Oracle 9i certification v/s 11g certification

i am planning for OCP. but i have a dillemma about the certification in the different versions of the oracle database. i want to knowif there is a difference in 9i certification and 11g certification. If i do certification in 9i would it have the same value as the 11g one. As the 11g is an upgraded version of oracle so would it affect if i do certification in 9i. Thanks in advance for your help..

It depends on you. You should know that 9i is not supported any more. However, to have more certifications and learn get more information about some aspects of Oracle (For example Performance Tuning and etc.) you can start from 9i. It is 4 exams. I did the same. First of all I wasn't thinking about passing 9i exams, so passed 10g exams. Then I realized that 9i exams has a big value, thus prepared for 9i exams and passed them one by one. No, I can just give one exam to have 11g OCP certification
You can directly start from 11g and become 11g OCP
You can be 10g OCP and upgrade to 11gOCP by passing only one exam
You can pass all 9i exams and then pass only two exams to have 10g and 11g OCP
The choice depends on you
Good Luck
P.S. For the next questions related to certification, you can post your question directly unde specific [Certification forum|http://forums.oracle.com/forums/forum.jspa?forumID=459]

  • Should I go for Oracle 10g OCA/OCP or 11g OCA/OCP Certification?

    Hi all,
I am lil bit confuse to decide about my oracle core dba certification.
Please help me to know, as per the present requirements of the business organizations.
    ***Should I go for Oracle 10g OCA/OCP or 11g OCA/OCP Certification?***
Hope u guys answer me earliest.
    Thanks & Regards,

Most likely, it doesn't matter too much. I doubt that most employers are terribly concerned with what recent version of Oracle you have a certification on.
    That said, if it matters
    - What does your organization use? What are their plans to upgrade? If your company still uses 9.2 primarily and has plans to upgrade to 10.2 this year, you're probably better off with a 10g certification. If your company is already running mostly 11.2, you're probably better off with an 11g certification.
    - What do most employers in your particular part of the world tend to use? What do job postings in your particular part of the world generally list?

    With Regards,
RkThe Oracle PL/SQL deveoper certifications is not version specific; probably becuase in general changes are version specific.
If general you need to pass one or mor exams for a certification.
The relevant page for yourself is here (in case you didnt already find it):
So for instance if you passed 1z0-051 and 1z0-144 you would gain a PL/SQL OCA certification
: 1z0-0147 is an alternative exam for 1z0-144
: 1z0-007 is an alternative for 1z0-051 (as is 1z0-047 but that generally though to be more difficult)
A PL/SQL OCA who also passes 1z0-146 gets a PL/SQL developer OCP. (There is no hands on course requirement for a PL/SQL OCP, unlike a DBA OCP)
:: As an added confused 1z0-144 is currently in beta (as exam 1z0-144 until 10th sept. 2009). The production exam will not then release for another 10/13 weeks, say 1st december 2009.
For most people I would recommend concentrating on 1z0-051 first.
Hoping I have not confused you more - bigdelboy.

  • Oracle 11g certification in Developer track

I would like to go for Oracle 11g certification in Developer track. I've already given 1Z0-051 paper.
Is OCA 11g certification in Developer track now available. And if it is not currently available, I believe when it is going to be released the first paper is going to the be same (1Z0-051) and I could give the second paper and get the certification.
    Please advise.

Could you please explain what is the difference between beta exam and the normal one.Q) What is the difference between a Beta exam and a production exam?
    A) Beta exams are used by Oracle to test new exam questions with the participation of a live audience. Data gathered during beta testing are used to select the best questions for the production exam, and to eliminate questions that are ambiguous, too easy or too difficult, or are unhelpful in evaluating participants' knowledge level. Beta exams are offered at a discounted price; and candidates usually have either 3 or 3.5 hours to complete the exam, and may see 175 - 220 questions. For more details on how beta exams differ from the production version, visit the Oracle Certification Beta Exam Information web page.

I see that 1Z0-146 is the final paper for OCP (Advanced PL/SQL programmer). Can I not get a OCA certification in 11g?You can get the "Oracle PL/SQL Developer Certified Associate" certificate if you pass (1Z0-001 or 1Z0-007 or 1Z0-047 or 1Z0-051) + 1Z0-147 exam.

  • Can I attend Oracle 10g DBA course & attempt DBA Certification for 11g

    Hi,
I am already OCP-PLSQL and want to attempt OCP-DBA stream. I enquired at various oracle education centers and came to know that all are conducting courses for Oracle-10g.
So can I attend Oracle 10g DBA course (Mandatory Course) and attempt DBA Certification for 11g. (1ZO-052 and 1ZO-053)
    Thanks,

    Thanks,
Vikrant PatilYou can do these thing, and Oracle will take your money for it, but you will receive neither 11g DBA OCP certication nor 10g DBA OCP Certification at the end of it. So it isnt what you would ant to do.
Oracle Unviersity would provide the 11g DBA training courses ... No problem.
however I suspect what you term oracle education centers are probaby institutes offering WDP Courses at 10g DBA (on the cheap). See http://workforce.oracle.com
If you do 10g training then that will only be valid for 10g DBA OCP Certification .. so you would need to take 1z0-042 and 1z0-043 (I guess you already have an SQL Exam pass). Then 1z0-050 can upgrade it to 11g DBA OCP.
(Note that it does not affect you, but the converse is typically true .... version X+1 training will often be acceptable for a version X certification.)

  • BPM 11g Certification Matrix

    Hi everyone!
We are looking for the certification matrix from BPM 11g (in particular for non oracle middleware).
We found the certification matrix from 10g ( [http://www.oracle.com/technology/products/bpm/obpm_config_matrix.html] )
    Thanks in advance,
    Diego.

    Hi Diego,
The certification for BPM 11g is the same as for SOA 11g. You'll find details here:
    http://www.oracle.com/technology/software/products/ias/files/fusion_certification.html
BPM 11g is not yet certified on non-Oracle app servers.

  • Certification Matrix shows 11g EE "projected" on Mac Intel also

On the Oracle Certification Matrix (http://www.oracle.com/technology/support/metalink/index.html)
    Product "Database/Server"
    Database Product " Ent. Edition"
    Platform "Apple Mac Intel"
    you get:
Certify - Oracle Database - Enterprise Edition Version 11gR1 On Apple MAC Intel
Operating System: Apple MAC Intel Version -
Oracle Database - Enterprise Edition Version 11gR1
    N/A Version N/A
    Status: Projected
    Product Version Note:
    None available for this product.
    Certification Note:
    STBA
    What does it mean "STBA"?
Most other platforms (AIX, Solaris, Linux, HP/UX) have
    "Status: Projected" also,
but they have as "Certification Note" a 4th Quarter 2007 acronym:
    Q4CY2007

It's now mid-2010 and we are still waiting ...
We use Pearson PowerSchool in our school district and just got this notice from them:
We’ve been anticipating an update from Oracle, which would allow us to deploy Oracle 11g on the Mac. The Windows version from Oracle has been available for nearly 2 years; however, there is still no published delivery date from Oracle for a Mac version.
Complicating matters, the current version of Oracle for the Mac is not compatible with Mac OS X 10.6.x Snow Leopard, which has been shipping since August 2009. New customers, and existing customers who want to upgrade their hardware, would find new Apple servers are incompatible with the current Oracle database. Oracle has not provided a date by which the current version of the Oracle Mac Database (10gR2) will be certified on Mac OS X 10.6.
Oracle’s diminishing commitment to the Apple platform has left Pearson with limited options for customers using Mac servers. We do not have a commitment from Oracle for future versions of the database supporting the Mac, and current versions of the Oracle database are incompatible with new hardware running Mac OS X 10.6.
Therefore, all Mac customers should make plans to replace their Mac database servers with a Windows-based database server (physical or virtual). Pearson will discontinue support for the Mac database server effective December 31, 2010.*
Should Oracle issue a version of 11g with Mac compatibility, we will evaluate support options for this platform again.
This is extremely bad news for us as we are a Macintosh district and don't have the resources to support Windows servers. Why is Oracle not supporting Mac OS X? Is there anyone we can complain to or is it just a hopeless cause?

  • OCA11g to OCP 11g certification !

I have completed my OCA 11g certification. I would like to go for 11g OCP (i.e. IZO-053)
The constraints for 11g OCP are that candidates must complete one of the instructor-led online or in class courses below
    •     Oracle Database 11g: Data Warehousing Fundamentals
    •     Oracle 11g: RAC and Grid Infrastructure Administration Accelerated Release 2
    •     Oracle Database: Develop PL/SQL Program Units Ed 1
    •     Oracle Database 11g: Administration Workshop II Ed 2 LVC

    •     Oracle Database 11g: Administration Workshop II Release 2
But the real problem is that Oracle Workforce program does not provide the training on any of the 11g courses.
My question is that will it be alright if I take in class training on Oracle Database: Introduction to SQL (i.e. 10g) through Oracle Workforce Program and appear for OCP 11g certification?
    thnx in advance

SatishRightly or wrongly, as far as i know some WDP providers are provding WDP courses at 11g ... this may only be in some countries. (I think WDP only provides Oracle Database 11g: Administration Workshop I and II), but WDP programme can be a law unto itself). It may be an eligible 11g SQL is now available via WDP ... which might make a mockery of hands on training).
( My understanding back a few years ago at 9i WDP has to complete a complete end-to-end training track .... he width of the training perhapa compensating for possibly more guarenteed quality training from OU.
Anyway to answer your question .... a 10g course will not be acceptable for 11g DBA certification. (However in general most 11g courses should be acceptable for 10g DBA or 9i DBA certification).

    Hi All,
I want to prepare for 11g certification. The first exam is 11g sql fundamentals. Am a DBA, in day to day activities we use few sqls, but not to great extent. Let me know which documentation i have to study to take up this exam.

Let me know which documentation i have to study to take up this exam. OK. The easy answer as a DBA is i would expect you to know how to look up Oracle documentation!
However ... relevant links are as follows:-

http://education.oracle.com/pls/web_prod-plq-dad/db_pages.getpage?page_id=41&p_exam_id=1Z0_051 ... this gives the exam topics ...
    ... The from http://docs.oracle.com to
    ..... to http://www.oracle.com/pls/db112/homepage
..... Locate relevant sections in SQL Language Reference etc.
.......... In practice the exam focuses Oracle Press and Sybex books such as 9780071629188 proably guide quite well ... though they do have a few mistakes.
If you are aiming for 11gDBA OCP (and are not already a DBA OCP) you will need authorised training at some point, so best to plan this at the start of your journey.
If you have had prior authorized training DBA for a lower version of Oracle 9i/10g then you may save yourself expense by persuing certification at that lower version first.

  • 11g certification matrix

What possible reason could there be for requiring an Oracle Support Identifier just to see the certification matrix for 11g?
    On this page
    http://www.oracle.com/technology/software/products/database/oracle11g/111060_linuxsoft.html
there is a link to the certification matrix. Clicking that link takes me to https://support.oracle.com/CSP/ui/flash.html
On that screen I have to log in with an ID that is associated with an Oracle Support Identifier number.
