Oracle 9i Configuiration details on various servers

Hi everybody,
I need u all 2 guide me regarding the information provided below. We are into a new project and iam giving you every thing in detail to suggest which to follow and which not to think of?
Work Domain : Banking
Technology : OLTP
Application : either Oracle or Java
The oracle database to be installed : 9i Relaes 2
The no.of users probably
access the Database on an avge : 100
The no.of databases to be created : 10(9+1)
The size of one database : 100G
The size of all other
Databases Each : 35G
And each of every database of 35G must get synchronised with the 100G database.
And as per as the backup target is concerned would be tape drives and probably would configure the veritas volume manager.
According to what i provided, would you please tell me the server configuration details that which includes RAM AND other few details
1. ON LINUX
2. ON HP-UX
3. ON SOLARIS
i would be delighted and quite happy if you people can come with the best configuration plan for the above servers.
Thanks and Regards,
Naga Raju A.

Few Suggestions.
1. Install Oracle 10g instead of Oracle 9i.
2. Install any of those 3 OS. Linux will save you some money and still give you the required performance
3. Budget for up to 8 CPUS (have minimum 4 CPUs)
4. Budget for up to 32GB RAM (have minium 8GB)
5. Configure DataGaurd (Standby Database)
6. Make a case for RAC and budget for it
7. Install and configure Grid Control on a separate server to monitor the Server and Database.

  • ARRAY using in PreparedStatement in various servers

Hello, all! I have a question.
I want to use array in my sql query and write next:
    PreparedStatement ps = con.prepareStatement(MY_QUERY);
    ArrayDescriptor arrayDescriptor = ArrayDescriptor.createDescriptor("CHAR_ARRAY", wrappedConection);
    ARRAY myArray = new ARRAY(arrayDescriptor, con, javaArray);
    ps.setArray(1, myArray);
    ResultSet result = ps.executeQuery();
The problem lay in the arrayDescriptor need for OracleConnection, but I have wrapped connection from various servers. Any suggestions?

If you need a database-specific class that's outside the java.sql interface set, I'd say you're doing it wrong.
How is saving an array relational? Why wouldn't it be n records instead of 1?

How could 64bit Oracle be installed on a 32bit OS ?
That said, you could check the binary:
    file $ORACLE_HOME/bin/oracle

I realized that no where in the link you provided, it is said to "vi" on oracle bin... how does it come to your mind then ?

    SSH: 5.8.0.6102 to 6.0.0.6102

  • ORACLE 10G 2 Node RAC on servers AB to 3 node 11GR2 RAC on  new servers XYZ

    Hi Gurus ,
We have a business requirement to upgrade existing oracle 10.2.0.4 2 Node RAC on servers A,B (HP UX 11.31 ) to 3 Node ORACLE 11GR2 on new Servers X,Y and Z(Linux and servers are from different vendor)
We don't have ASM.We have RAW file system
Now this has to be done with near zero down time. This is a very busy OLTP System.Golden Gate is not an option as Management is not going for it this time.
Storage is same for everything.I am thinking of the following ways. Please let me know if you have any better plan or if you want to correct my existing plan
Initially i thought of this way and i immediately answered myself
    Plan A
1 ) Storage copy (BC etc..) exising 10g RAC Database files on A,B to new volumes allocated to Servers X,Y and Z ( I don't think it's possible as OS is different.I am not sure whether copying this way is possible or not , even if possible i am not sure whether new OS can identify these files or not)
    2 ) upgrade 2 Node 10.2.0.4 on X,Y to 11GR2 .
    3 ) Add a Database Node on Z
    Plan B is
    1) Build 3 Node brand new 11GR2 on X,Y and Z
2 ) Plan for how can you replicate the data ( This has to be a logical way)
a ) RMAN - Very time consuming as this is >50 TB Database
    b) Golden Gate - Not an option.Even if we can use it , i see there are so many logical issues with golden gate
    c) Expdp/impdp - forget about it :)
    d) physical standby (Versions are different. If it is same version and Same OS then would have been best bet)
What would be the ideal way to do this with minium down time and with out golden gate
I think something can be done on the lines of PLAN A itself.
    Requesting your help Gurus
    Thanks

    Hi,
Have you considered possibility to setup a logical standby and do rolling upgrade ?
Please have a look at the following:
    1) http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/database/features/availability/maa-wp-11g-transientlogicalrollingu-1-131927.pdf
    2) http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/database/features/availability/maa-wp-11g-upgrades-made-easy-131972.pdf
If you can practice on test setup, it looks a faster option than the others.

  • Oracle ADF Master-Detail query

Hi I am using Jdeveloper 11.1.1.3.0, whenever I create master(Form)-detail(Table) relationship on JSF/view, in page defination files of same under the bindings section I found the bindings as
"*attributValue, action, tree*", but according to theory it should appear like "*attributValue, action, table*" so can anybody explain me why I am getting *'tree'* type binding insted of *'table'.*

    Hi,
can you please elaborate a bit more on how do you expect to have attributValue, action, table instead of attributValue, action, tree ?
According to the following documentation, you should be expecting a tree:

  • Oracle 11gR1 RAC in IBM p servers, VIOS or NOT

    Hi,
Before IBM VIOS was certified by Oracle RAC last year, I always use two HBA ports and two NIC card ports on each node for redundancy purpose in the RAC implementation in IBM p series servers. I would like to hear other expert's opinion whether VIOS should be considered in the Oracle RAC.
Here are the pros and cons that I could think of for whether or not using VIOS in RAC:
    Use dedicated HBA and NIC:
pros: the storage I/O and network throughput are guaranteed and predictable.
cons: additional cost, the LPAR can not be dynamically moved to another frame if needed (since HBA and NIC are attached to the LPAR)
    Use VIOS:
    pros: I/O Virtualization.
cons: the LPAR can be dynamically moved to anther frame if needed. RAC node I/O may be impacted by other LPARs that use same device.
You comments or suggestions are highly appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Limin.

  • Oracle BI Master Detail RPT

    Financials modules
Below is the report format and Example,
    Account GRP1(1-4 BU) GRP(5,4) GRP(6-11) TTL GL_ITL DELTA
    10121 $92 * 2 90 100 10
BU's are Business Units, Here Company i think,
Description: First column is account number, example is GRP1,BU,Account,Dept,Fiscal period
Account number is at master Level. When i click account number 10121, it should drill down to all the details or child which it makes 92 dollers.
Basically master detail report. But the format should be like this
The question is whether our datware house pre built is supported to do this type of report or we need to custom some thing from the dataware house.
What more information, i need to ask if i need more information from the client

The name of this forum is "Database - General"
The first line of your question indicates your question has nothing to do with the Oracle database.
Please change the subject to "Please Ignore" and repost your question in an E Business Suite forum.

    Hi.
I have the same problem, one which works and another which don't (almost though).
I got most of it to work by taking the mtsservices registry entry from the server that works and put it on to the other after i have made the service in Oracle management console for mts.
Now i can search, delete, change but not make a new entry into the database.
And thats where i'm stuck now.
    Hope it helps a bit..

    Ganesh,
From the trace provided, it appears that the OraOLEDB had problems loading the OraMTS.DLL appropriately. Can you check to see if the OraMTS.DLL is in your %ORACLE_HOME%\bin and your PATH is set with %ORACLE_HOME%\bin included?
Another possibility is that an older version of OraMTS.DLL resides in your
%ORACLE_HOME%\bin. If you invoke "dumpbin /exports oramts.dll" at the DOS command line, one exported function should be called "OraMTSSvcEnlistEx". If you don't see this, then that means you should try reinstalling OraMTS 8.1.7 again.
    Hope that helps.

  • Oracle Portal master details default value set up.

    Hi All,
Using Oracle Portal to create a master details form.
I have tried to set up the details table foreign key. I used the master table primary key as a default value for the details table foreign key.
Does anyone know what the correct syntax is when I fill in the Default Value field on the "Formatting and Validation Options for Detail Row" tab?
Also related to this: What should I choose from the drop down menu for the "Default Value Type"?
    Best Regards.

    Hi Liviu & Paul,
NOTE: The following is applicable to Portal version 3.0.8 and above .
Well, if you want that the Detail table Foreign key should get the value of The Mater Table Primary key, then you need not do anything like setting the Default value for the Foreign Key of the Detail section. It works like this :-
    Operation INSERT:
When you are INSERTing a master record and the corresponding detail records, just fill up the master form and need not worry about the Foreign key(FK) in the Detail rows. Fill up the other columns for the detail rows and choose the appropriate action for each of the detail rows i.e. INSERT and click on the SAVE button. If the FK in the Detail have been left blank, then while inserting into the detail table, the Primary Key (PK) value of the master will be picked up and inserted . However, if you specify any value in the FK column of the Detail, then the specified value would override the PK value of the master.
Generally, what ppl do is make the FK in the detail of type Hidden.. so users cannot tamper with the FK values.
    Hope this helps.
