Oracle 9i book for beginner?

Hi,
I have about 5 years experience in developing database applications with Microsoft programming tools and SQL Server.
I want to start working with Oracle 9i.
Is there any recommended book on Oracle 9i for beginner?
Thanks in advanced,

Hi Asaf,
There is a huge collection of books on OTN on Oracle technologies at [url http://tahiti.oracle.com/]this link. Have a look at it. You can even check the online SQL documentation at [url http://download-west.oracle.com/docs/cd/B10501_01/server.920/a96540/toc.htm]this link.

  • Best book for beginner?

    Hello,
Can anyone recommend the best book for a complete novice to Illustrator?
Ive a background in GIS and am wanting to learn to improve my cartographic skills.
Does anyone know if theres a book out there that caters towards cartography in illustrator?
Anyway to get started and learn the basics any preference between Adobe Illustrator CS5 Classroom in a Book:
    http://www.amazon.co.uk/Adobe-Illustrator-CS5-Classroom-Book/dp/032170178X/ref=sr_1_1?ie=U TF8&qid=1306750888&sr=8-1
    and
The Adobe Illustrator CS5 Wow! Book:
    http://www.amazon.co.uk/Adobe-Illustrator-CS5-Wow-Book/dp/0321712447/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qi d=1306750974&sr=8-1
    Thanks for any help/advice!!

The WOW book is really for someone with a working knowledge of illustrator and in my opinion pretty useless especially for a beginner.
Classroom in a Book is an instructional book with tutorials to follow and will give you a working knowledge of how Illustrator works.
Mordy Goldings Book Real World Illustrator will give essentially instructional use of the program similar to informatio in the help files but in an instructional way organized fro the beginning to to end of the features.
As far as for Cartography I do not know why there is not one on the market as one of he contributors to the WOW book is a cartographer.
Illustrator is used a lot by map makers so it would probably be a good idea to have such a book.

  • Good Oracle DB book for MySQL users?

I'm new to Oracle. I have a good amount of experience with MySQL. I was wondering if there is a book written as an introduction to Oracle for people already familiar with MySQL.

    Hi,
The best place to start is at the Oracle documentation site -
    http://www.oracle.com/technology/documentation/index.html
and from there choose the 'DBAs' tab under 'Getting Started' and this has pointers to basic information.

  • Any Suggestions on Oracle Forms Book for Beginners?

    Hi Everyone,
I want to learn Oracle Forms development. What book or references can you suggest for beginners like me?

Not read it but http://www.amazon.co.uk/Oracle-Developer-Techniques-Bulusu-Lakshman/dp/0672318466 seems to get good reviews.

  • Best books for beginner

I've been a mac user for ages. I know how to use the software I need but I know nothing of what goes on "under the bonnet".
I'm not really interested in becoming an expert, but I'd like to understand how to set up (home)networks and what terms like DNS and IP mean. (and maybe some of the utilities within OSX)
Can anyone recommend a book or perhaps online (video) tutorial that might enlighten me please?
Sadly there are no Apple Stores here that I can benefit from.

Visit a local bookstore and look through their collection of books on computers. Usually there is a group of books about Macs. You can also "browse" the collection of Mac books on Amazon.com or similar online bookseller local to NZ and OZ. You can also check out the bookstore at U. of Auckland.

  • Best/Worst Labview Book for Beginner/Advanced/Good Reference

I saw a few other posts like this one but they were not very informative.
I thought I'd start this thread so everyone can voice thier opinion on what the best/worst Labview Reference is so that beginners (like me) and people just seeking information can know what to, and more importantly what NOT to buy.
List the good/bad points about the book like:
Does it teach good coding style?
Is it a good reference when you are done reading it?
How are the examples in it?
    Is it easy to understand?
    Things of that nature...
Again I'm sorry for kind of reposting this question but like I said, the other posts just give a list of LV books and not any information about them, not even if they are worth reading. It just looked like a listing from a search on Amazon.

    LabView 7.1, Windows XP

Some other users recommended recently the book "LABVIEW Graphical Programming -- Practical Applications in Instrumentation and Control" by Gary W. Johnson. I haven't read it myself. This site has a big knowledgebase with many tutorials and examples, many of them many good, but they are usually topic specific and do not work as a course.
You should try to reread the manual in a few months. After you have gained some experience it is much easier to read and you will find it has some very interesting stuff.
As a side point, most people on this site do not get paid for doing this. Only those with blue names are from NI. The rest of us do this as a personal basis for several reasons: We like to help people, there are some very interesting things which can be learned from being around here and it's usually just plain fun (try looking at the BreakPoint. If you appreciate it, why not come back when you have more experience and help others?
Try to take over the world!

  • Book for exam 1Z0_233 - 11i Install Patch and Maintain Oracle Applications

    Hi,
I am looking for Study guide / exam guide for the exam 1Z0-233 : 11i Install Patch and Maintain Oracle Applications
    http://education.oracle.com/pls/web_prod-plq-dad/db_pages.getpage?page_id=41&p_org_id=&lang=&p_exam_id=1Z0_233
I have Oracle education book which is issued after attending 5 day training course. That is good enough
But Still want to have Books that we get for Database track certifications
I think, since this certification is new, it might not be published yet
    Have checked Amazon.com and OraclePress.com
    Anybody has any clue ?

Anyone know if there are any plans in the works for an Oracle Press book for the 1Z0-233 exam?
    Also, has anyone read:

  • Oracle books for apex ?

    hi all ,
does not oracle offer books for learning apex ?
if i had a course in oracle , will not she give me a book to learn from it !!
i do not find books regarding apex in the market except some of some writers
    books like
    beggining oracle application express
    and
    pro application express
and 2 day + developers guide on apex documentation
and they are not enough at all
    is there another resources ?
    thanks in advance

Well, all the books and tutorials start from beginer level and go to some advanced levels.
Just like you cannot learn to swim without getting into water, you cannot learn Apex without dabbling in it ;-)
Get yourself an installation of Apex and start off with that and a book / tutorial/ Help (which is also pretty good).
No text books, the likes of Haliday & Resnick Part 1 & 2 for Physics or G.B. Thomas for Calculus / Coordinate Geometry in real world !

The forms 6i demo is downloaded from oracle website:

  • What are the BEST books for Oracle database architect/designer?

What concrete books would you recommend for OLTP database developer (to start from the scratch, starting from data sources analysis, logical and physical data modeling, indexes, tuning, maintaining). It doesn't have to be a book particulary for Oracle but suitable for it..
I don't mean books DBA's or overall Oracle handbooks, also not for OLAP.
    Thanks!

For learning how to use Oracle database effectively, i would say
    Tom Kyte's both books:
    Effective Oracle by design
    & Expert Oracle Database Architecture
    Jonathan Lewis's
    Practical Oracle 8i
They tell you all the stuff: what/how to do something? and most importantly what/how not to do ?
And their writing style is just awesome :)

  • Regarding Good book for Oracle Service Bus 11g

    Hi All,
What is the good book for Oracle Service Bus 11g in the below list(or You can also specify any book other than from below list)?
1)Oracle Service Bus 11g Development Cookbook
2)Oracle Service bus in 21 days
3)The definitive guide to SOA:Oracle Service Bus,Second edition (or)first edition?
Can yOu help me out which is the good book for OSB?

    Hi Deilby,
    Thank You for your reply.
According to my understanding(I don't know whether it is correct or not),If you want to have full-fledged OSB development,we need to have eclipse.
If you just need to have routing and transformation along with SOA suite development,We can use OSB console .
Can You also look into this below SOA forums thread with SOA-OSB questions? If I have 'Oracle
Service Bus 11g Development Cookbook' , Can I answer all those questions?
    https://forums.oracle.com/thread/2559964?tstart=0
My intention is clear,I want to have full-fledged OSB development information(important components) and that leads to have good exposure to face questions.
Can You help me out to clarify my understanding and recommend the book according to that?
Note: I already worked on SOA Suite.I worked on OSB console. I think whatever we canĀ  do with OSB eclipse development the samething we can do with OSB console along with SOA suite.
    Can You clarify on this?
