Oracle 9i Client on Windows xp
So that we may better diagnose DOWNLOAD problems, please provide the following information.
- Server name
- Filename
- Date/Time
- Browser + Version
- O/S + Version
- Error Msg
I'm trying to connect to a server on campus from my house and I'm completely unable to connect because the SQL Plus states "Error: ORA-12154: TNS: could not resolve service name". What the hell does that mean and how can I connect???? I have already adjusted my tnsnames.ora file as the professors suggested but that doesn't seem to fix the problem...
Hi,
I just had a similar issue. Is the CLASSPATH environment variable already defined? If so check all the applications that are referenced by this CLASSPATH. I found one application to be using java 1.1.0 instead of java 1.3 or later.

Oracle 8i Client Setup - Windows 2000
We have just installed Oracle 8i on a Windows NT server, and are using the standard LISTENER configuration.
On the client side, we are trying to use Windows 2000. When the install process goes through the setup routine, it keeps wanting to use NAMES SERVER as the way to connect to the server.
There does not appear to be anything that we are doing that would change this set up, ad yet, we can not seem to generate a TNSNAMES.ORA files on the client.
ARe there any known problems with using a Windows2000 client to a WindowsNt server, and if not, what advice might anyone have?Hi Douglas:
Can you email me copies of the following:
tnsnames.ora
listener.ora
sqlnet.ora
If any of the files contains a link to the pfile send me that as well.
Thanks

Install Oracle 11g client on Windows 7
Hi,
I am getting an error while installing Oracle 11g R1 client(11.1.0.7.0) on Windows 7 x32.
Error: OUI-18001: The operating system 'Windows Vista Version 6.1' is not supported.
Recommendation : install the recommended service pack.Only for Oracle 10g client installation on win 7 32, 64 bit
To get going with oracle on windows 7 64-bit. You can install oracle 10g 32 which you use for windows XP. Its unusal but successful. Install 10G it will get installed on program files x86. Then open tnsnames.ora files which will be either in program files x86/oracle/....search or it will be in c:\oracle...write the correct server name in tnsnames and in PB while doing the configuration..write tns:servername in the server textbox. I did that and it got connected...incase u need any help let me know my email address is [email protected]
cheers

Hello, I have searched several forums (including this one) for help with this problem but i havnt found anything.
Basically we have been using oracle 9i client on winXP for quite some time now and are going to upgrade to windows 7 64 bit, this is in a production environment. I install the client using the installation wizard (or oracle univrsal installer). When i reach the stage where you can specify the destination locations it is set to C:\program files (x86)\oracle\oui. After this the net configuration wizard starts and i am eventually asked to specify the host name followed by the username and password to test the connection to that host name (or server). At this point i get a message saying "Connecting... ORA-06413: Connection not open. The test did not succeed".
Is this to do with a compatibility issue with windows 7? i tried testing this on a 32 bit version of windows 7 and it seemed to work fine. I read somewhere that the parentheses in the C:\program files (x86) would cause such errors. It seems like this would be the case, but in my research i havnt found anyone run into this on the universal installer wizard. Any way i tried copying and pasting the C:\program files (x86) folder to rename and remove the parentheses and try installing in there, but to no avail. Are there any other workarounds that anyone knows of or is there a patch available to resolve this?
Any help would be greatly appreciatedHi,
The minimum supported version for windows 7 is 10.2.0.5. Unsupported version may work, but it will create unexpected issues.

How to remove Oracle 11g client from Windows 7 64-bit workstation.
When the Oracle 11g client was installed on a Windows 7 64-bit workstation, it was mistakenly installed as "Administrator".
We do not wish to do this; instead we want to install this client as a user with Administrator privileges.
PLEASE NOTE THE DIFFERENCE BEFORE REPLYING TO THIS THREAD!!!!!!!!
When I try to install the client, I get a message sending me to this directory:
F:\app\Administrator
I do not know why this message is produced; the directory it refers to DOES NOT EXIST.
My suspicion is that there extraneous entries in the registry which have not been removed; the obvious ones such as HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\ORACLE have been deleted.
What I believe I need is a COMPLETE list of entries placed in the registry upon installation of the Oracle client.
The obvious problem is that the Uninstall feature of Oracle client does NOT FULLY remove all of the above entries.
As a side note, the Oracle client software installation needs to be revamped to detect situations such as this and provide a course of corrective actions.I've not done it yet with 11g, but prior editions, there are 3 things that have to be done to eradicate an oracle client installation from Windows, after running uninstaller
1) delete the registry key HKLM\software\oracle
2) delete the ORACLE_HOME directory from the file system
3) delete c:\Program Files\oracle -
How to Client Oracle 8i Client for window 95
I want to know how to obtain Net8 Driver for window 95. I already have Oracle 8i EE linux version. Is Linux version include net8 for window 95 or not. If havn't, Only Oracle 8i EE for window NT include it.
The only place I have been able to find the Windows 95/98/NT CLIENT software is from the Oracle 8/8i for NT download/CD.
It seems to work well if you run the Oracle 8/8i for NT install (even on Win95/98) and select only the client software install. On the 8iR2 version there are some nice additional options regarding the kind of client (user/programmer/admin/...).
I find it silly that I have to download 200+MB just to install a Win95/98 client to access my Linux database server but that does seem to be the only answer. I searched and asked and searched and asked and this was the only answer I ever received.

Latest Oracle 11g Client for Windows
I was able to download base Oracle 11g Client from
http://www.oracle.com/technology/software/products/database/oracle11g/111060_win32soft.html
Does anybody knows if this latest what they have for 11g ? Did Oracle release any patchset on top of that?Patch 11.1.0.7.0 is available for download from metalink. Patch number is 6890831. Of course, you would need to use your metalink login credentials for this download.

Oracle 11g client for Windows 8 - 64bit exists impromptu without error msg
HI all.
I just got a new laptop and its running Windows 8 Pro 64 bit os. I downloaded Oracle Client 11g 64bit from the oracle website. After clicking the setup.exe installer a msg box pops up saying '[INS -13003] Environment does not meet the requirement' with no further information. Yet i go ahead and continue becos i was told it was a general error and should be ignored.
After that, the GUI comes up. I select Administrator (or any) installation type, the language, specify my installation location but on performing prerequisite check, it exists without error. Any help? The 12c client install is documented at Contents
- it is a pretty straightforward process once you have downloaded the software. Did you try to install the full client or the Instant Client ?
11.2.0.1 install may or may not complete correctly - if it does, there is no guarantee that it will function as expected

I am using SSRS 2008 which is 64 bit, for retreiving the data from Oracle (which is 11g - 32 bit), I am unable to create data source for Oracle.
I had installed ODAC Components of Oracle 11.1.0.7.20 on the server, but still I am getting the following error:
"The 'OraOLEDB.Oracle.1' provider is not registered on the local machine."
Does any one know how to install Oracle Client 11g on Windows Server 2008 R2 Operating system?Helios,
It is wonderful that you are polite and encouraging to new people.
While you are responding, could you explicitly direct people to use the correct forum. This has at least 2 benefits:
1) Ensures that the person gets the widest possible amount of assistance;
2) Ensures that the rest of us do not need to waste time on improperly placed questions.
I suggest 'explicitly' since some people do not get the hint, and keep returning to the original thread.
This thread belongs in 'Database - General' or 'Database - Install'. -
