regards,
    V.Singh

    Singh wrote:
Oracle migration means most likely from non-oracle database to migrate to oracle DB or lower hardware platform to higher/advance hardware platformI would say so. Note Oracle was also confused about word "+migrate+" since it was used till 9i to open the database in a special mode to upgrade the database itself. Nowadays, on 10g+, the command became "+upgrade+".
In oracle upgrade we are updating oracle's new software version (9i to 10g) or patchset (102.0.2 to 102.0.4), once software is updated we giving command statup upgrade , during this phase some scripts are updating data so i belive it is updating oracle realted views, data dictionary, functions, triggers etc etc , instead of touching oracle data.Yes, upgrade script modify Oracle data and objects dictionary, but do not modify user's data and objects (if we expect a recompile of invalide objects as recommanded by the latest step of an upgrade).

  • Select query differences between oracle 9 and oracle 8.

    Hi,
I have a problem using the select query between oracle 7 and oracle 9i I don't have the same result :
    ex:
    With oracle7
    SQL> select 'champ1','champ2' from DUAL;
    'CHAMP 'CHAMP
    champ1 champ2
    With Oracle 9
    SQL> select 'champ1','champ2' from DUAL;
    'CHAMP1' 'CHAMP2'
    champ1 champ2
So Can someone tell me how to solve this problem ? Is there a parameter in oracle 9 to set?
    Thanx.

Whenever you are posting anything over internet forums like this - you should be very careful about not just posting the details which requires to solve the problem - also should be sensible about your question.
This is not at all desired when you are posting such question. It may be because - you may not well aware of the fact.
My suggestion is -> First Go through the basics Of SQL in general.
Then go for any specific product like Oracle/ SQL Server/ Sybase etc.
And, finally learn the advanced commands of that DB.
You asked it - may be you thought the difference in output in terms of lines. But, that is not your actual output. That is the graphical display part only.
    Anyway,
You can get the quite familier output by first type the following command ->
    set lin 310Regards.

  • Oracle Spatial and Oracle Forms

    Hi,
Does anyone have experience with Oracle Spatial and Oracle Forms?
I have generated a form, which is based on a view. The view uses the mdsys.sdo_relate operator. Somehow I am unable to get the form to perform (to get one record it takes over 20 minutes). While useing sql-navigator to process the same statement it seems no problem. The query that also uses the view, is then processed in 10 seconds.
I also noticed that when text-functions like ' lower' of ' upper' are used to query the view, the query is processed within 15 seconds. If I don't use ' lower' or ' upper' it takes a long time (> 20 minutes) to process the query. Is it possible that this causes the bad performance of the form?
On metalink I have found that forms and spatial do not cooperate because of the pl/sql version that
forms6 uses. There is no solution presented, does anyone know of a work around?
    My configuration is:
    Oracle 8.1.7 on WIN2K @ PIII-800Mhz 256 Mb memory.
    Formsbuilder 6
If requested I can post the queries that I have made.

I read many documet about unicode, but i want to know this question.
If NLS_LANG is a standard there isn´t changes between the to versions.
