Oracle 9i Client ONLY Download?

Anyone,
From the online downloads is there any place to get what can install the Oracle Client "ONLY".
We have a site License to Oracle need to have remote sites be able to set up connectivity. Trying to avoid having them download entire 300M of Oracle Lite just to get the Oracle Client/SQL Net installation and/or burn CD and ship to them to install.
Thanks in advance,
David Miller

That 600MB file is exactly what I wanted to avoid having them download.
They are not on a very good pipe and I am never goingto hear the end of how long it takes to download.
I am AMAZED that Oracle can not create a "thin client" for their software... Unbelieveable.. This is why SQL Server is catching up so fast....
Thanks,
David Miller

  • Oracle 10g client software downloads

    Hi Guys,
    Can anyone direct me to the above. If you've got an existing client software i.e. 9i Do you have to remove it first or it will be automatically be removed / upgraded. What are about the existing configuartions, will they be lost or will stay the same?
    Thank you.

    Hi,
    E.g: If you install 10g client, this will install it in a different home and you will keep both. When Installing the new version you can remove previous installations if you desire (This option is in the first or second screen if I'm not wrong).

  • Downloading Oracle 11g client

    I'm trying to download the oracle 11g client 11.1.0.7.0 version and on the download page, I saw the message saying "Oracle Database 11g Release 1 (11.1.0.7.0)
    for Microsoft Windows Server 2008 (32-bit)".
    Is it just for MS Windows Server 2008? or will work on any windows based 32 bit machine?
    Just asking 'cuase for 11.1.0.6.0 version, it just mentioned that 'Microsoft Windows (32-bit)'.
    Thanks!

    Just asking 'cuase for 11.1.0.6.0 version, it just mentioned that 'Microsoft Windows (32-bit)'.Yup - That one for Windows Server 2008 is specifically for that version. 'nuff internals have changed in Windows that Oracle had to release a special version to get a good install. It'll likely fail it you try it on an older version of Windows.
    If it's not qualified for a specific version then it is compatible with all? older versions currently supported by the OS vendor. (I believe that Windows 2000 is not longer under official support.)
    But that should not be a problem - the free download version is only for test/evaluation/training and you don't need any patches for that. WHen you are ready to put it into production. you'll properly license and get Support, at which time you can patch up to 11.1.0.7.1

  • How to configure mail client to only download headers(titles) of emails

    Hi there?
    I have 10 different email accounts (for some weird reasons that i think irrelevant fir this question), and i want to use Mail app as my main client. iCloud, hotmail, yahoo, gmail, other imap and pop etc.
    Now the mail client is trying to download everything from the servers which is gigs of storgae space. I need to configure mail to only download titles of emails, not the entire email with attachments etc.
    I can do that very simply in MS Outlook, and even in the old outlook express client.
    How can i do that in Mavericks mail client please? I looked everywhere
    Thanks

    Try going to the web based site and see if you can set up a temporary folder there. Move anything you don't want to download to that folder.

  • Need to download Oracle 10g client - 64 bit

    I have to move many of my applications to a new server, and this one is a win2008, 64-bit system.
    So... I need to download the oracle 10g client - but 64-bit version, and SQL Plus.
    But I can't find it. I found 2 big files under databases for 11g, but I want the client; I don't want to set up a new database system. I just want to install the client so my software can continue to talk to existing databases.

    If apps are 32-bit their libraries (e.g. Oracle Client libs) are 32-bit also - regardless if host system is 64-bit or not.

    However - simplest way of supplying OCI libraries is by Instant Client.
    It's just a few files and not even a real "install", just drop the files in PATH or in same folder as app executable file.
    http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/database/features/instant-client/index-097480.html
    (and if you find it's not suitable for your specific apps, then you could always remove and install the traditional Client package)
    If you have ODP.Net, Asp.Net or OLE DB apps, then look for the ODAC package with Xcopy Deployment. It builds on Instant Client (and it is included).

  • Cannot Download Oracle 9i client

    I get the 404 error when I click on any of the zip file links for the Oracle 9i client downloads. Is there a problem with the download availability?

    Hello,
    It's still possible from the following site:

  • Where can I download oracle 9i client?

    I need to find oracle 9i client to use connect to my database.
    I had try to find it on ORAcLE.com but ORACLE had remove the link.
    Where can I find it?
    If it not possible to find, I can use ORACLE 10g R2 client to connect ORACLE 9i?

    I am so sorry that you are not able to find it.
    I went to the http://edelivery.oracle.com and, after carefully reading the (admittedly confusing) first page, I followed the appropriate links to find the Oracle9i Release 2 CD set. (And no, I can not provide a direct link ... you must go through the process to set appropriate session information.)
    Perhaps you did not click on 'Continue' in the first paragraph? I used the 'English' language setting and the paragraph reads
    "To download any Oracle product that is currently available to license, choose a language or *Continue* to export validation."
    For your convenience, I highlighted in bold the word that you need to click on, but note that you need to do that on the eDelivery site and not in the above paragraph.
    To avoid further possible confusion once you get to the correct page, please note that in Oracle9i you could not get a separate 'Client' CD but rather needed to select 'install client' from the installer run after downloading the entire 3-CD set. I understand how confusing that might be, and therefore encourage reading the install instructions in http://www.oracle.com/pls/db92/db92.docindex?remark=homepage#index-INS if you have not had the opportunity to do so.

  • Oracle client only patches

    Hey guys,
    I have a query regarding Oracle patches/CPUs. Are there normally any Oracle client only patches avaiable?
    I know that you get the server patches and CPUs where you upgrade the server and the client gets updated too (provided they share the Oracle Home).
    But would there be any patches/CPUs that are applicable to clients only?
    The platforms I'm interested in are:- Windows 32bit & Solaris SPARC 64bit.
    Thanks in advance

    There is nothing much really to it. We (my company) recommend certain Oracle CPU patches to be updated clients and servers.
    If they are the same version and on the same system, it is no problem.
    But if the client and server are of different versions and on different systems, we recommend to install certain client CPU patches and certain server CPU patches.
    I believe that there is no 'client-only' CPU patch and as confirmed by others in this thread.
    Which is why I wanted to whether there is a 'server-only' installation where CPU patches would be applied only to server rather than the client.
    I hope it makes sense!
    Thanks.

    My understanding is that the client only configuration should connect to a remote tuxedo domain as an anonymous client instead of a peer tuxedo domain, but the remote tuxedo gateway domain listener is acting like the client has to be configured in its dmconfig file before it will allow the connection request. Is there a different kind of listener the client only configuration should connect to instead of the tuxedo gateway domain listener? How can a remote tuxedo domain accept a connection from an anonymous client if the client must first be specified in the remote domain's dmconfig file? Is this a tuxedo 11g only feature? I'm trying to connect to a tuxedo 10.3 server.

    Looks like this is an RTFM question. From:
    [http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/E18050_01/jca/docs11gr1/users/jca_usersguide.html]
    Is the following:
    Dynamic RemoteAccessPoint (RAP) Insertion
    In order to make default LocalAccessPoint to work, Oracle Tuxedo GWTDOMAIN gateway configuration is required in order to make this simplified /Domain configuration to work.
    GWTDOMAIN gateway must be modified to allow Dynamic RemoteAccessPoint (RAP) Registration. If DYNAMIC_RAP is set to YES, it will also update the in-memory database of the status of the connection from those dynamically registered RAP. If the connection from those dynamically registered RAP lost then the information about that RAP will be removed from the SHM database.
    GWADM must be modified to process the DM MIB correctly to reflect the connection status of those dynamically registered RAP. When the connection from those dynamically registered RAP lost their entries in the SHM database will also be removed so that the DM MIB query can return the connection status correctly.
    The dynamically registered RAP will be added to /DOMAIN configuration permanently. Their existence will only be known when the Session is established. Their existence will be lost when the connection is lost.
    The DM_CONNECTION Oracle Tuxedo /Domain DMIB call returns all the connected dynamically registered RemoteAccessPoint. All other dynamically registered RemoteAccessPoint that are not connected will not be shown.
    The OPENCONNECTION DMIB request will not be supported to connect to those dynamically registered RAP.
    The CLOSECONNECTION Oracle Tuxedo /DMIB request closes the connection and remove the session from those dynamically registered RemoteAccessPoint, and returns its connection status as 'UNKNOWN.
    The PERSISTENT_DISCONNECT type of CONNECTION_POLICY will be honored that means when PERSISTENT_DISCONNECT is in effect all connections request from any RAP, whether they are dynamically or non-dynamically registered, will be rejected.
    I must have overlooked this section when reading it. Looks like I've got more configuration to do.
    Thanks,
    Steve

  • Oracle 10g client not connecting to Oracle 8i server

    I have oracle 8i server already installed. I downloaded Oracle 10g client recently. I installed it on one machine and trying to connect to 8i server. I used TNSnames.ora which was already present on the machine. After entering the username, password and service name in SQL plus, I got a error saying server version not suported. Does 10g client not support 8i server or am I doing something wrong ?

    There is an 8.1.7.4 patchset for Windows.
    If you take a look at the Instant Client forum, there are some discussions on this where one of the Oracle product managers (Mr. Jue) has chimed in. At present, only connections to 8.1.7.4 and higher are supported. It is expected that the first 10g patchset will fix this bug and allow connections to 8.1.7.0 and above databases.

  • Error Compiling php 5.1.6 with Oracle Instant Client 10.1.0.5 on Fedora 5

    Hello
    I have Oracle 10.1.0 enterprise database installed on a Windows 2003 server.
    I have another machine that has Fedora Core 5 installed on it. I downloaded:
    Apache 2.2.3
    Php 5.1.6
    OracleInstantClient 10.1.0.5 (base and skdk packages) from technet.oracle.com
    I created a directory called /usr/lib/instantclient10_1 in which I unzipped
    the files for the Oracle Instant Client and the SDK into /usr/lib/instantclient10_1.
    So inside /usr/lib/instantclient10_1 I have:
    all the unzipped filed from the base for the instant client as well as
    a directory called sdk with files inside this subdirectory.
    I compiled and installed Apache.
    I then tried to configure php using the instantclient with the configure option
    --with-oci8=instantclient/usr/lib/instantclient10_1
    The first time I did this I got the error: "link from
    /usr/lib/instantclient10_1/libclntsh.so to libclntsh.so.10
    not found"
    Well I had the libclntsh.so.10 but no such link. So I did the following:
    ln -s libclntsh.so.10.1 libclntsh.so
    I assume this was OK to do but I found it strange that I had to do this.
    Question #1 - why should I have to do this?
    I then tried to configure php again but got an error that I paste in from
    the debug.log. From this debug log you can see the configure options I gave for
    php as well as the error. It says "cannot find -lirc". Now I did put into
    /etc/ld.so.conf the line /usr/lib/gaim since that is where libirc.so is and ran
    ldconfig but it still complained. When I copied libirc.so into /usr/lib it then said there were
    lots of errors in that libirc.so. The only item in the configure options depending on lirc is
    the with-oci8.  Why does with-oci8 depend on lirc?
    I also tried the above on Red Hat AS 4.0 and got the same errors.
    Question #2 -- what do I do?
    Thank You
    Gail Lange
    Here is the debug.log in the case when libirc.so is just in /usr/lib/gaim:

    To be perfectly honest, I'm not sure. Everything I could find on it had to do with IRC or some kind of remote control thing (for controlling audio/media players). Maybe if Ivan stops by he'll know what it means... he knows quite a lot about the inner workings of many of these libraries.
    http://us3.php.net/install.unix was the most useful info I could find.

    You must read carefully the following steps here. If you previously installed any Oracle's products on your machine, I strongly recommend you to clean up thoroughly before install the new products.
    ================================================================
    Uninstallation
    The easiest way to remove ALL traces of Oracle software, for an 8i installation, is:
    (1) Using regedit, remove the key \\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\\SOFTWARE\ORACLE.
    (2) Remove all the Oracle services (usually called Ora-something) from \\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services.
    (3) Go to the ORACLE_HOME directory (usually C:\Oracle\Ora81). Go to the BIN directory beneath this. Rename the file OCIW32.DLL to something like OCIW32.OLD.
    (4) Reboot your box.
    (5) Once you have logged on again, delete the directories C:\Program Files\Oracle and C:\Oracle.
    (6) Right-click on My Computer, select Properties->Environment. Edit the environmental variable PATH to remove all refernces to files in the two directories you have just deleted.
    (7) Remove the Oracle folders from your Start menu.
    *** Obviously, using regedit on your machine always entails risks, and I won't be held responsible if you end up trashing your system. However, the above procedure is one I have used many times with complete success. You have been warned! ;) ***
    As to logging on, the "standard" Oracle accounts are:
    SYS/change_on_install (SYSDBA - database owner)
    SYSTEM/manager (Owns various VIEWs and utility PACKAGEs)
    and (optionally):
    SCOTT/tiger (Training account containing some sample tables)
    If you're using PO8i on the local machine, you shouldn't need to worry about setting up NET*8 (Oracle's networking protocols)
    =================================================================
    Windows 95 and 98
    This will remove all Oracle products, Oracle services, and Oracle registry entries from your computer.
    Complete the following steps to create a Clean Machine. Backup any relevant databases before proceeding!
    On Windows 95 and Windows 98:
    1. Ensure you shutdown your Oracle. Right click on the Oracle Icon in the toolbar and click on the shutdown option.
    2. Un-install all your Oracle products if possible. Use universal installer to do that. Ignore this step if you dont have universal installer on your machine.
    3. In regedit, go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\ORACLE.
    4. Delete the ORACLE key.
    5. Edit your AUTOEXEC.BAT file and remove your %ORACLE_HOME%\bin and JRE paths from the path setting.
    6. From the Windows Explorer (or from the command prompt), delete the Oracle directory (Oracle Base).
    7. Delete <system_drive>:\Program Files\Oracle (from the Windows NT Explorer or from the command prompt).
    8. Delete Icons from <system_drive>: \Windows\Start Menu\Programs\Oracle - <HOME> and <system_drive>:\Windows\StartMenu\Programs\Oracle Installation Products. Where <HOME> is the previous HOME name.
    9. Reboot your computer.
    On Windows NT:
    1. Ensure you are logged in as a user with Administrator privileges.
    2. Stop all Oracle Services through Control Panel Services. Use universal installer to un-install your Oracle products. Ignore un-install if you dont have universal installer on your machine.
    3. Using regedit (at the command prompt, type regedit), go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\ORACLE and delete the ORACLE key.
    4. Open HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services, and remove all keys under HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services that begin with ORACLE.
    5. Open HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\EventLog\Application, and remove all keys under HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\EventLog\Application that begin with ORACLE.
    6. Close regedit.
    7. From the Control Panel, open System.
    8. If JRE was installed by Oracle, remove the %ORACLE_HOME%\BIN path and the JRE path. For example, you may see a path similar to this one: C:\ORACLE\ORAxx\BIN;G: \Program Files\Oracle\jre\1.1.7\bin. Go to Start > Control Panel > System > Environment tab. Click on the system variable path and modify the path.
    9. Delete Icons from <system_drive>:\Winnt\Profiles\All Users\Start Menu\Programs\Oracle - <HOME> and <system_drive>:\Winnt\Profiles\All Users\Start Menu\Programs\Oracle Installation Products. Where <HOME> is the previous HOME name.
    10. Delete <system_drive>:\Program Files\Oracle (from the Windows NT Explorer or from the command prompt).
    11. Reboot your computer.
    12. Delete all ORACLE_BASE directories (You can find the Oracle homes listed in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\ORACLE\ORACLE_HOMES).

    Any platform that uses the Intel Pentium 4 processor, with the
    Sun JRE
    and Symmantec JIT will encounter this problem. Windows NT,
    Windows 2000
    and NetWare platforms are confirmed to be affected.
    Description
    ~~~~~~~~~~~
    When installing Oracle Products with the Oracle Universal
    Installer (8.1.x)
    on machines that use the Sun JRE and Symmantec JIT, the
    installer hangs.
    Specifically for the Windows platform, the following version
    of the Symmantec
    JIT or earlier will encounter the failure:
    Symantec Java! JustInTime Compiler Version 3.10.107 for JDK
    1.2.
    Details regarding this issue can be found at:
    http://developer.intel.com/design/processor/future/manuals/knowni ssue.htm
    How to determine if you have Symmantec Java for JDK 1.2:
    1. Select the file "symcjit.dll" and right click on it.
    2. Select Properties, then the Version tab.
    3. Under Microsoft Windows*, the properties of the DLL are:
    "Symantec Java! JustInTime Compiler Version 3.10.107 for
    JDK 1.2 Copyright (C)
    1996-99 Symantec Corporation Dynamic Link Library file".
    DLLs older than this will also not work. "
    Likelihood of Occurrence
    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    Any platform that uses the Intel Pentium 4 processor, with the
    Sun JRE
    and Symmantec JIT will encounter this problem. Windows NT,
    Windows 2000 and NetWare platforms are confirmed to be
    affected.
    Possible Symptoms
    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    The failure typically is that the affected application simply
    terminates.
    Workaround
    ~~~~~~~~~~
    Not only will OUI be affected by this bug, most of the
    post-install
    configuration tools will also be affected. Running these
    tools with "-nojit"
    specified will avoid the hang, but it is not simple to specify
    "-nojit" for
    some of the products.
    The following workaround works for the Windows operating
    system:
    a. Copy only the install directory from the CD to the hard
    disk ,say, e:\temp.
    b. Open oraparam.ini and make the following modifications
    (Assuming CD
    drive is f:)
    * Change the "SOURCE=" line to use the full path to the CD
    instead of a
    relative path. (i.e., SOURCE=f:\stage\products.jar)
    * Change the "JRE_LOCATION" line to use the full path to the
    CD instead of a
    relative path. (i.e.,
    JRE_LOCATION=f:\stage\Components\oracle\swd\jre\1.1.7\1\DataFiles
    \Expanded)
    * Change the "OUI_LOCATION" line to use the full path to the
    CD instead of a
    relative path. (i.e.,
    OUI_LOCATION=f:\stage\Components\oracle\swd\oui\1.6.0.9.0\1\DataF
    iles\Expanded
    * Change the "JRE_MEMORY_OPTIONS" line to add "-nojit" as the
    first argument.
    (i.e., JRE_MEMORY_OPTIONS=-nojit -ms16m -mx32m)
    ^^^^^^
    * Other entries should remain the same
    c. Launch setup.exe from the temporary location on your hard
    drive (i.e.
    e:\temp\install\win32\setup.exe). This will use the
    modified
    oraparam.ini and pick up the information from the CD since
    the absolute
    locations are specified.
    Choose a Custom install and choose not to create a database
    during the
    install. This way, the Database Configuration Assistant will
    not be launched
    during installation.
    The Net8 Configuration Assistant will still be launched, and
    there is no way
    to suppress it. You will need to kill the Net8 Configuration
    Assistant if it
    hangs due to the bug. The installation still will have been
    successful, and
    you can run the DBCA and NetCA after installation.
    To kill NetCA if it hangs during installation:
    In the "Configuration Tools" window, highlight the "Net8
    Configuration
    Assistant" and click "Stop". If that does not work, look for
    the most recent
    JRE process using the Task Manager, and kill it manually.
    NOTE: the OUI
    itself will also have a jre process. Be sure to kill the one
    with the most
    recent date, which should be the jre process being used for
    Net8CA, not the
    one for OUI itself.
    After killing the configuration tools and continuing through
    the installation
    to the "End of Installation" screen, you should modify the
    configuration tools
    to use "-nojit", then call the appropriate tools from the
    Start Menu.
    Once installation is complete, each of the following files in
    the ORACLE_HOME
    needs to be modified:
    assistants\dbca\dbassist.cl
    assistants\dbma\dbmig.cl
    assistants\ifa\ifa.cl
    bin\elogin.cl
    bin\owm.cl
    ldap\oidamdin\oidadmin.cl
    network\tools\netasst.cl
    network\tools\netca.cl
    owm\install\instelogin.cl
    owm\install\instowm.cl
    Edit the contents of the above files to add "-nojit" as shown
    below:
    Command=("C:\Program Files\Oracle\jre\1.1.7\BIN\JREW" -nojit
    -classpath ....
    this is the only thing you need to add --> ^^^^^^
    Then, launch the necessary tools, like Net8CA and DBCA from
    the Start Menu.
    Patches
    ~~~~~~~
    Currently there is not a patched installer available to deal
    with this
    problem, the workaround listed above must be used.
    Windows ME
    Solution to the installation of Oraclei8.1.7 PE in Windows Millennium
    Oracle does not support installing version 8.1.7 PE into
    Windows Millennium.
    As an unsupported workaround, you may add the following line
    to the [compatibility95] section of win.ini prior to
    installation:
    Jrew=0x00080000
    After setup is complete, Oracle will recommend a reboot.
    There is one additional step necessary prior to reboot;
    Oracle may add a non-standard path statement to the
    autoexec.bat file. Please modify this SET PATH
    statement to use short-filenames if you find a quoted
    LFN string represented as part of the path. You can
    confirm that the path was merged successfully into the
    registry after reboot by examining the PATH variable
    in the registry at
    HKLM\System\CurrentControlSet\Control\SessionManager\Environment
    Symptoms of a missing Oracle path statement in the registry are that Net8 Easy Config will not launch.
    Please note that Oracle does not support the use of this
    product in Windows ME, but have authorized these workarounds
    for testing purposes only.
    Windows XP Home Edition
    Oracle 8i is not certified on windows XP. Even if yes, it must be Windows XP Professional.
    You can install Oracle8i on windows XP Home Edition, try like this:
    1 - Copy your Oracle CD into hard disk in your
    machine. For example Copy from oracle8i CD into C:\Oracle\ ...
    2 - Search the two files named Symcjit.dll on the D drive (where you have copied Oracle8i. You can found them in (example):
    C:\Oracle\stage\Components\oracle.swd.jre\1.1.7.30\1
    \DataFiles\Expanded\jre\win32\bin\symcjit.dll
    3 - Rename this file (Example): symcjit_back.dll (make sure to find two files and rename them)
    4 - Execute the Oracle setup.exe from C:\Oracle\setup.exe
    ===============================================================
    When Oracle 8i dies on the install or the installer hangs, here is the fix for this, make sure that you have Service Pack 2 installed.
    1. \JRE\1.3.1\ From Sun. (You can download java program at http://java.sun.com/products/jdk/1.1/jre/download-jre-windows.html)
    2. Install the java file.
    There is also a problem in the installation disk.
    3. Make a copy of the Oracle 8i disk on the local hard disk.
    4. Do a search for the two files called symcjit.dll and rename them for example: symcjit.old.
    5. Install Oracle from the win32 directory.
    PLEASE NOTE THAT ORACLE DOESN'T SUPPORT THE USE OF THOSE PRODUCTS IN WINDOWS ME, BUT HAVE AUTHORIZED THESE WORKAROUNDS FOR TESTING PURPOSES ONLY
  • Oracle 10g client on Domain
    We have some problems with a Oracle 10g client instalation:
    We installed in a Windows 7 Pro OS on Domain, using an Admin User, Oracle 10g Client. If I use that user, I can connect to DB. If I change the user for a restricted one, I can't.
    Sample: Using the restricted user, I try to run SQL Plus for Windows; it starts, but after I fill the User, Pass and DB information, SQLPlus closes without showing any error or warning. In the same way, I can't run any program using the Client.
    If I change the privileges for that user to Administrator in the Active Directory, all works without problems (without any change in the configuration)
    Any idea about the permisions I should give to the user without giving Admin privileges.
    Thank you
    Rafael B.
    Welcome to the forums !
    Pl indicate which version of 10g client was installed. The only version of 10g that is certified on Win 7 is 10.2.0.5. Other versions may or may not work as advertised.
